12:12 AM rue_shop3: 2SA928A
12:53 AM rue_house: I stripped 2 more baords, the box remains indifferent
12:53 AM rue_house: I sorted the tub a bit
12:53 AM rue_house: gooooooodies
01:01 AM rue_house: isn't .16V low for a CE saturation voltage on a bipolar transistor?
01:05 AM Anniepoo_: i mostly spent day on housework, but I got the actuator rod installed on my dancing robot
01:12 AM rue_house: 1 axis dancer?
01:12 AM rue_house: "no, I *ONLY* do the Hokey-Pokey"
01:18 AM Anniepoo_: no, 4 axis
01:18 AM Anniepoo_: 3 arms on servos lift the rim of a disk at 3 points
01:18 AM Anniepoo_: so we can go up and down and tilt fore-aft and side-side
01:19 AM Anniepoo_: 4th servo rotates th disk
01:23 AM Anniepoo_: atop the disk is actuator rod - 1/8" rod that runs up through center of soft bodied puppet
01:23 AM Anniepoo_: 8cD
01:23 AM rue_house: mmm
01:23 AM rue_house: so, the right foot can move in and out?
01:24 AM rue_house: well I beat you ont eh dancing robot challange like a year ago
01:24 AM * rue_house gives anniepoo 2nd tho
01:25 AM Anniepoo_: ???
01:26 AM Anniepoo_: the puppet doesn't have legs, just a body
01:26 AM Anniepoo_: think snowman
01:26 AM Anniepoo_: keepon
01:27 AM rue_house: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slxOrCXxXOg
01:28 AM rue_house: yup, about a year ago
01:39 AM Anniepoo_: http://www.bbc.com/news/av/technology-40409096/the-robot-that-can-pick-up-virtually-any-object?ocid=socialflow_twitter
01:39 AM rue_house: coffee grains?
01:45 AM Anniepoo_: yah 'any object' is dodgy
01:46 AM Anniepoo_: there was a toy around whn I was a kid
01:46 AM Anniepoo_: a length of rubber tubing folded back on itself on each end and sealed, filled with water between the double walls
01:47 AM Anniepoo_: it was really hard to pick up, because if you tilted the tube it moved the folds and would slip out of your hand
01:48 AM Anniepoo_: rice pudding?
01:48 AM Anniepoo_: jello jigglers
01:49 AM Anniepoo_: Ayers rock?
01:51 AM rue_house: hmm
01:51 AM rue_house: 11:30, gnight! :)
01:51 AM Anniepoo_: nite
05:05 AM netwoodle is now known as noodle
05:05 AM akaWolf1 is now known as akaWolf
05:05 AM tumdedum_ is now known as tumdedum
07:01 AM veverak: hmm
07:01 AM veverak: found complete documentation to my code
07:01 AM veverak: that is one year old
07:01 AM veverak: I feel weird
07:01 AM veverak: I feel like I can procrastrinate now
07:12 AM deshipu: any reason to procrastinate is good
07:35 AM veverak: btw: funny
07:36 AM veverak: hours of coding in C++ resulted in avoiding duck typing in python
07:42 AM deshipu: yeah, each language has its own patterns
09:16 AM rue_house: duck typing?
09:17 AM veverak: it's not exactly duck typing
09:17 AM veverak: but moved from using "dict" for storing configuration to using proper objects
09:18 AM veverak: or namedtuple
09:19 AM veverak: or namedtuple
09:19 AM veverak: fuuu
09:19 AM * veverak should not press "UP ARROW" and than "ENTER" in random terminals
09:31 AM rue_house: that reminds me, I have a "no, its not unicode" correction to make in a program
11:58 AM veverak: IT MOVES
11:58 AM veverak: well
11:58 AM veverak: it moves only in simulator
11:58 AM veverak: BUT IT MOVES
12:25 PM anniepoo: 8cD
12:33 PM anniepoo: veverak - tell us more!
01:07 PM veverak: anniepoo: my quadruped robot finally moved _properly_ in simulator <3
01:12 PM synja: why use a simulator? if it's small, why not just do it when it's complete?
01:24 PM veverak: long time till that phase
01:24 PM veverak: and I has to be really small, so a lot of testing, and don't want to carry it everywhere
01:24 PM veverak: *really smart
01:37 PM Blumax: Hello everyone.
01:37 PM Blumax: I am looking for a reference for a water resistant distance sensor for a short distance (<20cm). This is to install on my car to park in a very small place ^^
01:37 PM Blumax: Do you have an idea ?
01:38 PM synja: there's infrared and ultrasonics
01:38 PM synja: infrared will reflect with water though
01:38 PM synja: they have waterproof ultrasonic sensors
01:39 PM synja: the cheaper ones give you about a 0.5 cm MOE
01:39 PM synja: maybe $25 for waterproof
01:39 PM synja: double that at least for waterproof and fairly accurate
01:39 PM Blumax: they have waterproof ultrasonic sensors :)
01:40 PM anniepoo: nice -
01:41 PM synja: they're pretty much all waterproof though
01:41 PM synja: if water gets in them, it will just give bad readings
01:41 PM synja: but the "waterproof" ones are harder for water to get in
01:41 PM Blumax: double that at least for waterproof and fairly accurate
01:41 PM synja: ...
01:42 PM synja: yes, that's what i said
01:42 PM Blumax: An accuracy of 1 cm is enough. $ 25 will always be less expensive than a painting: p
01:43 PM Blumax: Sorry, I translate at the same time, I do not master English well.
