12:04 AM orlock: rue_more: Not sure what you mean?
12:06 AM orlock: physical balancers?
12:21 AM SpeedEvil: rue_more: look at patents from the era
12:21 AM SpeedEvil: http://rsta.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/366/1866/705
12:33 AM rue_more: similarities to the human brain
03:05 AM Jak_o_Shadows: SpeedEvil, anniepoo (whos is not online) - the rigid body stuff just didn't seem to be stable. I had a simple rig, and it just grew unstable
08:56 AM rue_bed: unstable? crash or bad rotations
08:56 AM rue_bed: ?
09:02 AM robotustra: tsglove? what is this?
09:03 AM tsglove: robotustra, yes.
09:03 AM robotustra: is it a device?
09:05 AM robotustra: what does "ts" mean?
09:13 AM rue_more: translate/scale?
09:18 AM robotustra: dunno
09:18 AM robotustra: I know what is dataglove
09:19 AM robotustra: I finished one
09:20 AM robotustra: for work, now I have to do lighter version for myself
09:20 AM robotustra: to control avatar
09:22 AM rue_more: http://old.cescg.org/CESCG-2000/OSchoenbrunner/glove.gif
09:32 AM robotustra: does it work?
09:32 AM robotustra: I can make my DG haptic
09:33 AM robotustra: this one is just an input device
09:35 AM robotustra: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6W33DRMzKC4V05Tcm42dFBNcnc
04:49 PM anniepoo: 8cD So, sbought a roll of 'flexible PLA', am having troublke getting it to feed
04:49 PM anniepoo: Tried it first on our normal PLA settings - 210C
04:51 PM anniepoo: doesn't seem to feed.
04:51 PM anniepoo: I try reducing temp to 190
04:51 PM anniepoo: then I try swapping back to ordinary pla to make sure that still feeds (haven't clogged nozzle) and it does
04:52 PM anniepoo: I considerably tighten the feed pressure screw, and now it has indentations from the gear, but still doesn't feed
04:52 PM anniepoo: ideas?
05:06 PM robotustra: PLA works from 210 to 230
05:12 PM z64555: maybe try putting more bend on it?
05:13 PM z64555: like pulling on a wet rope
05:14 PM anniepoo: more bend?
05:15 PM anniepoo: are you suggesting modifying my extruder?
05:16 PM z64555: no
05:16 PM z64555: move the coil of PLA so that the feeder has more contact with it
05:16 PM z64555: if that makes sense
05:17 PM anniepoo: now I understand what you mean
05:17 PM * z64555 has no idea what he's doing
05:17 PM anniepoo: but my feeder's got a top guide
05:18 PM anniepoo: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/5/4/2/9/5/webimg/832560349_o.jpg
05:18 PM anniepoo: pretty much my extruder
05:20 PM z64555: oh, your feeder is right next to the extruder
05:20 PM z64555: well that idea won't work then
05:20 PM anniepoo: yes, it's a direct feed
05:20 PM anniepoo: no bowden tube
05:21 PM anniepoo: you know, this lists speed at 20-40, I'm going to try turning down speed
05:21 PM anniepoo: brb
05:37 PM annieonprinter: =8cP
05:48 PM rue_more: that heatsink dosn't make sense
05:48 PM rue_more: and the heaters not connected
05:48 PM rue_more: which is good, caue the sensor isn't either
05:48 PM rue_more: but the extruder motors not connected, so...
05:49 PM rue_more: it also looks like the X motor isn't connected
06:06 PM anniepoo: that's not my unit
06:06 PM anniepoo: but is similar construction
06:07 PM anniepoo: rue, you got any ideas?
06:25 PM JT-Shopp is now known as JT-Shop
06:25 PM robotustra: strange printer, wires below the nozzle
06:28 PM durrf2: lol they are not run yet
06:28 PM durrf2: you can see the ends of the heater's wires
06:28 PM robotustra: not connected?
06:29 PM durrf2: yeah
06:29 PM durrf2: they are bundled as they came from china from the looks of it
06:29 PM robotustra: yeah, and termister is also not connected
06:29 PM durrf2: yup
06:29 PM robotustra: anniepoo: connect the hot end
06:30 PM robotustra: wire it
06:31 PM durrf2: "why isnt my printer working?"
06:31 PM Tom_L: put paper in it
06:32 PM anniepoo: paper?
06:33 PM anniepoo: yah, I just grabbed that image off the iggynet
06:33 PM robotustra: ah, anniepoo ignored me, so tell her to wire hotend
06:33 PM anniepoo: @Tom_L paper?
06:34 PM robotustra: no need to go to circus when there are clowns in the channel
06:36 PM robotustra: G
06:40 PM * rue_more folds his arms and looks cross
06:40 PM anniepoo: 8cD
06:40 PM rue_more: annieonprinter, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute, the WHOLE extruder is held to the printer BY THE MOTOR!?
