05:01 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Rue, once you've got a pressure sensor assembled, wanna show them off?
05:03 AM Jak_o_Shadows: ./ping me
05:18 AM Arlenx: hi, i want to build a very simple machine that use two nema 23 motors and i'd like to know what is the requirements parts that i need for these two motors.do i need to buy a power supply for each motor? can i use arduino for that project? what driver i need for these motors?
05:26 AM deshipu: no, you can just glue the two motors to a stick and you will have a very simple machine called "mace"
05:26 AM deshipu: however, using rocks instead of motors may be more economically optimal
05:27 AM Tom_L: Arlenx it depends on the size of the steppers
05:27 AM deshipu: nema 23 motors are of fixed size
05:27 AM Tom_L: you will need a stepper driver, PSU and yes arduino would turn them
05:27 AM Arlenx: it's nema 23
05:28 AM Tom_L: single, double, triple stack? makes a difference on current
05:28 AM Arlenx: i need to drive two motors
05:29 AM Tom_L: yes you said that already
05:29 AM Tom_L: i'm using gecko 203v stepper drives on mine
05:29 AM Tom_L: one per stepper
05:30 AM Arlenx: ill check it
05:30 AM Tom_L: you can get cheap chinese junk cheaper
05:31 AM Arlenx: Tom_L, so i connect the arduino to this gecko 203v?
05:31 AM Tom_L: you could
05:31 AM Arlenx: can you suggest me a power supply that can be enough to drive two nema 23 please?
05:32 AM Arlenx: sometime i see people connect power supply for each motor and sometime they use one but i can't figure out what type of power supply they use.
05:33 AM Tom_L: not off hand but you can use 48v probably around 3-5A or so
05:33 AM Arlenx: for each motor or it will handle both of them?
05:33 AM Tom_L: depends on the size and load
05:34 AM Tom_L: my supply is 48v 18A
05:34 AM Tom_L: which is probably overkill for 3 steppers
05:35 AM Arlenx: so if i have 2 stepper motors with total of 6A then i need power supply equal to 6A or even more right?
08:29 AM rue_bed: no
08:48 AM rue_bed: if you have a swtiching current controller for the motor, take the motor wattage, divide by 0.8 then divide that by your power supply voltage, and thats the current you need
08:48 AM rue_bed: (assume the switching current regulator is 80% efficient and use a power supply capable of that wattage)
09:02 AM z64555: shouldn't that be multiplied by 1.2?
09:02 AM z64555: instead of divided 0.8?
09:03 AM z64555: 80% efficiency means 120% input to get 100% output
09:03 AM z64555: I think, haven't had my coffee yet
09:23 AM rue_house: try it, for 50% efficiency, try dividing 40 by 0.5
09:23 AM rue_house: instead of multipling it by 0.5
09:23 AM rue_house: er, multipling it by 1.5
09:24 AM rue_house: arg, morning
09:24 AM rue_house: I'll work it out later
04:57 PM nnumerals is now known as solol
07:10 PM Snert_: https://newsroom.intel.com/editorials/professional-grade-intel-falcon-8-system-offers-advanced-performance-business-critical-flights/
07:11 PM Snert_: huh? Intel does drones?
08:12 PM SpeedEvil: They've been trying to sell their processors inot the 'burgeoning drone market' for a while now
08:13 PM SpeedEvil: Thoguh I hadn't seen actual drones.
08:14 PM SpeedEvil: I am betting on the price being reassuringly expensive.
08:15 PM z64555: wonder if it's just a relabled x86
08:20 PM SpeedEvil: From memory, they've been trying to push x86 into that
08:20 PM SpeedEvil: which isnt' wholly insane
08:20 PM SpeedEvil: For stuff like camera fusion and ...
08:21 PM z64555: misc. sensor algo's
08:22 PM z64555: Main issue is power consumption from the CPU
08:22 PM z64555: and lack of nifty hardware modules such as PWM
08:22 PM SpeedEvil: z64555: no, it's really not
08:23 PM z64555: what's the issue, then?
08:23 PM SpeedEvil: z64555: On very few drones is the static motor power much under 100W
08:24 PM z64555: Sure, whats another 100W tacked onto that
08:24 PM SpeedEvil: yeah - but going after the last watt isn't really going to help.
08:25 PM SpeedEvil: Thermal matters more in that if you need a 10g heatsink, or heavier board, you're going to need another 2-5W or so of power to lift it
08:27 PM SpeedEvil: And perched ops can be very, very power constrained
08:57 PM rue_shop3: MAJOR PROGRESS ON MY VIBRATOR!
08:57 PM rue_shop3: I'll take pics later!
08:57 PM orlock: ...
08:57 PM orlock: For cement settling?
08:58 PM rue_shop3: no, for sorting out my parts!
08:58 PM orlock: via size through mesh?
08:58 PM rue_shop3: no no, I'll take a pic, have to find something to eat first
08:59 PM z64555: weight, perhaps
08:59 PM rue_shop3: and I have a new milwakie cordless set!
09:05 PM SpeedEvil: 'sorting out my parts'
11:04 PM chatter29: hey guys
11:05 PM chatter29: allah is doing
11:05 PM chatter29: sun is not doing allah is doing
11:05 PM chatter29: to accept Islam say that i bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad peace be upon him is his slave and messenger
11:05 PM orlock: !ops
11:06 PM orlock: chatter29: bot
11:07 PM solol: is !ops a real command? lmao
11:08 PM orlock: solol: Lot of hannels somebody's got it as an alert or trigger
11:09 PM orlock: i dont even know who has ops in here
11:09 PM orlock: rarelt needed
11:09 PM solol: yeah at least it wasn't much spam
11:11 PM orlock: thats because they are busy trawling other channels
11:11 PM orlock: until an oper klines them
11:11 PM solol: i've seen that same guy for weeks
11:11 PM solol: same sentences
11:12 PM orlock: yeah they just bounce of open servers with crap security
11:36 PM anniepoo: rue is ops, so is tom
11:36 PM * anniepoo worries about rue's vibrator
11:37 PM * anniepoo tries to get enthused about bondo
11:41 PM solol: what you doing with bondo anniepoo ?
11:41 PM anonnumberanon: bonding
11:41 PM anonnumberanon: sorry i had to
11:45 PM solol: bondage?
11:45 PM solol: im lost
11:46 PM orlock: bondo/bog/filler
11:46 PM orlock: not panelbeating i guess
11:46 PM orlock: so adding to/shaping some sort of plastic form[D
11:49 PM anniepoo: making a fiberglass shell for snail
11:49 PM anniepoo: 8c/ it's a bigger job than I'd expected
11:50 PM anniepoo: I've molded the fiberglass, but the outside is bumpy, so I'm putting bondo in the cracks
