12:14 AM rue_: at some point there is going to be a problem where there aren't enough people advertizing to pay for the internet
12:17 AM rue_: and all the fake content will go away
12:18 AM rue_: wtf, china prices went way up
12:20 AM rue_: maybe I'm seeign price fixing
12:21 AM Triffid_Hunter: rue_: chinese new year is starting, whole country shuts down until basically march
12:21 AM rue_: oooh no
12:21 AM rue_: I forgot
12:21 AM rue_: when is first day?
12:25 AM Triffid_Hunter: rue_: technically feb 15 but the great shutdown and migration began a week ago.. when literally a billion people all go somewhere else, you have to leave really early to beat the rush :P
12:25 AM rue_: oooh god all my orders are gonna go into dispute
12:25 AM rue_: i hate that
12:25 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I always thought chinese new year was earlier.
12:25 AM Triffid_Hunter: if you've already placed them, they should make it out in time maybe a little delayed, but I strongly suggest against placing any new ones without first confirming with the seller/provider what their new years plans are
12:25 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Like, 8th jan.
12:25 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Is that just orthdox catholic?
12:25 AM Triffid_Hunter: Jak_o_Shadows: no idea what that is but CNY is usually mid february somewhere - it's based on lunar calendar rather than solar so it moves around a bit each year
12:26 AM Triffid_Hunter: since I'm currently in shenzhen china I'm kinda looking forward to it, this city becomes a ghost town
12:26 AM rue_: this is what I'd expect to see, this seller listed a A4988 driver (1pcs) for $63 aka "screw off, I'm not here"
12:27 AM Jak_o_Shadows: oh wow, that'll be a really interesting experience.
12:28 AM rue_: I once bought a cached item, at the last second I noticed the updated price, the seller was completely ok with me backing out
12:29 AM rue_: so I just set up an AMD 800Mhz laptop for running the printers and cnc machines, its really fast for an 800
12:30 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I SHOULD set up my old laptop for that sort of job
12:30 AM rue_: battery backup
12:30 AM rue_: I just need to setup a UPS for the printer and cnc machines
12:31 AM Jak_o_Shadows: it's probably more because I accidentally tore the screen off it
12:36 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Oh yeah, I was software debouncing the joystick so I could detect button sequences.
12:38 AM rue_: I have a macro for that
12:38 AM rue_: it does ramping
12:43 AM Jak_o_Shadows: macro for the debouncing or for the sequence detection?
12:43 AM rue_: debounce
12:43 AM rue_: what do you need for sequence detection?
12:45 AM rue_: like . ... . .. will open the settings menu?
12:45 AM rue_: oh
12:45 AM rue_: so your not worried about timing, just the sequence
12:46 AM zhanx: timing is still part of that fyi
12:46 AM Jak_o_Shadows: pretty much. The timing constraint is pretty loose.
12:48 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Just gotta get the toolchain working on this stupid windows computer
12:51 AM rue_: I have a few projects I want to incorperate 'jestures' into
12:51 AM rue_: I been thinking on what constitutes a jesture
12:52 AM Jak_o_Shadows: For me, in this, it's digital buttons. The analog buttons I map into digital because it's literally just another bit
12:54 AM rue_: if I made a lightswitch, that could sense up and down motion
12:55 AM rue_: then waving your hand up down infront of it in the right ways could make it turnt he lights on or off
12:55 AM rue_: gesture
01:46 AM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
02:15 AM z64555: rue_: I reccomend using a mouse's laser sensor
02:15 AM z64555: i forget the name of it
08:27 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/3hwceUr
09:00 AM rue_: that part is easy tho, its programming gesture detection
09:02 AM robotustra: what?
09:07 AM rue_: SOFTWARE TO DETECT A GESTURE
09:09 AM robotustra: no, it's my STL viewer
09:09 AM rue_: oh
09:10 AM rue_: yea I need to browse directories of stls, mind making a version to render a thumbnail grid?
09:10 AM robotustra: which can load multiple stl files and put them into right place
09:11 AM rue_: ah, different goal
09:11 AM robotustra: I want to use it as my CAD system after I finish it
09:16 AM robotustra: and another goal is to use it as a robot control system too
09:16 AM robotustra: or robot pose control
09:17 AM rue_: k
09:17 AM rue_: is it python?
09:18 AM robotustra: no, QT c++
09:18 AM rue_: ooo
09:18 AM rue_: was rendering an stl much code?
09:18 AM robotustra: I don't know python and don't want even to know
09:19 AM robotustra: rendering is not so big, the parser is pretty big
09:19 AM rue_: you wrote the bit to parse the data into a memory structure that qt renders?
09:19 AM robotustra: yes
09:20 AM robotustra: I describe the model as a text in my own DSL and parse it
09:21 AM robotustra: the stl viewer initially was for 1 STL only
09:21 AM rue_: do you have that version source?
