#robotics Calendar

12:07 AM anonnumberanon: why
12:19 AM rue_house: because I really needed to pick up the parts of my milling machine bythe end of today
12:21 AM anniepoo: the reason this channel's not swamped with people is that laying in bed imagining your robot running around is far more fun than a week of evenings spent fiberglassing
12:21 AM rue_house: see, you should have welded it
12:25 AM anniepoo: at this point I'm wondering if I should have vacuum formed it
12:25 AM anniepoo: Gotten a machine out of it and less work, I htink
12:26 AM anniepoo: and less money - bet I have > $100 in that stupid shell
12:33 AM rue_house: :/ I need to finish my vacuum former
12:34 AM anniepoo: well, I just put the last of the 2nd coat of mat on. So yay, I've applied my last fiberglass
12:34 AM anniepoo: Bondo in some holes, sanding, and it's DONE!
12:35 AM anniepoo: (ok, I might glass some mounts in place, that'd be a tiny bit more)
12:36 AM rue_house: did the etched.... oops, compressor is still on.... the etched boat registration plates today, they came out pretty nice
12:36 AM rue_house: lots of work!
12:39 AM anniepoo: nice! pix!! pix!!
12:44 AM rue_house: hmmm
12:53 AM anniepoo: rue, xacto, blue tape, sandblast?
01:00 AM rue_house: word editor, 360pt, font, print, tape togethor (too big), green tape, exacto, sand blast, paint, peel
01:00 AM rue_house: but I precoated it first.
01:01 AM anniepoo: 8cD
01:02 AM anniepoo: precoated what?
01:05 AM rue_house: white paint
01:05 AM anniepoo: post sandblast, pre paint?
01:05 AM rue_house: its just pine
01:05 AM rue_house: pre everything
01:05 AM anniepoo: ah
01:07 AM anonnumberanon: did you make the torque-sensing servo?
01:07 AM rue_house: the torque sense works
01:08 AM rue_house: I have an issue with programming an stm32 tho
01:08 AM anonnumberanon: i have this discovery disco one
01:08 AM anonnumberanon: never played with it
01:08 AM orlock: me too, i think
01:09 AM orlock: the devs here have these STM SBC's with like, 6 ethernet ports on them?
01:09 AM orlock: i should have grabbed one from the bin
01:09 AM anniepoo: ok, headed home
01:10 AM anonnumberanon: i don't know what to expect vs avr programming
01:12 AM rue_house: I ahve about 12 of the stm32 boards from china
01:13 AM rue_house: I want to get into them so that when avrs go bust I'm still got soemthing
01:13 AM anniepoo: ok, I'm outta here, see you from home
01:13 AM rue_house: mmhmm
01:13 AM orlock: latest salvage from work..
01:13 AM orlock: half a dozen tiny steppers
01:13 AM orlock: 7.5deg per step
01:14 AM anonnumberanon: ah? what stm32 boards? how much do they cost?
01:14 AM orlock: but instead of having a D shaft, it's got a quality threaded rod, but not "hat" to move
01:41 AM rue_house: 72Mhz for about $1.72
01:44 AM rue_house: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-1pcs-lot-STM32F103C8T6-ARM-STM32-Minimum-System-Development-Board-Module-For-Arduin0/32498344057.html
01:46 AM rue_house: 8-| well!?
02:01 AM anonnumberanon: ah nice that looks pretty useful
02:01 AM anonnumberanon: no extraneous components, just the bare minimum
02:03 AM rue_house: its a great substitute for a small arduino board
02:23 AM rue_house: pro mini
02:23 AM veverak: it is
02:23 AM veverak: :)
02:23 AM veverak: rue_house: and programmable in haskell afaik
02:23 AM rue_house: I rather program them directly in C
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: You have 12!
