12:06 AM anonnumberanon: my glue gun burn is almost fully healed
12:10 AM anonnumberanon: "thats why it uses a band saw so the teeth can cool before they get back to the metal again"
12:10 AM anonnumberanon: mind blown
12:21 AM rue_bed: wow, there would be so many things I could tell you if I only knew what you didn't know
12:32 AM anonnumberanon: i dont get it
12:37 AM anonnumberanon: crash coursing :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmEeR5MTjrg
12:39 AM anonnumberanon: i decided this christmas week ill only be drilling and tapping
01:52 AM mrdata: time for another glue-gun burn?
07:15 AM z64555: anonnumberanon: sanity. :D
11:41 AM anonnumberanon: mrdata, I think I'll be using white gloves next time i do glue gun stuff
11:42 AM anonnumberanon: at least i can pull the glove off real fast
11:42 AM anonnumberanon: when a giant blob of glue comes falling in the wrong direction and comes sucking the life out of my skin
11:42 AM anonnumberanon: :>
12:42 PM mrdata: anonnumberanon, yeah i have done that to myself; i was helping install a bunch of LED lighting and we used glue guns to secure it
12:42 PM mrdata: very nasty burns
12:42 PM mrdata: tho small
12:43 PM mrdata: you probbly wont even need to pull off the glove; just the barrier there prevents it from sticking to the skin
12:57 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, dropped the X axis plate and Y axis ballscrew off at my bud's today to get machined.
12:57 PM weyland|yutani: mrdata, hotglue?
12:58 PM mrdata: weyland|yutani, yeah
12:58 PM mrdata: a silly thing to use upside down
12:58 PM Tom_L: almost like welding upside down
12:59 PM mrdata: omg
12:59 PM weyland|yutani: bukakke of pain
01:42 PM anonnumberanon: mrdata, yeah. Mine was a large blob falling straight on my index finger. I didn't think it was going to be this bad because the glue gets cold fast I seriously thought it wasn't gonna do much. Then the pain wave slowly made me realize it was going to be slightly problematic...
01:43 PM mrdata: it hurts a lot less after 3 days
01:45 PM mrdata: curiously enough, i melted some hot glue and some paraffin together
01:45 PM mrdata: to try some casting; when you drip that on skin, it isnt so bad
01:45 PM mrdata: i think because it doesnt stick to the skin
01:46 PM mrdata: but maybe the temperature is lower, too?
01:46 PM mrdata: idk
02:30 PM anonnumberanon: rue_mohr, you were too slow, they did it first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA4u_9FLzso
03:18 PM z64555: anonnumberanon: surface area vs. volume
03:18 PM z64555: well, volume and total heat
03:19 PM z64555: if you spread it out over a larger area, the affected area might have a lower temperature
03:20 PM z64555: so, wipe/flick off the bulk of the glue then spread the rest. Dunk in a cup of water (which you should've had nearby)
03:23 PM z64555: mrdata: paraffin has a lower melting temperature than hot glue. It's likely the combined mixture had a lower heat capacity, too
07:18 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, dosn't matter
07:20 PM rue_mohr: that not what I'm doing anyhow
07:20 PM rue_mohr: and they prolly put mroe than $500k into it
07:21 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, my buddy said for you to get your mill goin
07:21 PM rue_mohr: the cnc or the mill?
07:21 PM Tom_L: cnc
07:21 PM rue_mohr: no room
07:21 PM rue_mohr: I'm collecting parts and stuff tho
07:22 PM rue_mohr: did you see the chuck, came in yesterday
07:22 PM Tom_L: i took some stuff out to him today
07:22 PM Tom_L: yes
07:22 PM Tom_L: i would consider one of those with a straigh shank
07:23 PM rue_mohr: I want to try to bore a taper for it
07:23 PM rue_mohr: I woulnd't if anything depended on it
07:23 PM Tom_L: why?
07:24 PM rue_mohr: its an insane thing to try to do
07:24 PM rue_mohr: cut an Mt2 taper on my lathe
07:24 PM rue_mohr: if ti works, that spindle will be solid as a rock
07:24 PM Tom_L: oh i though you meant the straight shank
07:25 PM Tom_L: you might be surprised unless you have a drawbar behind it
07:25 PM Tom_L: MT2 does not take any side load
07:25 PM rue_mohr: its got a drawbar, I checked that with the seller
07:26 PM Tom_L: good
07:26 PM rue_mohr: so, the trick would be to find a peice of drill rod from a well driller
07:26 PM Tom_L: did you see those spindle heads i was looking at?
07:26 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:26 PM rue_mohr: wow, those dont have a motor do they?
