12:03 AM rue_shop3: ok, cnc and 3d printer are going, I can leave and not feel I'm not doing anything
12:06 AM rue_shop3: but this could be a new problem, if I dont have machines going, I start feeling guilty
12:35 AM rue_shop3: so, if all the solinoids went at the same time, that would be 15A
12:35 AM rue_shop3: at 80V, thats 1200W
12:36 AM rue_shop3: it should only be possable for half of them to fire at the same time, so 600W
12:36 AM rue_shop3: which is about, forgivingly, 5 computer ferrite cores
12:36 AM rue_shop3: so, a 5 phase power supply
12:37 AM rue_shop3: mmmm polyphase
12:37 AM rue_shop3: is supper done yet?
12:37 AM rue_shop3: is that sound the smoke alarm?
01:42 AM rue_bed: ok , thingerse, I need a pivot for the back of a sg90
03:18 AM Snert_ is now known as Snert
04:51 AM Jak_o_Shadows: nah. rue, this is nice metal gears
04:51 AM Jak_o_Shadows: The problem was the stepper motor itself was loose :P
04:57 AM Jak_o_Shadows: The hardest part of making servo brackets and stuff is the first measuring
04:57 AM Jak_o_Shadows: cause they aren't nice size
09:07 AM rue_house: Jak_o_Shadows, you didn't participate in last weeks 'bolt tightening day' did you?
09:07 AM rue_house: you ought check your lugs then too
06:18 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
07:16 PM rue_house: ok, so, I'm somewhere between staying awake, making a solinoid driver board, and writing a super servo controller
07:16 PM rue_house: but if I stay on my ass I'll fall asleep
07:16 PM rue_house: so whatever I do, I just cant sit
07:46 PM rue_shop3: ok I put the parts in a bucket for making the board
07:46 PM rue_shop3: servo driver, hmm
07:47 PM rue_shop3: so I'd need a board with 4x 4017 on it
08:05 PM Snert__: a little extra sleep never hurt no one :) R e l a x .
08:07 PM rue_shop3: damnit why does everyone say that
08:07 PM rue_shop3: freaking damn well speed to death and amount to nothing
08:07 PM zhanx: rue_shop3: i never said that, i say sleep when dead
08:08 PM Snert__: 7 beers.
08:08 PM Snert__: that'll do it.
08:23 PM theBear: hmm... bet someone round here, maybe somemohr around here, would know how the "ttl compatible inputs" on a http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/l293d.pdf would feel about seeing something like 12v via a big resistor on pins marked ABS.max 7v inputs ... alternative versions of this question include 'does "2kv esd protection" mean "some kinda teeny clamp diodes we ain't gonna mention specifically" ?'
08:24 PM theBear: and yeah, i know, dividers, diodes, they exist <grin> but they're ya know, bigger than nothing
08:24 PM rue_shop3: ?
08:25 PM rue_shop3: diode clamped inputs, usually
08:25 PM rue_shop3: fer tiny amounts of current
08:26 PM Tom_L: if it warn't so hot out there i'd go test the mill
08:28 PM theBear: mmm, about as tiny as the biggest resistor i can find at the back of the bench i think
08:29 PM z64555: yeah, ESD is high voltage, low current
08:29 PM theBear: that reminds me... saw a fancy 3d printer on maybe that operation ouch tv show, maybe... could not only print stuff that was kinda bone-ish in many regards, but also some kinda living cells of some kind not specified, to make err, multimedia i spose :)
08:30 PM z64555: zombie gibs
08:30 PM theBear: probly... i seen the first couple scenes in most zombie movies, i know what they doin in those labs they got, with their boffins and such
08:31 PM rue_shop3: theBear, why dont we start you making a 3d printer?
08:31 PM rue_shop3: its not as addictive if everyones not doing it
08:32 PM rue_shop3: theBear, your mission is to find a power switch and a 70cmx70cmx70cm cardboard box
08:32 PM theBear: rue_shop3, cos i ain't quite finished clearing the tv's outta the err, everywhere :-) making major progress tho... not to mention the foam is very close to totally not being here, and i seen the top of my bed for the first time in possibly 3+ years
08:33 PM theBear: i dunno if i can get a box that fancy.... i can probly hollow out some kinda i dunno, multifunction printer or pfft, maybe a server case, quite easily, with some kinda of medium sized sledgehammer ;-)
08:51 PM z64556 is now known as z64555
09:12 PM rue_shop3: theBear, just a cardboard box to put the parts in
09:15 PM theBear: ffs man ! i can't waste that much cubage on a box for a single project, but don't worry about such practical details, i done a bit of this stuff in the past, i got storage protocols and such in place, they seem to do the job :)
09:15 PM rue_shop3: nooo the box is REALLY important!