06:40 PM * anniepoo wonders if it'd be politic to go take a proper pic
06:41 PM anniepoo: hang on - I'm getting a proper pic
06:41 PM rue_more: I got a wifi 'card' and dongle for my camera
06:42 PM rue_more: soon I hope to have "take picture to internet" capability
06:43 PM anniepoo: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXoZoWnjHZc/?taken-by=anneogborn
06:43 PM anniepoo: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXoZlrWD3dc/?taken-by=anneogborn
06:44 PM rue_more: no blanket?
06:44 PM rue_more: aluminum deck?
06:44 PM rue_more: filament is going in at a funny angle?...
06:45 PM Tom_L: blew the SSR board last night
06:45 PM anniepoo: 'no blanket'
06:45 PM Tom_L: used the copper trace for a fuse
06:45 PM rue_more: Tom_L, ?
06:45 PM rue_more: did you short soemthing?
06:45 PM anniepoo: it's true, it came with no insulation on the block
06:45 PM Tom_L: was working on my spindle orient code
06:45 PM Tom_L: i dunno if the ssr just gave up or what
06:45 PM rue_more: using that funyn 50% forward/reverse thing?
06:46 PM anniepoo: filament seems to be feeding in in normal way
06:46 PM Tom_L: it was a simple s200 M3 command
06:46 PM Tom_L: nothing fancy
06:46 PM Tom_L: i thought i blew the whole drive at first
06:46 PM rue_more: but was the driver using your pwm between forward and reverse to orient the apindle?
06:46 PM Tom_L: still not sure but the board looks ok
06:46 PM anniepoo: I've tried adjusting the tension screw on the drive
06:47 PM Tom_L: it can only go one direction
06:47 PM rue_more: annieonprinter, looks like a descent printer
06:47 PM anniepoo: 8cD
06:47 PM rue_more: is it giving your trouble?
06:47 PM anniepoo: well, I bought some flexible PLA
06:47 PM anniepoo: and it's not feeding
06:47 PM anniepoo: so I'm trying to figure out why
06:48 PM rue_more: have you ever used it on abs?
06:48 PM Tom_L: not hungry?
06:48 PM anniepoo: works like a champ on PLA
06:48 PM anniepoo: no, haven't tried ABS
06:48 PM rue_more: are you sure the temp is right for the new stuff?
06:48 PM anniepoo: I've tried both ends and center of man. recommended range
06:48 PM Tom_L: is it more rubbery than regular PLA?
06:48 PM anniepoo: yes, it is
06:48 PM Tom_L: nothing to grip, it will slip easy
06:49 PM rue_more: try backing off the pressure?!
06:49 PM anniepoo: backing off?
06:49 PM Tom_L: increase pressure
06:49 PM rue_more: yea, maybe its squishing it too much?
06:49 PM Tom_L: there.
06:49 PM Tom_L: take your pick
06:49 PM anniepoo: I've tried increasing
06:49 PM Tom_L: use a soldering iron and see which one melts quicker
06:50 PM anniepoo: I know the temp's reasonable because I can (sometimes) hand feed it by pushing down on it
06:50 PM Tom_L: more surface area on the feed grip
06:50 PM Tom_L: larger diameter
06:50 PM anniepoo: by pushing down on the loading lever, then manually feeding, it does extrude reasonably
06:51 PM Tom_L: is it a 8mm bolt?
06:51 PM anniepoo: is what an 8mm bolt?
06:51 PM Tom_L: the feeder
06:51 PM anniepoo: this is a purchased extruder
06:51 PM anniepoo: it's the one that came with kit
06:51 PM Tom_L: oh well no wonder...
06:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/reprap/drive5.jpg
06:52 PM Tom_L: you need some big ones like that
06:52 PM anniepoo: ah
06:52 PM anniepoo: I'm sure mine's smaller
06:52 PM rue_more: tom
06:52 PM rue_more: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-MK8-extruder-aluminum-block-DIY-kit-Makerbot-dedicated-single-nozzle-extrusion-head-aluminum-block/32351220044.html
06:53 PM Tom_L: rue
06:53 PM rue_more: its that extruder
06:53 PM rue_more: its like a wire feed welder
06:53 PM anniepoo: yes
06:53 PM Tom_L: is the ball bearing the feed?
06:53 PM Tom_L: or the brass gear
06:54 PM Tom_L: ... both
06:54 PM anniepoo: brass gear's on the stepper's shaft
06:54 PM anniepoo: the 'ball bearing' turns freely
06:54 PM Tom_L: crank it down til it squeals
06:54 PM anniepoo: ok, I tried most of the way
06:54 PM Tom_L: that fits a nema17?
06:55 PM anniepoo: I'll be more agressive
06:55 PM rue_more: yea
06:55 PM Tom_L: nice feeder
06:55 PM rue_more: or the extra torquey one they use cause they didn't gear it
06:55 PM rue_more: real extruders are geared....
