06:19 AM Jak_o_Shadows: veverak, my big idea for the quadrapod leg is to put https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB11sKRSXXXXXcgXFXXq6xXFXXXP.jpg?size=34129&height=600&width=600&hash=d29b67da9149e72ee1d666869ad68ed2 as an integral part
06:20 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Put one of the kitchen scale legs as part of the structure.
06:20 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Which, admittedly, needs some testing - I'm not sure if you would get axial loads, or if it's just transverse
06:21 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I figure if you have some idea of motor torque & position, you might be able to feed it into some kind of estimator
06:22 AM Jak_o_Shadows: and well, it might be possible to add some kind of other sensor that is only suitable for axial, and resolve it somehow
06:23 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It's an interesting problem.
06:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: In some ways, for that sensor, it's probably easier if it only does transverse OR axial. Both probably complicates things a bunch.
06:25 AM * Jak_o_Shadows wonders if transverse only force sensors as part of a rotary stewart platform would give you the forces and moments.
06:41 AM veverak: Jak_o_Shadows: yeah, it's interesting quest to solve
08:58 AM rue_mohr: you want the weight of a full 3d vector?
08:59 AM rue_mohr: --
09:00 AM veverak: would be nice
09:19 AM rue_mohr: aha, what RANGE
09:19 AM rue_mohr: pneumatic pressure sensors +
10:09 AM veverak: not sure
10:10 AM veverak: upper limit should be 1kg per leg
10:10 AM veverak: so, let's 5kg max
11:18 AM horohoro: hello everyone
11:41 AM veverak: rue_mohr: here is the thing
11:41 AM veverak: rue_mohr: I do not know what I really want
11:41 AM veverak: I need to test motion planning
11:41 AM veverak: for that I need feedback about what the robot is doing
11:41 AM veverak: that is all I have
11:41 AM veverak: so I have to figure out what is a good set of sensors to get that sensible information for motion planning testing
12:09 PM Wayfarer: I am learning C. Im interested in an inexpensive SBC or wearable platform to do experiments
12:09 PM Wayfarer: Id like to: make my own gameboy, laptop. make automated greenhouse systems. make 'odd robots to help with chores'
12:10 PM Wayfarer: much of this is lofty, where to start small and see results?
12:10 PM Wayfarer: Ive an old laptop with serial and parallel ports. I thought Id use that, and put linux on it.
12:10 PM Wayfarer: recommendations?
12:33 PM veverak: start small and do it well
12:33 PM veverak: or just start small
12:34 PM veverak: Wayfarer: I think it's better to do multiple smaller projects in this case
12:34 PM veverak: and based on your description, I think arduino may be relevant
03:13 PM Wayfarer: so, besides the arduino itself?
03:13 PM Wayfarer: the forest for the trees problem there
03:13 PM Wayfarer: rPi? a Ti board? et
03:14 PM zhanx: Wayfarer, seems like your starting in the right place
03:14 PM zhanx: rpi
03:15 PM veverak: Wayfarer: master arduino and things around it, than it depends
03:15 PM zhanx: when you get ready for the greenhouse let me know
03:15 PM veverak: you can either try to use things like arduino
03:15 PM veverak: or bettech embedded chips, like stm32
03:16 PM veverak: but solving opening few windows and lighting bulbs with raspberry pi is a waste of raspberry pi processor
03:16 PM veverak: (by my opinion)
03:16 PM zhanx: veverak, it is, i do all of mine with 4 wemos d1's
03:17 PM veverak: yeah, ESP's are interesting platform for this
03:18 PM zhanx: Wayfarer, setup the laptop you have to program an arduino, that is the first step
03:18 PM zhanx: walk through the starter programs so you get an idea what is going on
03:29 PM veverak: Wayfarer: in robotics, I would avoid things like raspberry unless I absolutely necessary need that computing power
03:32 PM zhanx: veverak, rue calls mine the super computer for a robot
03:32 PM veverak: :D
04:08 PM Wayfarer: i meant more the arduino brand
04:11 PM zhanx: Wayfarer, where do you live
04:13 PM Wayfarer: about 5 miles from a highway, in the forest
04:14 PM Wayfarer: this camper is kinda cramped, but its not bad.
04:14 PM Wayfarer: need to clean it
04:14 PM Wayfarer: wait, did you mean country/region?
04:15 PM Wayfarer: the US. Im kinda partial to ti
04:15 PM Wayfarer: but not religious or anything
04:15 PM Wayfarer: (I actually dont like arduino itself for several reasons)
04:16 PM Wayfarer: start with: forest for the trees, and add in 'including the kitchen sink'
04:16 PM Wayfarer: same reason I have 'website builder sites'
04:16 PM Wayfarer: hate^
09:51 PM zhanx: like crickets tonight
10:07 PM rue_mohr: most nights
11:28 PM Storyteller is now known as Wayfarer
