02:03 PM Phantom: hi there, does anyone knows if there is some geared nema 17 pancake style steppers? All I see is 'full size' direct drive ones...
02:04 PM Phantom: or huge gearbox "full size" steppers
03:06 PM Tom_L: https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/pancake-stepper-motor/
03:06 PM Tom_L: geared? i doubt it
03:07 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/nema-17-pancake-stepper-motor/s?k=nema+17+pancake+stepper+motor
03:15 PM Phantom: I'ld like geared, it's for my 3dprinter extruder, which need a relativelly high torque but low speed
03:25 PM mrdata: youre probably going to have to design the gear system yourself then
03:25 PM Phantom: yeah
03:25 PM Phantom: I'm surprised that nobody seems to have made one
03:26 PM mrdata: it's one of those things; the gear system is specific to the application
03:26 PM Phantom: yeah
03:27 PM mrdata: thingiverse has a bunch of that kind of thing, tho
03:28 PM Phantom: yeah, but... what I have seen is heavier than the motor, or trash
08:14 PM rue_mohr: Phantom,
08:15 PM Phantom: Rue!
08:15 PM rue_mohr: I use 2:1 on my printers
08:15 PM rue_mohr: I designed the gearbox
08:15 PM rue_mohr: it presents as nema13, so you can attach it to the stuff expecting nema13 motors
08:16 PM rue_mohr: I have a few versions, one set uses a split gear for antibacklash like a cdrom etc
08:16 PM rue_mohr: I think I have one of the designs posted on thingiverse
08:16 PM Phantom: direct drive is nice, but.. the weight is an issue
08:17 PM rue_mohr: direct drive is kinda silly for printers
08:17 PM rue_mohr: the ratio is wrong
08:17 PM rue_mohr: the printers need more torque and the extra speed is useless
08:18 PM Phantom: yeah
08:18 PM rue_mohr: nothing more annoying than a print shifted cause it bumped and dropped a step
08:18 PM rue_mohr: those drivers can run those motors REALLY fast too
08:18 PM Phantom: I'm also wondering about converting my printer to corexy
08:19 PM Phantom: that would remove one motor weight to move
08:19 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1220252.jpg
08:19 PM Phantom: I could actually use a belted geared drive, those won't have backlash
08:19 PM rue_mohr: can you make out the gearboxes?
08:19 PM Phantom: I see it
08:20 PM Phantom: now... I wonder... if wrappage with PLA+ is normal... I mean, I didn't got that issue with petg
08:20 PM rue_mohr: there is a custom part, a nut thats drilled out with a grub screw tapped into the side
08:21 PM rue_mohr: I'v only done pla
09:20 PM Phantom: hey rue_mohr is there some inexpensive dc servo that emulate steppers?
09:30 PM rue_mohr: there is an expensive gecko module :)
