#robotics Calendar

12:00 AM rue_: no its not, look, if I take this knife and stab you, you'll be just fine, comere' I'll show ya
12:03 AM flav0r: what knife?
12:03 AM flav0r: the knife isnt real dude
12:03 AM rue_: damnit, where did this mouse come from...
12:03 AM rue_: it was a knife, I swear
12:08 AM rue_ changed topic of #robotics to: 'If you ask a question, you must wait for the answer. | if you are muted see: http://git.io/zrffqw | O is for optoelectronic.'
12:09 AM -!- #robotics mode set to -o by rue_
12:10 AM rue_: ace4016, AchiestDragon akaWolf hackkitten Jak_o_Shadows mrdata polprog SpeedEvil Triffid_Hunter anyone of you guys got any projects going latley??
12:11 AM rue_: Ahti, what are you up to?
12:11 AM rue_: bolt, what makes you interested in robotics?
12:11 AM rue_: Crenn-NAS, are you building robots?
12:11 AM rue_: DIRT, gardening or what?
12:12 AM rue_: dmiles, whats your favorite microcontroller?
12:12 AM rue_: energizer, battery powered?
12:12 AM energizer: yes
12:12 AM rue_: eryc, ever programmed a robotic arm?
12:12 AM rue_: energizer, rechargable?
12:13 AM rue_: flav0r, do you have a project going?
12:13 AM flav0r: yeah dude i just got done routing a board for another clock
12:13 AM rue_: Guest88903, what makes you hang out here? why the browser?
12:13 AM rue_: flav0r, clock?
12:13 AM rue_: led? mechanical?
12:13 AM flav0r: gonna send it out to be made ... the previous one i made that was similar i hand made
12:13 AM flav0r: yah nixie clocks
12:13 AM rue_: oooh
12:14 AM rue_: hows finding tubes these days?
12:14 AM flav0r: still easy enough on ebay
12:14 AM rue_: hackkitten, what are you up to these days?
12:14 AM flav0r: i havent bought any in a little while
12:14 AM rue_: flav0r, is russia making them again?
12:14 AM flav0r: actually i got some in-13's in the mail today
12:14 AM flav0r: well nah ... they are just NOS
12:14 AM rue_: hive-mind, you doing microcontroller clustering or is it just a nick?
12:15 AM rue_: flav0r, amazing there were that many of them
12:15 AM flav0r: well the clock i just got done routing for uses burroughs tubes (made in england)
12:15 AM rue_: humerusj, ok, whats the j for?
12:15 AM flav0r: but ive used soviet stuff before
12:15 AM rue_: flav0r, what you using for drivers?
12:15 AM flav0r: hv5530
12:16 AM rue_: ? a driver?
12:16 AM rue_: ib0t, what kinda bot are you?
12:16 AM rue_: jadew, do you build robots?
12:16 AM flav0r: https://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/en/HV5530
12:16 AM rue_: what voltage are you running?
12:16 AM flav0r: about 170
12:17 AM rue_: thats an insane chip, for piezo inkjet maybe?
12:17 AM rue_: oh its for displays, crazy
12:18 AM flav0r: pretty simple to use
12:18 AM rue_: yea
12:18 AM flav0r: need 2 of them
12:18 AM rue_: shift reg.
12:18 AM flav0r: also got them for free as samples
12:18 AM rue_: nice
12:18 AM flav0r: so i stocked up !
12:18 AM flav0r: i have about 30 of them :)
12:18 AM rue_: are you muxing the segments or all individual runs?
12:18 AM flav0r: and another flavor i have a few of those too
12:18 AM flav0r: all individual
12:18 AM rue_: how many digits on your clock?
12:18 AM flav0r: 6
12:19 AM rue_: huh
12:19 AM flav0r: each chip can do 32
12:19 AM rue_: jason_, what coding languages do you know
12:19 AM rue_: flav0r, yea
12:19 AM flav0r: so thats a total of 64
12:19 AM rue_: joga, yoda of jokes?
