10:53 PM goppo: hi
10:58 PM zhanx: hi
10:58 PM goppo: i'm looking at the construction of an robotic arm https://i.imgur.com/QnhvaGq.png
10:58 PM goppo: hi zhanx
10:58 PM goppo: there are 2 black clamps that seem to be holding the arms fixed
10:58 PM goppo: but how do these clamps hold two metal pieces together?
10:58 PM goppo: the clamps don't seem to be held fixed
10:58 PM zhanx: they are not holding it fixed, that is an eod pack bot or the like?
10:58 PM goppo: zhanx yeah https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/IRobot_PackBot_510_E.T..JPG
10:58 PM Tom_L: squeeze clamp
10:58 PM zhanx: ^
10:58 PM zhanx: goppo, thought i recognized it
10:58 PM goppo: but squeeze clamps can squeeze metal pipes?
10:58 PM goppo: zhanx well spotted :)
10:58 PM zhanx: yes its flanged
10:58 PM goppo: oh, the pipes are flanged?
10:58 PM zhanx: spent a bit if time in the army
10:58 PM zhanx: yep
10:58 PM goppo: cool
10:58 PM Tom_L: zhanx i still need to add one more move :)
10:58 PM zhanx: now what?
10:58 PM Tom_L: a final linear move at the end of each helix back to center
10:58 PM Tom_L: instead of straight up
10:58 PM Tom_L: in case it catches on the edge of something
10:58 PM zhanx: oh that is just a Final_helix_r move
10:58 PM Tom_L: for both helix
10:58 PM Tom_L: shouldn't be hard, just need to count elements
10:59 PM Tom_L: just thought of that
10:59 PM zhanx: it just a move back from first point is all
10:59 PM Tom_L: yeah i just gotta add the line move x 2
10:59 PM zhanx: you know where you started, pass that
10:59 PM Tom_L: i have all the data yes
11:00 PM goppo: hmm i'm still having a hard time imagining how it's assembled. so the squeeze clamp is meant to deform the metal pipe by tightening the set screw?
11:00 PM Tom_L: i just gotta figure where to insert it in the list
11:00 PM zhanx: after the fun of the math yesterday that is simple
11:00 PM goppo: surely the threads would get stripped
11:00 PM Tom_L: yup
11:00 PM zhanx: goppo, the pipes its clamping are two half c's
11:00 PM zhanx: with groves on them
11:00 PM zhanx: not saying more till i know what your making and why
11:01 PM * zhanx could probably get in trouble for it really
11:01 PM Tom_L: zhanx i was just comparing it to one i did manually and realized i had those moves there
11:01 PM goppo: i'm trying to make a simple arm that can stand weather
11:01 PM goppo: with just 2 servos
11:02 PM zhanx: k, its got 3 rubber seals in it
11:02 PM zhanx: they sit on the c parts of the arm not the clamp
11:03 PM goppo: hmm why 3?
11:03 PM zhanx: sand water dust
11:03 PM goppo: ah, right
11:03 PM zhanx: mind you its 3 on each side
11:04 PM zhanx: Tom_L, I should make a packbot, i fixed them enough
11:04 PM goppo: :)
11:06 PM goppo: upon looking closely, is that one of the grooves? https://i.imgur.com/EAcMFlG.png
11:06 PM zhanx: no that is an alignment mark
11:06 PM goppo: oh right
11:24 PM goppo: if a seal can block out water, can it not block out dust?
11:37 PM Tom_L: got one of em
11:38 PM zhanx: goppo, hard vs soft
11:43 PM Tom_L: got both
11:43 PM zhanx: nice
11:44 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Smartcam/ThreadMill.mcl
11:44 PM Tom_L: that should be done now
11:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Smartcam/threadmacro5.jpg
11:47 PM Tom_L: you can see the lead out at the top now
