09:20 AM rue_mohr: ok exam in 10 mins
12:45 PM rue_mohr: ouch 76% on electrical code
12:49 PM polprog: -_-
12:49 PM polprog: did you pass
12:49 PM rue_mohr: yea
12:49 PM rue_mohr: but seeing as its being done with a code book,
12:49 PM rue_mohr: it shows how bad the book is
12:50 PM rue_mohr: it should be easy to get 100% on a class about a book that your given for the test
01:29 PM polprog: our phys prof just mentioned how he wanted to take apart a CD rom to control the stepper inside
01:30 PM polprog: and how useless most of the knowledge is as "so much work went into the design of this thing and I cant reuse it, it will just go to trash"
01:30 PM polprog: i wonder if i should throw him a link to mtkflash...
01:30 PM polprog: having said that
01:30 PM polprog: he gae me an idea
01:30 PM polprog: gave*
01:31 PM polprog: i could jumper the ide data lines directly to the motor driver inputs and control the motor that way
01:31 PM polprog: just like you did the ata2isp thingy
01:48 PM rue_mohr: via a latch, with address decoding
01:48 PM polprog: yeah
01:49 PM polprog: i wonder if the buffers i got recently could be used for that
01:49 PM rue_mohr: I wonder how many of the motor drivers are parallel control
01:49 PM polprog: they look like H bridge ICs mostly
01:49 PM rue_mohr: the controller will have a rom and a '373 on it
01:49 PM polprog: its not that stupid, i have some old CDrom PCBs i coud reuse for the drivers and the IDE connector
01:49 PM polprog: yeah, it will. unless it's a newish design with everything in an ASIC
01:50 PM polprog: everything but the drivers and power supplies for power dissipation reasons
01:50 PM rue_mohr: with a bit of rewiring, the rom could be programmed as an address decoder (if you want to break the address down more than master/slave)
01:50 PM rue_mohr: wait
01:50 PM rue_mohr: you had some 8255 in that last chips batch didnt you?
01:53 PM polprog: 8255
01:53 PM polprog: uhh
01:53 PM polprog: let me check
01:53 PM polprog: i should be watching mech heh
01:54 PM polprog: yeah i have one
01:54 PM polprog: 8255 from intel
01:55 PM rue_mohr: you might only need 1 inverter to hook it to an pata port
01:55 PM polprog: and then i think the smaller 8251 too
01:55 PM rue_mohr: then you get 3 ports (or was it 2)
01:55 PM rue_mohr: 8251 is serial
01:55 PM rue_mohr: but pata + 8255 = io ports
01:56 PM polprog: yeah
01:57 PM polprog: another distraction i dont have time for :/
01:58 PM polprog: i should go back to watching that
01:58 PM polprog: i got 2h left
01:59 PM rue_mohr: I have to get studdying for the test tommorow
01:59 PM rue_mohr: general test on everything over the past 10 weeks
08:35 PM veverak: shit
08:35 PM veverak: deshipu no longer here, hmmm
09:20 PM rue_mohr: channel has been dieing for like 6 years now
09:20 PM rue_mohr: by kicking out the idlers, it comes back a bit, buts its too far gone now
09:21 PM rue_mohr: its basically #linuxhelp
09:21 PM rue_mohr: a husk of something that was awesome