12:19 AM rue_: so 2 of the 4 are for a colon?
12:19 AM rue_: JPaul, what do you do?
12:20 AM flav0r: yeah
12:20 AM rue_: using neon lamps as colons?
12:20 AM rue_: k3g, have you ever said anything?
12:20 AM rue_: KimK, what kinda projects do you do?
12:20 AM rue_: Kostenko, russia??
12:21 AM rue_: krunk, you making robots too?
12:21 AM flav0r: an d i also use 2 for decimal points
12:21 AM rue_: Luminax, you in school or is robotics a hobby?
12:21 AM flav0r: yeah for my original like this one i didnt have colons
12:21 AM flav0r: on these i will use some .. ummmm
12:22 AM rue_: doyou have to use a full tube for the hour 10's?
12:22 AM rue_: Malvolio, what is the best colour for a power led?
12:22 AM flav0r: NE-2
12:23 AM rue_: Modeuse, even done a wifi robot?
12:23 AM flav0r: you asking if i have all the digits wired up even tho they arent really needed ?
12:23 AM flav0r: yes
12:23 AM rue_: so, the clock has extra functions?
12:23 AM flav0r: not yet!
12:24 AM rue_: mulvane, what would good sounds effects be fora household robot?
12:24 AM flav0r: theoretically they could be used for indicating certain settings
12:24 AM rue_: flav0r, how are you doing things like setting the time?
12:24 AM flav0r: currently from a phone via bluetooth
12:24 AM rue_: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/wallclock/p1070558.jpg
12:24 AM flav0r: i slapped together a quick and dirty app
12:24 AM rue_: I used an IR remote
12:24 AM rue_: cool
12:24 AM rue_: android or apple?
12:25 AM flav0r: ios
12:25 AM flav0r: apple
12:25 AM rue_: yea, hmm
12:25 AM rue_: what language?
12:25 AM flav0r: obj-c
12:25 AM rue_: NeutronFluxLabs, are you a wrapper for a maker-space?
12:25 AM flav0r: on another version i use in-6 tubes for colons
12:25 AM rue_: flav0r, did it take much code to do?
12:25 AM flav0r: i never had any luck with in-1 .. they just kept flickering
12:26 AM rue_: I'm not familiar with the types
12:26 AM flav0r: hmm thats subjective ... but nah not really too much to the app
12:26 AM rue_: I know there are a lot of digit ones, and some special stuff
12:26 AM flav0r: next i need to start using the VFD tubes i have
12:26 AM rue_: nopf, what do you do?
12:26 AM rue_: flav0r, I done them!
12:26 AM rue_: I drove them with 7406!
12:27 AM rue_: some fun gettign the voltage levels right
12:27 AM rue_: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/p1020746-vfd.jpg
12:27 AM rue_: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/p1020747-vfd.jpg
12:27 AM rue_: ok, that was uln2003, but I could have used the 7406
12:28 AM rue_: nos, building any robots?
12:29 AM rue_: RJ722_, you into ammature radio?
12:29 AM rue_: rue_bed, go to sleep!
12:29 AM rue_: tachikoma, japan?
12:29 AM rue_: theBear, ARE YOU ALIVE!?
12:29 AM rue_: ToAruShiroiNeko, you with tachikoma ?
12:30 AM flav0r: i need some insight later .... im gonna look to use a similar chip to the hv5530
12:30 AM flav0r: https://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/en/HV57009
12:30 AM flav0r: i think i can use something like this chip
12:30 AM rue_: the uln2803 and 7406 are REALLY cheap, and mixed with 74hc595 (also, super cheap) are requiv
12:30 AM flav0r: oh i think i have a few of those displays you pasted
12:30 AM flav0r: i also have a lot of other ones
12:31 AM rue_: its just a microwave clock
12:31 AM flav0r: oh
12:31 AM rue_: I have a collection of vcr ones
12:31 AM flav0r: i got some soviet thing that looks similar
12:31 AM rue_: basic clock :)
12:31 AM flav0r: looks the same
12:31 AM rue_: weyland|yutani, why two nicks?
