12:15 AM rue_shop3: "Given your current success rate, start trying to fail."
12:18 AM rue_shop3: ~lemonaid~
12:41 AM anonnumberanon: or try rote learning ~~...
09:22 AM rue_house: Tom_itx, http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/p1090036.jpg
09:22 AM rue_house: new piperack
09:22 AM rue_house: :)
09:24 AM youngiif: rue_house: that'll be nice, wish I could afford to fill that rack up with pipe! :-p
09:29 AM rue_house: mine is mostly from scrap yard
12:36 PM Tom_itx: rue_house, nice
09:23 PM rue_house: I think my fridge just died, the freezer is at -4
09:24 PM Tom_itx: yeah i had that happen a while back
09:24 PM rue_house: just rebooted it, see what happens
09:25 PM Tom_itx: make plans for another to take it's spot...
09:26 PM Tom_itx: order one from aliexpress
09:27 PM hypodyne: you can go 7 months without food. can't you
09:28 PM synja: time to get deliveries
09:28 PM synja: oh wait you live in the middle of nowhere
09:28 PM Tom_itx: he lives on the far edge of nowhere
09:29 PM synja: just like me
09:29 PM synja: that's the only thing i miss about being in the city
10:12 PM z64555: rue_house: have any refridgeration gear?
10:12 PM z64555: *refrigeration
10:15 PM anonnumberanon: he can fix it
10:16 PM z64555: yeah, but he'll need the fill gauges and a charge of refrigerant at the least
10:23 PM anonnumberanon: r134? :)
10:27 PM Tom_itx: 1234YF
11:00 PM rue_house: only waiting for 34 things form china now
11:12 PM rue_house: I wonder if I can use air pads for pressure sensing
11:12 PM rue_house: 3d printed silicone ones
11:29 PM z64555: why 3D print
11:29 PM z64555: just blow them into a mold
11:29 PM rue_house: intricasies I cant easily obtain any other way
11:30 PM z64555: for an air pad??
11:30 PM rue_house: damn I'm falling asleep
11:30 PM rue_house: yea
11:30 PM z64555: what's wrong with a simple blister pillow?
11:30 PM rue_house: pockets that keep the air from just moving around
11:31 PM rue_house: damn I'm falling asleep and I dont think I can do anything about it
11:31 PM z64555: still can do that with a mold
11:32 PM z64555: puff a bit of air into the plastic glob, then press into mold
11:33 PM z64555: if you have a bunch of chambers/baffles on it, then you can put in multiple air tubes
11:36 PM rue_house: time spent hand working it your way: hours, time spent working it my way: 5-10 mins
11:37 PM z64555: a robot can do that easily
11:37 PM rue_house: I still want a silicone extruder
11:37 PM rue_house: and paste
11:38 PM rue_house: wax
11:38 PM z64555: eh, I guess give the 3D printer a go. I have doubts that the pockets will stay
11:39 PM rue_house: alrdy seen a silicone printer, NEATO
11:39 PM rue_house: really like to do wax
11:39 PM rue_house: mayeb the trick is to transport it to the head hot and cool it to the right point for extrusion
11:40 PM rue_house: thermal conductivity might make that plan suck
11:40 PM rue_house: armyofevilrobots, did you do a wax printer yet?
11:40 PM armyofevilrobots: Not yet, no.
11:40 PM rue_house: hmmm
11:40 PM rue_house: fixed volume, 60 or 90cc
11:41 PM armyofevilrobots: I did powder, which eliminates the need for wax for casting.
11:41 PM rue_house: sound like a good excuse to make a tiny 3d printer
11:41 PM armyofevilrobots: but it’s accuracywas poor.
11:41 PM rue_house: hmm
11:43 PM rue_bed: the wax could let me do lost investment casting...
11:43 PM rue_bed: I suppose the powder just skips a step
11:43 PM rue_bed: tho, plaster seemed to have WAY too much sulphor for aluminum casting
11:44 PM rue_bed: ooooh, thought
11:44 PM rue_bed: completely off topic tho
11:45 PM * rue_bed wonders how many things are going on in his brain at the same time
11:46 PM anonnumberanon: information access refused, partition cannot be unmounted, you need unmounting partition to access this file
11:47 PM rue_bed: http://www.seekic.com/uploadfile/ic-circuit/s200971055621305.gif
11:47 PM rue_bed: yes, that circuit
11:48 PM armyofevilrobots: Currently drüling over http://www.thebicycleacademy.org/academytools/
11:48 PM armyofevilrobots: @rue_bed Unless you have to weld to it, both zinc and pewter are decent targets…
11:49 PM armyofevilrobots: I have done some lost wax pla with good success, and used pewter to cast. Cheap and low temp.
11:49 PM rue_bed: aluuuuminium!
11:49 PM rue_bed: robot parts
11:50 PM armyofevilrobots: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamak
11:52 PM anonnumberanon: armyofevilrobots, can you get it?
11:53 PM rue_bed: I wonder how it compares to just aluminum
11:53 PM armyofevilrobots: I last cast zamak with some crap I found at a metal recycler, and it still worked OK.
11:53 PM rue_bed: I have a LOT of aluminum
11:53 PM armyofevilrobots: It’s pretty comparable with 6061, but lower casting temp.
11:53 PM armyofevilrobots: Mind you, my aluminum casting experience was not scientific at all, so I shouldn’t conjecture too much.
11:53 PM anonnumberanon: rue_bed, the kind of circuit that whispers: aaanalog is a maaagical world, little padawan
11:53 PM armyofevilrobots: https://www.rotometals.com/zamak-5-ingot-aluminum-4-copper-1-zinc-95/
11:54 PM rue_bed: I was putting copper in the aluminum to help with some problems, and it was helping
11:54 PM rue_bed: er, brass
11:55 PM armyofevilrobots: I dunno if you can add borax to aluminum though.
11:55 PM rue_bed: I use it to pull out hydrogen
11:56 PM anonnumberanon: zinc is 3 times more atomic mass than Al
11:57 PM armyofevilrobots: Yeah, I wouldn’t use it for drones or bicycle parts (lie, I did use it for a camera mount on my bike), but it has low shrinkage and makes nice looking parts.
11:57 PM armyofevilrobots: I would _really_ like to cast steel, but the temperatures and narrow margin of error put it out of reach for me.
11:57 PM rue_bed: hahah, that staircase gen is like half a adc
11:58 PM anonnumberanon: i want a cnc machine for small steel and aluminum
11:58 PM anonnumberanon: parts
11:58 PM rue_bed: hah, have any shop space?
11:58 PM armyofevilrobots: Heh; I loaned mine to @rue_bed
11:58 PM anonnumberanon: rue_bed, no
11:58 PM rue_bed: oh yea
11:58 PM anonnumberanon: im in a bad house right now
11:58 PM anonnumberanon: i have to be patient
11:59 PM rue_bed: I wan tto build more toys, but I need more shop space
11:59 PM anonnumberanon: let's make another shed!
