12:23 PM Hamilton: Any quadcopter channel?
12:23 PM Hamilton: I'm looking for mission planners for ArduPilo
12:24 PM zhanx: Hamilton, haven't seen much quadcopter stuff here, you check #arduino ?
12:24 PM zhanx: oh and #ardupilot is a channel Hamilton
12:25 PM Hamilton: zhanx, thanks 😃
12:25 PM zhanx: 22 users but who knows
12:26 PM Tom_L: it just takes 1 smart one
12:26 PM zhanx: true and Hamilton https://ardupilot.org/planner/
12:26 PM zhanx: or do you mean a better one?
12:26 PM Hamilton: zhanx, Yeah it is I think the most famous one but I'm looking for alternatives to it
12:26 PM Hamilton: https://ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-choosing-a-ground-station.html
12:27 PM Hamilton: Seems like they have listed some softwares themselves
12:27 PM Hamilton: zhanx, What is your OS/Field?
12:27 PM zhanx: computer crap in the field
12:27 PM zhanx: i play with robots on the ground not in the air
12:28 PM zhanx: easier to me to find them
12:47 PM Hamilton: zhanx, Do you mainly use Windows or Linux?
12:47 PM zhanx: linux
12:47 PM Hamilton: The mission planner is supported on Windows (C#) but I think it kinda works on linux too
12:47 PM Hamilton: That's why I'm searchnig for alternatives
12:47 PM Hamilton: zhanx, What distro?
12:48 PM zhanx: ubuntu 20.04 right now
12:50 PM Hamilton: zhanx, 👍 (as for me: Xubuntu 18.04 + i3)
12:50 PM Hamilton: I think *-Ubuntus are the optimum choise for robotics
12:50 PM srk: there's also QGroundControl
12:51 PM Hamilton: srk, https://ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-choosing-a-ground-station.html#qgroundcontrol yep
12:51 PM Hamilton: srk, personal experience?
12:51 PM srk: not really, was happy with stock mission planner :)
12:51 PM Hamilton: How difficult is it to write a similar app from start?
12:51 PM srk: played with mavlink apis a bit
12:51 PM srk: difficult
12:52 PM srk: depends :)
12:52 PM srk: you can even use ROS with mavlink and make something awesome like swarm(s) :)
12:52 PM * srk wanted to play with multiple drones mapping the same area
12:53 PM zhanx: Hamilton, installs on 20.04 and seems to work fine
12:53 PM srk: but I only have one arducopter based so far :)
12:53 PM Hamilton: srk, I was thinking about possiblity of "testing a mission planner" (with real software) but interfaced to a simulated quadrotor in ROS. Is it possible?
12:53 PM srk: yes
12:53 PM srk: https://ardupilot.org/dev/docs/ros-sitl.html
12:54 PM Hamilton: srk, What is your main laptop/distro?
12:54 PM srk: NixOS :)
12:54 PM Hamilton: jeeez
12:54 PM Hamilton: hardcore
12:54 PM srk: (I'm not a big fan of ROS anymore but it is doable with ros overlay nowadays)
12:55 PM srk: https://github.com/lopsided98/nix-ros-overlay
12:55 PM srk: he is on #ardupilot channel ^^ :D
12:57 PM Hamilton: srk, Checked your blog...awesome stuff..congratz
12:57 PM srk: Hamilton: I don't have a blog! :D
12:57 PM Hamilton: oh sorry
12:58 PM Hamilton: I mixed it with lopsided
12:58 PM Hamilton: *confused it
12:58 PM srk: Hamilton: in progress ;)
12:58 PM Hamilton: srk, cause both of u seem to be fan of Nix
12:58 PM srk: hehe
