12:58 PM rue_bed: heh, I wonder if #avrs will move to another server
12:59 PM veverak: why?
01:06 PM rue_bed: for the same reason they freakout out at me
01:07 PM veverak: wat?
01:11 PM rue_bed: well they seem to be a "If you have a problem with a memory leak, get a better computer with more memory" crowd
01:11 PM rue_bed: purging anything is a strick no-no in their books
01:15 PM veverak: wait
01:15 PM veverak: WHAT
01:15 PM veverak: THAT'S BULLSHIT
01:15 PM rue_bed: I know
01:15 PM rue_bed: but whatever, to each their own
02:00 PM mumptai: ohh, EDA style software quality
02:00 PM eadthem: rue_bed ive heard that one before
02:01 PM mumptai: altium lost me when they started a voting among user on what bugs to fix first/at sll
02:02 PM eadthem: whats altium like? i run pads at work and dispite it being a disorganized mess it dose a nice job.
02:03 PM mumptai: ahh, it ist very professional, it gets the job done, even big ones, despite tears, vomit and disputes
02:04 PM eadthem: my only constant arguments with pads are, it inists on grabbing the widget you click on, from anything but the top most visible layer
02:05 PM eadthem: if you got the top side up. and you click, you wont get a topside part, nor trace, nor silk nor layer 2 or 3 nope youle get something part wise from layer 4.
02:05 PM eadthem: and you have to tab through and what you want will always be the last item.
02:05 PM mumptai: i'm currently evaluating kicad for a big design, and with a few additional plug-ins it doesn't look that bad
02:06 PM eadthem: hows its dynamic routing ? ie in pads i can plow through new traces and it will nudge and bump things as needed.
02:06 PM mumptai: altium is still a bit better, but both aren't perfect
02:07 PM mumptai: a wide ddr bus is still a lot of manual cleanup and preperation
02:07 PM eadthem: ive never done any pair or bus routing in pads yet.
02:07 PM eadthem: most of what we do is high current and mosfets.
02:08 PM eadthem: but i know its got options to gang rout a bus as one and keep the trace lenghts the same or similar
02:08 PM mumptai: actually polygons are nicer in altium, compared to kicad
02:10 PM mumptai: but kicad (/w a python plugin) handles repeated layouts of mulitple hierachical schematic sheets well, altium not so much (possible, but serious pita)
