01:06 AM rue_bed2: happy halloween
01:11 AM mrdata: likewise
01:11 AM mrdata: i was the invisible man, tonight
02:23 AM chisight: oh, i didn't see you
11:40 AM katsumi is now known as steelworker
07:28 PM Jan-: hey robotics people
07:28 PM Jan-: are there lots of people who have used the aluminium extrusion construction stuff
07:28 PM Jan-: where you put T nuts in and so on
07:28 PM Jan-: I have questions
07:30 PM zhanx: ok go
07:30 PM zhanx: Jan-,
07:30 PM Jan-: we are building a camera dolly.
07:30 PM Jan-: it has wheels that run on track
07:30 PM zhanx: k
07:30 PM Jan-: usually they are skateboard wheels
07:31 PM Jan-: four units of four wheels each, total 16 wheels, articulated
07:31 PM Jan-: like this http://nebula.wsimg.com/3e84f95f70373634f4c6623329a54ce2?AccessKeyId=46DC0CED00F9857FE00F&disposition=0&alloworigin=1
07:31 PM Jan-: We cannot fnd the triangular extrusion. Anyone got any ideas?
07:31 PM zhanx: turn the square 45 degrees
07:32 PM torque: alternately you can use a pipe
07:32 PM Jan-: it's hard because it has to be quite accurate or it won't run right on the rails
07:33 PM zhanx: Jan- https://us.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/110302693110/
07:34 PM * zhanx loves misumi due to their epic customer support
07:34 PM Jan-: yes we have seen that sort of thing, there are issues with only needing like 400mm of it :)
07:35 PM zhanx: they custom cut it, call them
07:35 PM Jan-: we're in the UK too
07:35 PM Jan-: there's a place that does all that stuff which actually makes the triangular extrusion (or has someone in china make it)
07:35 PM Jan-: but they want to ship it via some importer in the UK and it was ridiculous
07:35 PM zhanx: ok, well, ok. local then
07:36 PM Jan-: we just noticed they make 45 degree versions of that stuff and we could use that as a bracket to hold a bit of right angle
07:36 PM zhanx: Jan-, really, i would just jig it with angle iron
07:36 PM Jan-: just wanted a good UK stockist
07:36 PM zhanx: or aluminum
07:36 PM zhanx: i can pick up aluminum l channel local etc
07:38 PM Jan-: where are you zhanx
07:38 PM zhanx: USA
07:40 PM Jan-: yeah everything's cheap there
07:40 PM zhanx: yea we don't have VAT
07:40 PM Jan-: well you have sales tax
07:40 PM Jan-: but it's often lower
07:40 PM zhanx: way lower
07:41 PM Jan-: it's amazing how you've been able to do that and achieve such a low national debt and universal healthcare.
07:41 PM * Jan- runs away
07:41 PM zhanx: well when you have to protect weak allies
07:42 PM zhanx: wish we would stop protecting all the shipping to Europe
07:42 PM Jan-: I have a buddy who just left the air force here
07:42 PM Jan-: she was due to leave anyway, but basically just didn't like what they were being asked to do all the time
07:42 PM Jan-: it's sad :(
07:43 PM zhanx: i served with Guys from the UK, nice people
07:43 PM Jan-: they're really good
07:43 PM Jan-: it's just, when your whole life is clobbering basically stone age societies in crappy countries
07:43 PM Jan-: how good can you feel about it
07:43 PM zhanx: well, looking at the UK, I wonder
07:44 PM Jan-: wonder what
07:46 PM zhanx: the history of the UK clobbering stone age societies is epic
07:47 PM Jan-: yes I had hoped we'd grown out of that
07:47 PM Jan-: but no
07:47 PM zhanx: we are human, give us another 10,000 years
07:47 PM Jan-: but to be fair we only do that when Uncle Sam says so.
07:47 PM zhanx: now days maybe
07:47 PM zhanx: Question, honest one
07:48 PM Jan-: mm?
07:48 PM zhanx: Is blexit ever gonna happen or will it be a tradition to extend it yearly in 2310?
07:48 PM zhanx: don't see a lot of news on it here etc
07:48 PM * Jan- allows her head to fall forward onto the keyboard
07:48 PM Jan-: 9t237igrbvdsl82
07:49 PM Jan-: don't know
07:49 PM Jan-: finding it ever harder to care
07:49 PM Jan-: considering emigrating to California
07:49 PM Jan-: I was born in california, so the choice I have is Brexit Britain or Trump's america.
