02:27 AM rue_shop3: YEA TWO PRINTERS!
02:30 AM rue_shop3: I should prolly build a 3rd...
02:30 AM rue_shop3: oh right, space
02:30 AM mumptai_: ... just to have a spare one
02:34 AM rue_shop3: no, cause when two printers are going, and you have a 3rd part, and you have to wait...
02:34 AM rue_shop3: speaking of, one needs more food
02:35 AM mumptai_: you could (should!?) add a robot for part handling and print bed prep
02:42 AM rue_shop3: na
02:42 AM rue_shop3: I can feed them fast enough
02:43 AM rue_shop3: well that said, they just both finished the parts I designed, the parts mostly-work, and its waiting for me to design more
02:47 AM mumptai_: yes, design time can be way higher than print time, at least that ist the case for my parts
04:16 AM rue_shop3: ok, I am slowly running out of 3mm plastic
04:17 AM rue_shop3: well, kinda, I found a box of red...
04:18 AM rue_shop3: I should make a whole nother extruder for the switch to 1.75
04:25 AM youngiif: have you tried printing 1.75mm in your 3mm extruder?
04:25 AM rue_shop3: hah
04:25 AM rue_shop3: I dont even think my extruder would bite it
04:26 AM rue_shop3: but it would back up in there... I'm pretty sure
04:26 AM youngiif: ah
04:26 AM youngiif: i'm in same situation, but i have read people have ran smaller in the same extruder i have, so i'm going to try it at some point
04:27 AM rue_shop3: the hot end is almost the same
04:27 AM rue_shop3: usually just a adapter tube
04:27 AM youngiif: yeah
04:28 AM rue_shop3: well, I redesigned https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:967580 cause that stl is broken
04:28 AM rue_shop3: but I dont know if its what I want
04:28 AM rue_shop3: printing
04:28 AM rue_shop3: and I'm kinda tired, so I'm just waiting
04:29 AM rue_shop3: it the print works, I'll post as a remix
04:29 AM youngiif: ah nice, so are you going to print 64 of them?
04:29 AM rue_shop3: it might be too big for what I'm doing
04:29 AM rue_shop3: 64?
04:30 AM rue_shop3: I"m using it to pour a tray into a bin
04:30 AM youngiif: did you say you were going to hook up 64 servos the other day (it's 4am here so i could be thinking of someone/something else)
04:30 AM rue_shop3: oh hah
04:30 AM rue_shop3: thats just a "how many servos can I get an stm32 to do at the same time?"
04:30 AM rue_shop3: not related
04:31 AM youngiif: ahh
04:31 AM rue_shop3: hahah its 2am
04:31 AM rue_shop3: nowonder I'm getting tired
04:36 AM youngiif: yeah i'm sitting here watching a print so i can test my parts
04:39 AM youngiif: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2424655; i wish i could rotate the default camera orientation for an stl i upload
04:41 AM rue_shop3: huh, never thought to just look up a rack and pinion
04:41 AM youngiif: yeah i had some special requirements with this one so couldn't use the few i found
04:44 AM rue_shop3: well, if the ribbon drive dosn't work out, maybe I'll use a rack
04:46 AM youngiif: yeah, im curious tot see how well it works (if it works)
04:47 AM rue_shop3: I think the herringbone stuff if silly, its just extra pressure on the quality of the print with not much payback
04:49 AM youngiif: yeah but it looks cool, right?
04:49 AM rue_shop3: hah
09:29 AM codepython777: https://www.servocity.com/dual-screw-plate - I am looking for a plate like this - preferably cheaper to buy - any suggestions on where I could find something like this cheaper? I need those holes to be at the correct distance and 6-32 since I need to screw it on a base plate with that hole pattern.
09:40 AM Tom_itx: make one?
09:46 AM Tom_itx: ahh that's that outfit that's a few miles from me
09:46 AM Tom_itx: a tap to diy would cost you that much
09:54 AM codepython777: Tom_itx: Any chance I can buy metallic rectangular pieces of similar size?
10:03 AM malcom2073: codepython777: For probably about the same price
10:26 AM Tom_itx: you're not gonna save anything if you do
10:41 AM SpeedEvil: codepython777: no esepcial reason you can't make your own out of bar
10:41 AM SpeedEvil: If you need >several
10:42 AM SpeedEvil: centre-punch, drill, tap, hacksaw to seperate.
10:43 AM SpeedEvil: sandpaper or file to round the edges
01:31 PM rue_shop3: 11am
01:31 PM rue_shop3: I was up till 4
01:31 PM rue_shop3: so I'm technically an hour short on sleep
02:19 PM mumptai: hmm, sleep faster?
02:59 PM Deacyded is now known as Deacyde
06:06 PM anniepoo: 8cD coating hands of dancing robot with plastidip
06:06 PM anniepoo: 8cD I made her blouse the other night
06:09 PM anniepoo: made a bunch more touch sensor wires
06:10 PM rue_house: anniepoo, will it be used in the dark?
06:10 PM rue_house: you could also get an idea by using leds s ligth sensors
06:13 PM anniepoo: the snail? no, it doesn't have to operate in the dark
06:16 PM anniepoo: you mean for touch? the cap sensor seems a much more reliable, less hassle thing
06:16 PM anniepoo: anyway, I'm going to go watch a parade.
