01:56 AM polprog: rue_mohr: whats that trick with the square wave and units
06:24 AM mun: is the differential on a rocker bogie optional or necessary?
06:25 AM mun: anyone know?
06:26 AM mun: is it that, with the differential, the wheels of the lower rocker and bogie remain flat to the ground whilst the other bogie is climbing?
06:28 AM deshipu: I think rocker-bogie usually has independent motor per every wheel
06:28 AM deshipu: no differential
06:28 AM mun: i've seen builds using a differential though
06:28 AM deshipu: hard to imagine for me
06:28 AM mun: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocker-bogie
06:28 AM deshipu: since the left and right sides are usually independent...
06:29 AM mun: maybe because one side could tilt if the other side is climbing?
06:29 AM mun: https://seelio.com/w/2f4j/rocker-bogie-mechanism
06:30 AM deshipu: ah, you mean differential for the joints, not for the wheels
06:30 AM mun: yeah, for the joint
06:30 AM deshipu: that is needed to keep the chassis level
06:31 AM deshipu: I suppose you could instead make it hang freely like a pendulum
06:31 AM deshipu: but that will have a tendency to swing
06:31 AM mun: yeah
06:33 AM mun: deshipu is this differential effectively a pendulum though? https://github.com/Roger-random/Sawppy_Rover/blob/master/docs/AssembleDifferential.md
06:33 AM mun: it seems to use a bearing rather than gears
06:34 AM mun: "The differential pivots about the center of the rover body to distribute suspension motion across to the other side of the rover."
06:35 AM deshipu: what's in a name
06:36 AM mun: to me, a 'differential' involves gears

06:41 AM c0mrade: Oops sorry
06:41 AM c0mrade: I've made an IRC bot that prints to a Star Dot Matrix printer from ##robot and put it on Live Stream on YouTube at https://youtu.be/kwUUwV3GmF8