07:26 PM Tom_L: no
07:27 PM Tom_L: there are a couple that do though
07:27 PM Tom_L: but they're alot more
07:27 PM Tom_L: you back to work now?
07:28 PM rue_mohr: been working this week yea
07:29 PM Tom_L: got some drag chain coming
07:29 PM rue_mohr: :) didn't want to wait for my printed stuff to get there eh?
07:29 PM rue_mohr: cmon, it'd only take like 3 mo
07:29 PM Tom_L: i thought you were too busy
07:30 PM Tom_L: i think 18 x 25 should be big enough
07:30 PM Tom_L: i hope
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I was holding up on a size from ya
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I'v printed some before, it works
07:30 PM Tom_L: i'm sure it does
07:30 PM Tom_L: i wonder how well pla holds up to oils & solvents though
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I ahve some real stuff for my new machine
07:31 PM rue_mohr: its in a box
07:31 PM rue_mohr: along with motors, rails, bearings, spindle motors, a controller, table...
07:31 PM rue_mohr: almost the only thing I need is that frame
07:31 PM rue_mohr: I made a new pendant
07:32 PM Tom_L: come on down and i'll take you to the scrap yards
07:32 PM rue_mohr: :) I'd love to, maybe vaccation next year?
07:32 PM Tom_L: you'd need a bus to take it all back. i just know you
07:32 PM Tom_L: she might have something to say about it
07:32 PM rue_mohr: or maybe I should go to gohngong?
07:32 PM rue_mohr: I have an S10
07:33 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if it would survive a road trip
07:33 PM Tom_L: the steel scrap has a high turnover
07:33 PM Tom_L: if you see it you better get it or it may be gone
07:33 PM rue_mohr: the pile here just sits there
07:34 PM rue_mohr: and rusts
07:34 PM Tom_L: yeah they have a couple piles like that too
07:34 PM rue_mohr: they go by the lb?
07:34 PM Tom_L: yeah
07:34 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure what the rate is
07:34 PM rue_mohr: they have dishwasher machines?
07:34 PM Tom_L: on a mountain
07:35 PM rue_mohr: dude "dishwashing machines"? where you from...
07:35 PM rue_mohr: a mountian of them?
07:35 PM Tom_L: not a place you'd have access to probably
07:35 PM rue_mohr: :/ I need 94 for the mecha, love to buy them by the lb
07:35 PM rue_mohr: oh
07:35 PM Tom_L: the magnet crane moves them pretty quick
07:35 PM rue_mohr: 8-|
07:35 PM rue_mohr: ooooh
07:36 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I could get the vancouver landfill to sponsor my project by letting me at what they get
07:37 PM rue_mohr: hey ifny
07:38 PM Tom_L: anonnumberanon seems to be ordering lots of stuff for his project
07:39 PM rue_mohr: I'm pesemistic, but he has a lot of ground to make up
07:39 PM anonnumberanon: yeah Tom_L yeah just tools and baby steps right now, but already thinking about the big picture so I can tailor my exercises towards eventually getting something close to aworking cnc
07:40 PM anonnumberanon: and with the perspective of changing jobs and moving states in a few months, this will go slow
07:43 PM rue_mohr: oh thats what will happen to this plan
07:43 PM rue_mohr: just as it gets good, he moves, he never finished unpacking so over the next 4 years, all we get is to hear about it
07:47 PM anonnumberanon: that's the scenario in the back of my head that I am trying to avoid
07:47 PM anonnumberanon: meaning the next place where i live will need to have a garage or shop
07:48 PM anonnumberanon: and since this may be in NYC maybe I'll be able to find something of the sort in Brooklyn
07:49 PM anonnumberanon: all i have right now is a room, a parent's house 3 hours away and a garage filled with junk
07:50 PM anonnumberanon: because i get shit pay
07:57 PM rue_mohr: shit pay is relative, whats the bum living on the street down the road making?
07:59 PM anonnumberanon: i'm making shit pay compared to what it should be in my job market
08:00 PM anonnumberanon: like about 4 times less
08:00 PM rue_mohr: you also live in a place with like a million other people
08:01 PM anonnumberanon: yeah but they don't get good pay around here, not like in and around NYC, and also people are old here and young ones are druggies or losers
08:01 PM anonnumberanon: i won't be sad to leave
08:02 PM Tom_L: cost of living is higher there too probably
08:03 PM rue_mohr: home/mp3/Blur-The Great Escape-02-Country House.mp3
08:04 PM anonnumberanon: i spend 750 in rent and it will go up to a lot more for what i want, with hopefully some garage space or something of the sort
08:04 PM anonnumberanon: but pay is 4x as much
08:04 PM rue_mohr: you cant get much more than a closet here for less than $1200/mo
08:05 PM Tom_L: i will stay where i'm at thank you
08:05 PM rue_mohr: but... your retired aren't ya?