07:49 PM Jan-: God :(
07:50 PM zhanx: found it
07:50 PM zhanx: https://www.aspectled.com/collections/strip-light-accessories/products/45-degree-corner-angle-aluminum-mounting-channel-for-flexible-strip-lights?gclid=Cj0KCQjwr-_tBRCMARIsAN413WR0xqAcWmEYy2V5YwRQihmBlqukcYG1CCxAhtuoksEgJuStBkzE5NoaAmNXEALw_wcB#tab-1
07:50 PM zhanx: if you move to cali, you will not have power fyi
07:51 PM zhanx: they won't do controlled burns, so every time you turn around the power is out and wild fires
07:53 PM Jan-: yeah! we were looking at the LED track stuff
08:07 PM fmcd: Brextension
08:07 PM zhanx: Jan-, did you check https://openbuildspartstore.com
08:09 PM Jan-: I think what will happen in the end is that the UK will basically not leave, but leave enough that they can claim they've done it
08:09 PM Jan-: so we'll end up in the worst of both worlds
08:09 PM Jan-: never underestimate the ability of a politician to find something that's hard to do
08:10 PM Jan-: then not do it in a "doing it" sort of way
08:10 PM zhanx: Jan-, that is what I was thinking for the camera https://openbuildspartstore.com/v-slot-gantry-kit-20mm/
08:13 PM Jan-: yeah we have some of that
08:13 PM Jan-: it's OK for overhead rigging
08:14 PM Jan-: not so much for putting the camera on top, these are big broadcast cameras, professional ones
08:14 PM Jan-: they're heavy
08:15 PM Jan-: pondering this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223214234800
08:22 PM zhanx: k, i was thinking hacked cannon's
08:22 PM Jan-: cannons?
08:23 PM zhanx: Canon DSLR Cameras
08:23 PM Jan-: oh yeah
08:23 PM Jan-: no :)
09:48 PM chisight: Jan-: what is the problem with just gas pipe? heavy black iron bolted to some connecting rails like railroads? size for the load expected.
09:49 PM chisight: iirc, as long as we're talking history... ya'll did invent the railroad after all <--using his yank accent.
09:52 PM rue_mohr2: I wonder why there were railroads before powered engies to run them
09:53 PM rue_mohr2: I suppose in mines it makes sense
09:53 PM chisight: horses pulled them.
09:53 PM rue_mohr2: yea, sure but why rails
09:53 PM rue_mohr2: easy roadway?
09:53 PM rue_mohr2: avoid mud bog?
09:55 PM chisight: low friction, low energy loss due to uneven surfaces.
09:55 PM chisight: going up and down costs energy.
09:56 PM rue_mohr2: you think hills eh?
09:57 PM chisight: hills are pretty much unavoidable except by adding distance, i was thinking more the uneven surface of a gravel roadway.
09:58 PM rue_mohr2: there is just straight up wheels th
09:58 PM rue_mohr2: o
10:02 PM rue_mohr2: rails are almost specifically to keep something on track :)
10:02 PM rue_mohr2: which means giving up traffic capability
10:02 PM rue_mohr2: fixed, limited traffic for a set route
10:02 PM rue_mohr2: its a specific use case to get your advantage
10:02 PM chisight: there are bypasses. by using rails they were able to group the traffic together into one train. then for the occasional time when one train has to pass another they put the one of the trains on a siding bypass.
10:15 PM rue_mohr: I'm talking on like the first year rails were invented/used
10:15 PM rue_mohr: they were probably logs
10:19 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, you still up?
10:19 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, you alive?
10:21 PM rue_mohr: meh, its just you and me buddy
10:21 PM rue_mohr: ok, well,
10:22 PM rue_mohr: so, the filter profilers freq gen is working, it could use some tuning, but whatever
10:22 PM rue_mohr: I think next should be reading the peak detectors
10:23 PM rue_mohr: run two ADC?
10:23 PM rue_mohr: ):) yea
10:23 PM rue_mohr: channels are PA0, 1, 2, 3
10:23 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:23 PM rue_mohr: lets just spit them out as 4 values
10:24 PM rue_mohr: was there another project we should work on?
