01:45 PM EmilyVee: hey rue
07:11 PM rue_mohr: I just wike up!
07:11 PM zhanx: redid my helping hands rue_mohr for soldiering
07:11 PM zhanx: still don't like it
07:11 PM rue_mohr: ok, lets C
07:14 PM zhanx: k uploading
07:15 PM zhanx: internet is being slow
07:19 PM zhanx: well one is up https://i.imgur.com/hBGEpGM.jpg
07:24 PM zhanx: i am thinking about putting the covers back on the clips, they are one size up from the ones that came on it
07:24 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/4UW8kFq
07:25 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/rTNkpCI and the printer rod with a cheapo led mag glass
07:25 PM zhanx: I also have 2 clip on led mini spot lights to remove shadows
07:26 PM zhanx: and done rue_mohr
07:30 PM zhanx: and rue is back to sleep again
07:42 PM rue_shop1: no I'm
07:42 PM rue_shop1: moving things
07:43 PM zhanx: reason for the mod on the helping hands, the original rod and base were small and it was not illuminated before
07:43 PM zhanx: so now my hands fit fine
07:49 PM Wayfarer: hello zhanx
07:50 PM zhanx: hey Wayfarer
07:50 PM Wayfarer: is that 'zhan X' or 'shanks'?
07:50 PM zhanx: how ever you want to pronounce it
07:50 PM Wayfarer: whats the 'american pronounciation'?
07:50 PM Wayfarer: zhanks I think
07:50 PM zhanx: yep
07:51 PM Wayfarer: does it mean something?
07:51 PM Wayfarer: or just a variant of your irl name?
07:51 PM Wayfarer: mine is part of my 'wannabe company' name
07:51 PM zhanx: long story short, way back in the day I deleted a drug sim buy mistake and the inside name of was that
07:51 PM zhanx: so everyone started calling me that
07:52 PM Wayfarer: heh. gotcha
07:52 PM Wayfarer: so, I bought a truck today, need to go back and fix a small part to drive it home, return lines on the fuel
07:53 PM Wayfarer: a diesel f250, its from 92, no chip/computer
07:53 PM zhanx: fun
07:53 PM Wayfarer: beast of a machine
07:53 PM zhanx: and a beast on the wallet
07:53 PM Wayfarer: needs this n that, has 280K miles
07:53 PM Wayfarer: but, it was only $800 usd
07:54 PM zhanx: 280k on that engine? 7.2 right?
07:54 PM Wayfarer: the batteries and tires are worth that
07:54 PM Wayfarer: 7.3 yeah, no turbo
07:54 PM Wayfarer: I thik it was rebuilt at some point, new transfer case on the 4x4
07:54 PM zhanx: you can get like 200-300k more miles out of the engine
07:54 PM Wayfarer: frame was good
07:54 PM Wayfarer: yeah, if I bby it
07:55 PM zhanx: those diesels are work horses.
07:55 PM Wayfarer: and, I own some small acres, I can grow flax or sunflower and press for oil, make biodiesel
07:55 PM rue_shop1: zhanx, did you add or convert it to hold the magnifer?
07:55 PM zhanx: rue convert
07:55 PM Wayfarer: be nice if gas goes from $2.50/g to > $5/g
07:56 PM zhanx: rue_shop1, it was a hand held i found the handle unscrewed from
07:56 PM Wayfarer: it will move my concrete pump, my fifth wheel, etc around ok
07:56 PM zhanx: so i was lucky
07:56 PM Wayfarer: the big heavy tools
07:56 PM zhanx: yep
07:56 PM Wayfarer: so, to this channel, I ask, though specialized 'diesel powered robots'?
07:57 PM zhanx: pto powered?