06:16 PM anniepoo: 8cD
06:57 PM anniepoo: http://instagram.com/anneogborn/
06:58 PM anniepoo: 8cD now have parade pix
08:41 PM SpeedEvil: yay
09:08 PM rue_shop3: anniepoo, the ribbon looks like it'll work
09:08 PM rue_shop3: tracks perfectly
09:09 PM rue_shop3: I had to try REALLY hard to successfully not 3d print the motor bracket
09:10 PM rue_shop3: now I need a stepper driver
09:11 PM rue_shop3: and I have one, I just need to reverse engineer it
09:11 PM rue_shop3: trapazoidal velocity profile
09:14 PM Tom_itx: rue_shop3, do you know how to resize hardware raid?
09:14 PM Tom_itx: lvm
09:29 PM rue_house: do NOT use hardware raid
09:29 PM rue_house: EVER
09:29 PM rue_house: DO NOT REZIE HARDWARE RAID, JUST GET THE DATA OFF ONTO A SOFTWARE RAID AS FAST AS YOU CAN
09:30 PM Tom_itx: i was just trying to help someone and i thought you might know
09:42 PM rue_house: yep, help them by telling them to get it off that hardware array as fast as they can and use a software array
09:42 PM rue_house: UNLESS they are only doing it for speed and not redundancy
09:42 PM rue_house: if their using raid0, for example
09:44 PM Tom_itx: i'll post what he's doing in garf
09:44 PM rue_house: the big question, is the raid for keeping the data safe
09:44 PM rue_house: if so, GET IT OFF HARDWARE RAID
09:44 PM Tom_itx: i don't know how he's using it
09:45 PM rue_house: ask him if its for keeping hte data safe
09:46 PM rue_house: hardware raid is a disaster for that
09:47 PM rue_house: trying to figure out the trapazoidal profile generator I wrote
09:48 PM rue_house: it looks like you set up the motion, and feed it time, it replies with position
09:49 PM rue_house: hmm, I need to build a frame for a food machine
09:50 PM Tom_itx: did you get your screw sorter working
09:50 PM rue_house: I think spotwelding it from 1/4" bar would work nicely
09:50 PM rue_house: I got the drive set up
09:50 PM rue_house: I need to get the mtoor working now
09:50 PM rue_house: hence looking at my trapazoidal code
09:50 PM rue_house: its not been used on anything yet
09:51 PM rue_house: its position controlled
09:51 PM rue_house: you tell it when you are, and it tells you where you need to be
09:53 PM rue_house: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/haha-markx.svg
09:54 PM rue_house: not sure how to apply the infinitly fine math to the real world integers
09:54 PM rue_house: but I'm getting sleepy
09:55 PM rue_house: void InitMotion(trapMotion_t *this, float start, float end, float accel, float topSpeed) {
09:57 PM * rue_house wakes up
09:57 PM rue_house: !!@#?!@#
09:58 PM rue_house: o e
09:58 PM rue_house: \__/
10:02 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
10:04 PM rue_house: so I'd always end up one sample behind
10:05 PM rue_house: and I'm getting positions, with a time to get there , but not actaully being given the step rate
10:05 PM rue_house: this might be why i was working on an inverse version
10:05 PM rue_house: so I'd know when I needed to step
10:52 PM rue_house: picking away at software upgrades
10:52 PM rue_house: *this* is how I break my computer
10:54 PM rue_house: 190 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 576 not upgraded.
10:54 PM rue_house: I'm getting there
10:56 PM Tom_L: i should do that on the new install
10:56 PM Tom_L: it's got ~300
10:56 PM rue_house: just go thru orphaner
10:56 PM Tom_L: how?
10:56 PM rue_house: remmeber, this install is 16 years old
10:57 PM rue_house: its got a lot of cruft
10:57 PM rue_house: orphaner
10:59 PM rue_house: I like how the system keeps trying to get rid of xwindows
10:59 PM Tom_L: what are you running?
11:00 PM Tom_L: i was testing a ver of stretch earlier
11:00 PM rue_house: debian
11:00 PM Tom_L: 8?
11:00 PM Tom_L: i moved my server up to 8
11:00 PM rue_house: is says its 8.8
11:00 PM Tom_L: stretch is 9 i think
11:00 PM Tom_L: been out maybe 2-3 weeks or so
11:01 PM Tom_L: maybe a bit more
11:01 PM Tom_L: they're testing lcnc with it
11:03 PM Tom_L: wheezy is 7.7
11:03 PM rue_house: hmmmm
11:03 PM rue_house: its wants to upgrade libc6
11:03 PM Tom_L: or at least that's what's on the lcnc machine
11:03 PM rue_house: thats been dangerous
11:03 PM rue_house: once after that it couldn't read my drive
11:03 PM Tom_L: oh go for it
11:04 PM Tom_L: you can rebuild all your libs etc
11:04 PM rue_house: not without a backup
11:04 PM rue_house: if you just keep chewing at the edges, nothing bad breaks
11:06 PM rue_house: I dont want it playing with libc6, lilo, or X
