01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: SNOW
01:02 AM rue_shop4: !!!!!!
01:03 AM rue_shop4: got one of the anti-collision red strobes for the mecha done-ish
01:03 AM rue_shop4: nice little strobe light
01:30 AM AchiestDragon: arrgggg ,, can get the arduinos to respond to inputs over serial in the arduino ide serial console, but they wont respond to them from python , although the python script does display status messages from the arduino
01:31 AM rue_shop3: you used 115200 baud didn't you?
01:31 AM AchiestDragon: no , 9600
01:31 AM rue_shop3: hmm, that blows my ideas
01:31 AM rue_shop3: how long are the messages from the python program
01:32 AM rue_shop3: ~5 characters?
01:32 AM AchiestDragon: 3 charicters , ie a "#9/n"
01:32 AM rue_shop3: hmm
01:33 AM rue_shop3: sounds like its time to make a serial loopback
01:33 AM rue_shop3: I had an awefull time with python serial when I did my NC spooler program
01:34 AM rue_shop3: oh geez, of course
01:35 AM rue_shop3: I can use the airhockey table at the arena to test my 2d thruster
01:35 AM AchiestDragon: mmmm ,,, and im doing it multithreaded reciving over 4 ports concurrently and transmittiong to them eather individualy or concurrently
02:38 AM AchiestDragon: well helps when i send chr(10) to end line rather than chr(13)
02:53 AM Triffid_Hunter: AchiestDragon: lol, who uses 13 anymore? ancient versions of macos used that :P windows uses 13,10 still though for some reason
03:05 AM mrdata: the whole concept of carriage return seems baroque
03:08 AM * mrdata suggests appropriate clips from the films Brazil and Naked Lunch
03:13 AM AchiestDragon: lol yea ancient i guess like me
03:15 AM AchiestDragon: well its working now and , almost finished sorting the serial routing code and buffer code
03:44 AM AchiestDragon: it was 13 ,10 cr/lf on vt52
03:46 AM AchiestDragon: most micros i did programming on in z80 code like the nascom 1 just used cr
11:14 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
11:36 AM udi: lol
12:56 PM rue_: so
12:58 PM rue_: a small APC UPS uses a 3524 pwm chip for generating the 'modified sine', by shorting pins 13,14 and 11,12 you can have the fets just lock on during a power outage, so with that, and removing the transformer and output plug, you have an emergency light controller, just hook the lights up between the connections for the centertap and one side of the transformer
12:58 PM rue_: "Uses for a 280VA modified sine (square wave) APC UPS"
01:16 PM rue_: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2750463 MAKE ME ONE OF THOSE!!!!
02:24 PM SpeedEvil: :)
03:12 PM rue_: 6 hours runtime on my UPS last night, ouch
03:13 PM rue_: that'll work the batteries
03:19 PM AchiestDragon: you get a lot of power outages then ?
03:20 PM rue_: why else would I have a ups that can take 10 hours of power outage?
03:24 PM tttb3 is now known as tttb
03:26 PM AchiestDragon: the town i live in has a factory that needs a 24/7 360 day a year supply for a furnace (loss of power = ceramic furnace liners need replaceing ) , so we benifit from a dual grid source feed with 0 dropouts and auto switch if one fails
03:30 PM orlock: ahh, one of those "gets turned on once and turned off once" deals?
03:30 PM AchiestDragon: yea sweet
03:32 PM AchiestDragon: its for wood drying , factory makes plywood chipboard and mdf , and there place is about as big as the rest of the town
03:52 PM polprog: reminds me of the reactors russians used in their nuclear submarines
03:52 PM polprog: cooled with liquid Sodium IIRC
03:53 PM polprog: or another metal
04:30 PM AchiestDragon: when i was at collage ,long long ago , i remeber the lecturer saying that "the average amount of code a programmer writes per day is only 3 " ,,,, so time for another coffee i guess
04:30 PM polprog: night
04:31 PM AchiestDragon: 3 lines
04:33 PM rue_: WTF
04:33 PM rue_: the ups turned off on that last power bump, it was like 5 seconds
04:34 PM rue_: AFTER 6 HOURS OF RUNNING FINE
04:35 PM AchiestDragon: do you have a stream or river you could use to generate your own power
04:42 PM rue_: no
04:42 PM rue_: the ups shouldn't have cut out, it had just run for 6 hours with no problems
04:50 PM rue_: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2798705
04:50 PM rue_: I'm I just wasting my time posting all this on the internet?
04:51 PM rue_: can anyone even understand this stuff???
04:52 PM Tom_L: you didn't watch enough tv
04:53 PM rue_: dont have it
04:53 PM rue_: I suppose a good set of instructions would have mentioned drinking pop too
04:53 PM rue_: its not a good hack session without chips AND pop
04:54 PM veverak: hmm
04:54 PM veverak: taking 23:53 train to go home
04:55 PM veverak: well, students life I suppose
04:55 PM rue_: last train to Clarksville?
04:55 PM veverak: Prague -> Brno
04:55 PM veverak: 2h3min
05:57 PM rue_: I'm getting REALLY tired of turning that shop computer back on
05:58 PM rue_: 1min, 12 sec outage
05:58 PM rue_: GRRRRR
06:02 PM veverak: :D
06:50 PM rue_: ok I'm gonna sit and be stunned for a while
06:50 PM rue_: or mabe I'm just calling asleep
06:50 PM rue_: f
08:02 PM rue_: Triffid_Hunter, can you read chineese?
08:06 PM Tom_L: wormfood can
08:07 PM Tom_L: ck your channel btw
08:33 PM rue_shop3: ok, so I turned this computer on again
08:34 PM rue_shop3: I expect the power to go out in about 5 minutes
08:35 PM Tom_L: you got bad weather up there?
08:35 PM rue_shop3: we had 4" of snow last night
08:36 PM rue_shop3: pulled everything off the trees into the power lines
08:36 PM Tom_L: hmm, haven't seen much of that here
08:36 PM rue_shop3: power was out (only) 6 hours total
08:36 PM rue_shop3: lots of on and off as things keep breaking loose tho
08:38 PM rue_shop3: I'm confused as to why the ~1.5 min power wink took down my main computer
08:38 PM rue_shop3: the ups was charged
08:38 PM rue_shop3: and it'd just run the computer for 6 hours
08:38 PM rue_shop3: but the internet UPS needs help
08:38 PM rue_shop3: it died a bit early
08:42 PM rue_shop3: but the jukebox ran for almost an hour
08:56 PM rue_shop3: ok, newer battery for that ups, the old one was on the steep part of the downward slope