12:32 AM rue_: ^O__O^, your a newb are you?
12:32 AM flav0r: i have a lot of IV-4 tubes
12:32 AM rue_: flav0r, the first time I wanted to run a vfd, there was _NO_ online docs, so I reverse engineered a vcr
12:32 AM rue_: posted all the info
12:32 AM mrdata: i do have projects going onm, yes
12:33 AM rue_: mrdata, well share!
12:33 AM flav0r: and IV-22
12:33 AM mrdata: but not robotics as suych
12:33 AM rue_: just dash-out anything top secret
12:33 AM rue_: flav0r, http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/oldsite/vfd.htm
12:34 AM mrdata: winding a high-Q inductor for a bench top thingy
12:34 AM mrdata: designing a weird magnet motor
12:34 AM rue_: :) did I put you on building a freq gen??
12:34 AM rue_: ah ok
12:34 AM rue_: mrdata, as far as that project, I gaveup/cheated
12:34 AM polprog: hey rue
12:35 AM mrdata: the active seti project
12:35 AM rue_: I have a SI5351 chip I'm using
12:35 AM rue_: polprog, hey
12:35 AM flav0r: does my head in
12:35 AM rue_: mrdata, its generating the 1-10Mhz nicely
12:35 AM flav0r: i gotta get to it tho
12:35 AM polprog: not really. still theorrtizing on my autonomous/remote control barge
12:35 AM flav0r: im sure ill bug you about it later
12:35 AM flav0r: a barge
12:35 AM flav0r: lol
12:35 AM rue_: polprog, how big a barge?
12:35 AM polprog: floating thing
12:36 AM polprog: 1 meter by 1 meter max
12:36 AM rue_: with sink/unsink ability?
12:36 AM rue_: so it can get under stuff and do lifting?
12:36 AM polprog: basically, wooden structure, some bottles for floating, and a big fan for movement
12:36 AM rue_: interesting
12:36 AM flav0r: just for context
12:36 AM flav0r: https://hackaday.io/project/46429-nixie-clock-3
12:36 AM polprog: surface only, maybe an underwater camera
12:37 AM mrdata: i'll explain the active seti thing.last year, as part of brerakthrough listen, the greenbank telescope ruled out continuous beacons from stars up to 100 ly away, above 1 GW EIRP
12:37 AM flav0r: thats the one i was refering to as the previous one
12:37 AM polprog: or an echosounder
12:37 AM mrdata: but can a hobbyist emit 1 GW EIRP?
12:37 AM flav0r: that one is hand made
12:37 AM flav0r: the one i got done routing earlier is gonna be sent out to have the boards made
12:38 AM polprog: i want to avoid propellers under water because the pond in my park is full of weeds. and the waters cold
12:38 AM polprog: :P
12:38 AM mrdata: so a collaborator has a 4 m antenna and can transmit in C band 5.75 GHz, above 12 kW he says
12:38 AM polprog: so its more like the florida swamp vehicles
12:38 AM mrdata: this almost does it
12:38 AM rue_: mrdata, huh
12:39 AM rue_: continious beacons...
12:39 AM mrdata: rue_, a 4 m dish antenna gives the needed directivity for actively transmitting a beacon
12:39 AM polprog: rue_: im also programming a demo in C
12:39 AM polprog: cpp*
12:39 AM polprog: https://youtu.be/aF5-1TX9nUs
12:40 AM polprog: rotozoomer part working ^
12:40 AM mrdata: we discussed a bunch of practicalities to get the flux density up above the noise floor
12:40 AM mrdata: one is extreme narrow band 0.1 Hz, stabilized with doppler correction
12:41 AM mrdata: this is quite difficult however
12:41 AM mrdata: 5.75 GHz with 0.1 Hz stability is a Q factor of like 60 billion
12:41 AM flav0r: is that rotozoomer done with the unreal engine ?