06:55 PM Tom_L: i can't make one of those for $2.88
06:56 PM rue_more: no
06:56 PM anniepoo: shifting to the printer to try it
06:56 PM rue_more: thats chinas job
06:56 PM Tom_L: it may just squish the filament
06:56 PM rue_more: <rue_more> try backing off the pressure?!
06:56 PM rue_more: <anniepoo> backing off?
06:56 PM rue_more: <Tom_L> increase pressure
06:56 PM rue_more: <rue_more> yea, maybe its squishing it too much?
06:57 PM Tom_L: need power feed on both sides
06:57 PM Tom_L: not just a bearing
06:57 PM Tom_L: i bet that would improve the design
06:57 PM Tom_L: get some vcr engineer to design it
06:57 PM Tom_L: god knows they have some complicated crap in em
06:59 PM Tom_L: i bet if they got the fulcrum right they could put a gear on the stepper and drive 2 gears with it
06:59 PM Tom_L: one would be going the wrong direction though
06:59 PM Tom_L: need an idler gear
07:02 PM Tom_L: it looks like unscrewing that increases the tension on the filament
07:02 PM annieonprinter: so, I completely screwed the screw in
07:03 PM annieonprinter: (max pressure on filament)
07:03 PM annieonprinter: I'd been leaving about 4mm out
07:03 PM annieonprinter: and it's feeding
07:03 PM Tom_L: does unscrewing it increase tension?
07:03 PM Tom_L: that's what it looks like
07:04 PM Tom_L: the more open the spring is, the tighter it pushes the pulley to the gear
07:04 PM annieonprinter: no, screwing it in increased the tension
07:04 PM annieonprinter: spring puts pressure up on lever
07:05 PM Tom_L: i'm just looking at the fulcrum
07:05 PM annieonprinter: lever's hinged, it moves the 'ball bearing' in towards gear
07:05 PM Tom_L: and that's what i saw
07:05 PM annieonprinter: well, it's real obvious which way it increases if you're at the machine
07:05 PM Tom_L: so is it working now?
07:05 PM annieonprinter: it seems to be
07:06 PM annieonprinter: I just wasn't aggressive enough with tightening the pressure
07:06 PM annieonprinter: I have it absolutely maxed out
07:06 PM annieonprinter: might even put a longer screw in
07:07 PM Tom_L: just make sure the pulley doesn't touch the gear or you've maxed it out
07:07 PM annieonprinter: right
07:07 PM annieonprinter: of course the heat sink over it makes it impossible to see
07:08 PM annieonprinter: I've been thinking about converting to dual extruder. If I do that, I'll dedicate one extruder to pva and use it to print this stuff
07:09 PM annieonprinter: I can make a new 'ball bearing' that's a smidge larger
07:09 PM Tom_L: why would you need to?
07:10 PM annieonprinter: more pressure without 'bottoming out'
07:10 PM annieonprinter: this looks like it's happy
07:10 PM Tom_L: just grind down the top edge a bit
07:11 PM Tom_L: that'll let it get closer
07:11 PM annieonprinter: well, if I just want to move it, I can just use a longer screw
07:11 PM annieonprinter: ah, I see - yes, can do that
07:12 PM annieonprinter: well, crummy print, but it did print
07:13 PM annieonprinter: and it's a rubbery material
07:13 PM rue_more: hmm
07:15 PM anniepoo: I turned off retraction because it's a rubbery material, which is what I'd been told to do by some youtube vid,
07:15 PM anniepoo: hey all, I need to get to a store in la grande before they close
07:16 PM anniepoo: 8cD yay - seems to be working. More experiments in a few hours
07:19 PM rue_more: join #reprap
07:19 PM rue_more: oops
07:22 PM Tom_L: rue
07:22 PM Tom_L: i wonder if that triac i used on my toaster oven would work in place of this ssr
08:21 PM LuminaxWk is now known as Luminax
09:09 PM zhanx: annieonprinter: i got mail, tomorrow i am running to get glue and mocking it up as a puzzle with the kids
10:11 PM rue_more: prolly
10:16 PM Anniepoo_: pomatia plays happily with prolly
10:21 PM zhanx: anniepoo: its suppose to rain tomorrow so me and the kids will make it
10:24 PM Anniepoo_: did it arrive?
10:27 PM rue_more: Tom_L, oh wait, is it DC?
10:27 PM rue_more: the triac module would lock on dc...
10:43 PM Sol is now known as Solgriffin
10:50 PM Tom_L: it's before the driver
10:50 PM Tom_L: i think i used it before to turn the spindle on and i just kept it after i converted it
10:50 PM Tom_L: it's like an on/off switch for the driver
10:50 PM Tom_L: i might even be able to do away with it
10:52 PM Tom_L: i hope that's all that is blown
10:52 PM Tom_L: the rest _looks_ ok
10:53 PM Tom_L: rue_more, i just wondered if that type of load would be ok for it