08:05 PM anonnumberanon: actually, so a closet? how big? also can i drop oil in it and can i make a lot of noise?
08:05 PM Tom_L: no
08:06 PM rue_mohr: your still selling insurance?
08:06 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, about 4 or 5 square feet
08:06 PM rue_mohr: its not benders closet
08:06 PM anonnumberanon: with a vertical bed?
08:06 PM anonnumberanon: i'll settle for a zero gravity module if not
08:07 PM anonnumberanon: and just bring a sleeping bag and some zip ties, im sure i can make it work
08:07 PM netwoodle is now known as noodle
08:07 PM Tom_L: did i ever sell insurance?
08:07 PM * rue_mohr plays it again
08:07 PM rue_mohr: they say my place is worth $0.5M
08:08 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, thought you were...
08:08 PM rue_mohr: after your career as a machininst and a mechanic
08:08 PM rue_mohr: ?
08:08 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:08 PM rue_mohr: heh, you prolly know more about me
08:08 PM Tom_L: only what i've been told
08:09 PM rue_mohr: tommorow is the 21st, I'm running out of time to go christmas shopping
08:09 PM Tom_L: you can always start on next year
08:09 PM rue_mohr: I was going t do that in jan.
08:10 PM Tom_L: i wish i knew the name of the stuff my bud uses for clamping parts on his cnc
08:10 PM rue_mohr: ?
08:10 PM orlock: Clamps?
08:11 PM rue_mohr: material he makes them from or...?
08:11 PM rue_mohr: 6061?
08:11 PM Tom_L: no, he uses a sacrificial aluminum plate full of all sizes of holes for different fixturing and clamping devices
08:11 PM Tom_L: some press fit in and others just screw in place
08:11 PM Tom_L: he said he hasn't taken it off in a very long time
08:12 PM rue_mohr: wow, it would be nice to do a thing that made enough mney to afford that
08:12 PM Tom_L: and it's fast for clamping stuff and uses less material
08:12 PM Tom_L: well, it does
08:12 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:12 PM Tom_L: i should have taken a picture of it when i was out there but i forgot
08:12 PM Tom_L: i was in a hurry
08:12 PM rue_mohr: so, whats the name of the town your in?
08:12 PM Tom_L: USA
08:13 PM Tom_L: in case you forgot
08:13 PM rue_mohr: hah
08:13 PM rue_mohr: I want to ask google how long a drive it is
08:13 PM Tom_L: 25 hrs
08:13 PM Tom_L: i bet
08:13 PM rue_mohr: well its kansas, right?
08:13 PM Tom_L: ICT
08:14 PM rue_mohr: 29h to kansas
08:14 PM Tom_L: what's your street number?
08:14 PM rue_mohr: just roberts creek is close enough
08:14 PM Tom_L: ( i could look but too lazy )
08:14 PM rue_mohr: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Roberts+Creek,+British+Columbia/Kansas,+United+States/@44.142519,-111.0585531,5z/data=!4m8!4m7!1m2!1m1!1s0x54863e98cc02dd63:0xaf29fb151144b378!1m2!1m1!1s0x87a31771717c016b:0x68c2b4a94b3e095f!3e0
08:15 PM Tom_L: 5hrs 45 min
08:15 PM rue_mohr: oh god, it'd take a year to get the damn passport put back togethro again
08:15 PM Tom_L: oops that's as a crow flies
08:15 PM Tom_L: 31 hrs
08:16 PM rue_mohr: fast fffing crow
08:16 PM rue_mohr: what?
08:16 PM rue_mohr: oh
08:17 PM rue_mohr: or I could just got o china...
08:17 PM Tom_L: you'd get more for your money
08:17 PM rue_mohr: hah, I dont know what scares me more
08:18 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what the odds are of being shot/looted/beaten are for each option
08:19 PM rue_mohr: if I went to see kat, I'm sure she'd shoot me just as part of the hello protocol
08:19 PM Tom_L: i think they're a little more prone to that down there
08:19 PM orlock: rue_mohr: She's still alive?
08:19 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:20 PM rue_mohr: where DID alabama go?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: oh waaay over there
08:20 PM rue_mohr: I suppose I could fly
08:20 PM rue_mohr: not the same
08:20 PM rue_mohr: prolly cheap as all hell
08:22 PM rue_mohr: I thought we had someone hwere in like montana or soemthing
08:23 PM Tom_L: http://mpwer.com/2014%20Brochure.pdf
08:23 PM Tom_L: stuff like that but not that brand is what he uses
08:23 PM anonnumberanon: I found something for my plate.
