12:56 AM mun: i wonder how i could make sure my rover doesn't step into a geofence. for instance, i have a map of my house and i have a geofence of the shape of a kidney bean.
01:00 AM mun: how do i check if the current position of my rover isn't behind the geofence?
01:06 AM Triffid_Hunter: mun: cast a ray to infinity, count how many walls it crosses. if even, you're outside. if odd, you're inside
01:07 AM Triffid_Hunter: pretty standard way of doing occupancy checks with potentially concave solids
01:08 AM mun: Triffid_Hunter cool. is there a name for this method?
01:08 AM Triffid_Hunter: mun: perhaps, but I don't know it off-hand
01:10 AM SleepyTurtle: what's a geofence?
01:26 AM mun: SleepyTurtle a virtual geographic perimeter
01:31 AM SleepyTurtle: I see
01:31 AM SleepyTurtle: thanks
04:50 AM VansFannel: Hi1
04:50 AM VansFannel: Hi!
04:51 AM amenji: Hey
04:52 AM VansFannel: What's Velocity Smoother? I have found that: "When your robot is switching direction or velocity a lot, the movement can get jerky. (This is particularly an issue with the wanderer and later.)". It is something that make the robot moves nicer, isn't it?
04:54 AM Triffid_Hunter: so a motion planner I guess
04:55 AM VansFannel: I'm reading a book about ROS and it said: "differential_teleop_key already has its own built in velocity smoother".
04:55 AM VansFannel: differential_teleop_key is here: https://github.com/jocacace/diff_wheeled_robot_control/blob/master/scripts/diff_wheeled_robot_key
05:49 AM tsglove2 is now known as tsglove
03:01 PM Mikeee: I'd like to make a UI/HMI for some educational fanuc robots. Maybe 10 I/O to just simulate signal coming from an ethernet connected device. I can build the UI in C++ on an esp8266 no problem, but I know nothing about protocols PLCs use to communicate
03:02 PM Mikeee: does anyone have any good place to direct me to code libraries/examples that successfully emulate or act as a PLC (or whatever devices fanuc can connect to)
04:00 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest94769

08:30 PM robotustra: M
08:32 PM robotustra: M is for motor
08:36 PM Tom_L: M is for mortar
08:45 PM robotustra: how it's going so far?
09:13 PM Tom_L: it's survivable
09:14 PM robotustra: why do you surviving?
09:15 PM Tom_L: better than not surviving
09:16 PM zhanx: so on that note
09:16 PM zhanx: ODD
09:18 PM Tom_L: so will you be present when hour 27 rolls around?
09:18 PM zhanx: yep
09:19 PM zhanx: gonna pause it before bed
09:19 PM Tom_L: do 3d printers resume ok?
09:19 PM zhanx: if you store them right
09:20 PM zhanx: you have to increase layer temp on first layer also
09:20 PM rue_mohr: oo life
09:20 PM Tom_L: so i did a little more on the macro
09:20 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, same printer, 250x250x150mm print height
09:20 PM Tom_L: got RH LH threads now and lead in moves whether you start at the top or bottom
09:21 PM rue_mohr: mhm
09:21 PM zhanx: before i oops at 150x150x100
09:22 PM Tom_L: zhanx, sent out my first automated txt today :)
09:22 PM zhanx: nice
09:22 PM zhanx: it worked then
09:22 PM Tom_L: thanks for the insight
09:22 PM Tom_L: seemed to
09:22 PM Tom_L: i sent one to me in the batch and i got it
09:23 PM zhanx: not insight, just different view like you help me with
09:23 PM zhanx: so sense everyone is here,
09:24 PM zhanx: someone dropped a 15" cold steal tanto blade in my car with holster
09:25 PM Tom_L: clean or bloody?
09:25 PM Tom_L: don't fingerprint it
09:25 PM zhanx: brand new in package
09:25 PM zhanx: 215 dollar knife
09:25 PM Tom_L: any clue where it originated?
09:26 PM Tom_L: stolen from store...
09:26 PM Tom_L: any serial numbers?
09:26 PM zhanx: everyone claims stupid and cold steel said can't release that
09:27 PM Tom_L: guess you own a new knife
09:27 PM zhanx: its just over NY size not to reg, so i did
09:27 PM zhanx: and yeo
09:27 PM zhanx: yep
09:28 PM zhanx: at first i was worried some one was setting me up or something
09:30 PM Tom_L: got your business taxes all ready to go?
