10:05 AM z64555: afaik, the messages in IRC just contain the message in ascii, with only a little bit of overhead
10:06 AM z64555: text messages from SMS and MMS use a simple encryption, which pages the text. You "character limit" is actually the max number of characters allowed on a page. If you don't use up the whole page, the remaining bytes are null

11:51 AM rue_mohr: so, the state machine I need is a little too big, but what I'v realized is that its too big as a machine based on the power of 2, if I make it a 'compressed' machine, I can fit what I need quite easily at the cost of just a bit of setup time