10:24 PM Tom_L: lets
10:24 PM rue_mohr: the lie dector, but its just needs the pwoer supply
10:24 PM rue_mohr: hi tom
10:24 PM rue_mohr: how you doing?
10:24 PM rue_mohr: how was haloween
10:24 PM Tom_L: i ignored it
10:24 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:24 PM rue_mohr: he scrooged it
10:24 PM rue_mohr: you doing christmas?
10:25 PM rue_mohr: so..
10:25 PM Tom_L: of course
10:25 PM rue_mohr: press enter and get 4 values
10:25 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:25 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, do you have a bunch of familuy come by?
10:25 PM Tom_L: no not usually
10:25 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, kind of
10:25 PM rue_mohr: another fork?
10:25 PM rue_mohr: yes
10:26 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, you ill?
10:26 PM zhanx: nope, worn out
10:26 PM rue_mohr: we should build on the adc demo then?
10:26 PM rue_mohr: yep
10:26 PM rue_mohr: it sure is hard to find people working on projects
10:27 PM zhanx: I am, lacking space now for the 1 meter cube cement printer
10:27 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:28 PM rue_mohr: use someone elses
10:28 PM rue_mohr: just get them overly interested and help them build it
10:28 PM zhanx: lol
10:28 PM rue_mohr: hey you have to find a route
10:28 PM zhanx: i need 2 meters of open space and only have .5
10:28 PM rue_mohr: yea be willing to make sacrifices to gain progress
10:28 PM rue_mohr: well, I mean it tho
10:29 PM zhanx: i know
10:29 PM rue_mohr: who has the room that you can trick into the project?
10:29 PM zhanx: land owner, waiting on his response for the space
10:29 PM zhanx: his barn has space
10:30 PM rue_mohr: I'm sure you can pull some mental manipulation if you need to
10:30 PM rue_mohr: non non o
10:30 PM zhanx: yep, tarps etc
10:30 PM rue_mohr: the problem is deeper
10:30 PM rue_mohr: your going to overload your service factor
10:30 PM zhanx: i got a 500 dollar donation for it
10:30 PM rue_mohr: everything you have, has a service factor
10:30 PM rue_mohr: yes no
10:31 PM zhanx: yes service factor is why i need the space
10:31 PM rue_mohr: but you need to grow your ability to service stuff with the stuff you gain
10:31 PM zhanx: unlike you I am not a pack rat
10:31 PM rue_mohr: so, if you can trick someone into thinking the idea is awesome, and make them think their building it
10:31 PM zhanx: lol ok
10:31 PM rue_mohr: then they just autosupply the time and space
10:32 PM rue_mohr: I'm WAY overloaded
10:32 PM zhanx: very true on both
10:32 PM rue_mohr: I'm at about 3:1
10:32 PM rue_mohr: and I'm fine till everything breaks down at once
10:32 PM Tom_L: but you still only have 25 hrs in a day
10:32 PM rue_mohr: then I just cant get it all back up
10:32 PM zhanx: Tom_L, that is that canadian time scale
10:32 PM rue_mohr: yea, I dont have anyone I can leverage
10:33 PM Tom_L: oh btw sleep an extra hour
10:33 PM chisight: i plan on skipping halloween (it's tomorrow here) and christmas again this year. doing thanksgiving though.
10:33 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr you skip halloween?
10:33 PM zhanx: i plan on sleeping that extra hour
10:33 PM rue_mohr: and i just wifi'd the coffeemaker, which has a much higher service factor than the other one
10:33 PM rue_mohr: which had a pipe come apart
10:33 PM chisight: me too zhanx.
10:34 PM rue_mohr: tom I did halloween
10:34 PM rue_mohr: nobody came
10:34 PM Tom_L: :(
10:34 PM rue_mohr: $70 candy }:)
10:34 PM chisight: it snowed for the national date.
10:34 PM Tom_L: freecad sux fwiw
10:34 PM Tom_L: but alot better than it used to be
10:34 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I use librecad
10:34 PM zhanx: i use openscad
10:34 PM rue_mohr: its quirky, but mostly works
10:34 PM Tom_L: does it have cam?
10:34 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, for 2d?
10:34 PM zhanx: and 3d
10:35 PM rue_mohr: hey rue, rue, I'm still trying to work on the code over here eh?
10:35 PM zhanx: inkscape to paths then openscad to stl etc
10:35 PM rue_mohr: rue timeslice problems dude?
