05:04 AM Jak_o_Shadows: oh, we never got the kids to build stuff
07:28 AM paul424: hello, I am back : if someone hasn't noticed me before here's my quest : what are your opinions about the robo sets mentioned in https://neorobot.pl/kategorie-wiekowe.html#Dla%20dzieci%20w%20wieku%20od%208+%20lat
07:30 AM paul424: Abilix Krypton, Jimu Robot , Makeblock , Ozobot, RoboRobo RoboKit ...
07:56 AM mrdata: checking
07:58 AM mrdata: young children might swallow pieces so if 3 then probably require supervision
07:59 AM mrdata: otherwise they look fun
08:14 AM paul424: no no , I target the kids in the 7-10 years range
08:16 AM paul424: mrdata, that :)
08:21 AM Azem is now known as Emet-Selch
08:29 AM paul424: ehem children plus laser , really ?
08:30 AM enleth: no, I mean you can make most of the structural components yourself
08:30 AM enleth: and design themed versions to make them more appealing to kids
08:31 AM enleth: you can get a small chinese 40W CO2 laser plotter for 3kPLN delivered on Allegro
08:34 AM enleth: they're not great, the Lihuiyu labs controller is kinda shit, K40 Whisperer, the open source replacement for Corel Laser, is also kinda shit, but they work and they cut plywood
08:35 AM enleth: at that price, they're still great value
08:35 AM paul424: enleth, thanks for advice but I doubt my boss would invest 3000PLN for a laser cutter ... in any case it would have little use at our language / educational school :P
08:35 AM enleth: paul424: it's literally cheaper than two decent Mindstorms sets
08:37 AM enleth: doesn't hurt to ask, a small laser plotter can do all sorts of cheap customized teaching aids
08:37 AM enleth: people in education tend to go for 3D printers instead because they're hyped to hell and back
08:38 AM paul424: heh that;s true
08:38 AM enleth: but IMO a laser plotter is a much simpler, easier to use and less frustrating tool
08:39 AM enleth: the barrier to entry is much lower, almost anyone can learn to do vector graphics for 2D stuff
08:39 AM enleth: it can cut and engrave in a single setup, so custom things with text, diagrams or grayscale images are possible
08:46 AM enleth: paul424: here's a model wind turbine we made yesterday for a grant application: https://matrix.hackerspace.pl/_matrix/media/r0/download/hackerspace.pl/151ca9edb404db30d927d6e1f1d3f6416e6d03ff/video_733a297.mp4 https://matrix.hackerspace.pl/_matrix/media/r0/download/hackerspace.pl/c7362d67df9769aefc2a6a6bffa64a97499f1839/ima_713b7c3.jpeg

08:47 AM enleth: it'll definitely end up being used in a class at some point, too
08:48 AM enleth: designed in Fusion 360, took something like 3 hours and 5 iterations of the design to get right
08:48 AM enleth: laser cutting is *fast*
08:49 AM enleth: none of the half-day print time nonsense
09:56 AM paul424: enleth, I was away but thanks for the tips as usual :)
09:56 AM paul424: enleth, I got going yo !
10:46 AM paul424: MakeBlock mBot Review http://www.DadDoes.Com Today we review the mBot robot from MakeBlock. The mBot is an inexpensive ($79) robot that has multiple sensors, is fully programmable and easy to build.
10:46 AM paul424: well I was almost to buy that robot, instead on amazon.com it turns out it's not for 80$ but for 200$ !
10:47 AM paul424: how that's possible the guy in the video could have be so much mistaken ?
10:48 AM paul424: could have been*