12:42 AM polprog: no, its my own framebuffer engine, prints the image using ascii blocks
12:42 AM mrdata: he's going with an agilent frequency generator
12:42 AM mrdata: i've been studying high Q resonant circuits
12:43 AM rue_bed: so, my bench supply was right along what you were doing
12:43 AM mrdata: your tunable oscillator is in the same category
12:43 AM mrdata: yeah
12:43 AM mrdata: knowing the issues is a good learning experience
12:43 AM rue_bed: I'm still waiting for that mixer I got
12:44 AM mrdata: so this other project,
12:44 AM mrdata: the weird motor, is a different thing altogether
12:44 AM mrdata: https://physicsworld.com/a/gravitational-constant-mystery-deepens-with-new-precision-measurements/
12:45 AM rue_bed: they dont know gravity changes?
12:45 AM mrdata: when is a gravitational constant not constant?
12:45 AM rue_bed: always
12:45 AM mrdata: answer: when it's a variable
12:46 AM mrdata: dependent on something
12:46 AM mrdata: we dont understand well
12:46 AM mrdata: i want to run experiments in that field
12:46 AM rue_bed: especially when were passing thru ripples in timespace caused by 4d vortexes
12:46 AM rue_bed: (its why your water spins down the drain)
12:46 AM mrdata: can any of those be manipulated with electromagnetism?
12:47 AM rue_bed: uuuh
12:47 AM mrdata: the science thus far tells us no
12:47 AM mrdata: but i hear some lore
12:47 AM mrdata: the narrative is basically the claim, that if you could magnetically isolate something from the universe at large, then it would have zero inertia
12:48 AM rue_bed: magnetism will affect the mass...
12:48 AM rue_bed: not the amount of it..
12:50 AM Triffid_Hunter: rue_bed: plenty, but can't tell you about 'em :P
12:50 AM rue_bed: electrostatic fields...can
12:50 AM mrdata: this entails the separation of mass from inertia
12:50 AM rue_bed: Triffid_Hunter, oh, cmon, just dash out all the top-secret details
12:52 AM mrdata: if the experiment fails to produce results, then what i will have accomplished is a pretty mobile sculpture for an art show
12:53 AM mrdata: but if it succeeds, then it becomes a test for string theory
12:53 AM mrdata: ive been wanting to do this for some time
12:54 AM rue_bed: I presume in those experiments they neutralized any electrostatic factors
12:54 AM mrdata: i have no idea
12:54 AM rue_bed: really carefully, cause the voltage between two objects will change with their proximity
12:55 AM mrdata: the info in this link comes from china and i'm sure will be criticized on that basis alone
12:55 AM mrdata: but the apparatus seems well enough described
12:55 AM rue_bed: its quite plausable
12:56 AM Triffid_Hunter: rue_bed: magnetism is a side effect of the interaction of electric charges with relativity :P
12:57 AM rue_bed: hmm, I'll need to think about some things for a bit
12:57 AM rue_bed: wonder if I can get processor time to do it
12:57 AM * rue_bed is suppposed to be asleep
01:01 AM joga: rue_bed, nah
01:02 AM flav0r: sleep is for the weak
01:11 AM mrdata: Triffid_Hunter, this relativity angle is encouraging
01:15 AM flav0r: arrrgh why do i need to make so many parts in eagle!
