12:56 AM rue_house: ace4016, saw that
01:16 AM rue_house: ideas on what to do till 3am?
03:46 AM The_Jester: greets to all
03:47 AM hypodyne: howdy
03:48 AM The_Jester: How goes?
04:10 AM hypodyne: good.. how about yourself
04:22 AM The_Jester: Bored
04:25 AM hypodyne: Well I can help if you have windows 10 or an Xbox
04:25 AM hypodyne: Xbox one.
08:43 AM rue_house: hah and I fell asleep
09:37 AM Tom_itx: good thing is you woke up again
10:55 AM rue_shop3: do you know someone who didn't?
11:02 AM rue_shop3: nice and quiet with the two cnc idle
11:07 AM rue_house: ok, if I take a small pop bottle and fill it with water, weigh the differennce I get the volume in kcc
11:07 AM rue_house: P1*V1 = P2*V2
11:08 AM rue_house: if I assume that I'm starting with 14psi
11:08 AM rue_house: then I can work out the amount of air added to the pop bottle by the pressure difference
11:09 AM rue_house: so, I can pulse a valve and get a duration->volume chart at a given pressure
11:11 AM rue_house: I dont know orriface flow formulas
11:11 AM SpeedEvil: you are assuming it's isothermal, it's not
11:11 AM rue_house: you think there is a significant temp difference?
11:12 AM SpeedEvil: If you double the pressure, you double the temperature (from 300K to 600K (30C to 300C)
11:13 AM rue_house: I should think an flow for an oriface is something like P1*A/P2
11:13 AM rue_house: SpeedEvil, hmm
11:13 AM rue_house: do you think it'll throw off the measurement of ~4cc in a 600ml pop bottle?
11:13 AM SpeedEvil: no
11:14 AM rue_house: P1-P2/A
11:14 AM rue_house: units aren't right
11:15 AM rue_house: need to kill the pounds without killing the square inches
11:16 AM rue_house: oooh viscosity
01:52 PM rue_shop3: so I want to owrk on my mecha finger, code a max7219 and work on the pipe bender
01:52 PM rue_shop3: and a supper machine
02:18 PM Snert: and have it all done by 6pm.
02:26 PM rue_shop3: I suppose if I dont know what I'm doing, it dosn't matter *what* shape 'done' is
04:07 PM rue_shop3: ok I made 8 peices of 3/4" plastic pipe to use as bins for the screws
04:07 PM rue_shop3: I need to design plugs for them
04:07 PM rue_shop3: and figure out how to mount them
04:08 PM rue_shop3: velcro?
04:08 PM rue_shop3: !?
04:08 PM * rue_shop3 thinks about this
04:08 PM rue_shop3: wow, thats a good idea rue
04:08 PM rue_shop3: yea, I think thats a good one
04:08 PM rue_shop3: velcro
04:08 PM rue_shop3: ok, so just the end caps
04:20 PM zhanx: wow rue is on early
04:21 PM * zhanx just got home from work and got his bluetooth head phones working so i can listen to music in the shop
04:27 PM rue_shop3: oh the love,
04:28 PM rue_shop3: the first printer isn't done what I'm doing with it, so I just stared the next design on antoher printer
04:28 PM rue_shop3: I cant wait till I assemble #3
04:31 PM rue_shop3: I put a ~2m filament end in my machine yesterday, printing object #4 and there's still lots left...
05:02 PM rue_shop3: ugh, ok, my securrity camera recorder is useless
05:02 PM Tom_itx: how so
05:02 PM rue_shop3: I cant get the recordings off it
05:02 PM rue_shop3: it looks like they are half corrupt
05:03 PM rue_shop3: good thing Its not important right now
05:03 PM rue_shop3: I'd be freaking out
05:03 PM Tom_itx: i haven't seen you freak out yet i don't believe
05:03 PM rue_shop3: pppf
05:03 PM rue_shop3: t
05:06 PM Tom_itx: 184.1G
05:10 PM rue_shop3: ok, well
05:10 PM rue_shop3: both printers are going, and I'm taking an audio break with the cnc machines
05:10 PM rue_shop3: I'm sitting here feeling productive
05:11 PM Tom_itx: all is good with the world then
05:11 PM rue_shop3: no, but its close enough
05:26 PM rue_shop3: so, to position the screw carrige, should I use a dc motor and interrupters, or should I use a stepper ?
05:26 PM rue_shop3: interrupters/encoder
05:26 PM anniepoo: 8cD
05:27 PM rue_shop3: printing the pipecaps now
05:27 PM rue_shop3: just doing 8 tubes
05:27 PM anniepoo: go Rue!!!
05:27 PM anniepoo: 8cD
05:27 PM anniepoo: happy canada day
05:27 PM rue_shop3: :)
05:27 PM rue_shop3: I have a basic cart assmbled
05:27 PM rue_shop3: not sure how to drag it...
05:27 PM anniepoo: July 4 falls in mid week this year, so we're sorta having 2 july 4 weekends
05:28 PM anniepoo: Oyster feed this evening
05:28 PM rue_shop3: carefull of them shellfish!