08:24 PM anonnumberanon: 2 pieces of 20" by 1.5" by 3" extruded aluminum, here:
08:24 PM anonnumberanon: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-extrusion-extruded-8020-channel-profile-t-slot/282320715397?epid=536957376&hash=item41bba03e85:m:mppxZHeL4TTf6nxGPHX1GSg
08:25 PM Tom_L: per inch
08:25 PM Tom_L: 30" is $30
08:27 PM anonnumberanon: yeah
08:27 PM anonnumberanon: i can get 2 20" pieces
08:27 PM anonnumberanon: he has 20 inchers
08:27 PM anonnumberanon: so $40 in raw materials for my table
08:27 PM anonnumberanon: but that sure won't help me square anything on my machine..
08:29 PM rue_mohr: ok todo list ---------------
08:29 PM rue_mohr: bring tree in, put in stand
08:29 PM rue_mohr: gather garbage,
08:29 PM rue_mohr: turn shop lights off
08:30 PM rue_mohr: I'm dizzy and tired, *sigh*
08:30 PM rue_mohr: cant wait to be a robot
08:30 PM orlock: when all the things that make you weak and strange get engineered away?
08:38 PM mrdata: z64555, yeah probably the combo melts at even lower tempersature, then
08:52 PM rue_mohr: I dont think the strange can be seperated
08:58 PM rue_mohr: "bring tree in" he says, but convieniently ignores "find christmas tree stand"
09:05 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr
09:06 PM Tom_L: if you cut a hole in the floor and just planted one there, it would eliminate this problem on an annual basis
09:06 PM Tom_L: man, i didn't get anything done today on the mill except delivering stuff
09:16 PM rue_mohr: I'd swear I put it in the detents int eh floor from the stand the year before
09:16 PM rue_mohr: almost everything was right there
09:16 PM rue_mohr: like it'd never moved
09:17 PM rue_mohr: ok, tree done, decorate and lights later
09:17 PM * rue_mohr checks how much later is left
09:17 PM rue_mohr: gather garbage
09:17 PM rue_mohr: right, cause I blew that last garbage day
09:20 PM Tom_L: ok enough gazing at fixtures i'll never own
09:20 PM Tom_L: but it gives me ideas
09:25 PM Tom_L: ok i remember now that it's too late what i was gonna do
09:26 PM Tom_L: size the holes on the Z pulley to fit the ballscrew and do the same on the couplers to fit the motors
09:26 PM Tom_L: got reamers for both
09:33 PM rue_mohr: makea postit
09:47 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:48 PM rue_mohr: I suppose if I use a mt2 I'm not going to be running 20k
09:48 PM rue_mohr: "why is there a chuck in the wall?"
09:49 PM rue_mohr: where can I get a high power, high speed brushless motor for free?
09:49 PM rue_mohr: what can those brushless washing machines do?
09:49 PM rue_mohr: a bit under 20krpm I'd imagine
09:49 PM rue_mohr: :-|
09:50 PM rue_mohr: hehe
09:50 PM rue_mohr: if you ahve a big enough motor you can use a anti-reduction pulley you know
09:50 PM rue_mohr: anti reduction?
09:50 PM rue_mohr: yea...
09:50 PM orlock: overdrive!
09:51 PM rue_mohr: what about one of those gocart motors?
09:51 PM rue_mohr: free
09:51 PM rue_mohr: oh yea
09:52 PM rue_mohr: fork lift motor?
09:52 PM rue_mohr: are you even trying?
09:52 PM rue_mohr: hey, what about one of the BIG brushless motors from the photocopiers?
09:53 PM rue_mohr: oo, hmm
09:53 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what they can do
09:53 PM rue_mohr: there are the scooter motors too
09:53 PM rue_mohr: oh, the cnc is big enough to makea new endplate
09:53 PM rue_mohr: damn
09:54 PM rue_mohr: tho, thats like 1/2 the size of the machine
09:55 PM rue_mohr: whatddya bet th hospital lab has a centrefuge with a brushless motor they aren't using anymore
09:55 PM rue_mohr: damn, yea
09:55 PM rue_mohr: ask whats-his-name
09:55 PM rue_mohr: he left, and that other guy is there now
09:55 PM rue_mohr: oh whats-his-name
09:55 PM rue_mohr: yea
09:57 PM rue_mohr: something else uses a brushless motor
09:57 PM rue_mohr: sidhwasher
09:57 PM rue_mohr: what?
09:57 PM rue_mohr: yea, dishwasher
09:57 PM rue_mohr: and you didn't suggest it?
09:58 PM rue_mohr: ok, dishwasher
09:58 PM rue_mohr: how big.. is it?
