12:27 PM TFoolery: Is the work of Robert Houdin on automatons every studied in the field of robotics? I am a magician and am curious if there is any value from the work of histories renowned magicians in modern studies.
12:30 PM Snert_: automated gimmics and props you mean?
12:39 PM TFoolery: Bit of both, more interested in early magician's use of automatons effect on the people's perspective on robots and technology. Not sure if there is much value in sinking a tone of time into that type of research.
12:40 PM TFoolery: This quote from Arthur C Clarke sparked the idea there may be some value but more opinions would be helpful "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"
12:42 PM Snert_: The greeks had that stuff too. Archimedes did abunch of it too.
12:42 PM Snert_: and that Delphi Oracle they figured was a cute gimmik
12:44 PM Snert_: Leo DaVinci did the automated wine pouring thing I think.
12:46 PM Snert_: I got to play with a magic box where you bring a dead bat back to life. Was pretty cool.
12:46 PM Snert_: just electromagnets and a couple switches. And a hidden hand held button thinger.
12:47 PM Snert_: I don't think it actually has to be sufficiently advanced, just well hidden.
01:35 PM mrdata: the oracle at delphi wasnt an automaton
08:48 PM tttb2 is now known as tttb
09:19 PM tttb3 is now known as tttb