05:31 PM anniepoo: the bravest man I ever saw
05:31 PM anniepoo: was he who first ate an oyster raw
05:31 PM anniepoo: 8cD
05:32 PM anniepoo: ok, so I ordered a couple sizes of foam rubber balls
05:32 PM anniepoo: they've arrived
05:32 PM anniepoo: I'm trying to decide how to make the dancing robot look
05:33 PM rue_shop3: like a coca-cola bottle
05:33 PM rue_shop3: ?
05:34 PM anniepoo: I have a 4" yellow ball and a bunch of 2 1/2" balls in yellow, green, red, and blue
05:35 PM rue_shop3: <I'm being polite>
05:35 PM rue_shop3: no idea, I'm not much of an artist
05:35 PM anniepoo: so, I'm thinking snowman look
05:36 PM anniepoo: yellow on yellow would be best, but it'd look like I was making a home made keepon
05:39 PM robopal: link?
05:39 PM anniepoo: to what?
05:39 PM robopal: I dont understand what you bought and why
05:40 PM anniepoo: I bought a bag of foam rubber balls
05:40 PM anniepoo: and a single ball
05:40 PM anniepoo: I'm building a dancing robot
05:40 PM robopal: to be used as feet?
05:41 PM anniepoo: it has a platform with a rod extending from it
05:41 PM anniepoo: I'm going to mount a snowman like foam character on it
05:41 PM anniepoo: the rod can be tilted, lifted, and turned by 4 servos
05:42 PM anniepoo: hang on, lemme get some pix
05:50 PM anniepoo: https://www.instagram.com/anneogborn/
05:50 PM anniepoo: 8cD
05:52 PM anniepoo: I'll add googly eyes, fake fur pink hair, and chenille eyebrows
05:53 PM anniepoo: glue a big washer to the bottom so the body counteranimates
05:53 PM robopal: ooh
05:54 PM anniepoo: 8cD
05:54 PM anniepoo: everyone should have a completely insane project
05:54 PM anniepoo: I need to wire servos to arduino, make a cover for the base, and it's pretty much done
05:55 PM anniepoo: hands are 3D printed. Going to coat them with plastidip
05:55 PM anniepoo: Oooh, I know what he needs
05:55 PM robopal: the snail is for an other one?
05:56 PM robopal: ah I now remember you talking about it, yeah
05:56 PM anniepoo: something on front of body so you can see body motion -
05:56 PM robopal: what did you made it out of? looks like wood?
05:56 PM anniepoo: got it - I'll make it a her, give her a skirt
05:57 PM anniepoo: which part?
05:57 PM anniepoo: the body is foam rubber balls -
05:57 PM anniepoo: the base is melamine coated HDF cut on laser
05:57 PM anniepoo: hands are PLA 3D printed
05:57 PM anniepoo: springs purchased
05:58 PM robopal: no I am asking about the snail now
05:58 PM anniepoo: rod is a piece of 1/8" welding rod
05:58 PM anniepoo: ah!
05:58 PM anniepoo: the shell? it's fiberglass
05:58 PM robopal: well done!
05:59 PM anniepoo: I'm waiting for shielded cable to arrive before installing the capacitive touch sensors
05:59 PM anniepoo: also want the cap. touch boards to arrive so i can mock up a test version before installing
06:00 PM anniepoo: I'm using copper knit mesh, and want ot be sure it works properly through the shell before committing to it by gluing it inside
06:00 PM anniepoo: the shell already has an internal coat of PVC dispersion
06:01 PM anniepoo: after attaching the copper mesh sensors I'll give it a couple more coats
06:01 PM anniepoo: then it gets a cage that acts as support in case a kiddo sits on it
06:02 PM anniepoo: The cage also acts as support for the moveable armature that lets me retract the head
06:02 PM anniepoo: if I do that
06:03 PM anniepoo: it's my big decision of the moment
06:04 PM anniepoo: 8c9 Yay, Pomatia proceeds in piecewise fashion!
06:17 PM anniepoo: 8cD rendering makes my heart happy
10:56 PM hypodyne: howdy
11:11 PM mrdata: hi
11:11 PM mrdata: hypodyne, whats up
11:11 PM hypodyne: not much..
11:16 PM hypodyne: whats up with you.
11:44 PM mrdata: i'm wondering how to make a functional version of these, http://amechanicalmind.deviantart.com/art/Watch-Parts-Creature-Jules-553015732
11:47 PM hypodyne: well 3d models don't have to deal with the real world. although there are plenty of robots based on insects.
11:54 PM mrdata: needs to be small, light weight, at-most fist sized, and have all power and motor control handled
11:55 PM hypodyne: an arduino is about that size.. then add motors, batteries, legs etc
11:57 PM mrdata: yeah, but the arduino is a bit light on capability for that many legs; maybe stm32
11:58 PM hypodyne: there are kits.. a bit bigger though I think. https://laughingsquid.com/a-team-of-six-tiny-robots-work-together-like-ants-to-pull-a-two-ton-car/