09:58 PM rue_mohr: prolly 1/4 horse
09:58 PM rue_mohr: lets see the spec
10:00 PM rue_shop3: is this it?
10:00 PM rue_shop3: no, but, damn
10:00 PM rue_shop3: ok look this up
10:01 PM rue_shop3: DRE-8938-001
10:01 PM rue_shop3: says 120w

10:08 PM rue_shop3: model 205850
10:08 PM rue_shop3: 16krpm :)
10:08 PM Tom_L: gonna be some clean dishes
10:08 PM rue_shop3: type 20585.000
10:09 PM Tom_L: i wondered if you caught him in time
10:09 PM Tom_L: that's what i get for going out to the shop for 5 min
10:09 PM rue_shop3: I was floundering to get logged in
10:09 PM rue_shop3: I dont stay logged in
10:09 PM rue_shop3: or bother
10:10 PM Tom_L: got the pulley, now to do 2 couplers tomorrow
10:10 PM Tom_L: that indicated in nice

10:11 PM rue_shop3: yea
10:11 PM rue_shop3: 16krpm
10:11 PM Tom_L: i was told it would be too hard to control it
10:11 PM Tom_L: clothes washer though
10:11 PM rue_shop3: I ahve a controller but just a vfd
10:11 PM Tom_L: i had the control too
10:11 PM rue_shop3: oh wait
10:12 PM rue_shop3: ok it could have been a washing machine
10:12 PM rue_shop3: sometimes its hard to tell
10:12 PM rue_shop3: I ahve the controller
10:12 PM Tom_L: mine was off the last front loader i'll ever own
10:14 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:14 PM rue_shop3: what is the wattage on the sherline motor?
10:14 PM rue_shop3: about 180?
10:16 PM Tom_L: iirc .6 hp
10:17 PM rue_shop3: ~450w
10:17 PM Tom_L: @90v dc
10:18 PM rue_shop3: 5A sound about right?
10:18 PM Tom_L: i guess
10:20 PM rue_shop3: controller says 11A, implying about 1200w or more
10:23 PM * anonnumberanon is amused at the motor build attempt
10:23 PM anonnumberanon: if you can pull it off I will send you electronics
10:24 PM rue_shop3: ?
10:24 PM rue_shop3: I'm not building it
10:24 PM rue_shop3: I'm using it, its a brushless, maybe from a washing machine
10:24 PM rue_shop3: it can do 16krpm
10:24 PM anonnumberanon: well turning a junk motor into a capable cnc would be a feat
10:25 PM rue_shop3: the machine I built can only do 12.3k
10:25 PM anonnumberanon: *into a capable cnc spindle*
10:25 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, dude, thats what I do
10:25 PM anonnumberanon: :)
10:25 PM rue_shop3: didn't you notice?
10:25 PM rue_shop3: the motor I'm using now is from a cordless drill
10:25 PM rue_shop3: its fine
10:25 PM anonnumberanon: it's not fine
10:25 PM rue_shop3: building a controller for it was a snot
10:25 PM anonnumberanon: come on
10:26 PM rue_shop3: yea, its find, it runs more than enough torque for the 1mm bits
10:26 PM anonnumberanon: lol
10:26 PM rue_shop3: and has the rpm for them
10:26 PM anonnumberanon: 1mm bit...sigh
10:26 PM anonnumberanon: play with the big dogs my dude
10:26 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, you dont make all the details in those servo caps you want with a 1" augger
10:26 PM anonnumberanon: 1/4 inch at least
10:26 PM rue_shop3: not for your servo caps
10:27 PM rue_shop3: you want maybe 3mm at most
10:27 PM Tom_L: ok rue_mohr, which of these two would you say is better? http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Couplers.jpg
10:27 PM anonnumberanon: you're not gonna make them you've already decided
10:27 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, left
10:27 PM Tom_L: i tend to agree
10:27 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, no, its not a project I'm vested to invest the time into for you
10:28 PM Tom_L: my sherline uses solid couplers though and i've never had a problem with them
10:28 PM rue_shop3: and it has no value to me
10:29 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, how were you planning to do the detail inside that endcap with a 1/4" bit?
10:29 PM anonnumberanon: rue_shop3, are we not friends?
10:29 PM rue_shop3: I have too many of my own projects
10:30 PM anonnumberanon: I would love to receive such a one-off present from you.
10:30 PM rue_shop3: I'm willing to guide you down a road, but I cant walk with ya
10:30 PM anonnumberanon: Maybe I WILL keep it on the shelf, as an art piece, maybe I will use it and improve upon it or pick it as a base for my design, either way is good.