10:35 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, can you draw a 3d and save as dxf?
10:35 PM Tom_L: i got my own cad tools
10:35 PM rue_mohr: hey I want to know how to do that
10:35 PM rue_mohr: you work on code
10:35 PM rue_mohr: I cant you got the keybaord
10:36 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, yes
10:36 PM Tom_L: had to fix one of the installs
10:36 PM Tom_L: swapping drives around messed a couple things up
10:36 PM rue_mohr: yea I have to reinstall one of the workstations in the shop
10:36 PM rue_mohr: but there is a problem
10:37 PM rue_mohr: dude, gimme that keybaord, bastart
10:37 PM Tom_L: rue you do thanksgiving up there?
10:37 PM rue_mohr: "yes" but not me
10:37 PM Tom_L: :(
10:37 PM rue_mohr: family doesn't really get togethro for anything
10:37 PM Tom_L: come on over
10:37 PM rue_mohr: we should start a new one
10:37 PM chisight: chosen family for the win.
10:37 PM rue_mohr: I like them tho
10:38 PM rue_mohr: you just want a bunch of people who come over for hacking code
10:38 PM rue_mohr: dude, look at what you got
10:38 PM rue_mohr: they dont hack tho
10:38 PM rue_mohr: 2/3 do
10:38 PM Tom_L: heh
10:38 PM rue_mohr: should we build that?
10:38 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, link in bound
10:38 PM rue_mohr: I GOT IT
10:38 PM zhanx: https://reprap.org/forum/read.php?1,851870
10:38 PM rue_mohr: NO, I GOT IT
10:38 PM zhanx: eval
10:39 PM rue_mohr: NO I GOT IT!!!
10:39 PM rue_mohr: you missed it
10:39 PM zhanx: no i got it
10:39 PM rue_mohr: we missed it
10:39 PM chisight: seems all the fun stuff is unprotected these days. found a google dork for hundreds of open s3 buckets. write access.
10:39 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:40 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, do you beleive the extrusion to really be that true?
10:40 PM zhanx: no
10:40 PM rue_mohr: what did they do?
10:40 PM rue_mohr: cant see
10:40 PM zhanx: slides for xy
10:40 PM rue_mohr: I think its ball races
10:40 PM zhanx: bearing races on the extruded
10:40 PM rue_mohr: no their side wheels
10:40 PM rue_mohr: but
10:41 PM zhanx: k, yes
10:41 PM rue_mohr: ouch that hurts my head
10:41 PM rue_mohr: he could 3d print that
10:41 PM rue_mohr: I suppose
10:42 PM rue_mohr: what size bearings you think those are?
10:42 PM zhanx: you could
10:42 PM rue_mohr: dont know
10:42 PM zhanx: ones you had me order and i never used
10:42 PM Tom_L: get a bunch of slot car bearings
10:42 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, you didn't make the carriage
10:42 PM zhanx: not yet
10:42 PM rue_mohr: cause you didn't build it with me
10:43 PM rue_mohr: he just went and did his own thing
10:43 PM rue_mohr: and he did make a printer
10:43 PM * zhanx gets horse to make a carriage
10:43 PM rue_mohr: yea, but I wanted to play along
10:43 PM rue_mohr: thats what its about eh?
10:43 PM rue_mohr: yea I lack team
10:43 PM zhanx: to draw the carriage
10:43 PM Tom_L: team of one
10:43 PM rue_mohr: well twitter isn't working out
10:43 PM Tom_L: could have told you that
10:44 PM rue_mohr: yea, but I have like, almost 600 followers
10:44 PM rue_mohr: which means the word of me is out there
10:44 PM Tom_L: do the just lurk?
10:44 PM rue_mohr: I went into a channel and someone recognized me
10:44 PM rue_mohr: granted it was someone who already knew me
10:44 PM rue_mohr: but thats not the point
10:44 PM Tom_L: heh
10:44 PM rue_mohr: hehe
10:45 PM rue_mohr: anyhow
10:45 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, nice link
10:45 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, what do they cost?
10:45 PM zhanx: 3d print them and 10 bucks of inserts
10:45 PM rue_mohr: hah
10:46 PM rue_mohr: rue how do we trick people into working on our projects?
