01:29 AM rue_shop4: RifRaf, !
01:32 AM RifRaf: hello, rue
01:33 AM rue_shop4: high!
01:33 AM rue_shop4: what are you doing for work now? making rockets yet?
01:33 AM rue_shop4: cnc machines? 3d printers?
01:34 AM RifRaf: nono, office job, not so thrilling
01:34 AM rue_shop4: Tom_L, made a new cnc
01:34 AM RifRaf: but still doing cnc stuff on top
01:34 AM rue_shop4: office job!? programming an ai?
01:34 AM RifRaf: nice, never got mine made yet
01:34 AM rue_shop4: ;)
01:35 AM rue_shop4: he madea a doozy of one
01:35 AM rue_shop4: suppers burning, brb
01:35 AM RifRaf: cool, got a link to check out?
01:35 AM rue_shop4: trying to recall
01:35 AM rue_shop4: oh
01:35 AM rue_shop4: zlog
01:36 AM rue_shop4: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Chip_Guard2.jpg
01:36 AM rue_shop4: hunt the dir
01:36 AM rue_shop4: he threw on the spindle from his sherline
01:38 AM rue_shop3: I dont know if you saw my new machine
01:39 AM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc4/p1090553.jpg
01:39 AM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/projects/cnc4/slide.htm
01:39 AM rue_shop3: slideshow if you want
01:47 AM RifRaf: they are both very impressive, toms looks pretty well finished and ready to mill
01:49 AM rue_shop3: mine got more busy than finished
01:49 AM rue_shop3: I need to move the uprights back 2" to get the rest of the table back
01:49 AM rue_shop3: I'd only tacked them, so its ok
01:49 AM rue_shop3: my spindle can do 12k
01:50 AM rue_shop3: used an opto interrupter for feedback and regulation
01:50 AM rue_shop3: tiny13 doing the loop control
01:51 AM rue_shop3: so, do you stil have a 3d printer?
02:18 AM rue_shop4: RifRaf, I did 8 bit fft on an m328
02:18 AM rue_shop4: integer
02:36 AM Jak_o_Shadows: bloody hell rif, you're online!
03:33 AM jandor: hi
03:33 AM jandor: anybody still using pgp here?
03:57 AM rue_shop3: signed messages?
04:09 AM rue_shop4: maybe I should spend my time waiting for 3d printers, making more 3d printers
04:14 AM Jak_o_Shadows: have you ever tried out different filaments rue?
04:14 AM rue_shop4: yea, I tried some ABS
04:14 AM rue_shop4: but I dont have a heated bed
04:15 AM rue_shop4: so that didn't go well
04:15 AM rue_shop4: it came out really weak
04:23 AM veverak: hated bed is must for abs
04:23 AM veverak: rue_shop4: how many printers do you have?
04:39 AM rue_shop3: 2
04:39 AM rue_shop3: I have a problem, there are stepper motors in my way
04:40 AM rue_shop3: 4 crates of them
04:40 AM rue_shop3: :/
05:03 AM rue_shop3: arg, its only 3am and I"m getting tired again
05:04 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It's bloody 10pm and i'm getting tired
05:24 AM rue_: ok I put the parts for the 3dprinter on the table
05:24 AM rue_: having problems proceeding
05:24 AM rue_: the what goes in the which?
05:25 AM rue_: think I need sleep
05:25 AM rue_: oh no, no, just a nap
05:25 AM rue_: thats it
05:25 AM rue_: a nap
07:45 AM durrf2: assembling the 3d printer is my favourite part
07:46 AM durrf2: the printing part is great too but theres just something special about putting something like that together
07:56 AM SpeedEvil: Assembling the 3d printer is something you can definitively say can be done concretely.
07:56 AM SpeedEvil: Actually using it is a never-ending 'that sort of works, I'll live with it' all too often
07:59 AM durrf2: depends on the kit, i have 3 printers with varying levels of work needed to get them working right
11:06 AM mumptai_ is now known as mumptai
12:03 PM rue_bed: one kit and I'm designing my own now
12:04 PM rue_bed: try to fix all the problems
12:04 PM rue_bed: I havesome geared steppers, I think I'm gonna use them with belt drive for z, no more leadscrew wobble

06:19 PM rue_shop3: wtf
06:20 PM rue_shop3: not helping
06:20 PM Tom_L: u did that
06:36 PM orlock: i made thefront and rear covers for my printer enclosure yesterday, yay
06:36 PM orlock: and by "made" i mean i grabbed some scrap sheetmetal from the work bin and cut it to size with a grinder
06:36 PM orlock: freestyle
06:36 PM orlock: its good 2mm thick steel, coated
06:44 PM rue_: I cant find the rod clamps I used
06:44 PM rue_: I'm exhausted
08:12 PM rue_shop3: ok, the idea of making a 3d printer while I wait for 3d printers to become available worked untill the 3d printer I was making needed 3d printed parts
08:12 PM rue_shop3: :/
08:12 PM Tom_L: all but the corner is programmed
08:12 PM rue_shop3: 2 hrs left
08:13 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, is it putting up a fight?