07:57 PM zhanx: driven i should say
07:57 PM Wayfarer: realistically, probably diesel powered generator, and air compressor, for electric and pneumatic devices are practical
07:57 PM Wayfarer: programmable tractors exist
07:58 PM zhanx: i have seen gens with windows embedded controllers and the same for air compressors
07:59 PM Wayfarer: hmm. perhaps thats a nice IoT project, a remote for my compressor to show PSI, oil level, output, duty cycle, etc on my phone or HUD
08:00 PM Wayfarer: to turn it on and off, Id need a servo or stepper motor with control to adjust my PSI from the gun, that sort of thing. that could be really useful, especially an emergency cutoff
08:01 PM Wayfarer: its usually a bar switch you can hit easy, but you have to go to the compressor, so, just 'slap the button on your wrist' or whatever and a linear actuator pushes that bar switch, killing the electric, maybe purging the tank or whatever
08:02 PM Wayfarer: that, might be a good safety feature, like if you are up on a ladder working with a nail gun, or under a car with an impact driver or grinder
08:02 PM zhanx: i would never trust wifi with my life
08:03 PM Wayfarer: mm. maybe no 'wifi' but a direct radio signal
08:03 PM Wayfarer: wifi to me, implies 'using a network card and tcp/ip or udp etc'
08:03 PM zhanx: let me rephrase that, anything not directly wired
08:03 PM Wayfarer: but, not all wireless needs to be so complex
08:04 PM Wayfarer: well, then you have 2 choices, two wires, or a wired air hose
08:04 PM zhanx: you all ready have a wired air hose
08:04 PM zhanx: if you think about it
08:04 PM Wayfarer: my air hoses dont run electricity
08:05 PM zhanx: but they do have a braided core
08:05 PM Wayfarer: you would have to create one, and make sure its safe and strong and not subject to interference
08:06 PM Wayfarer: some do, it depends on the material, my rubber hoses dont, but my pvc do
08:06 PM Wayfarer: (ther might be some braid in ther??)
08:06 PM Wayfarer: but a lot are just nylon
08:06 PM Wayfarer: the braid
08:06 PM zhanx: depends on the hose
08:06 PM Wayfarer: you could make it metal, Id trust that less than a custom hose designed to work
08:07 PM Wayfarer: you have a connection to engineer
08:07 PM Wayfarer: idk... wireless is maybe, simpler and easier
08:07 PM Wayfarer: idk, just thinking
08:07 PM zhanx: sound board of ideas
08:08 PM Wayfarer: I have remote stuff for my solar charger
08:08 PM Wayfarer: and yo ucan get remote stuff for generators
08:08 PM Wayfarer: 'what gimmick can I sell to carpenters and auto mechanics in the 21st century!'
08:09 PM Wayfarer: and, whats simple for me to start with?
08:09 PM zhanx: not alot snap-on has us on a short rope
08:09 PM Wayfarer: I own no snap=on tools
08:09 PM zhanx: only reason i do, I worked in the field and need the no questions asked warranty
08:10 PM Wayfarer: hmm, maybe something less critical... how about solar powered yard lights?
08:10 PM Wayfarer: I bet
08:10 PM Wayfarer: maybe, turn them on and off, control fountains, change light colors
08:10 PM zhanx: those would be nice
08:10 PM Wayfarer: 'magic garden' TM
08:10 PM * zhanx adds that to the garden mesh list
08:11 PM Wayfarer: add in some watering and irrigation, some soil sensors, an AR interface, some info feedback on the greenhouse
08:11 PM Wayfarer: oh, you do garden stuff too?
08:11 PM zhanx: already have all that
08:11 PM Wayfarer: robotic seeder
08:11 PM zhanx: no
08:12 PM zhanx: my garden is too big for that
08:12 PM Wayfarer: like a little car that drives, and pokes a hole at depth, at interval, and drops a seed load
08:12 PM Wayfarer: big version builds fences
08:12 PM * zhanx looks at the 4x4 rc car the kids stop playing with
08:12 PM Wayfarer: and for years, Ive had the notion, of 'robo brick layer'
08:13 PM Wayfarer: there go
08:14 PM zhanx: brick layer was done
08:16 PM Wayfarer: yeah, I had 30 years I should have believe in myself, instead of letting someone else get the patent
08:17 PM Wayfarer: 'my bad'
08:18 PM zhanx: yep
08:21 PM zhanx: rue i ordered those irf4905's I had forgotten too
08:22 PM zhanx: so i can turn off the accessories when i am not using them
08:23 PM zhanx: waiting on stock for the mini usb hub that is really headerless micro hub
