01:19 AM rue_: so, I got all set up to try photomasking based on UV nail gel
01:19 AM rue_: and the gel didn't set
01:19 AM rue_: I tried the 4 colours I got, turns out only the clear will set

01:23 AM rue_: I got one!
01:25 AM mrdata: this spammer is on a bunch of other channels too
01:26 AM rue_: its rucas
01:26 AM rue_: he hates freenode
01:26 AM rue_: he is part of ... goatse group
01:26 AM rue_: goes around exploiting anything they can do point out how insecure it is
01:27 AM * mrdata sleeps
01:45 AM eraserpencil: anyone here has experience with amcl?
01:46 AM rue_: wha?
01:46 AM eraserpencil: adaptive monte carlo localisation
01:46 AM eraserpencil: will... for amlocalisation
01:46 AM eraserpencil: its for localisation *
01:47 AM rue_: not i
01:47 AM eraserpencil: i is sad
01:49 AM eraserpencil: what part of robtics do you do?
01:50 AM rue_: the mechinical electronic programmed part
02:04 AM z64555: he works a bit close to the metal
02:05 AM z64555: amcl sounds like something I should know
02:05 AM * z64555 researches it
02:13 AM eraserpencil: I need help on this question
02:13 AM eraserpencil: https://robotics.stackexchange.com/questions/15089/the-difference-between-iterative-closest-point-scan-matching-and-adaptive-monte
02:48 AM z64555: well, no they're not the same. At least thats what I understood from my few minutes of reading the wiki on MCL w/ KLD and ICP
02:49 AM z64555: MCL works off a static map of the environment, and performs calculations based on sensor inputs to deduce where it is
02:50 AM z64555: ICP compares a large point cloud to a reference point cloud to determine if the reference exists in the larger point cloud
02:50 AM z64555: (which is largely used in image processing, from my understanding, to determine what its looking at)
02:52 AM eraserpencil: did you have a chance to read through the paper?
02:53 AM z64555: sadly no, it wouldn't download for some reason
02:53 AM z64555: oh, there it went. I guess my internet is slow again
02:55 AM eraserpencil: ok
02:55 AM z64555: 42 pages, hm. yeah gonna need coffee for this one
02:55 AM eraserpencil: so ICP creates 2 point clouds?
02:57 AM eraserpencil: so ICP does what amcl does but in point cloud and non-static
02:58 AM eraserpencil: aka, reference and actual scan are dynamic? whereares amcl takes a static map and an actualy scan
03:00 AM z64555: Reference cloud is still static, so in that regard MCL and ICP are similar
03:01 AM eraserpencil: I feel reference cloud means the scan of t-1
03:02 AM z64555: maybe in the paper, I haven't read it yet. waiting for coffee before I start on that
03:02 AM eraserpencil: whereas for amcl the static map is the one mapped x time ago
03:02 AM eraserpencil: hmmmm
03:03 AM eraserpencil: it's no rush, just interesting to ponder the differences
03:04 AM eraserpencil: only ROS seems to implement amcl while others implement some form of ICP, for example yujin and mrpt
03:19 AM z64555: I see the author likes to make books out of paragraphs
03:21 AM z64555: ok
03:28 AM z64555: Ah
03:28 AM z64555: Ok
03:28 AM z64555: Now I think I understand
03:29 AM z64555: MCL still returns a point cloud
03:29 AM z64555: if using just MCL, the process to get the actual position would be something simplistic like an average
03:30 AM z64555: but he tacks on ICP to further refine the point cloud
03:33 AM z64555: I'm not sure what the ICP's iteration looks like, though
03:48 AM eraserpencil: so why not just do ICP striaght
03:48 AM eraserpencil: if its more accurate
03:48 AM eraserpencil: alot of other robotic techniques have only ICP
04:42 AM z64555: speed, perhaps
04:42 AM z64555: less iterations of ICP needed
05:11 AM Atomsk is now known as ace4016
05:00 PM bolt_ is now known as bolt
06:56 PM rue_: less bloatware?
06:56 PM orlock: hmm
06:57 PM orlock: more coffee seems to be a solution to my problem
06:57 PM orlock: (been falling asleep when the kids are)
06:57 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtFTRyS__Yc&feature=youtu.be
06:57 PM Tom_L: pretty square to me...
07:08 PM rue_: nice
07:10 PM Tom_shop: should be ready for action now
07:10 PM Tom_shop: minus a couple chip guards
08:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Chip_Guard2.jpg
08:31 PM Tom_L: before tramming:

08:31 PM Tom_L: after tramming:
08:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Sacrificial_Plate1.jpg
08:32 PM Tom_L: didn't have any long pieces of polycarbonate
09:28 PM rue_: I cant tell deltaz
09:29 PM Tom_L: what you workin on tonight?