08:13 PM rue_shop3: how many bits you at?
08:13 PM Tom_L: no
08:13 PM Tom_L: 1
08:13 PM Tom_L: and a spot drill for the holes
08:13 PM Tom_L: 3 in all
08:13 PM Tom_L: with the ballnose
08:14 PM rue_shop3: I'm really curious to know if its feasable
08:15 PM Tom_L: calculated cycle time: 17.82 min
08:15 PM Tom_L: why the hell wouldn't it be?
08:15 PM Tom_L: i don't program failure
08:15 PM Tom_L: just gotta define the surfaces for the radius now
08:16 PM Tom_L: then add a cutter to them
08:16 PM Tom_L: i just haven't done it in a while so it may take some head scratching
08:17 PM Tom_L: and i might re'order the cuts before i'm done
08:17 PM Tom_L: i'm just getting them all in there right now
08:17 PM rue_shop3: well, there is a difference in material cost, it needs atleast a midgrade machine (such as yours) and there would be shipping
08:18 PM rue_shop3: the hole in the top, you could just pilot it, I'm going to run a ...
08:18 PM rue_shop3: M...
08:18 PM Tom_L: i need the hole sizes for the other 2 also
08:18 PM rue_shop3: M4 "woodscrew" from the top of the tube thru
08:19 PM rue_shop3: so, if you want, make the new hole 4mm,
08:19 PM Tom_L: no countersink necessary?
08:19 PM rue_shop3: no, it'll be from the outside of the tube above
08:19 PM Tom_L: ok
08:19 PM rue_shop3: The origional design used to have a screw there, but it was never installed on any of them, so we dropped it
08:20 PM rue_shop3: the chain link side is #28 the latch side is 3/32
08:21 PM rue_shop3: latch is the long side
08:21 PM Tom_L: big hole is 28
08:21 PM Tom_L: little hole is 3/32
08:22 PM Tom_L: other hole is m4 woodscrew size
08:22 PM rue_shop3: 4mm
08:22 PM rue_shop3: yup
08:22 PM rue_shop3: they CAN be pilots and we just hand drill them to size
08:23 PM rue_shop3: less work unless you have a machine with a tool changer
08:24 PM Tom_L: me
09:07 PM * theBear ain't a pilot, but he IS a veteran space-cadet !
09:08 PM Tom_L: theBear you are a wanted man
09:09 PM Tom_L: rue_ has been wondering where you were
09:44 PM rue_: theBear, welcome back
09:45 PM rue_: you at all into designing more 3d things?
09:47 PM Tom_L: ok
09:47 PM Tom_L: unless when i cut it something is off, i've got it all programmed i think
09:48 PM Tom_L: wanna see the mess?
09:48 PM rue_: sure!
09:48 PM rue_: :)
09:48 PM rue_: how long did programming it take?
09:49 PM Tom_L: a bit
09:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/A9e_cutterpaths.jpg
09:50 PM Tom_L: i need to order a couple differently i think but that's not a big deal
09:51 PM Tom_L: lemme get a better pic
09:52 PM Tom_L: ok
09:52 PM Tom_L: i'm not entirely sure about the radius on the front edge where the can cutout is
09:53 PM Tom_L: blue path
09:54 PM Tom_L: i could youtube it if you want some entertainment
09:57 PM orlock: tom-itx.no-ip.biz refused to connect.
09:57 PM orlock: Aww.
10:03 PM rue_: Tom_L, wow
10:03 PM Tom_L: gonna upload the path to utube
10:03 PM rue_: k
10:04 PM rue_: taking off 1/8" at a time!
10:04 PM rue_: bzzzz!
10:05 PM Tom_L: no
10:05 PM Tom_L: it's only 1/4" thick part
10:06 PM Tom_L: 5min to upload
10:08 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna cut out the rectangle first to put a bolt there to hold it in place
10:09 PM Tom_L: hope i've got clearance for one
10:09 PM Tom_L: i do until i do the radius on the edges
10:11 PM rue_: we just leave tabs and cut them off after
10:17 PM Tom_L: i think after i do the radius, i'll put the screw back in the slot and do a final depth profile cut
10:32 PM rue_: seems like a lot of handling
10:33 PM rue_: its 8:32, do I try to wake up or got o sleep?
10:34 PM orlock: am orpm?
10:51 PM rue_shop3: pm
11:01 PM rue_: my suggsetion, if building a automated production machine, is to always build in an accessory power jack for things like lights
11:56 PM rue_: so, one machine had 6 hours to go, one was started on a 16 hr job, one was started on a 3 hr job, and the other had about half an hour left
11:57 PM rue_: so... I could probably go get that other one going again
11:57 PM rue_: OR not...