10:46 PM rue_mohr: well, you need people first
10:46 PM rue_mohr: this sounds like its gonna cost energy
10:46 PM rue_mohr: there is a new generation of them out there ya know
10:46 PM Tom_L: make it sound cooler than it is
10:46 PM zhanx: hire a kid
10:47 PM Tom_L: and far easier than it is
10:47 PM Tom_L: he tried that already
10:47 PM Tom_L: with his robotics class
10:47 PM rue_mohr: the problem was it slid into a daycare
10:48 PM rue_mohr: for the most part I had them working on their own stuff tho
10:49 PM Tom_L: numbers dropped too
10:49 PM zhanx: child labor is only cool in canada
10:49 PM rue_mohr: it seems I need a bunch of people who are interested and otherwise devoid of creativity
10:49 PM Tom_L: i help from here
10:50 PM Tom_L: not much time for me though
10:50 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, it helps me to take a note pad to the gym, so i can write down ideas
10:50 PM rue_mohr: my temporal availability sucks
10:51 PM zhanx: hence the notepad
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if an stm32 melts if you turn on all the subsystems
10:52 PM zhanx: try it for us
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I wonder this as rue is dialing up BOTH ADC
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_power_off( ADC2 );
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_disable_scan_mode( ADC2 );
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_set_single_conversion_mode( ADC2 );
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_disable_external_trigger_regular( ADC2 );
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_set_right_aligned( ADC2 );
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_set_sample_time_on_all_channels( ADC2, ADC_SMPR_SMP_28DOT5CYC);
10:53 PM rue_mohr: adc_power_on( ADC2 );
10:54 PM rue_mohr: I think
10:54 PM rue_mohr: my code was reading the wrong channel
10:55 PM Tom_L: do they default with them all off?
10:55 PM Tom_L: subsystems..
10:55 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:55 PM rue_mohr: EVERYTHING boots to off
10:56 PM Tom_L: it it like... how much heat do you want?
10:56 PM rue_mohr: you have to enable all the clock systems
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_clock_setup_in_hse_8mhz_out_72mhz();
10:56 PM rue_mohr: /* Enable GPIOC clock. */
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_GPIOA);
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_GPIOB);
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_GPIOC);
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_USART1);
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_ADC1);
10:56 PM Tom_L: does it use a pll?
10:56 PM rue_mohr: rcc_periph_clock_enable(RCC_ADC2);
10:56 PM rue_mohr: yes
10:56 PM Tom_L: for the clock
10:56 PM rue_mohr: 8Mhz crystal
10:56 PM rue_mohr: 72Mhz core
10:56 PM Tom_L: can you change it?
10:56 PM Tom_L: with software
10:57 PM rue_mohr: which might not even be impressive, I have no idea how many cycles/instruction
10:57 PM rue_mohr: rcc_clock_setup_in_hse_8mhz_out_72mhz(); <-----
10:58 PM rue_mohr: huh, I suppose I can just wait for free ADCs and assign them to convert channels I need done
10:58 PM rue_mohr: hmm
10:59 PM rue_mohr: dude, you COULD also just use one adc
10:59 PM rue_mohr: but I have two!
10:59 PM rue_mohr: I'm just sayin
10:59 PM rue_mohr: but
10:59 PM rue_mohr: taking the wind?
10:59 PM rue_mohr: yea dude, I want to have two running at the same time
10:59 PM zhanx: talking to the wind?
10:59 PM rue_mohr: I woke him up cause I didn't think anyone else would be awake
11:00 PM rue_mohr: I'll go back to sleep later
11:00 PM rue_mohr: we want to get this stm32 filter thing along more
11:00 PM rue_mohr: we hit an interesting problem
11:00 PM rue_mohr: conceptually
11:00 PM rue_mohr: were polling the adc's
11:00 PM rue_mohr: and we want to run two at once
11:01 PM zhanx: rue is royalty now?
11:01 PM rue_mohr: so, start them both, whatever
11:01 PM Tom_L: so if i'm at work during the time change at 2AM do i loose an hours pay too?
11:01 PM rue_mohr: :S
11:01 PM rue_mohr: do you report by time in and out or hours worked>?