09:21 AM robotustra: no
09:21 AM robotustra: 1 sec
09:22 AM robotustra: https://github.com/mkeeter/fstl
09:22 AM robotustra: this is a starting point for me
09:22 AM veverak: well
09:22 AM rue_: ok
09:22 AM veverak: where are those lidar spams
09:23 AM veverak: *slams

07:07 PM Tom_L: rue_shop3, how many of those parts do you make?
07:57 PM rue_: were getting up to about 60
07:57 PM rue_: so, about 5 or 6 a week, when were going
07:57 PM rue_: I have to get the machine making one of the other peices after we finish this plate of 3
08:44 PM Tom_L: what other piece?
08:45 PM Tom_L: you need a foreign supplier...
09:01 PM Tom_L: rue_shop3, wanna send some files for me to mess with?
09:02 PM Tom_L: kinda all caught up here now that it's trammed etc
09:38 PM rue_bed: the files are that same format, you sure?
09:38 PM Tom_L: yeah i think i can deal with them now
09:38 PM Tom_L: just had to figure it out
09:38 PM rue_bed: well, we can try another simple one
09:39 PM rue_bed: OR would you be interested in something more recreational, a snowflake you can cut out of a cd on a good day ;)
09:39 PM rue_bed: its a real challange
09:40 PM rue_bed: ?
09:41 PM rue_bed: the snowflake would be the has-to-work challange, you cant fathom hand correction
09:42 PM Tom_L: does it serve a purpose?
09:42 PM rue_bed: christmas decoration
09:42 PM Tom_L: baa humbug
09:42 PM rue_bed: might make people say OOOooo, but if they understood how much effort it took they always would
09:43 PM rue_bed: k, well
09:43 PM rue_bed: I told myself I'd go to the other town and do my grocery shopping, and pick up stuff from the hospital
09:43 PM rue_bed: I still can...
09:43 PM rue_bed: I'd have to go now
09:44 PM rue_bed: maybe I should
09:44 PM rue_bed: opportunity is fleeting
09:44 PM rue_bed: hey it could be too late
09:44 PM Tom_L: but you'd have to get up
09:44 PM Tom_L: it's nearly 8
09:44 PM rue_bed: I took wakeup pills 1.5 hours ao
09:45 PM Tom_L: i'm up for at least 3 more hrs
09:45 PM Tom_L: gimme something to do..
09:45 PM Tom_L: oh, i got some coolant today
09:45 PM Tom_L: gonna mix up a jug maybe later or tomorrow
09:46 PM rue_: ok ok where are my hospital keys...
09:46 PM rue_: yup
09:46 PM rue_: hold on
09:47 PM Tom_L: what should we call that first part?
09:47 PM rue_: actlever
09:48 PM rue_: oh ..
09:48 PM rue_: 3inchactleverwithtrigger
09:48 PM rue_: iirc
09:48 PM Tom_L: they should have 'real' part numbers
09:48 PM rue_: I do , its A-soemthing
09:48 PM rue_: somewhere around 18
09:48 PM rue_: but I'm not sure
09:50 PM rue_: can i leave it in metric?
09:50 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure, i can try one metric and see now that i know where to put it
09:51 PM Tom_L: it would be easiest in inch though
09:51 PM Tom_L: try one of each and see if they turn out the same
09:54 PM Tom_L: was 3inchwithtrigger metric?
09:54 PM rue_: no I had to change it for ya
09:54 PM Tom_L: but you renamed it
09:54 PM Tom_L: 3inch4tom
09:54 PM Tom_L: didn't you?
09:55 PM rue_: yup
09:55 PM Tom_L: so is either metric?
09:55 PM Tom_L: gotta boot in 64bit..
09:59 PM rue_shop4: the truck started, I guess the mission is on
09:59 PM Jak_o_Shadows: got the toolchain working. Windows powershell did nto approve of it
11:44 PM * rue_ cries and flails
11:44 PM rue_: the contractor at the hospital was throwing out led light fixutres and I missed them
11:45 PM Tom_L: awww
11:45 PM Tom_L: you see the comparison pic?
11:48 PM rue_shop4: nope
11:48 PM Tom_L: in garf
11:48 PM rue_shop4: I really wish I'd tucked some of those lights away when I had the chance
11:48 PM rue_shop4: not the first time I'v wished I'd done something like that
11:48 PM Tom_L: yeah they're pretty nice
11:48 PM Tom_L: i put one above the mill
11:49 PM Tom_L: those couldn't be that old
11:50 PM rue_shop4: yea, prolly a year or two
11:50 PM rue_shop4: expensive commercial ones
11:50 PM * rue_shop4 kicks himself