10:30 PM anonnumberanon: Either way has value to me.
10:31 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, you need to learn how to make a simple object and build a control file from it.
10:31 PM Tom_L: rue_shop3, i'm running. you need to hurry up and catch up
10:31 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, I would love to say that I'm only a few hours from finishing :) cause I have built the controller and have all the other parts togethor
10:31 PM rue_shop3: but I cant
10:31 PM rue_shop3: even tho I do
10:32 PM rue_shop3: I'm gaining shop space tho
10:32 PM rue_shop3: slowly
10:32 PM anonnumberanon: rue_shop3, yes, but I just don't want to do the things I'm more comfortable with first, such as electronics and software, I want to learn what I don't have experience with first.
10:32 PM anonnumberanon: We'll get to that.
10:32 PM Tom_L: you are on a positive path though
10:32 PM rue_shop3: I'll finish mine before anonnumberanon finishes unpacking from his move
10:32 PM anonnumberanon: haha damn
10:32 PM Tom_L: burn
10:33 PM anonnumberanon: i wish this was true and I actually get to move and get a better job
10:33 PM anonnumberanon: but I'll be drilling and tapping next week, building a workbench, getting accustomed to my new tools, i think I'm doing it.
10:34 PM anonnumberanon: See I could do this all day I don't lack motivation but I also have a project for work that I'm late on and I'm working on that a lot as well.
10:35 PM rue_shop3: anonnumberanon, your not just talking, I do admire that
10:35 PM rue_shop3: but open librecad and ask how to draw a god damned 20mm circle would ya?
10:36 PM rue_shop3: "dont be a garbage cant, be a garbage can"?
10:37 PM anonnumberanon: right now I'm debating whether or not to bring my welder with me to my parents' house
10:37 PM Tom_L: run down a bottle of gas for it
10:38 PM Tom_L: you can use co2 but i use argon/co2 mix
10:38 PM anonnumberanon: 75/25 argo/co2?
10:38 PM Tom_L: that's what i've got
10:38 PM anonnumberanon: k
10:38 PM anonnumberanon: so far iv been doing welds on exhaust pipes and they look alright
10:38 PM anonnumberanon: but I'm willing to try that gas thing
10:39 PM Tom_L: you're not gonna weld anything very heavy with that welder though
10:39 PM Tom_L: 1/4" is about the limit on mine
10:39 PM Tom_L: but i knew that when i got it
10:41 PM Tom_L: ok, i'll probably use the coupler on the left but i need to make a shim so i can tighten it down before i drill and ream it
10:41 PM anonnumberanon: Tom_L, i haven't seen the coupler on the right, on most decent machines.
10:41 PM anonnumberanon: I've seen the one on the right but not with screws like that, they are mostly inversed.
10:42 PM anonnumberanon: For the little rubber/urethane things, I haven't seen much of that either.
10:42 PM anonnumberanon: It feels like lack of rigidity to me but I'm really not sure.
10:43 PM anonnumberanon: Maybe that gets negated by the fact that the screw can move the ballscrew but the ballscrew can't move the screw. With very little backlash or none, it thus wouldn't be an issue.
10:44 PM rue_mohr: well I have a big spindle motor, this is sweet
10:44 PM Tom_L: 30 hp 3 phase honker?
10:44 PM anonnumberanon: oh damn you had $100 for aliexpress? that would have been enough for a Makita router
10:44 PM Tom_L: i ran some with motors like that
10:45 PM rue_mohr: that 3 phase brushless would run the MT2 spindle fine
10:46 PM rue_mohr: it'll need some rejigging for control
10:46 PM rue_mohr: whatever
10:47 PM rue_mohr: so Tom_L the sideload washer, door seal failure?
10:48 PM rue_mohr: or bearings?
10:48 PM anonnumberanon: i need you guys' opinion on a cnc frame
10:48 PM anonnumberanon: but i have to take a screenshot of a video of it
10:48 PM Tom_L: bearings
10:48 PM rue_mohr: for a 1 angstrom resolution?
10:48 PM Tom_L: multiple times
10:49 PM anonnumberanon: the asshole won't post a picture of it, only videos of parts of it
10:49 PM Tom_L: i drew my opinion of one
10:50 PM rue_mohr: you have less than an hour before I go to bed
10:50 PM rue_mohr: ok I need to remmeber not to have breakfast
10:50 PM Tom_L: you have less than that for me
10:50 PM Tom_L: why no breakfast?
10:51 PM Tom_L: gonna go to the dr?
10:51 PM rue_mohr: fast for bloodwork
10:51 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:51 PM * rue_mohr is having his blood worked on
10:51 PM Tom_L: pump it thru an oil filter and back in ... good to go
10:51 PM rue_mohr: right
10:51 PM rue_mohr: inverse osmosis, right?