11:01 PM Tom_L: 5-5
11:01 PM rue_mohr: but then we need to watch the conversion complete flags
11:02 PM Tom_L: that's how the shifts run
11:02 PM rue_mohr: so, one of them is going to finish first
11:02 PM rue_mohr: but were polling
11:02 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, there are two of us going right now
11:03 PM rue_mohr: we could watch both flags and then if-out the values untill both are complete
11:03 PM rue_mohr: which is a bit inefficient
11:03 PM rue_mohr: cause that means the first to finish is idle while the other finishes
11:03 PM rue_mohr: are these sar?
11:03 PM rue_mohr: their not flash adcs
11:05 PM rue_mohr: hmm these adcs are group programmable
11:05 PM Tom_L: so what's your fpga gonna do for ya?
11:06 PM rue_mohr: different thread
11:06 PM Tom_L: parallel
11:06 PM rue_mohr: Interested in doing FSM with them
11:06 PM rue_mohr: I think we should use a group converstion and have it auto do all 4 channels
11:07 PM rue_mohr: how about 2 of them do 2 channels
11:08 PM Tom_L: why would you want staggered results?
11:08 PM rue_mohr: shorter timeframe than 1 adc can do
11:08 PM rue_mohr: and a new gimic
11:08 PM rue_mohr: mm
11:08 PM rue_mohr: ? gimmic
11:08 PM rue_mohr: ah
11:08 PM rue_mohr: I think we should have 1 adc do a group converstion
11:09 PM rue_mohr: then split it up later if that works
11:09 PM rue_mohr: its fast enough
11:09 PM rue_mohr: yea
11:09 PM rue_mohr: 12 bits anyhow
11:09 PM rue_mohr: hey we need to watch the ref too eh?
11:09 PM rue_mohr: oh
11:09 PM rue_mohr: not 5 is it?
11:09 PM rue_mohr: dunno
11:09 PM rue_mohr: dont think so
11:10 PM rue_mohr: 2.4 V ≤ VDDA ≤ 3.6 V
11:10 PM rue_mohr: ouch
11:10 PM rue_mohr: yea
11:10 PM rue_mohr: we need to dial the gain of the peak detectors
11:11 PM rue_mohr: might be deeper
11:11 PM rue_mohr: ouch
11:11 PM rue_mohr: got the schematic?
11:11 PM rue_mohr: no, lets do that later
11:11 PM rue_mohr: what did you do for signal on the other adc test
11:11 PM rue_mohr: we just left it floating
11:11 PM rue_mohr: tea
11:11 PM rue_mohr: agreed
11:11 PM Tom_L: i wonder if i can upgrade from debian9 to 10 or if it's a new install
11:15 PM rue_mohr: well, it doesn't go well from debain 4
11:15 PM zhanx: rue is outdated
11:15 PM rue_mohr: ok burst mode it is
11:15 PM rue_mohr: I dont touch em once they work
11:16 PM rue_mohr: but he should keep apt and the kernel up to date
11:16 PM rue_mohr: yea, man, thats a mess
11:16 PM rue_mohr: you cant just ftp get a new kernel ya know
11:16 PM rue_mohr: and the old wget cant just grab a copy of the https server
11:17 PM Tom_L: i built one once but used all the default settings
11:17 PM Tom_L: it didn't help the situation so i reveted back to the old one
11:17 PM Tom_L: it was a test
11:17 PM rue_mohr: I used to like to use tuned installs, but I dont for 'disposable' machines
11:18 PM rue_mohr: ok, how do we do burst conversion?
11:18 PM rue_mohr: w/dma
11:18 PM rue_mohr: damnit, I didn't want to go there
11:19 PM Tom_L: is dma hard to program for?
11:19 PM rue_mohr: maybe not, but I havn't done it yet
11:20 PM rue_mohr: and all the new stuff is supposed to be behind me for this project now
11:20 PM rue_mohr: I might doubleback
11:20 PM Tom_L: all the more reason to do it
11:20 PM rue_mohr: not now want to get this done
11:21 PM Tom_L: what is EABI arm?
11:21 PM rue_mohr: This mode is used to scan a group of analog channels.
11:21 PM rue_mohr: dont know what it stands for
11:21 PM Tom_L: there's a buster release for it
11:22 PM rue_mohr: heh, wont work on this one
11:22 PM Tom_L: what are they gonna do after they run out of toy story characters?
11:22 PM Tom_L: stop developing?