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: I have like, 3
02:29 AM rue_house: I just kept buying them
02:32 AM rue_house: I have managed to make one of them flash an led
02:33 AM Jak_o_Shadows: eyyy
02:33 AM Jak_o_Shadows: that's half the hard bit
02:37 AM rue_bed: now I'm trying to do it with the library you pointed me to
02:37 AM rue_bed: cause you should see the mess of files that I did it with origionally
02:37 AM Jak_o_Shadows: aha
02:37 AM rue_bed: damn near writing your own memory map headers
02:38 AM rue_bed: I got it to compile
02:38 AM rue_bed: I plugged the programmer into the workstation last thing today
02:38 AM Jak_o_Shadows: That is the main reason I am using a ibrary
02:38 AM rue_bed: so I could log in and try flashing it now
02:39 AM rue_bed: I'm going to have to drive for an hour on less then 6 hours sleep tommorow
02:39 AM rue_bed: this is not goood
02:39 AM rue_bed: its not a straight road
02:39 AM rue_bed: and there is a cliff on one side most of the way
02:40 AM rue_bed: oh, and I need to help people with telephone systems when I get there
02:41 AM rue_bed: I'm going to lie in bed not sleeping now
02:41 AM rue_bed: Jak_o_Shadows, I'll see you next weekend when our schedules line up again
02:50 AM anonnumberanon: sleep sounds good
02:53 AM Jak_o_Shadows: pretty much rue
03:40 AM tttb2 is now known as tttb
06:59 AM veverak: I wonder
06:59 AM veverak: http://www.nintendo.com/switch/
07:00 AM veverak: what is good way to wirelessly communicate with that "handles" ?
07:00 AM veverak: BT is single device only no ?
07:01 AM veverak: hmm, it uses BT though
07:02 AM ib0t: with bt you can normally connect to multiple devices
07:03 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Bluetooth 4is magic
07:04 AM veverak: yeah?
07:04 AM veverak: I see
07:22 AM veverak: well
07:22 AM veverak: if everything will be accepted
07:23 AM veverak: I may wrote down making "open source version for ocntrolling robots" for it, and pass it as thesis to some student
07:44 AM Anniepoo_: ??
09:29 AM rue_house: stlink-v2.cfg
09:36 AM rue_house: SCRIPT_DIR
09:39 AM rue_house: /usr/share/openocd/scripts/interface/stlink-v2.cfg
09:41 AM rue_house: wrote 1024 bytes from file ./main.elf in 0.225983s (4.425 KiB/s)
09:41 AM rue_house: verified 724 bytes in 0.089994s (7.856 KiB/s)
09:41 AM rue_house: so does that mean it worked?
09:45 AM rue_house: well, something did soemthing, caue the light that was falshing isn't anymore
09:45 AM rue_house: ggt work
11:01 AM veverak: http://i.imgur.com/HGXGJsk.png
11:01 AM * veverak kind of enjoys modeling it
11:07 AM anniepoo: far out
11:07 AM anniepoo: 8cD
11:09 AM davr0s is now known as doomlord
11:21 AM synja: yeah, pretty neat veverak
12:22 PM anniepoo: rue, that looks like a normal successful compile, yes
12:33 PM WaywardSon is now known as Wayward
01:51 PM Snert__ is now known as Snert_
05:12 PM z64556 is now known as z64555
06:17 PM veverak: http://i.imgur.com/vgmmlcy.png
06:22 PM robopal: nice
06:23 PM robopal: read about the robocops in Dubai?
06:32 PM ace4016: link?
06:39 PM robopal: http://gulfnews.com/news/uae/emergencies/first-robot-cop-to-join-dubai-police-by-may-official-says-1.1993347
06:41 PM robopal: dont ask me about the reference of the football player in the end
06:42 PM robopal: I have no idea why his name appears in this article
06:42 PM robopal: lol
08:28 PM z64555: https://xkcd.com/1838/
08:28 PM z64555: thought it was relevant. :)
08:38 PM anniepoo: that got posted on our company slack
08:40 PM ace4016: hehe
09:03 PM SpeedEvil: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/here_to_help.png also relevant
10:13 PM z64555: Yes. :)
10:16 PM anniepoo: 8cD i have applied bondo. Not mondo bondo, just bondo
10:16 PM anniepoo: One more side to do, then sand outside, do a bit of trimming on inside, and apply the rim
10:19 PM z64555: How's the shell shaping up? Is it ready for drag racing? :D
10:32 PM anniepoo: might be by end of day
10:33 PM anniepoo: I'm having a cruddy day on many fronts and being good to myself. So I'm not pushing it, but
10:33 PM anniepoo: 8cD it's relaxing to make stuff and not worry about it
10:33 PM anniepoo: I think I'm going to go put the rest of the bondo on
10:34 PM anniepoo: bondo, when you're with me I'm smiling... Booooonnnnnn-dooo, in my eeeeeyeees.....
