12:00 AM rue_: software pwm should be at 1Hz, but its cycling every 16 seconds
12:03 AM rue_: putting me at about 500Hz
12:03 AM orlock: so you need more pin
12:03 AM orlock: pain
12:06 AM orlock: because it doesnt Hertz enough
12:06 AM * orlock ducks
12:06 AM rue_: :P
12:06 AM mrdata: dont hertz the ducks
12:06 AM mrdata: um,
12:06 AM * rue_ tries to work out a method to control the elements
12:06 AM rue_: I think
12:06 AM rue_: I think I'll use the error to bump the pwm level up and down, but not to determine it
12:09 AM rue_: so each eval, it will modify the pwm by up to 50% of its current value, depending on the error
12:09 AM rue_: the 7" lcd I got it too big for my google cardboard...
12:09 AM rue_: PUTZ
05:41 AM Tom_L: rue_, http://gnipsel.com/files/mill-g-code/
05:41 AM Tom_L: somewhere in there may be a start for you
05:44 AM Tom_L: https://cadsofttools.com/products/dxf-dwg-g-code/
05:44 AM Tom_L: pro version
05:44 AM Tom_L: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxf2gcode/
08:18 AM rue_bed: no
08:56 AM rue_: I"ll write it myself this time.
12:34 PM SomeT: does anyone here use ARIA? http://robots.mobilerobots.com/wiki/ARIA
01:06 PM SomeT: slave?
07:19 PM rue_: yay, the leds for my christmas lights arrived....
07:19 PM rue_: falling asleep
07:19 PM rue_: back in 1.5 hrs
07:35 PM Tom_itx: pics...

08:27 PM rue_: hah looks like the drilling didn't take long
08:27 PM rue_: thats the origional speed controller?
08:33 PM rue_: nice
08:33 PM rue_: I wonder how much the speed of my spindle varries
08:34 PM rue_: if I saw right, looks like you have +-400rpm
08:39 PM Tom_itx: it's not a big enough motor
08:39 PM Tom_itx: the PID tries to keep it constant though
08:40 PM Tom_itx: it stalled on the 5/16 bit so i had to slow the feed down to 1.5ipm
08:41 PM Tom_itx: i got some cutters today
08:42 PM Tom_itx: another 1/8" carbide and a couple 1/4" ones
08:43 PM Tom_itx: i was gonna try your part but i ran out of time
10:09 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:12 PM rue_shop3: I'm trying 61mm/min
10:20 PM Tom_itx: i bet i can cut that time down
10:20 PM Tom_itx: what had you been doing?
10:23 PM Tom_itx: 2.4ipm is a pretty good clip for your mill
10:24 PM rue_shop3: apparently the jog is 500mm/min
10:24 PM rue_shop3: I dont think there is much margin up to it stalling
10:25 PM Tom_itx: i programmed it for 6 but i'll probably cut it back to 3 and see how it does
10:26 PM Tom_itx: i was getting about the same rapids with my original steppers on the sherline
10:26 PM Tom_itx: ~20 ipm
10:26 PM Tom_itx: with the new ones i got ~80
10:26 PM Tom_itx: i dunno what it is now
10:26 PM Tom_itx: 160 i think i saw
10:27 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:27 PM Tom_itx: it might go higher but there's no reason to
10:27 PM Tom_itx: and i'm still running the 5A steppers at 2.5A
10:27 PM rue_shop3: keep the acceleration down and see how far it'll push
10:27 PM Tom_itx: you can look at my config if you want
10:28 PM rue_shop3: :) I'm ok
10:28 PM rue_shop3: we just got amazon plastic today, so I'm winding up the printer, and the two cncs while I'm at it
10:28 PM rue_shop3: oh, ... and the 3rd....
10:30 PM Tom_itx: did you see the videos?
10:30 PM rue_shop3: yea, nice
10:30 PM rue_shop3: at 61mm/min, the chips are comming off as little 2mm long curls
10:30 PM Tom_itx: i blew a spindle fuse running the 5/16" bit
10:31 PM rue_shop3: hah, good one
10:31 PM Tom_itx: so i put a 5A back in and didn't have any problems
10:31 PM rue_shop3: now you need that 1.5hp motor
10:31 PM Tom_itx: except when it got to the bottom it would stall the motor a bit
10:31 PM Tom_itx: yeah
10:31 PM Tom_itx: this little one sucks
10:31 PM Tom_itx: but it's cutting metal
10:31 PM rue_shop3: ... you saw the motor on my new one?
