01:20 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
06:15 AM veverak: https://learn.adafruit.com/16-channel-pwm-servo-driver/downloads
06:15 AM veverak: hmm
06:15 AM veverak: the circuit for the pca9685 is really simply
06:16 AM veverak: so, it makes sense to make "perfect fit" custom board with this one
06:16 AM veverak: I am thinking a shiled on stm32l432kc
06:22 AM deshipu: veverak: it's actually overcomplicated, you don't need all the resistors
06:22 AM veverak: deshipu: yeah, noticed that too
06:23 AM deshipu: veverak: https://www.tindie.com/products/deshipu/16-channel-servo-shield-for-d1-mini-version-20/
06:24 AM veverak: deshipu: nice!
11:07 AM Inside: Hey guys - I want to make a camera mount that points at one location (kinda like a gimbal) while I drive around it
11:07 AM Inside: specifically my city has an inner highway loop and I want to focus on downtown and take some time lapse footage
11:09 AM Inside: I'm guessing I'll need two modules: gps and also a gyro to calculate the location + heading
11:10 AM Inside: before dropping a few hundred bucks on this - anyone care to guess if I'm going to run into issues with "jitter" (ie: poor reading from the gps or gyro leading to bad calculations and/or the camera feedback loop not maintaining focus?)
11:17 AM deshipu: Inside: gps has very poor accuracy
11:17 AM Inside: hmmm
11:18 AM deshipu: Inside: and dead-reconing with IMU is going to be tricky
11:18 AM Inside: I guess I meant a magnetometer is what I meant
11:18 AM Inside: Here's a better problem statement: I want to focus something at the center of a 1mile diameter circle
11:21 AM Inside: oh hey - technically you can calculate orientation with GPS coordinates. Hmmm.
11:22 AM deshipu: is there anything in or near the point that you want to focus on that is easy to recognize?
11:22 AM Inside: yeah - tower of the americas in san antonio :D
11:23 AM deshipu: then perhaps it will be easier to go with opencv and image recognition
11:23 AM Inside: hmmmm
11:23 AM Inside: it'd be obscured half the time though which is unfortunate
11:23 AM deshipu: you can use a magnetometer/compass to keep a static heading
11:24 AM Inside: ah true true
11:24 AM Inside: then a feedback loop to say.. two steppers to keep it centered
11:24 AM Inside: (yaw & pitch)
11:27 AM Inside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16wCUMcpOZE wonder how good the footage is from something like this
11:27 AM Inside: well actually if we can see the lens jerking then pretty bad
11:33 AM Tom_itx: spend your money tapping into the traffic cams. higher quality pics i bet
11:41 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
11:53 AM Inside: hahahaha
11:53 AM Inside: :"(
12:02 PM rue_bed2: Tom_L, your balancer, how did you tweek the value for the stable position?
12:11 PM rue_mohr: oo computer problem, biab
12:18 PM Tom_L: that was like 200 yrs ago... dunno
01:35 PM rue_: --
01:35 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
01:40 PM rue_mohr: ok, I'm almost awake
01:40 PM rue_mohr: nobody wants to work togethor on a project with anynone
01:41 PM * rue_mohr bumps zhanx
01:41 PM rue_mohr: its utterly hopeless
02:10 PM rue_mohr: the freq gen I made has a 100M:1 ratio, thats kinda cool.
02:11 PM rue_mohr: explains why its all over the range of my scope
02:55 PM Inside: rue_mohr: what are you making
03:18 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, i tried but we decided it would be fruitless
03:18 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, here's a challenge for you
03:19 PM Tom_L: rework your frequency generator in a fpga
04:04 PM rue_mohr: no
04:07 PM anonnumberanon: rue_mohr, do you want to make a cardboard and hanger FPGA? come on
04:09 PM anonnumberanon: what's the store again? aliexpress?
04:10 PM Tom_L: he stalls out when it comes to fpga for some reason
04:11 PM anonnumberanon: why is my aliexpress stuck on the NL version omg
04:11 PM anonnumberanon: (nederlands)
04:12 PM Tom_L: someone told me upper right corner you can switch it iirc
04:12 PM anonnumberanon: silly me, thanks
04:14 PM anonnumberanon: digikey is really retarded to sell their stm32f103c8t6 for $3 that's really high
04:14 PM anonnumberanon: I guess you'd get the chips in a few days though, instead of weeks to a month
04:40 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, cardbaord!?
04:40 PM rue_mohr: $3 per thousand, iirc they want like $10ea
04:41 PM anonnumberanon: i was joking rue_mohr
04:41 PM rue_mohr: oh
04:41 PM anonnumberanon: at digikey they sell the chip like 3 dollars and aliexpress sells it for like 15 cents
04:41 PM rue_mohr: so, shop fileserver crashed, on reboot bios said there was a hardware fault
04:42 PM rue_mohr: the cpu overheated
04:42 PM rue_mohr: heatsink needed a rework
04:42 PM rue_mohr: then it wouldn't boot the scsi drive
04:42 PM rue_mohr: turned out, the scsi card had failed.
04:43 PM anonnumberanon: k, massive hardware failure
06:10 PM rue_mohr: just unrelated failure
06:10 PM rue_mohr: the system has been segfaulting, scsi related
06:11 PM rue_mohr: I been doing all sorts of stuff, I recapped the motherbaord early this year (it needed it)
07:34 PM rue_shop1: --
