02:38 AM mun: i'm looking at this pick and place setup https://tbm-auth.alicdn.com/JpOr8r8J7OyQ3R2vkSY/OUw47OJibDVkpwqYmme@@hdregop.mp4?auth_key=1565509759-0-0-73d29fefe2cac24fdc1aa411c7e86cb9
02:39 AM mun: anyone know how big a vacuum pump something like this needs?
02:43 AM mun: is 4psi enough?
02:49 AM rue_mohr: yes
02:49 AM rue_mohr: well if you mean -4 psi
02:49 AM mun: yeah
02:51 AM rue_mohr: interseting use of the venturi there
02:53 AM mun: rue_mohr hmm where's the venturi?
02:56 AM rue_mohr: it has the blue pipe comming in the front, the black pipe out the left, and the muffler on the back
02:57 AM rue_mohr: and its hot glued to the piece of hand-cut plexiglass
02:58 AM rue_mohr: na must be lexan
02:59 AM mun: rue_mohr you mean this piece? https://imgur.com/a/P2tfhvD
02:59 AM mun: i thought it was a valve
02:59 AM rue_mohr: its a venturi
03:00 AM rue_mohr: with a pressure detector on it
03:00 AM mun: right
03:01 AM rue_mohr: heh
03:01 AM rue_mohr: they cant reach the second box
03:02 AM mun: IIRC a venturi is where you push compressed air into it to create suction, right?
03:02 AM rue_mohr: yup
03:03 AM mun: are they efficient?
03:03 AM mun: i've never used one
03:03 AM rue_mohr: so, the first thing they go to is a dryer (thats not supposed to be on its side) and an oiler (which has no oil in it)
03:03 AM rue_mohr: then it goes to a joystick their using as a disable switch
03:03 AM rue_mohr: that goes to the 3 gang valve bank
03:04 AM rue_mohr: dont know how to measure the efficiency of them honestly
03:04 AM rue_mohr: I cant tell what they actuated the forward/back movement with
03:04 AM mun: what's the dryer for?
03:04 AM rue_mohr: it must be built into the slider block
03:04 AM rue_mohr: compressed air has water in it
03:04 AM rue_mohr: sometimes, lots
03:05 AM mun: true
03:05 AM mun: wouldn't it make more sense to just use a vacuum pump then
03:05 AM rue_mohr: the cylinders work better under pressure
03:06 AM rue_mohr: and the valves require pressure
03:06 AM rue_mohr: the solinoid only operates a pilot, the supply pressure moves the main valve spool
03:07 AM mun: rue_mohr by cylinders, do you mean the linear actuator?
03:07 AM rue_mohr: yes
03:08 AM rue_mohr: my cat is sitting in the rain asking me to make it dry out
03:09 AM mun: heh
03:09 AM mun: woah.. those venturis are quite cheap
03:09 AM mun: like $10
03:09 AM rue_mohr: yup, I got one to make a powdercoat sprayer with
03:10 AM mun: rue_mohr a sprayer. so do you plug a vacuum into it and reverse the flow?
03:15 AM rue_mohr: no, you put a tube to what you wan to spray on the intake of the venturii
03:15 AM rue_mohr: it sucks it in
03:16 AM mun: oh, of course
03:17 AM mun: why do you think it needs a 3 gang valve bank. one for the vertical actuator, one for the venturi, but the other one?
03:17 AM mun: the horizontal?
03:17 AM rue_mohr: yep
03:17 AM mun: can't quite see it.. but yeah, i guess
03:17 AM rue_mohr: which is soemthing fancy I cant identify
03:18 AM mun: actually, i can
03:18 AM mun: they're connected to the far end
03:19 AM mun: rue_mohr but then isn't the horizontal just a rail guide?
03:20 AM rue_mohr: not sure
03:20 AM rue_mohr: there are some pneumatic linear actuators I'm not intemitly familiar with
03:22 AM mun: it probably is
03:23 AM mun: wonder how those things move
03:36 AM mun: " The pneumatic linear actuators are internally powered by an air cylinder. Miniature Linear Actuators are also available where space is limited. Rodless Linear Actuators or Guided rodless air cylinders are different from standard air cylinders, no piston rod will extends past the cylinder body. The internal piston is connected to the carriage magnetically, pulling the outer carriage along with the piston, this is ideal for long stroke applications."
03:36 AM mun: so they're driven by a magnet?
01:20 PM rue_mohr: so, its raining
01:21 PM rue_mohr: so, no welding, or metal casting
01:21 PM rue_mohr: hmm
01:34 PM katsumi_: well
02:03 PM rue_mohr: its not that there isn't anything to do , its that I cant think of it while its raining
02:04 PM rue_mohr: if the sun comes out I'd likely start coding something
02:05 PM rue_mohr: tho if it slows down I'd like to do a *bit* of welding
02:05 PM rue_mohr: which makes a strong argument for getting out of my pajamas
06:18 PM logb0t_ is now known as logb0t