10:31 PM Tom_itx: i'm not sure
10:31 PM rue_shop3: but its for high speed, not high power
10:32 PM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc4/p1080818.jpg
10:32 PM rue_shop3: the encoder is on the spindle itself, under the pulley
10:32 PM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc4/p1090056.jpg
10:33 PM Tom_itx: what's it off of?
10:33 PM rue_shop3: its a 9V cordless drill motor
10:33 PM Tom_itx: ahh
10:33 PM rue_shop3: so, its not completel junk
10:33 PM Tom_itx: i need to make some plastic shrouds around the table now
10:33 PM rue_shop3: the supply is 12V
10:33 PM rue_shop3: I put it in a plastic bin
10:33 PM Tom_itx: and you need to clean up your mess under yours
10:33 PM rue_shop3: with some cutouts
10:33 PM rue_shop3: moved it off that table
10:34 PM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc4/p1090553.jpg
10:34 PM rue_shop3: bingo
10:34 PM rue_shop3: hah, who says I dont take pics
10:34 PM Tom_itx: good idea
10:34 PM Tom_itx: that little air blower works ok
10:34 PM Tom_itx: i needed some thinner oil though
10:34 PM rue_shop3: armyofevilrobots put his in a custom box, I realized the advantages later
10:34 PM Tom_itx: just grabbed what i had to try it
10:35 PM rue_shop3: huh
10:35 PM rue_shop3: puffer?
10:35 PM Tom_itx: no
10:35 PM * rue_shop3 tries once again to sell tom on the puff controller
10:35 PM rue_shop3: saves a LOT of air
10:35 PM rue_shop3: the first source code is FREEeeeeee.....

10:35 PM rue_shop3: I have one remember?
10:35 PM Tom_itx: oh
10:36 PM rue_shop3: got it for the lathe
10:36 PM Tom_itx: did you run oil thru it?
10:36 PM rue_shop3: not using it yet
10:36 PM rue_shop3: but I did play with it
10:36 PM Tom_itx: i may shorten the oil tube
10:37 PM Tom_itx: get a plastic container for oil and hook it to the column
10:37 PM rue_shop3: did you take the strainer off?
10:37 PM Tom_itx: no
10:37 PM rue_shop3: mineral oil?
10:37 PM Tom_itx: i dunno what it was
10:37 PM rue_shop3: hahah
10:37 PM Tom_itx: it was some stuff i've had for quite a while
10:37 PM Tom_itx: not motor oil
10:37 PM rue_shop3: "it was glowing green, I had people encourage me to make it dissapear"...
10:37 PM Tom_itx: some sort of appliance oil
10:38 PM Tom_itx: i wanna get some water soluable oil
10:38 PM * rue_shop3 looks at the remains of washing machines around tom and wonders
10:38 PM Tom_itx: the cutting fluid they normally use
10:38 PM rue_shop3: carefull of brake fluid, it strips any and all paints
10:38 PM Tom_itx: i know
10:39 PM rue_shop3: my lathe prolly wont forgive me
10:39 PM rue_shop3: never seen oil mix with water like that tho
10:39 PM rue_shop3: 8-|
10:39 PM Tom_itx: i'm not sure it's considered an oil
10:40 PM Tom_itx: i need to shim the column a tiny bit more but i wanted to get those holes done
10:40 PM Tom_itx: it's real close but off a tiny bit
10:41 PM Tom_itx: it's a time consuming process
10:43 PM rue_shop3: maybe some jack bolts next time
10:43 PM Tom_itx: naw, i'm down to .001" shimstock now
11:03 PM rue_shop3: that part, at my origional rates was 16 hrs
11:04 PM rue_shop3: but I was using a 1.5mm bit
11:05 PM orlock: i wonder how much the Roland toy mills sell for now
11:06 PM orlock: they were under $1k last i remember, but ould only mill wax/plastic
11:16 PM rue_: geez, my old machine was $100 and thats the most expensive I'v been on a cnc machine yet
11:30 PM rue_: when I start the machines, the heater shuts off almost instantly, its cold when there is nothing else going in the shop
11:52 PM zhanx: evening orlock
11:56 PM rue_: the little F** is running at 1Mhz