01:16 AM flav0r: ok you keen eyed people
01:16 AM flav0r: are these things the same
01:16 AM flav0r: https://www.ebay.com/itm/50Pcs-Micro-USB-B-Female-5-Pin-SMT-SMD-Socket-Connector-DIY-/172237701236
01:17 AM flav0r: actually on second thought
01:17 AM flav0r: they arent
01:17 AM flav0r: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Micro-USB-Type-B-Female-Port-5-Pins-180-Degree-SMD-SMT-Soldering-PCB-mount/32735680775.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dj1DIB1
01:18 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: because eagle's library is crusty and ancient.. luckily it only takes a few minutes to spit out a new part ;0
01:18 AM flav0r: well yeah ... its pretty simple
01:18 AM flav0r: just throws a wrench into the gears whilst working
01:19 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: funny thing is, there's tons of eagle libraries on the 'net but so many of them are subtly wrong that they're not worth using, verifying someone else's library part takes just as long as making your own from scratch
01:20 AM flav0r: ilol yeah ive encountered that before
01:20 AM flav0r: i remember once i made a part for an IN12 nixie tube
01:20 AM Triffid_Hunter: I forget if it was sparkfun or adafruit's atmega328 library, their QFN footprint doesn't have a thermal pad but the chip does :/
01:21 AM flav0r: there was a version floating around online that i looked at and thought .. hmm .. thats reversed and back to front
01:21 AM flav0r: sure enough later i saw many peoplke online had used it
01:21 AM flav0r: only to comment on the problem
01:21 AM flav0r: hahaha
01:21 AM mrdata: flav0r, you always have to build footprints for your parts
01:21 AM mrdata: whether in eagle or elsewhere
01:21 AM flav0r: yeha man ive made a lot
01:21 AM Triffid_Hunter: altium has a wizard for footprints, but it can't do DFN
01:21 AM flav0r: just ranting about it coz i gotta make one for that usb connector
01:22 AM mrdata: it's just a routine part of layout
01:22 AM flav0r: i guess i should just cut the long story short and actually find the parts that i have
01:22 AM flav0r: and masure it !
01:22 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: heh micro USBs are fun, so many subtly different variants.. some are full SMT, some have metal mechanical pegs, some have plastic ones
01:22 AM flav0r: instead of looking at pics online and wondering if they are the same
01:22 AM flav0r: lol
01:22 AM mrdata: measuring the real part helps; but the data sheet tells you tolerances and you really should know those
01:22 AM flav0r: yeah im just gonna find the ones i have
01:23 AM flav0r: ah for this its not so bad ... 5 legs and 2 anchor points
01:23 AM mrdata: in case two parts from different batches are slightly different
01:24 AM flav0r: wow .. found them
01:26 AM flav0r: looks big in the pictures
01:27 AM flav0r: haha
01:27 AM rue_bed: china does a good job of that
01:29 AM flav0r: hmmm
01:29 AM flav0r: interestingly it seems to more or less match an existing package i have
01:29 AM flav0r: that will do for now !
02:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: rue_, I've been doing a little on the joystick panel recently.
02:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: moving it to interrupts, button debouncing. Gonna do button up finding & sequence detection soon
02:45 AM polprog: do you debounce in hw or sw?
02:46 AM Jak_o_Shadows: sw here
02:52 AM flav0r: whats it for jak ?
02:52 AM flav0r: some sorta arcade thing?
02:54 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Some sorta arcade thing
02:54 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Erm, I have 4 DOF in joysticks, anther 4 in sliders, and 5 pots. + buttons
02:55 AM Jak_o_Shadows: The pots are meant to like, trim it
02:55 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I did assemble some hardware to trim, but it's a tad simpler in software really
03:09 AM Jak_o_Shadows: If i were making PCB's, i'd do it in hardware though I think.
03:18 AM flav0r: ive been looking at making some sorta arcade thing
03:18 AM flav0r: saw a pretty straight forward INSTRUCTABLE
04:07 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It's not terribly hard tbh
04:13 AM flav0r: christ .... i wanted to add some usb to uart stuff to this board
04:13 AM flav0r: so i can power from usb and program the device
04:14 AM flav0r: it adds SEVENTEEN components !