09:16 PM rue_shop3: without it, your project cannot attain critical mass
09:16 PM rue_shop3: a 30x30x30 box might do too
09:17 PM theBear: critical mass eh ? now that sounds like a sensible reason... you never mentioned that along with your 'put x y z in a box' encouragement in the past
09:17 PM theBear: interesting concept... i like it conceptually, just gotta workout if it would work for me personally/practically
09:18 PM rue_shop3: when you have enough parts in the box, the project kind puts itself togethor
09:22 PM theBear: mmm, i figured that's what critical mass meant :)
09:24 PM rue_shop3: what do you think, tommorow can you find a box, and put a power switch in it?
09:24 PM rue_shop3: /plunk/
09:25 PM rue_shop3: small toggle switch, dosn't need to take any current
09:25 PM theBear: mm, things like switches and sockets and such are always easily at hand, tho in this case the actual putting somewhere makes some sense
10:24 PM rue_shop3: when I was rather young, I could design amazing things, but had none of the tools to build them, as I got older I got to know people with a lathe or a mill, which made me able to take on the occasional project I was really going intense on, today I have a lathe and a mill, but the mill isn't in my shop, so its a bit of an ordeal to go use it
10:24 PM rue_shop3: but, now that I have 3d printers, I can just make stuff
10:24 PM theBear: there's no denying it
10:25 PM rue_shop3: and that imagination that was discouraged so much before, is now free to grow
10:25 PM rue_shop3: yesterday I was called clever for something I didn't deserve it for
10:25 PM theBear: i hope yer gracefully and humbly accepted it tho, to be polite that is <grin>
10:26 PM rue_shop3: an inkjet printer was trying to be used in a area with a slight draft, the page kept blowing away
10:26 PM rue_shop3: I picked up a peice of wire and made a retainer out of it
10:26 PM rue_shop3: the guy said, "clever" and my immediate mental reaction was "no its not"
10:27 PM rue_shop3: :/
10:28 PM rue_shop3: I got a little progress on the screw sorter
10:28 PM rue_shop3: I'm kinda chewing on a few too many projects at once
10:28 PM rue_shop3: 8pm
10:28 PM rue_shop3: +16 hrs
10:28 PM rue_shop3: 4
10:28 PM rue_shop3: 2
10:28 PM rue_shop3: 24 hrs
10:29 PM rue_shop3: 11:59am
10:29 PM theBear: if you say so
10:30 PM rue_shop3: if you design a screw sorter, dont make a system that tips the screw out of a tray into a pipe
10:30 PM rue_shop3: its kinda hit and miss
10:31 PM rue_shop3: a bucket with a gated bottom prolly woulda come out better
10:32 PM rue_shop3: the mecha will have to be designed with all the solinoids pointed the same way
10:32 PM rue_shop3: if those things get bumped, they open for an instant
10:33 PM rue_shop3: there is a load and unload for each muscle, if they open at the same time it shouldn't make a diff to the muscle
11:11 PM rue_house: Im a bit unsire on the pneumatic controller
11:11 PM rue_house: I dont know if I should do the 32 pwm channels for the 32 solinoids, or pair it up to 16 selects and 16 pwm
11:47 PM The_Jester: rue?
11:48 PM rue_house: yes
11:48 PM rue_house: I might sit here and code till midnight
11:48 PM rue_house: The_Jester, high from bondo yet?
11:52 PM rue_house: The_Jester, I got a nokia screen from ali, (it arrived) looks EASY to play with
11:52 PM The_Jester_Kicke: http://imgur.com/a/YnuIr
11:52 PM rue_house: :) perfect!
11:53 PM The_Jester_Kicke: do you recall if we needed caps on a ir reciver?
11:53 PM The_Jester_Kicke: any input?
11:53 PM rue_house: iirc you need to RC the **** out of the power to prevent crosstalk from .. stuff
11:53 PM rue_house: in the datasheet there was a suggested power filter
11:54 PM The_Jester_Kicke: hmm
11:54 PM The_Jester_Kicke: smd
11:54 PM rue_house: <rue_house> yes
11:54 PM rue_house: <rue_house> I might sit here and code till midnight
11:54 PM rue_house: <rue_house> The_Jester, high from bondo yet?
11:54 PM rue_house: <rue_house> The_Jester, I got a nokia screen from ali, (it arrived) looks EASY to play with
11:54 PM The_Jester_Kicke: still printing, sanding
11:54 PM The_Jester_Kicke: not filling yet
11:55 PM rue_house: :)
11:55 PM The_Jester_Kicke: I think it needs frontal ir
11:55 PM rue_house: is 400/600 ok? I didn't know if something courser would have been needed
11:55 PM rue_house: corse'r
11:55 PM The_Jester_Kicke: i have a collection of corser paper in my car stuff
11:55 PM rue_house: hmm
11:55 PM rue_house: ok
11:56 PM The_Jester_Kicke: what do you thing?
11:56 PM The_Jester_Kicke: k
11:56 PM rue_house: ir ranger?
11:56 PM rue_house: blue shoe style?
11:58 PM rue_house: or remote reciever?
11:59 PM The_Jester_Kicke: do both