10:34 PM anniepoo: Boondo, I'm wearing safety glasses, and rubber gloves, and an oooold sweatshirt
10:35 PM anniepoo: it's like booooonnnndo...
10:37 PM z64555: I sadly don't get that reference. But as long as you're having fun, that's what counts. :D
10:37 PM * z64555 tries to be supportive
10:38 PM Tom_L: anniepoo, wax on.... wax off...
10:40 PM Tom_L: why bondo and not jelcoat?
10:43 PM anniepoo: I'm just getting the worst of the holes out
10:43 PM Tom_L: i used to use that for the surface of molds
10:44 PM Tom_L: and the green spray on release agent
10:44 PM anniepoo: first coat of fiberglass gave me a flimsy feeling thin shell, with a few holes where I missed spots
10:45 PM Tom_L: how many cloth layers?
10:45 PM anniepoo: I put a second layer of mat on the inside. Went quickly (didn't care if there were some bubbles) and
10:45 PM anniepoo: sealed the holes. But there's some irregularitiues in the surface
10:45 PM Tom_L: matte probably works better for that
10:46 PM anniepoo: I've just finished putting bondo in the holes,
10:46 PM anniepoo: when it sets up, I'll put an edge on the shell, sand it down,
10:46 PM anniepoo: paint it, then apply a coat or two of gel-cote
10:46 PM anniepoo: but I'm open to advice, I'm new to all this
10:46 PM anniepoo: 8cD
10:47 PM anniepoo: (actually, I'm always open to advice)
10:47 PM Tom_L: an old acquaintance did boat repair and used some type of foam to make first off pieces for molds
10:47 PM Tom_L: coated it with bondo, fiberglass & jelcoat
10:48 PM Tom_L: the larger ones he'd bag and vaccuum seal as it cured
10:49 PM anniepoo: I had to run up to a silicone mold material supplier yesterday. They had a urethane foam stuff to make molds. I should have used that
10:50 PM Tom_L: i used some 2 part urethane once for making some wheels
10:50 PM Tom_L: for a mini sumo
10:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/sumo_files/sumo_wheelmold_index.php
10:51 PM anniepoo: I had a small biz casting urethane
10:51 PM anniepoo: 8cD
10:52 PM anniepoo: 8cD have poured waay too much golden west resin in my life
10:54 PM Tom_L: for the first time i though it turned out rather well
10:56 PM Tom_L: now you _could_ have cnc'd the snail shell
11:13 PM orlock: Tom_L: i used loctite "go2" glue to coat my wheels for traction
11:16 PM anniepoo: yes - could have CNCed it, but wanted a thin 'shell'
11:16 PM anniepoo: ok, going to check the bondo
11:34 PM anniepoo: sanded it down. Had a thin spot that became a hole.
11:35 PM anniepoo: So put a couple small fiberglass mat patches on - one on hole, one on thin spot
11:35 PM anniepoo: Tomorrow I'll bondo those
11:36 PM anniepoo: So, I've got some weatherstrip stuff we've had around a while
11:37 PM anniepoo: it's about 1cm by 2.5cm cross section, adhesive backed
11:37 PM anniepoo: I'm thinking I'll put that around the edge, and the gelcote should smooth the edge against it
11:53 PM z64555: anniepoo
11:53 PM z64555: by the time you're done, the entire shell will be bondo held together by fiberglass
11:57 PM anniepoo: yes
11:58 PM anniepoo: that's true
11:59 PM z64555: lol, oh well. A shell is a shell
