01:38 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I am pretty sure the code works. I have had this same code working as an alarm clock for months
03:44 AM Jak_o_Shadows: ok. Can confirm, the osc is not working.
03:44 AM Jak_o_Shadows: the other board in which it doesn't work, the power regulation is all sorts ofnot graet
05:49 AM edmoore: what's it like on this current board Jak_o_Shadows?
05:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: just doesn't really work
05:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I'll show some oscillosocpe screen grabs tomorrow
09:01 AM rue_bed: I had a dream that a 1980 production part of my norco bike broke and I realized it was 3d printed
09:02 AM durrf: well 3d printing started in the 70s or some shit
09:29 AM SpeedEvil: You can argue reasonably that some forms of welding are 3d printing
09:40 AM robotustra: hi
09:58 AM rue_mohr: huh
09:58 AM rue_mohr: it looks like taig milling machine were specificially desgiend to be cnc modified
09:58 AM rue_mohr: there are no manuals for non-cnc machines
10:26 AM edmoore: it does
10:26 AM edmoore: i thought that when looking at it the other day
10:26 AM edmoore: new ones even have ground ballscrews or something?
10:30 AM SpeedEvil: Maybe also the prices of CNCish parts has crashed below conventional, due to the 3d printing explosion
10:32 AM edmoore: i can't see how that especially follows
10:34 AM SpeedEvil: Probably not.
01:07 PM DagoRed is now known as KalmanFilter
01:07 PM KalmanFilter is now known as DagoRed
01:57 PM i-make-robots: ola
01:57 PM i-make-robots: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba68yt6AKv8
06:12 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I remember seeing recent attempts to 3d print with welders
06:16 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
09:21 PM rue_bed: Jak_o_Shadows, how were they doing?
09:26 PM evilroot: Can't see that working well
09:49 PM Jak_o_Shadows: not terribly well
09:49 PM Jak_o_Shadows: it was literally a delta with a mig
09:55 PM Jak_o_Shadows: they kept get criticised cause the crystal structure of the part is terribad
10:20 PM evilroot: Yep
10:43 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Ok. christmas lights controller board 1 made
10:43 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Literally 3 fets, 3 header pins, and 2 screw terminals
10:54 PM Jak_o_Shadows: hmm. any ideas how to cut a 1mm by 70mm long trench in a plastic cutting bard? 2ish mm deep
10:56 PM SpeedEvil: 1mm wide or long
10:56 PM SpeedEvil: actually, nvm
10:57 PM SpeedEvil: Take a flat-bladed screwdriver, with a 1mm tip on the edge, that is sharp, and a steel rule. Run the edge of the screwdriver along the steel rule with the flat in line with the rule
10:58 PM SpeedEvil: repeat several times.
10:58 PM SpeedEvil: Or you may have better results if you form a sharp cutting tool from a nail or something of that rough form
10:58 PM SpeedEvil: but with all front edges sharp
10:59 PM Jak_o_Shadows: pulling or pushing?
10:59 PM SpeedEvil: Pulling is more controllable
10:59 PM rue_shop3: step 1, put 1mm bit in cnc machine
10:59 PM SpeedEvil: If you don't care about the profile, then simply a nail will work
10:59 PM rue_shop3: step 2, grap cnc machine pendant...
10:59 PM SpeedEvil: or that, yes
10:59 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha. Yes, well.
10:59 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I thought about using a table saw, but a) I don't have one
11:00 PM rue_shop3: step 3, screw an NC file, just use the pendant to cut the line!
11:00 PM SpeedEvil: If it can be more than 1mm wide, a table saw or small circular saw
11:00 PM Jak_o_Shadows: The idea is to hold PCBS
11:00 PM rue_shop3: plan B, turn on 3d printer
11:01 PM rue_shop3: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:598762
11:01 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Instead of putting rods along the length of the PCB stack, I was/am planning on putting slots in 2 bits of stuff, and clamping together
11:01 PM rue_shop3: ^^^^
11:01 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Something like that print would work.
11:02 PM Jak_o_Shadows: But it seems like it might be simpler to cut the slots :P
11:02 PM rue_shop3: less you have to build a cnc first
11:02 PM rue_shop3: if you start printing now...
