03:21 PM katsumi: hoi
03:25 PM katsumi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAdqazixuRY
03:25 PM katsumi: ::)
05:15 PM zhanx_ is now known as zhanx
06:51 PM logb0t_ is now known as logb0t
08:52 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ah, a lot better without joins and parts
08:52 PM Jak_o_Shadows: The alarm clock torch is finished - v1 at least.
08:52 PM Jak_o_Shadows: V2 is an exciting prospect, but i'll see how v1 goes, what improvements I want
08:52 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Now to build a tailstock-type thing for the drill press.
08:54 PM zhanx: wait what???
08:54 PM Jak_o_Shadows: What part?
08:55 PM zhanx: alarm clock torch
08:55 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I added a uC with a RTC to a torch like https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/wc-prod-pim/JPEG_1000x1000/ENEDOLLN6V_eveready_dolphin_outdoor_lantern.jpg
08:55 PM Jak_o_Shadows: well, similar torch.
08:56 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I replaced the bulb with an ebay 12V car headlight
08:56 PM Jak_o_Shadows: connected the switch to the uC, instead of it being a normal switch
08:56 PM Jak_o_Shadows: and i use the RTC to get it to turn on like an alarm clock.
08:56 PM Jak_o_Shadows: and the buttons so it works as a normal torch
08:57 PM zhanx: ah torch as in lite, not torch as in flames
08:57 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
08:58 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ah, it's a british/irish/austrlaian/new zealand/south african word.
08:58 PM zhanx: yep
08:58 PM zhanx: i was like wait, i need to see this flaming alarm clock
08:58 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
08:58 PM Jak_o_Shadows: well, i hope it doesn't do that
08:58 PM zhanx: well that takes all the fun out of it
09:00 PM Jak_o_Shadows: maybe
09:00 PM Jak_o_Shadows: no thoughts on a tailstock type thing for a drill press?
09:00 PM zhanx: 90 or reverse feed?
09:01 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Mostly I want something to provide a little more radial support on the drill press when using it for sanding and light carving (of wood)
09:01 PM Jak_o_Shadows: So drill press would probably stillbe vertical
09:02 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, thoughts?
09:02 PM zhanx: I mean you could add in some extra bears for support if needed
09:03 PM Jak_o_Shadows: So at the moment I'm thinking a couple of bearings, and it attaching to the drill press plate with soem bolts
09:03 PM zhanx: or make a finger belt sander instead
09:04 PM Jak_o_Shadows: argh, I don't have a CAD program installed...
09:18 PM Jak_o_Shadows: http://pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=6457e97ea6d63ab18230526f9f89e07b is some of my current thoughts
09:19 PM zhanx: that will work
09:19 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I'm a bit concerned about making it concentric
09:20 PM zhanx: glue the pieces up with wax paper between them
09:21 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Unless I start by chucking the tailstock bolt into the drill chuck
09:21 PM zhanx: drill your center hole, use that to chuck it up and taper the cone.
09:22 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha, the cone was gonna be 3D printed.
09:22 PM Jak_o_Shadows: also, it's kinda a removable thing
09:22 PM zhanx: then your bearings need to be changed up
09:23 PM zhanx: you have a drill press, cheap mdf would be a better idea
09:23 PM Jak_o_Shadows: hmm.
09:23 PM Jak_o_Shadows: that would remove the mounting plate by combining it with the bearing block
09:24 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I'd just need a drill bit so I could bore the bearing outer diameter right
09:24 PM zhanx: and be way more solid
09:24 PM zhanx: or
09:24 PM zhanx: once its chuck get it close with what you have and sand the rest to a good press fit
09:26 PM Jak_o_Shadows: How do I make sure it's centred after I remove and reinstall?
09:28 PM Mikeee: Any love for fanuc robots?
09:28 PM zhanx: center hole it and use threaded rod the same diameter, you drill one hole all the way through, 2 larger deeper holes to hold the nuts and its recentered
09:29 PM zhanx: once you get it jigged up on the rod and nuts, then you do the taper on it
09:29 PM zhanx: after the taper you do the bearing holes, which are shallower then the nut locations
11:02 PM rue_mohr: hi
11:02 PM rue_mohr: Jak_o_Shadows, making a lathe?
11:03 PM zhanx: no he is taking the drill press and adding a support to use it like one
11:03 PM rue_mohr: ah
11:04 PM rue_mohr: you CAN just get a live center for a lathe
11:04 PM rue_mohr: then you just need a taper reciever, and done
11:05 PM rue_mohr: if you anywhere in the world except here in canada, you can probably get one at the corner store
11:05 PM zhanx: or the states
11:05 PM zhanx: live centers can be made
11:41 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha, Australia has not too much in the way of hardware
11:41 PM Jak_o_Shadows: and yeah, the idea is just to do sanding and slight shaping of wood
11:41 PM Jak_o_Shadows: no metal, and no proper cutting
11:46 PM katsumi_: moin
11:53 PM rue_mohr: whaaat
11:54 PM rue_mohr: rifraf had like 3 corner stores and he could get anything
11:54 PM rue_mohr: you know I cant even get a metic drill bit out here?
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I got to import them from china
11:54 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ok, yeah, we're a lot furhter on the metric path than you
11:54 PM Jak_o_Shadows: rifraf probably knew where to go more
11:55 PM rue_mohr: I bought him a compressor, but I dont think he really knew what to do with it
11:55 PM Jak_o_Shadows: air compressor?
11:55 PM rue_mohr: yup
11:56 PM rue_mohr: odd, the details are fuzzy
11:56 PM rue_mohr: *sigh*
11:56 PM rue_mohr: that was an awesome supply shop tho