09:31 PM zhanx: almost waiting on one document, gas card
09:31 PM Tom_L: i had W2's out 1/1
09:31 PM zhanx: i broken neg 1700 so far
09:31 PM Tom_L: day off and no reason to celebrate...
09:32 PM Tom_L: loss?
09:32 PM zhanx: yep, which surprised me
09:32 PM Tom_L: you're not in business for that
09:32 PM zhanx: i thought i was 5000 over
09:33 PM rue_mohr: :/
09:33 PM rue_mohr: what do you think did it?
09:34 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, printer was hard programmed to 150x150x150
09:34 PM rue_mohr: yup
09:34 PM zhanx: now its 6000x6000x6000mm
09:34 PM rue_mohr: iirc I had to adjust firmware for my big oe
09:34 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:35 PM rue_mohr: you'll feel it next time its trying to strip a belt
09:35 PM zhanx: yes 3d printer laptop has all the mods and changes and uploads to it only now
09:35 PM zhanx: that was a pita
09:35 PM Tom_L: the bed isn't that big is it?
09:35 PM rue_mohr: no
09:36 PM zhanx: no Tom_L is 290x314x190
09:36 PM orlock: i think i am going to try print a powered hacksaw
09:36 PM rue_mohr: if he tried to make a 6m bed, we would hear about the challanges leveling it for a week
09:36 PM rue_mohr: orlock, or just make one
09:36 PM Tom_L: that one was cute
09:36 PM zhanx: no my bed came from corning glass +- 0001
09:37 PM Tom_L: so why the extreme limits?
09:37 PM rue_mohr: mhm, I been given a lot of stories about glass and how flat it all is
09:37 PM Tom_L: measure it with a laser
09:37 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, the local factory makes glass for satellites
09:38 PM Tom_L: for the hubble? :)
09:38 PM zhanx: i got a bad piece
09:38 PM rue_mohr: oooh
09:38 PM orlock: that won't be flat glass
09:38 PM rue_mohr: well
09:38 PM orlock: ;)
09:38 PM zhanx: yep Tom_L they did that here
09:38 PM rue_mohr: if they SAY its flat, its prolly damn close enough
09:38 PM Tom_L: the glass was good but the specs were wrong
09:39 PM Tom_L: imbarrasment for NASA
09:39 PM orlock: Tom_L: contractor fucked up measuring it
09:39 PM orlock: and ignored the report saying it was wrong
09:39 PM zhanx: rue they cut it and spun it under a dial indicator, it never moved
09:39 PM rue_mohr: yea
09:40 PM rue_mohr: if its not a window pane, yea
09:40 PM zhanx: this is not spec glass to them
09:40 PM zhanx: raydon, or how ever its spelled glass
09:43 PM Tom_L: is it tempered?
09:43 PM zhanx: no clue
09:43 PM rue_mohr: how thick?
09:44 PM zhanx: 2 mm
09:44 PM rue_mohr: cool
09:44 PM zhanx: so it was like this
09:44 PM zhanx: go to local hardware store need, glass for the 3d printer, dude was like my brother works there
09:45 PM rue_mohr: hah
09:45 PM zhanx: 20 mile drive 2.99 later i have a print bed
09:45 PM Tom_L: i had that happen with my UV paint i got free
09:45 PM zhanx: ish they only took cash
09:45 PM rue_mohr: sweet
09:46 PM zhanx: so i didn't have enough cash for 2 pieces
09:46 PM zhanx: i had barely enough change
09:47 PM zhanx: rue its 8.99 for a 4mm flat glass cut
09:48 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:48 PM zhanx: yea i making a green house with that
09:51 PM rue_mohr: ok, so my m328 code should be completely happy on a m88
09:51 PM rue_mohr: k
09:52 PM zhanx: so the local radio station is having a north country has talent thing
09:53 PM zhanx: my wife is number 1 and her brother is number 2, for the next hour
09:54 PM zhanx: top competitors might jump by a few million soon
09:55 PM zhanx: cheating on votes is disqualification
10:22 PM Tom_L: huh