11:03 PM rue_shop3: god I just cant understand how that fan grille is so freaking popular
11:03 PM Jak_o_Shadows: well, precision isn't all that necessary.
11:03 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
11:03 PM rue_shop3: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:706812
11:03 PM rue_shop3: 11 made, which means is prolly 110
11:06 PM SpeedEvil: rue_shop3: 11 finished, 110 print attempts?
11:07 PM rue_shop3: hahahaha, maybe
11:07 PM rue_shop3: I think its a pretty good printer
11:07 PM rue_shop3: 1886 downloads
11:07 PM evilroot: Jak_o_Shadows: a router and stragitedge?
11:09 PM * evilroot is still trying to think of a good use for these actuators
11:09 PM Jak_o_Shadows: evilroot, dunno if itneeds to be taht deep
11:09 PM evilroot: You could make it however deep you want
11:10 PM rue_shop3: I made one in the time it took to talk about it on my cnc machine
11:10 PM evilroot: With the right jig a rotary too would work too
11:10 PM rue_shop3: its only 1mm, which is no good for anything, cause the baords are 1/16" thick, but there
11:10 PM rue_shop3: it'd take me 4x as long to post a pic of it
11:11 PM evilroot: heh
11:11 PM rue_shop3: I didn't use a nc file, I just used the pendant, its a freaking straight line...
11:11 PM rue_shop3: now you make one
11:11 PM * rue_shop3 passes Jak_o_Shadows the ball
11:11 PM * rue_shop3 goes to get a tea
11:12 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha. When I have, i'll take pics
11:12 PM rue_shop3: I can ship it to you Jak_o_Shadows it'll cost $50 to ship and be there in 3 weeks
11:12 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ahahah
11:12 PM rue_shop3: (this is canada)
11:12 PM Jak_o_Shadows: blasted shipping
11:14 PM rue_shop3: to bad we dont have replicators eh?
11:14 PM rue_shop3: OH WAIT
11:14 PM * rue_shop3 points at Jak_o_Shadows reprap
11:14 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ahahaha
11:15 PM * evilroot has 3d printers as well
11:15 PM evilroot: Working on an extra large one :-D
11:15 PM rue_shop3: now, if I just had a bottomless teacup
11:15 PM rue_shop3: evilroot, bought or made?
11:15 PM rue_shop3: I made 2
11:16 PM rue_shop3: I'd have made 2 more, but MY SHOP IS OUT OF SPACE
11:16 PM evilroot: I've built 11
11:16 PM evilroot: Most I sold
11:16 PM rue_shop3: so I'm clearing space in the back livingroom of the house
11:16 PM rue_shop3: nice
11:16 PM rue_shop3: I was given 2 relay racks from the hospital
11:16 PM evilroot: I've also repaired a dozen or so, and maintain the 4 at my local hackerspace
11:16 PM rue_shop3: I should be able to fit 3ea on them
11:17 PM evilroot: I'm working on my own original design
11:17 PM rue_shop3: :/ 4 groups have tried to start hackspaces here, everyone failed
11:17 PM evilroot: Based on what I've learned over 10 years
11:17 PM rue_shop3: there aren't enough people and almost everyone has their own shop
11:17 PM evilroot: Its really urban here so hard for people to have their own shops
11:18 PM evilroot: I do, a bit outside of town
11:18 PM rue_shop3: yea, thats the difference we worked out
11:18 PM rue_shop3: I'd love a 4000 sq foot warehouse with a mezz suite
11:18 PM rue_shop3: *sigh*
11:19 PM rue_shop3: thats prolly what I'd do if I won a lottery
11:19 PM rue_shop3: fill it with new equip
11:19 PM * rue_shop3 droools
11:19 PM rue_shop3: but I dont win lotteries
11:20 PM rue_shop3: I can pick great winners for others, if its for me, bupkiss
11:20 PM evilroot: I have about 1200sq ft office space and a bunch of warehouse space
11:20 PM Tom_L: all but a few pieces cut out tonight
11:20 PM evilroot: Building is old as hell but I like it
11:20 PM rue_shop3: lets see lets see!