10:52 PM Tom_L: it would be nice if he finished my parts before christmas
10:52 PM Tom_L: i'd have something to work on
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I got 0603 2k resistors....
10:52 PM rue_mohr: damn their small...
10:53 PM rue_mohr: oh you took it in?
10:53 PM Tom_L: that's what i used on the programmer
10:53 PM Tom_L: i told you i did
10:53 PM rue_mohr: I beleive you
10:53 PM rue_mohr: you did an awesome job
10:53 PM rue_mohr: I have to work on my toaster oven again
10:53 PM Tom_L: the screw and the the aluminum plate
10:53 PM rue_mohr: k
10:54 PM Tom_L: and i did do something tonight afterall
10:54 PM Tom_L: about 10 min worth but it still counts
10:54 PM anonnumberanon: here, that's his machine that looks interesting https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Klk6T1IBowU/maxresdefault.jpg
10:54 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:55 PM Tom_L: i don't want a gantry
10:55 PM rue_mohr: heh I got two of those
10:55 PM rue_mohr: hmm, interseting design
10:55 PM Tom_L: limits your box too much
10:55 PM Tom_L: yeah he used plenty of metal there
10:56 PM rue_mohr: its a tossup to move the motor or the upper gantry for z
10:56 PM Tom_L: he better cover up his rails
10:56 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna add a counter weight once i get it all figured out
10:56 PM Tom_L: wonder how much mig wire it will take to offset it :D
10:57 PM orlock: woo
10:57 PM orlock: just got handed a TDS 2024C DSO
10:57 PM anonnumberanon: if i can make something 1/7th as good as this machine I would be happy
10:58 PM Tom_L: that looks like ~1" tube
10:58 PM Tom_L: for the most part
10:58 PM rue_mohr: tom floor is 12" grid
10:58 PM anonnumberanon: orlock, free? nice

10:59 PM anonnumberanon: aha
10:59 PM orlock: anonnumberanon: asked to borrow an oscilloscope
10:59 PM orlock: anonnumberanon: i did get given a TDS5104 essentially free though
10:59 PM orlock: that was.. $150 from a broke startup
11:00 PM anonnumberanon: yeah, they went broke from doing that, not knowing the value of things! :)
11:00 PM orlock: anonnumberanon: my employer used to share a parnt company with Tek and Fluke up intil a year or so ago
11:00 PM orlock: they went broke by being dodgy scumbags
11:00 PM anonnumberanon: which usually goes hand in hand yeah
11:01 PM orlock: the guys that were behind it are now trying to do "revolutionary solar cells"
11:01 PM rue_mohr: the frame design is pretty elaborate, I cant see much that didn't get thought of
11:01 PM orlock: they stick a lense in front of them to focus the light
11:01 PM rue_mohr: except elegance
11:01 PM orlock: and rotate the solar panels to stop them melting
11:01 PM anonnumberanon: orlock, have you seen cool bots today?
11:01 PM rue_mohr: its lacking a lot of that
11:02 PM orlock: anonnumberanon: every day!
11:02 PM orlock: thats what they do here
11:02 PM orlock: though the "cool" can be debatable
11:02 PM anonnumberanon: rue_mohr, he's german lol
11:02 PM rue_mohr: orlock, hey
11:02 PM rue_mohr: your company does medical machiines right?
11:02 PM orlock: rue_mohr: yup
11:02 PM rue_mohr: do they use brushless motors in centrefuges?
11:03 PM rue_mohr: I got a brushless washing machine motor, wondering if I can find anything better from the scrap closet at the hospital
11:03 PM rue_mohr: (for cnc spindle)
11:04 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, he has no cooling provision of any kind tho
11:04 PM orlock: Heh, unsure
11:04 PM orlock: we make tissue processors
11:04 PM orlock: another company does the centriguges
11:04 PM rue_mohr: hmm, its th only thing I can think of that might use a large brushless
11:05 PM anonnumberanon: rue_mohr, that's true, probably because by the looks of things he doesn't like messy stuff, but that'll become an issue
11:05 PM rue_mohr: hmm I wonder what the brasn of that machien I stripped down was
11:05 PM orlock: rue_mohr: and our gear is mor elikely to get serviced than thrown out
11:06 PM rue_mohr: I just use air on my machines, a puff timer to keep chips off the work area
11:06 PM rue_mohr: yea, it all gets obsolete tho
11:06 PM rue_mohr: I think is was a siemens au....
11:06 PM rue_mohr: oh like a fluid test machie
11:07 PM orlock: yesh, they are Not Us
11:07 PM rue_mohr: holds about 100 test tubes?