04:24 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: I usually just put a 3-4 pin header and use an external ftdi
04:26 AM flav0r: yah me too
04:26 AM flav0r: this is for when i make some stuff that will end up in the hands of other people
04:27 AM flav0r: that are kinda "new"
04:27 AM flav0r: so this sort of approach could be handy in some situations
04:27 AM flav0r: figured i might as well do it and test things out
04:28 AM flav0r: using the good old CH340 !
04:29 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: haha and then you have the 'fun' of teaching them how to install random chinese drivers into their windows :P
04:29 AM flav0r: lol yeah
04:33 AM Jak_o_Shadows: ch340 works mostly I think
04:33 AM Jak_o_Shadows: the PL2303 doesn't for me
04:34 AM Jak_o_Shadows: tbh, I don't get why you need drivers
04:34 AM Jak_o_Shadows: usb-> serial is a usb thing
04:35 AM flav0r: yah
04:35 AM flav0r: my other choice was cp2102 but those cost a bit more
04:36 AM jadew: rue_, I assume that was a typo, since we haven't spoken in 4 years+, but no, I don't build robots
04:36 AM jadew: I might start at some point tho
04:37 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: well there is the CDC ACM standard, but FTDI and PL2303 and possibly CH340 don't actually use it
04:38 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: tons of microcontrollers with native USB use CDC ACM, and it's incredibly stupid that windows requires a *signed* magic text file that tells it to use the driver that's provided with the operating system for those devices, even things like USBHID and USBMSD work fine without that
04:38 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Wait, you need a driver for CDC ACM?
04:38 AM Jak_o_Shadows: That's beyond dumb, I agree
04:39 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: well sort of, sort of not.. windows comes with one, but won't use it unless you tell it to
04:39 AM Triffid_Hunter: same with USB ECM/EEM (standardised usb ethernet)
04:40 AM flav0r: oh someone asked before what stuff i was working on
04:40 AM flav0r: i modded a wii balance board
04:41 AM flav0r: a couple weeks back
04:41 AM flav0r: its for use by multiple people ... currently i use rfid scanner to determine who is being weighed
04:42 AM flav0r: then it just publishes the data to somewhere i set up[ to graph the data
04:42 AM flav0r: works ok
04:43 AM Jak_o_Shadows: ehh. I feel like that's an acceptable thing to prompt you for
04:44 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Through USB CDC ACM is something I should setup with the joystick.
04:44 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It can do both, so it should
04:44 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: wouldn't you want USB HID with a joystick?
04:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Yeah, but I can do both.
04:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: the USB HID i have 100% working
04:45 AM Triffid_Hunter: may as well add a DFU node while you're at it :P
04:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: But I could use the uart to tell it to flash lights, store trim values, etc.
04:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
04:45 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Yeah, but DFU is a bunch more code to write
04:46 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: heh like https://github.com/triffid/LPC17xx-DFU-Bootloader ? :P
04:47 AM Jak_o_Shadows: oooh, SD card
04:47 AM Jak_o_Shadows: that'd be a nice thing to have
04:49 AM flav0r: https://imgur.com/a/3YUJFdc
04:49 AM flav0r: incase you dudes like to look at silly shit
04:49 AM flav0r: first 2 pics are with the original nintendo circuit board still in
04:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Does it sue the little square loadcells, or the bar ones?
04:50 AM Triffid_Hunter: flav0r: neat, now make a phone app and sell it to silicon valley for a bajillion dollars
04:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: looks like the square
04:51 AM flav0r: i already made an app so i could see the data in real time !
04:51 AM flav0r: haha
04:51 AM flav0r: hmm i think its bar shaped ones
04:55 AM flav0r: screen grabs of app
04:55 AM flav0r: https://imgur.com/a/1KeSfD3
06:44 AM Luminax: huh? someone called ?
