12:37 AM enleth: explore: that last question doesn't really make much sense, starting with the fact that no one doing robot simulation would use the term "virtual world", it's just a bunch of mathematical models doing a hopefully close approximation of some aspects of a real robot and a very narrow selection of its surroundings, with some 3D thrown on top of that because humans like a visual overview
12:46 AM enleth: it is no more a "world" than an excel spreadsheet with load calculations for a building
12:49 AM enleth: what people in the industry refer to is the process of doing a simulation and the software used to do it, and then possibly they'll refer to the image of the robot in the 3D visualisation as "the robot" for the sake if simplifying communication
12:50 AM enleth: with the assumption that it does what an actual robot would do, so they can pretend it's there, as a mental construct
12:50 AM enleth: "does"
12:54 AM explore: hmm interesting
12:54 AM explore: thank you for lemme me pick your brain
12:55 AM explore: much obliged
12:55 AM enleth: and, yes, I do enjoy video games and get immersed in them, but those "worlds" are no more of a world than the ones described in books, just with a ton of special effects thrown on top
12:57 AM enleth: the gist of it probably is simply that "virtual world" is a weird, misleading term that doesn't really describe anything and doesn't have a set meaning, so it's not a good frame of reference for further thinking outside of entertainment, fiction and narrative creation