11:22 PM rue_mohr: force a new movie with new characters
11:23 PM rue_mohr: A single conversion is performed for
11:23 PM rue_mohr: each channel of the group. After each end of conversion the next channel of the group is
11:23 PM rue_mohr: converted automatically. If the CONT bit is set, conversion does not stop at the last selected
11:23 PM rue_mohr: group channel but continues again from the first selected group channel.
11:23 PM * rue_mohr nods
11:25 PM rue_mohr: er, no
11:25 PM rue_mohr: Discontinuous mode ...
11:29 PM rue_mohr: oh wow, too confusing
11:29 PM Tom_L: must be bad if it got you
11:30 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure which I want to use
11:32 PM Tom_L: is it a bad idea to 'upgrade' vs a fresh install?
11:32 PM rue_mohr: hell no
11:32 PM rue_mohr: if you do an upgrade every ~year, you never have to reinstall
11:32 PM rue_mohr: oooh...
11:32 PM rue_mohr: oh, hmmm
11:33 PM rue_mohr: single conversion mode can convert multiple channels
11:34 PM rue_mohr: oh
11:34 PM rue_mohr: single conversion of the list of channels to convert
11:34 PM rue_mohr: I see a theme here
11:35 PM rue_mohr: they have regular conversion channels and 'injected' channels
11:35 PM Tom_L: how do you tell what os you have?
11:36 PM rue_mohr: uname -a
11:36 PM rue_mohr: or
11:36 PM rue_mohr: cat /etc/debian-version
11:37 PM Tom_L: no such directory
11:37 PM rue_mohr: cat /etc/debian_version
11:37 PM rue_mohr: 8.8
11:37 PM rue_mohr: your sure?
11:37 PM rue_mohr: no typos...
11:38 PM * Tom_L replaces the - with _
11:38 PM Tom_L: so it didn't upgrade
11:38 PM rue_mohr: apt-get dist-upgrade
11:38 PM rue_mohr: heh, need to make sure not to accidently type that into my machine ;)
11:39 PM Tom_L: nope
11:40 PM Tom_L: even tried apt full-upgrade
11:40 PM Tom_dev: 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
11:40 PM rue_mohr: ooh
11:41 PM rue_mohr: you have to change your sources then
11:41 PM rue_mohr: what version is coded into
11:41 PM Tom_L: i'm headed there now
11:41 PM rue_mohr: /etc/apt/sources
11:41 PM rue_mohr: .list
11:41 PM rue_mohr: deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
11:41 PM rue_mohr: for example, I'm on stable
11:42 PM Tom_L: replace stretch with buster?
11:43 PM rue_mohr: only walk 1 version at a time
11:43 PM rue_mohr: otherwise yea
11:43 PM Tom_L: i'll paste it first
11:43 PM rue_mohr: I dont know the names of all the versions
11:44 PM rue_mohr: I really wish they would just stick to numbers
11:44 PM Tom_dev: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xSD2mhrNRG/
11:44 PM rue_mohr: oo stretch
11:44 PM rue_mohr: what came after?
11:44 PM Tom_L: stretch is 9 buster is 10
11:45 PM rue_mohr: ok, dot aht then
11:45 PM rue_mohr: just comment out the current lines as you mod them
11:45 PM Tom_L: i probably have to be root to change those?
11:46 PM rue_mohr: yes, just always be root
11:46 PM rue_mohr: for console stuff
11:46 PM rue_mohr: not in X tho
11:49 PM rue_mohr: ooh
11:49 PM rue_mohr: they have 4 registers for results
11:50 PM rue_mohr: oh
11:50 PM rue_mohr: 5
11:51 PM rue_mohr: 1 for regular conversions and one for injected conversions
11:51 PM Tom_L: i suppose you have to reboot after this
11:51 PM rue_mohr: only if it upgrades the kernel
11:54 PM Tom_L: running 8.9 on the server
11:56 PM rue_mohr: hmm
11:56 PM rue_mohr: it looks like the injection system only works if there is alrady conversions happening normally
11:57 PM Tom_L: where you gettin documentation for all this?
11:58 PM rue_mohr: I have a document called something like sd98678762394909786.pdf that I renamed to stm32_registers.pdf
11:58 PM Tom_L: k
11:58 PM rue_mohr: so, of course I dont know the origional document name
11:58 PM rue_mohr: but, if your interested, google
11:59 PM rue_mohr: "In Single conversion mode the ADC does one conversion. This mode is started either by
11:59 PM rue_mohr: setting the ADON bit"
