05:52 AM horohoro: hello everyone
08:09 AM veverak: deshipu: you are using OpenMV?
08:09 AM veverak: deshipu: how well it does track lines?
09:09 AM DrunkenDwarf: Hi all. my first time doing slightly larger robotics. I'm making a 2 joined arm, but each part of the limb is about 2m long and made from 25mm tubular steel, so it's heavier than anything ive done before. Needs to be microcontroller controlled, am I right in thinking for that size/weight i dont really want to be looking at servos/motors for the joints and should look more towards hydraulic/phnematic cylenders? or am I missing the mark on some
09:09 AM DrunkenDwarf: beefy servos? Cause ive seen industrial robots which dont seem to have hydraulics anywhere
09:16 AM deshipu: veverak: it's still lying in my drawer
09:16 AM veverak: I see
09:18 AM deshipu: DrunkenDwarf: large industrial robots use custom stepper motors with custom gearboxes and custom encoders
09:18 AM deshipu: they are called "servos" but they are nothing like hobby servos
09:22 AM DrunkenDwarf: deshipu, so, as a relative beginner to this sort of stuff. (my main work is smaller level robotics with standard steppers) that seems a little above my level, Im thinking prewired actuators like this to facilitate movement? https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/linear-actuators/7643471/
09:26 AM deshipu: DrunkenDwarf: I'm a hobbyist dealing for whom hobby servos are a challenge, I'm probably not the best person to ask.
09:26 AM deshipu: DrunkenDwarf: that linear actuator is for furniture, iirc
09:27 AM veverak: btw
09:27 AM veverak: speaking of :)
09:27 AM veverak: deshipu: they make 9g smart servos

09:28 AM deshipu: how smart are they?
09:28 AM veverak: feedbacks position/speed
09:28 AM deshipu: I wonder how they fit them in 9g with metal gears
09:29 AM veverak: I wonder too
09:29 AM veverak: however
09:29 AM veverak: stm32 exists in small packages
09:29 AM veverak: :)
09:29 AM deshipu: electronics is not a problem
09:29 AM deshipu: I mean the gears
09:29 AM veverak: thing is
09:30 AM veverak: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LOBOT-Bus-Micro-Servo-LX-15D-Motor-Metal-Gear-TTL-USB-Debug-Board-Remote-Control-RC/32957861470.html are just better for slightly higher price
09:31 AM deshipu: still pretty much impossible if you need 12 of them
09:31 AM veverak: well
09:31 AM * veverak just got stamp of approval from lab. professor for 20 of them
09:31 AM veverak: (because this is my diploma thesis)
09:31 AM deshipu: yay
09:31 AM deshipu: congrats :)
09:31 AM veverak: thanks
09:31 AM veverak: deshipu: it will be hexapod with two legs off
09:32 AM deshipu: or a quadruped with two extra smaller legs
09:32 AM veverak: the motion controller I want to make is primarily for quadruped robots, but should work hexa too
09:32 AM veverak: having chance to try that is quite nice I believe
09:32 AM deshipu: it is
09:33 AM deshipu: also, I like the direction in which those prices go
09:33 AM deshipu: maybe in two years...
09:33 AM veverak: yup
09:33 AM veverak: tbh, 14$/piece is actually something I would consider buying by myself
09:33 AM veverak: (12 of them, that is )
09:34 AM deshipu: half that for me
09:34 AM deshipu: but I might go for a 8-servo quadruped
09:34 AM deshipu: mammalian
09:34 AM veverak: two years seems reasonable :)
09:35 AM deshipu: yeah, I should about a week of productive free time in that span
09:35 AM deshipu: I should have*
09:35 AM veverak: :D
09:35 AM * veverak got burn-out-like day last week
09:35 AM veverak: decide to fuck everything and reduce my load for next semestr a lot
09:36 AM deshipu: I'm hoarding vacation days
09:36 AM deshipu: if all goes well, I will take 2 months of vacation this year
09:37 AM veverak: wow, nice
09:37 AM veverak: so many totes to build?
09:37 AM deshipu: who knows, maybe I will dump all this and get back to drawing
09:38 AM veverak: drawing?
09:38 AM * veverak wants to do sports
09:38 AM deshipu: I used to draw a lot
09:38 AM veverak: and not that I think "I have to", but really "want to"
09:38 AM veverak: wow, nice :)
09:41 AM veverak: deshipu: anyway, due to the "I need to slack off" thing
09:42 AM veverak: I am skipping the intership in switzerland
09:42 AM veverak: I should be able to get to zurich however during Phd. studies
09:42 AM veverak: or... I want to
09:42 AM veverak: I have to go somewhere anyway and ETH in zurich is one of the best in motion planning AFIK
09:51 AM deshipu: veverak: if you are ever in Zurich, we have a guestroom where you can stay
09:51 AM deshipu: veverak: I mean, for a week or so
09:51 AM veverak: wow, nice!
09:51 AM veverak: I mean, I definetly want to pay a visit :)

05:28 PM anonnumberanon: broke my collar bone :{ typing at 2 miles an hour
05:30 PM Tom_L: don't type so fast next time
06:09 PM anonnumberanon: lol
06:10 PM anonnumberanon: gonna be at least a week until i can use my right arm
06:10 PM anonnumberanon: sigh...
06:26 PM orlock: how did you do that?
06:35 PM anonnumberanon: car a ccident we hit a tree dead on at ~40
06:36 PM anonnumberanon: broke my nose and collar bone :(
07:11 PM rue_mohr: !!!!!!!!!!
07:11 PM rue_mohr: you weren't driving and texting were you!?
07:12 PM orlock: i assum'd it was due to snow/ice?
07:12 PM orlock: hmm
07:12 PM orlock: i nee to get my airbags replaced
07:16 PM orlock: anonnumberanon: was the tree ok?
07:25 PM deshipu: veverak: more on those servos: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b3v81sb9nwir16q/AABHb3nPSC7uUFfrnu30RyrCa?dl=0
07:26 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, lets check your brain, quick whats ((((A=1)|0x02)<<3)&5 != 0x47)+2)%1 ????
07:39 PM Tom_L: 0?
09:50 PM durrf2 is now known as durrfbot
09:50 PM rue_mohr: heh, not sure
09:51 PM rue_mohr: sounds right, you got a 50% chance anyhow
09:56 PM Tom_L: what you workin on?
10:01 PM rue_mohr: did grocery shopping, I'm veggitating
10:04 PM orlock: ugh
10:04 PM orlock: i have to poke at a speedo
10:06 PM Tom_L: hah, found my sprocket macro
10:07 PM Tom_L: for #25 - 240 ASA chain size
10:39 PM rue_mohr: doing a sprocket?
10:39 PM Tom_L: no but i found the macro to make them
10:42 PM Tom_L: trying to figure out how to set the text color in the dialog box
10:43 PM orlock: Sprocket?
10:43 PM orlock: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/muppet/images/3/38/FraggleRock-Sprocket.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101120181419
10:47 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:47 PM rue_mohr: I cant remmeber if they ever did anything in that show