09:32 PM orlock: working up a motor to my telescope controller beta
09:32 PM orlock: which is just an arduino and an A4988
09:32 PM rue_: yep
09:32 PM orlock: i need to make a 2cm male-female extension cord
09:32 PM orlock: 4 pin
09:32 PM orlock: because the motor is 6 wire with the center taps broken out, so it wont plug straight into a A4988 breakout board
09:32 PM orlock: due to the extra header holes getting in the way
09:32 PM zhanx: orlock taken any awesome space photo's lately?
09:32 PM orlock: zhanx: nah, reached the limit on my old mount, but also proved that my software worked
09:32 PM zhanx: k
09:32 PM orlock: since the software worked, i invested $300 in a mount that doesnt suck, but has no computer interface
09:32 PM orlock: so i pulled out the motor driver board and took it into work
09:33 PM orlock: borrowed one of the DSO's and got the timing
09:33 PM zhanx: and now you are making it work
09:33 PM orlock: well, i'm replacing it with an arduino so it can run my code
09:33 PM zhanx: your last photo was my desktop till the nasa jupiter photo came out and that was over a year
09:34 PM orlock: the code will lactually be simpler - before, i was toggling pins on and off to drive a darlington array for each coil
09:34 PM orlock: now i'm using one of the 3d printer style drivers
09:34 PM orlock: so theres a mass of crap i dont need to do
09:34 PM zhanx: yea i recognize the A4988
09:35 PM orlock: bipolar vs unipolar motors, etc
09:35 PM orlock: the new mount actually has _bearings_
09:35 PM orlock: and the motors are attached via multiple bolts, they are actually integrated into the mount
09:36 PM orlock: the previous one, they just sorta.. clamped onto the side.
09:36 PM zhanx: so a nice upgrade then
09:36 PM orlock: yeah
09:37 PM orlock: i pulled apart one of the NEMA23's i got from work, i couldent spin it.. the inside had rusted :-\
09:37 PM orlock: (It's Ok, i have 25 more..)
09:37 PM zhanx: my sister and her kid moved in with me, and I start my own IT Field Support company so my projects are on hold again.
09:37 PM orlock: ahh, last i remember you were doing truck/fleet maintenence?
09:37 PM zhanx: yep
09:38 PM zhanx: making more now working less
09:38 PM orlock: and less physical stress
09:38 PM zhanx: lots less physical stress is the proper way to put it
09:39 PM orlock: going to get a "new" car.. had this one for 5 years now.
09:39 PM orlock: its what you know as a Brat, heh.
09:39 PM orlock: New service technician at work is an american
09:39 PM orlock: he was looking after our robots over there
09:39 PM zhanx: i got a new suv last month
09:39 PM orlock: First thing he did.. bought one of our cars
09:39 PM zhanx: well new to me
09:39 PM zhanx: nice
09:40 PM orlock: Not this exact one, but looks essentially the same
09:40 PM orlock: https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/my-black-ve-ss-v-ute.149382/
09:41 PM orlock: But no more!
09:41 PM orlock: No more australian made cars
09:41 PM orlock: Ford, Holden (GM) and Toyota all shut up shop
09:42 PM zhanx: not bad looking
09:43 PM orlock: 6 or 6.2 chev v8 .. i forget which
09:44 PM orlock: i'm getting a corolla, most likely.
09:44 PM orlock: just to get my to/from work
09:44 PM orlock: the subaru's about to shit the bed
09:44 PM zhanx: i needed more space so i got a small engine suv
09:45 PM orlock: yeah, our family car is another one you yanks dont get
09:45 PM orlock: Ford Territory
09:45 PM orlock: it's the suv version of our Ford Falcon
09:45 PM orlock: with the aussie 4.0l straight 6
09:45 PM zhanx: this is a 3.2 straight 6
09:46 PM orlock: whats that from?
09:46 PM orlock: the straight 6's are quite unusual these days
09:46 PM zhanx: a montero
09:47 PM orlock: bitsamissing?
09:47 PM zhanx: mitushibia so something like that yea
09:47 PM orlock: You know, in Australia, they bought Chrysler out?
09:47 PM orlock: (and then killed it)
09:48 PM zhanx: no i don't really follow that side of the pond
09:48 PM orlock: that was back in like, 1980 though
09:48 PM orlock: yeah
09:48 PM orlock: you guys dont even know about our hemi 6cyl's and chargers :)
09:49 PM zhanx: australia is not really covered over here
09:49 PM zhanx: I want your ford explorer diesel engine
10:42 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
10:44 PM orlock: The system is unable to boot automatically. The BOOT
10:44 PM orlock: environment variable needs to be set to a bootable
10:44 PM orlock: image.
10:44 PM orlock: doh
10:45 PM zhanx: doh your hd is going
10:46 PM orlock: Cisco switch
10:46 PM orlock: took it out of the box about a week ago
10:46 PM orlock: havent even had a chance to install it
10:46 PM orlock: it's a 2960-S
10:49 PM zhanx: oh fun
10:49 PM zhanx: i got like 5 console cables but they don't help you
10:59 PM orlock: You know they all the new ones actually have on-board USB ports that act as USB-serial ports?
11:06 PM zhanx: yes
11:06 PM zhanx: i got both