06:44 AM Luminax: oh it's rue_
06:44 AM Luminax: rue_: robotics is a hobby and.... I guess 'work' for me? although at my new work there's probably still not enough angle to bring on the robotics
06:44 AM Luminax: I just love everything electronics and mechanical
06:49 AM tangarora: is this a channel for RPA or physical robots?
07:03 AM flav0r: MAKE AN ANGLE DUDE !
07:12 AM Jak_o_Shadows: RPA?
07:12 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Also, some ebay guy sent me 4x of this sort of thing: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/1pc-CAREUD-Sensor-NF-Wireless-TPMS-Internal-Sensor-with-Replaceable-Battery-Tire-Pressure-Monitoring-System-Sensors/1197549_32822525321.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.15.180576e3vZYuUC&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,

07:13 AM Jak_o_Shadows: was meant to be usb cables
07:20 AM flav0r: nice
07:20 AM flav0r: sell them
07:20 AM flav0r: then buy some cables
07:20 AM flav0r: speakign of aliexpress
07:21 AM flav0r: im so close to another milstone with total orders from those guys !
07:24 AM ^O__O^: no im durrf
07:24 AM flav0r: youre a what
07:33 AM krunk: rue_ kinda
07:34 AM krunk: I do general embedded work, data collections systems and automation work
07:38 AM flav0r: krunk where in the world are you at approximately ?
07:38 AM krunk: South West Michigan USA
08:11 AM Luminax: RPA ?
08:12 AM Luminax: ugh...
08:12 AM Luminax: another one of those 'business intelligence thingamajigga'
09:17 AM rue_: jadew, what kinda robots could you see yourself building?
09:17 AM rue_: Luminax, well what kinda things have ya worked on?
09:17 AM rue_: tangarora, physical ones typically
09:17 AM rue_: flav0r, heh, by milestone do you mean their buyer rating system?
09:17 AM rue_: ^O__O^, durrf?
09:17 AM rue_: arg, are they just rebooting freenode every night now?
09:23 AM ^O__O^: yep
09:25 AM rue_: Droid Underloard of Robotic Residential Foundation?
09:26 AM rue_: or Droid Underloard of Residential Robotics Foundation?
09:26 AM Luminax: rue_: oh hey, I usually chat in the other channel :3 nothing much, just roaming robots and some arm stuffs
09:27 AM Luminax: though the arm stuffs is kinda unfinished... still trying to find a good cheap small 'muscle'
09:27 AM rue_: I do those too, what are the arms like?
09:27 AM rue_: I gave up and used servos for a 'series'
09:28 AM Luminax: it's like those desktop thingies but I wanted to try using the mc... mckibben ? air muscles
09:28 AM rue_: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm10/slide.htm
09:28 AM rue_: the trick with air muscles is the control
09:28 AM rue_: valve central makes for a large bot
09:28 AM Luminax: ay
09:29 AM rue_: also check out arms 7 8 and 9
09:29 AM Luminax: a friend of mine from Japan got a sample of those tiny strand fiber air tube thingie
09:29 AM Luminax: I'm trying to get him to ship me some >_>
09:29 AM rue_: ? I'm not familiar with them
09:29 AM rue_: have a link?
09:29 AM Luminax: ah.... no, it's on my laptop
09:29 AM Luminax: and my laptop's dead :|
09:30 AM rue_: huh
09:31 AM rue_: is that arm anythng like what you up to?
09:31 AM Luminax: ah
09:31 AM Luminax: https://www.titech.ac.jp/news/2016/035222.html
09:32 AM Luminax: rue_: sort of
09:32 AM rue_: ah its just small
09:32 AM Luminax: yeah, but I heard the strand's quite strong
09:33 AM Luminax: haven't had the chance to work on robotics for a while now though :| new job with new gameplan
09:33 AM rue_: all air muscles are strong
09:34 AM rue_: what doesn't add up is the size
09:34 AM rue_: air muscles aren't efficient if their long
09:34 AM Luminax: true
09:34 AM Luminax: maybe if you distribute it like this it'll be better with distance?