01:43 PM synja: ah ok
01:43 PM synja: try mouser.com
01:43 PM synja: that's where i get all my sensors
01:44 PM anniepoo: Blumax - an ordinary ultrasonic covered with thin rubber should work
01:44 PM anniepoo: things to try:
01:45 PM synja: idk about that
01:45 PM anniepoo: 1. bizarrely, put a condom over it. Stuff foam rubber in to make it stretched a bit
01:46 PM anniepoo: 2. piece of rubberized cloth
01:46 PM anniepoo: I've got a social robot with an ultrasonic range sensor that works just fine through a piece of cloth
01:46 PM Blumax: Bicycle inner tube ?
01:46 PM synja: def. not
01:47 PM synja: anniepoo, i can see how it would work with cloth, but if the cloth got wet it would give weird readings
01:47 PM synja: rubber? it would have to be some really thin stuff
01:48 PM Blumax: Ok, the idea of the condom pleases me well: p
01:48 PM synja: :/ if it doesn't work, blame anniepoo
01:48 PM anniepoo: well, you just need thin rubber sheet
01:48 PM anniepoo: well, you can try these easily enough
01:48 PM anniepoo: dental dam might work
01:49 PM anniepoo: you can get thin rubber sheet by cutting ends off a condom and slitting it
01:49 PM anniepoo: you might be able to just arrange for the sensor to be in a can, looking thru an aperture
01:50 PM anniepoo: eg if I stand on my back porch, under the porch roof, I'm 'outside' but don't get wet in rain
01:51 PM Blumax: ok, I understand
01:51 PM synja: i can see how the condom might work
01:52 PM anniepoo: the acoustic sensor on torpedos is coated with neoprene rubber
01:52 PM anniepoo: several cm of it
01:52 PM synja: huh
01:52 PM synja: how the hell do you know that
01:53 PM anniepoo: I used to own a book on torpedo design
01:53 PM anniepoo: 8cD good engineers read widely
01:53 PM synja: lol
01:53 PM synja: i'm looking into the rabbit hole, but i'm not going down it
01:53 PM anniepoo: I basically was born down the rabbit hole
01:54 PM synja: ha! i can see that
01:55 PM synja: so, is your snail functional?
01:57 PM Blumax: https://www.dirobots.com/fr/capteurs-distance/1264-capteur-de-distance-a-ultrasons-us-100.html
01:57 PM Blumax: This witch latex
01:57 PM anniepoo: just finished the shell. now a bit distracted making a dancing robot
01:57 PM anniepoo: that's the first thing I'd try
01:58 PM anniepoo: I'd set this up on test bench, get electronics and software working so you can see range
01:58 PM anniepoo: then use various radome materials over it
01:59 PM anniepoo: also try varying dist from sensor to radome
01:59 PM Blumax: I think I have a sensor like that which drags in my brothel
02:00 PM anniepoo: ok, synja, now THIS is what I meant about good engineers having a wide knowledge base
02:00 PM anniepoo: see, Blumax builds sensor systems and does drag in a brothel
02:01 PM anniepoo: Blumax - if none of the radome ideas work, there are IR time of flight sensors that would be good for this application
02:02 PM anniepoo: but IR outside is tricky, sunlight disrupts
02:02 PM synja: lots of things disrupts it
02:02 PM synja: kudos on the progress anniepoo. dancing robot? i have to see that
02:03 PM Blumax: It's for a parking lot with some artificial light.
02:04 PM anniepoo: synja, it's being built for Playing with Prolog, so will def be videos when done
02:05 PM synja: so, most of your robotics have some learning application for children, you said before?
02:07 PM Blumax: https://www.dfrobot.com/product-1083.html
02:07 PM Blumax: 4-30cm IR
02:08 PM Blumax: But is not waterproof
02:25 PM SpeedEvil: micron
02:25 PM SpeedEvil: not centimeter
02:26 PM anniepoo: yes, most do
02:26 PM anniepoo: the snail does
02:27 PM synja: very nice
02:27 PM synja: too bad nobody really cares about the kids
02:27 PM synja: well, not many
02:28 PM deshipu: will somoebody please think about the children?
02:36 PM synja: if it will make money for them, they'll invest; if it's for the kids, not a fucking cent
02:36 PM synja: not to say i agree with it
02:38 PM deshipu: scandalous
02:50 PM Blumax: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3317
02:51 PM Blumax: I wonder if it works with a small box with a plexiglase window
02:52 PM synja: plexiglass magnifies lasers
02:52 PM synja: so no
02:52 PM synja: it wouldn't work well
02:53 PM Blumax: And glass ?
02:53 PM anniepoo: I've seen similar sensor installed behind a plexiglass window
02:53 PM anniepoo: we had on on the R25
02:53 PM synja: ir ultrasonic or laser?
02:54 PM synja: if you adjusted for it, it would work
02:54 PM synja: but on its own i have doubts
02:54 PM synja: and depending upon the angle
02:56 PM deshipu: Blumax: it does, there is an app note where they explain how to adjust the settings for a glass in front
02:56 PM deshipu: that sensor has about 200 registers that you have to set before it works
02:58 PM deshipu: I wrote a driver for it, it took a while
02:59 PM synja: sounds like fun
03:21 PM anniepoo: 3 mins, decarpal
04:31 PM Blumax: tank all
04:31 PM Blumax: Have a nice day
10:19 PM patr0clus is now known as s3nd1v0g1us
10:39 PM rue_shop3: taking the medical machine apart more
10:39 PM rue_shop3: its got about 20000 feet of rainbow ribbon cable in it
10:39 PM rue_shop3: and a SBC P1 tho,
10:39 PM rue_shop3: with an isa 8255 card
10:40 PM rue_shop3: motors are starting to pick up some oxides, need to get them out of it
10:43 PM rue_shop3: 100000uF 40V cap
10:45 PM Tom_itx: don't lick it
10:49 PM SpeedEvil: You do you!
11:50 PM Anniepoo_: should sew the dancing robot, but too pooped!
