12:14 AM rue_shop3: I just came up with a stupid idea and I'm gonna try casting a concrete cnc
12:17 AM rue_shop3: seeing as my current approach is to make a stupid-sturdy C frame and put adjusted axies on it
02:29 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Fo positionign in controlled spaces, I would use the HTC vive nowadays
02:31 AM Jak_o_Shadows: theyr'e meant to be expanding it to much much bigger rooms as well
02:32 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It'll be a game changer for research
02:32 AM Jak_o_Shadows: no more fussing about with IMU's
02:48 AM edmoore: i really like fussing with IMUs
02:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Yeah. but if you can get good quality 6DOF data easily, and that's what you want, why would you use an IMU
02:50 AM Jak_o_Shadows: IMU is what you'd use if you wanted rates or acceleratio
02:51 AM edmoore: yes quite true, we never really did much IMU stuff when doing indoor slam at my old research lab either
02:51 AM edmoore: we always assumed the attitude was sat quietly on the floor, and so a lidar was plenty
02:54 AM edmoore: i actually joined this irc channel yesterday to see if indoor lidars had moved on much since i did this about 8 years ago at my old lab
02:54 AM edmoore: turns out now, still that old huyoko unit
02:54 AM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
02:54 AM edmoore: turns out 'no', i meant
02:54 AM Jak_o_Shadows: That's if you want SLAM.
02:54 AM Jak_o_Shadows: It's kinda a shame though
02:55 AM Jak_o_Shadows: the htc vive things are a good part of what you need for some cases.
02:55 AM edmoore: yes sure, it was just slam in a nice happy controlled environment
02:56 AM edmoore: we then did some realtime 3d reconstruction with a video camera and an imu, but that was a bit of a pig. the world of sensors has moved on a lot since then
03:10 AM z64555: it's the same sensors, but they've added on-board processors to do much of the calculation gruntwork
03:15 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Which is the cool thing! Why have people constantly reinventing the same damn thing, when they can go and do their core interesting thing>?
03:24 AM z64555: yup
08:50 AM rue_bed: thats what people do
08:50 AM rue_bed: from macros that set the state of a pin to hd447880 libraries
09:07 AM deshipu: people gonna peop
09:29 AM rue_mohr: hah
10:13 AM rue_mohr: I'm getting carried away again, I'm dealing with 4m bits here, and I'm not hogging out steel
10:13 AM rue_mohr: but casting a concrete frame for a mill is getting me all excited
10:13 AM rue_mohr: arg
10:14 AM rue_mohr: what about the I beams I got you?
10:14 AM rue_mohr: your right, I can cast concrete around them!
10:15 AM rue_mohr: ... ...
10:16 AM rue_mohr: that frame you drew is gonna weigh like 150lbs ya know
10:16 AM SpeedEvil: A 4m mill?
10:16 AM rue_mohr: but I like it
10:17 AM rue_mohr: ?
10:17 AM rue_mohr: upright mill
10:17 AM rue_mohr: make a master C from concrete
10:17 AM rue_mohr: and steel
10:18 AM rue_mohr: or just use the STEEL I GOT FOR MAKING ONE
10:18 AM veverak: lol
10:19 AM rue_mohr: I'm still torn on what to use for sliders without breaking the $20 budget
10:20 AM veverak: maybe I've got that jenkins working!
10:21 AM deshipu: you became a yaml programmer?
10:21 AM veverak: nope
10:21 AM veverak: just need ros build farm
10:21 AM veverak: ehmm
10:25 AM veverak: anyway, was thinking that being able to use some build farm is nice skill
10:43 AM veverak: jenkisn master online, need more slaves
10:46 AM deshipu: don't we all
11:15 AM veverak: exactly!

01:28 PM i-make-robots: making progress...
01:29 PM durrf: nice
01:30 PM durrf: what is it gonna be used for
01:43 PM i-make-robots: everything.
01:44 PM i-make-robots: 50cm reach, 2kg payload, <1mm repeatability is the goal.
01:44 PM i-make-robots: then use it to assemble copies of itself.
02:44 PM edmoore: lovely work i-make-robots
03:30 PM robotustra: hi
03:55 PM i-make-robots: i need a plastic enclosure for the electronics that's quite large - 13"x9"x4". any idea where to get it? 20 minutes on google and so far nothing.
03:55 PM i-make-robots: all results typically <5"
04:32 PM anonnumberanon: what the hell upgrading my operating system turned off irc, now I have probably lost BILLIONS of logs
04:40 PM robotustra: i-make-robots, make it yourself?
04:40 PM robotustra: i-make-robots, or use case from old computer
04:42 PM robotustra: it's about 15x15x7"
04:42 PM robotustra: or slim tower
04:42 PM robotustra: is about of size you are looking for
04:43 PM robotustra: anonnumberanon, what do you do with logs?
04:44 PM anonnumberanon: robotustra, it's kind of a geek greed joke
04:44 PM anonnumberanon: don't think too much into it
04:45 PM robotustra: as soon as I'm not a geek I didn't got humor :)
04:45 PM climbing_up: Oh hey i-make-robots , I was the one that asked you on Reddit about LIDARs
04:54 PM robotustra: any russians in here?
04:55 PM robotustra: if (native_language == RUSSIAN) { join("#robots-ru"); }
05:03 PM robotustra: in case you have problems with expression in english
05:03 PM robotustra: nothing personal
05:20 PM * anonnumberanon flings logs at robotustra, finally a use for them
05:39 PM i-make-robots: found one at Hammond.
10:51 PM evilroot: Well that fight was disappointing as hell
11:30 PM rue_bed: hmm, something odd happened
11:45 PM ace4016: that fight was indeed lame
