10:43 AM rue_bed: it is possable to get a tsoc coupler?
10:47 AM rue_bed: toslink
10:47 AM rue_bed: yes
10:59 AM rue_bed: cant find toslink modules on aliexpress tho
10:59 AM rue_bed: need a bunch of sets for the robot
11:07 AM SpeedEvil: Why?
12:53 PM rue_shop3: well, I plan to use toslink hardware from the primary controller to the servo boards, reduce electrical noises
12:54 PM rue_shop3: and with the gyro ring set, I need to use optical data links cause I'm going thru the middle of the pins, and will use an air-gap optical data link
02:41 PM veverak: :)
02:41 PM veverak: rue_shop3: what do you use for the optical link?
02:54 PM rue_mohr: across the bearing?
02:55 PM rue_mohr: everything is toslink hardware
02:55 PM rue_mohr: as planned so far
02:56 PM rue_mohr: ebay likes to ask if I'm still looking for things
02:57 PM rue_mohr: "are you still looking for $search params"
02:57 PM veverak: ah
02:57 PM * veverak finally googled for what toslink is
02:57 PM veverak: :)
02:57 PM rue_mohr: so I filled them with "proper customer support"
02:57 PM rue_mohr: and I'm waiting for them to ask if I'm still looking for it
02:58 PM rue_mohr: /with/with things like/
04:55 PM achiestdragonn is now known as AchiestDragon
08:18 PM z64556 is now known as z64555
08:46 PM Casper: hi there, I lost the link I had... but what is a good square tube / round tube (steel) calculator for deflection provided that each ends is fixed and with a center load?
08:56 PM zhanx: Casper: you talking this one? http://metalgeek.com/static/deflection.php
08:56 PM zhanx: its a quick one I use on mobile
08:57 PM Casper: wasn'T that one, but did the trick! thanks
08:57 PM Casper: do you have one for round tubing?
08:57 PM zhanx: that was tubing
08:57 PM zhanx: wait
08:58 PM zhanx: I know what you mena
08:58 PM Casper: aka "pipe"
08:58 PM zhanx: https://www.easycalculation.com/engineering/mechanical/hollow-square-tube-deflection.php
08:58 PM Casper: round would look better, but more or a pita to weld
08:58 PM zhanx: wait wrong link
08:59 PM zhanx: actually that is all i have
08:59 PM Casper: look ok
09:00 PM Casper: I just need to figure out what I can get in thickness
09:00 PM zhanx: i tend not use use square tubing must be why
09:00 PM Casper: is round more rigid than square?
09:01 PM zhanx: well its better on the load mainly
09:01 PM Casper: hmm Deflection: 3.420104039051455e-19 <=== heee what?
09:02 PM zhanx: this cold is killing me
09:03 PM Casper: yes it is
09:03 PM Casper: now, will it kill you? or will you kill it?
09:03 PM Casper: only time will tell!
09:03 PM zhanx: stomach bug
09:04 PM zhanx: so it might be an alien baby
09:07 PM Casper: I'm planning to make a kid climbing module... you know, the kind with a kind of ladder on top...
09:08 PM zhanx: fun
09:08 PM Casper: 8' long, let's say 500lbs at the center, think a single 2" square or round is enought?
09:08 PM zhanx: pool noodles and zip ties
09:09 PM zhanx: oh the monkey bars as a kid
09:09 PM Casper: https://www.actionplayandleisure.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/horizontal-ladder-monkey-bar.jpg <=== like that
09:09 PM Casper: monkey bars? oh? that's the name?
09:09 PM Casper: yess! thanks for the name!
09:09 PM zhanx: 2" 1/4" wall tubing
09:10 PM zhanx: 1", 1/4" wall center bars is the standard for ages like 12 and up
09:10 PM zhanx: under use a smaller center bars for hand size
09:10 PM zhanx: i got kids
09:11 PM Casper: I was aiming for 3/4" bars, but that for now is unimportant, I'm wondering about the sides... debating between wood (and get issue with it wanting to collapse in all directions unless braces are used) or go steel
09:11 PM Casper: steel would be fun, I could use my welder mouAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D
09:11 PM zhanx: well you can go 4x4 posts on the outside
09:14 PM zhanx: Casper: you could also use it as an excuse to learn to thread pipe
09:14 PM Casper: threading wouln't be usefull in that
09:15 PM zhanx: it would make the bars roll
09:15 PM Casper: if I go with round tubing, the challenge is to do 45° cuts at the ends
09:15 PM zhanx: Ninja Warrior style
09:15 PM Casper: if I go square it would actually be a non-issue, square cut and fill
09:16 PM zhanx: I know all the monkey bars on the Nasty Nick rolled freely. it was fun
09:16 PM zhanx: Casper: if you are going to do round bars, look at how the make roll cages
09:27 PM Tom_L: the idea there is what can little hands grip better? the answer is round bar
09:29 PM Tom_L: the one at the old elementary here was probably 2-1/2" pipe fitted with elbows for the frame and welded cross bars
09:48 PM Casper: Tom_L: the bars itself will be round 3/4", I'm more worried about the structure
10:02 PM Tom_L: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/N92s3maYYYw/maxresdefault.jpg
10:02 PM Tom_L: 2-1/2" pipe with welded cross bars
10:03 PM Tom_L: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/5c/96/94/5c96949f248a3396d1c68954e7947541--sport-girl-old-photos.jpg
10:03 PM Tom_L: :)
10:03 PM Tom_L: old wood one
10:13 PM Casper: steel pipes is gone now for plumbing, specialised now... and wood isn't as good as it was back then :D
10:13 PM Casper: however it does look to be 2x6
11:07 PM rue_mohr: you cant use steel for water, it'll always be black
11:10 PM Casper: now it's all ABS and copper or pex, no more anything else
11:15 PM rue_mohr: good show