11:20 PM Tom_L: i think all the square tube iscut
11:21 PM Tom_L: i was gonna set it up to take a pic but it all wouldn't stand up by itself without metal glue
11:21 PM Tom_L: and i didn't wanna drag that out tonight
11:21 PM rue_shop3: tommorow is a whole day
11:22 PM Tom_L: it is?
11:22 PM Tom_L: sunday is a day plus an hour
11:22 PM rue_shop3: oooo
11:22 PM rue_shop3: i forgot
11:22 PM rue_shop3: clock automata
11:24 PM evilroot: I plan to use my robots to mill 3d printers
11:24 PM * evilroot cackles evilly
11:25 PM Jak_o_Shadows: ok. moved to shed
11:26 PM rue_shop3: evilroot, do you have any cnc machines currently?
11:26 PM evilroot: Yes, three
11:26 PM rue_shop3: what software toolchain do you use?
11:26 PM evilroot: And technically the giant wood carving one that the guys who own the building have, I'm free to use it
11:27 PM rue_shop3: I'm using librecad -> bamcam -> custom spooler (python) ->grbl
11:28 PM evilroot: I run my bots with LinuxCNC
11:31 PM evilroot: I generally don't do my own CAD because I suck at it, heh
11:31 PM Tom_L: pics coming
11:31 PM evilroot: I have a buddy that does it in exchange for me milling his stuff
11:31 PM evilroot: PyCam to make the gcode
11:34 PM rue_shop3: hmm, didn't have any success with pycam
11:34 PM rue_shop3: I'm only doing 2.5d tho
11:37 PM rue_shop3: ! there's tea in it this time!
11:37 PM rue_shop3: sweet
11:37 PM rue_shop3: evilroot, the printers, bowden or feeder on carrige?
11:38 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/
11:39 PM rue_shop3: nice
11:39 PM rue_shop3: nothing that peice is a project
11:39 PM rue_shop3: notching
11:39 PM Tom_L: not so much
11:39 PM rue_shop3: hah, the pencil is good scale
11:39 PM Tom_L: 30" base
11:40 PM Tom_L: 16" riser iirc
11:40 PM rue_shop3: :) thats "big"
11:40 PM rue_shop3: I have to find a todo list
11:40 PM Tom_L: it'll fit on the bench i hope
11:41 PM Tom_L: new steppers are all wired and tested now too
11:42 PM rue_shop3: nice
11:42 PM Tom_L: the piece on top of the Z risers is the brace but i put it there to show how Z will look
11:42 PM rue_shop3: what power supply you using?
11:42 PM Tom_L: i still need to cut the plate for the mounts
11:42 PM Tom_L: same one i used on the sherline
11:42 PM Tom_L: the whole box will get moved to the new one eventually
11:43 PM Tom_L: pretty much ready to go
11:43 PM Tom_L: i need to find a plate for X
11:43 PM Tom_L: i found some but i'm not sure what size i want to make it
11:44 PM Tom_L: 9x30 or 8x24 or something inbetween
11:44 PM rue_shop3: I been watching youtube fab vids,
11:44 PM rue_shop3: everything looks great till someone points out that the 25 min video was taken over 2.5 years
11:45 PM rue_shop3: then its just like 8-O thats all ya got done?
11:46 PM Tom_L: took me all evening the other day to find the spool of wire i got to wire the steppers
11:46 PM Tom_L: turns out it was right where i put it
11:47 PM rue_shop3: and the last place you looked?
11:47 PM Tom_L: exactly
11:47 PM rue_shop3: (always true if you stop looking when you find something)
11:48 PM Tom_L: sanding all that paint off is taking a while
11:49 PM Tom_L: i may make the slot tomorrow if i get time to work on it
11:51 PM Tom_L: i wonder if i need one more 2" brace at the front end of the base
11:56 PM evilroot: rue_shop3: most I've build were direct feed
11:56 PM evilroot: But now I use only Bowden
11:56 PM evilroot: I think its a superior design
11:57 PM evilroot: And lets you have far less weight on your carriage which allows greater travel speed as well as easier to mount multiple extruders
11:58 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, sand blaster :$30 having one: priceless
11:59 PM rue_shop3: evilroot, after making a bowden I'v had it with them, changing plastic is horrid