09:34 AM Luminax: I'd need to get a sample to test maybe... someday soon
09:36 AM Luminax: maybe after I finish my current project I can get my boss to get on board studying the stereoscopic camera and image processing
09:41 AM tangarora: RPA is robotic process automation... so a macro engine + orchestrator + some machine learning for OCR and stuff. Basically if there are repetitive things people fo on a PC, they are now automated.
09:42 AM Luminax: simple thing made to sound complicated...
09:42 AM tangarora: So basically office admin stuff... 22% of all office labor is a waste in Sweden and about 38% of all time spent in an office in the US...
09:42 AM Luminax: like 'system architect'
09:43 AM tangarora: and UI Path etc.
09:44 AM tangarora: I work with this, why I was asking...
10:18 AM bostonmacosx: morning
10:18 AM bostonmacosx: have some basic questions about the ESP8266/32 if anyone is familiar with those boards
10:24 AM ^O__O^: i know/have used esp8266s a couple times
10:24 AM ^O__O^: im not an expert but i might be able to at least direct you in the right direction maybe
10:28 AM bostonmacosx: ^O__O^: thanks
10:30 AM bostonmacosx: ^O__O^: was just wondering about how to change settiings remotely...so like connecte via bluetooth and set the wifi password etc etc or other "variiable" on the device needed for the program runninig
10:31 AM ^O__O^: the stuff i have done with it always required me to configure the network beforehand
10:32 AM ^O__O^: im sure theres a way to have it search but that will be coded in
10:33 AM bostonmacosx: and is there way to store things beween "reboots"
12:17 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest3272
02:34 PM flav0r: rue yes their buyer rating
02:34 PM flav0r: purely for the number of total orders
04:55 PM _unreal_: sweet an other part arrived in the mail
04:55 PM _unreal_: just got my pcb/dual usb to breakout adapter
04:57 PM _unreal_: Its function..... to be the power supply for my tinker board/LCD because they both take a USB psu
06:01 PM _unreal_: I'm going to use Opinion question. When I build the enclosure for my tinkerboard/lcd monitor. I'm going to have a SINGLE umbilical to connect the HEAD unit with the display/computer to the motor/power box with a parallel port cable. (NOT PRINTER PORT JUST THE CABLE FOR SIGNAL) The cable will be carrying the Step/dir and enable signals etc.. the steppers and router and other things.I need to power the displa/computer with 5v.
06:01 PM _unreal_: Should I run DC 12V and put a bec 5v converter in the head unit. or should I run 5v in the line. the cable is 8' long
06:10 PM z64555: what is the gauge of the conductors in the cable, and what is the expected amperage at 5V
06:11 PM z64555: i don't remember the specs off the top of my head, but thicker cables for beefier amps is the general rule
06:13 PM z64555: a higher voltage will allow you to run fewer amps through the cable for the same amount of power transfer, although DC isn't ideally suited for this, even with the 5v bec
06:14 PM z64555: running 12v through the cable also gives you the option of running higher voltage devices in the future, should you decide to
06:18 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
06:23 PM _unreal_: z64555, its a printer cable so I have no ideA
06:23 PM z64555: serial connectors or USB
06:23 PM _unreal_: nether.... pulse train
06:24 PM _unreal_: for driving stepper motor controllers and switching relays. for a cnc machine I'm building
06:24 PM _unreal_: ##electronics suggested 12v.
06:27 PM z64555: yep, sounds reasonable
09:54 PM rue_: flav0r, I got the highest rating just a bit ago
10:48 PM rue_: mrdata, my NE612 arrived, and the mixer transformers
10:48 PM rue_: hah
11:52 PM flav0r: shit
11:52 PM flav0r: what rating you got ?
11:59 PM rue_: rationg?
11:59 PM rue_: oh on ali?