11:07 PM orlock: but it will likely be top notch gear
11:07 PM rue_mohr: its got great stuff
11:07 PM orlock: Beckman is ours
11:07 PM rue_mohr: its got HP motion controllers
11:07 PM anonnumberanon: I'm tempted to use the same geometry
11:08 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, when you heat air, it ____________________________

11:10 PM anonnumberanon: sigh, okay let's look at weld warpage now
11:11 PM rue_mohr: when the air in a sealed pipe is heated, the pressure in that pipe will ______________________
11:11 PM anonnumberanon: increases
11:11 PM orlock: bullshit it's sealed, you left some pinholes.
11:11 PM Tom_L: it's why they put holes somewhere
11:11 PM rue_mohr: trying to weld a pipe closed, that is filled with expending air, will cause your frustration level to ______________________
11:12 PM Tom_L: fill it with water first
11:12 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, ^?
11:12 PM Tom_L: i think he's given up on you
11:13 PM anonnumberanon: im thinking
11:13 PM rue_mohr: crap, he's one question away from an a+
11:13 PM anonnumberanon: im a little weird i like when things don't work heh
11:13 PM anonnumberanon: so i don't know if id be more frustrated
11:13 PM rue_mohr: think on it, molten metal, air pressure behind it
11:14 PM Tom_L: ya just gotta be tricky when you do it
11:14 PM Tom_L: or don't do it and put a vent hole in it
11:14 PM rue_mohr: ok F-
11:14 PM anonnumberanon: i still passed right?
11:14 PM rue_mohr: anyhow, drill a hole in pipe when doing welind on it that ties to close it off
11:14 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, sure, thre are no failing grades
11:15 PM anonnumberanon: my father donates to the university, be cool
11:15 PM rue_mohr: and F- is nothing to be ashamed of
11:15 PM mrdata: until the air doesnt blow, it sucks
11:16 PM Tom_L: ok, this day is done for me
11:16 PM Tom_L: gnite
11:19 PM rue_mohr: orlock, whats the blood analizing machine called?
11:24 PM rue_mohr: its got a reagent system and a colour optical system and a bunch of testtube holdes and pippettes
11:24 PM rue_mohr: fluid heaters and coolers...
11:27 PM anonnumberanon: i see my japanese friend is posting more details about his robot it's really neat https://twitter.com/leghornsroom
11:28 PM anonnumberanon: he got my oscilloscope heh :)
11:28 PM anonnumberanon: must be trying to make his own servo controller
11:28 PM rue_mohr: what wwas he using as a loop controller?
11:28 PM orlock: rue_mohr" Um, dunno, depends on the brand and what it does i guess?
11:29 PM rue_mohr: I'm all frustrated I cant remember
11:29 PM anonnumberanon: i don't want to ask him what motors he is using yet but I will
11:29 PM rue_mohr: I tore it all apart
11:29 PM orlock: rue_mohr: Radiometer is a company that makes them
11:29 PM anonnumberanon: he's got 4 or 5 laying there on the table :)
11:29 PM rue_mohr: cant find the labels
11:29 PM orlock: another part of the Borg
11:29 PM anonnumberanon: man this makes me happy
11:30 PM anonnumberanon: he's the guy that got me wanting to build a CNC
11:30 PM rue_mohr: orlock, are all the optic systems made byt eh same folks?
11:30 PM anonnumberanon: rue he was using that japanese made servo driver
11:31 PM orlock: rue_mohr: nah they are a different company
11:31 PM orlock: the survey gear is a different company as well
11:31 PM orlock: well, depends if you mean scopes or camera
11:31 PM anonnumberanon: modified it a bit for more current but he said he wante d to make his own, i guess he's using a PIC micro judging from the serial programmer laying there on the table
11:31 PM rue_mohr: anonnumberanon, I wonder if its the commercialized openservo
11:32 PM anonnumberanon: rue_mohr, i don't remember, it was using a weird chip, i could find out from all the pics i saved
11:32 PM * anonnumberanon does so
11:37 PM anonnumberanon: found it, NXP
11:38 PM anonnumberanon: nxp lpc 2148
11:40 PM anonnumberanon: with a bunch of texas instruments hj238 as decoders or something
11:40 PM orlock: heh
11:41 PM orlock: autoranging on this DSO was picking up high frequency noise
11:41 PM orlock: lots of tiny "blips" but no sustained on/off pulses
11:41 PM orlock: had to scale out out out out
11:41 PM orlock: to se the "big" stepper pulses
11:57 PM anonnumberanon: "It is a model that I first participated in the robot competition by wirelessly steering the prototype biped walking unit I made the very first.
