12:18 AM rue_shop3: low low high high low high low low low low high high low low high low
03:37 AM deshipu: low low low low low low low low low low low crash
03:38 AM rue_house: bah, only up till 1am, what a terrible waste of a night
03:39 AM rue_house: if you can decode what I said, you might get a chuckle
03:40 AM deshipu: nah, not worth the effort
11:28 AM rue_house: people aren't even up for binary to hex converstion?
11:29 AM rue_house: I cant even throw a joke like
11:30 AM Tom_L: oh poo
11:30 AM rue_house: high high low high high high high low high low low high high high low high high low high low high high high low high high high low high high high high ?
11:31 AM Tom_L: massive mood swings?
11:31 AM rue_house: nobody understands me binary
11:32 AM Tom_L: my brain is not there today
11:38 AM rue_house: is the maker faire dry run today?
11:42 AM Tom_L: if it's here, it will be a wet run
04:08 PM newradio: anyone here? who knows about steering mechanisms?
04:08 PM newradio: Ackermann steering? Perhaps improvements?
04:09 PM SpeedEvil: Well, sort of.
04:10 PM SpeedEvil: It's all a horrible trade-off.
04:10 PM newradio: SpeedEvil: what is the best way to turn then? :)
04:10 PM newradio: of course we could do 4 wheel turns with different speeds minimizing energy and friction :) - I was hoping to find something already done?
04:10 PM synja: high torque motor?
04:11 PM newradio: synja: is that an issue?
04:13 PM newradio: SpeedEvil: instead of buying hoverboard tires(+motors) is there a motor (+ wheel) that one can buy for the same torque for the same price?
04:13 PM SpeedEvil: newradio: Pretty much no
04:13 PM SpeedEvil: Especially if you can buy broken hoverboards.
04:14 PM newradio: SpeedEvil: why aren't motors cheap? They are mass produced, isnt it?
04:14 PM SpeedEvil: Contact vendors of cheap hoverboards and see if they have any returns. The motors will generally be fine, it's cosmetic damage
04:14 PM newradio: SpeedEvil: even new hoverboard wheels+motors are dirt cheap
04:14 PM SpeedEvil: newradio: yes. But specific high torque high power motors in small volumes (as used for robotics) are not cheap
04:15 PM SpeedEvil: The hoverboard 'industry' means that you can get a pretty well debugged motor and wheel that is much cheaper.
04:16 PM SpeedEvil: My design for my bot (that I have not yet done) had two independant two wheel dollies, on bearings, and electronically controlled steering.
04:18 PM newradio: elec controlled steering?
04:19 PM SpeedEvil: Ackerman steering is required because the wheels stay in the same place at teh corners.
04:19 PM SpeedEvil: This means you need to steer them to a different radius on each turn, to avoid scrubbing.
04:19 PM newradio: I was hoping by now there was a simpler/better way than ackerman for robotics
04:20 PM SpeedEvil: If, instead, you drive the wheels so that each two wheels piviot in the direction so that they are both going forward, you don't need it.
04:20 PM SpeedEvil: But it does mean that you are higher off the ground.
04:20 PM newradio: I see
04:20 PM SpeedEvil: you can in principle lose all of the complex linkages, and add a steering servo per wheel, even if you keep the wheels mostly fixed to the corners
04:20 PM SpeedEvil: Instead of ackerman type
04:24 PM newradio: I see
04:25 PM newradio: SpeedEvil: with hoverboard wheels how does one make ackerman steering
04:25 PM SpeedEvil: Same way one does with normal wheels
04:26 PM newradio: I've never made one - of course :)
04:26 PM newradio: cnc required? I guess?
04:27 PM SpeedEvil: CNC is never required.
04:27 PM SpeedEvil: you can always make stuff manually
04:27 PM SpeedEvil: CNC may make some things easier, sure.
04:28 PM newradio: for that application, use wood and cut it to shapes I guess? Even then it sounds painful to make
04:28 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hCPODjJO7s - on the related topic.
04:28 PM SpeedEvil: Constructing a mini car body basically from scratch
04:29 PM SpeedEvil: goes into steering geometry along the way
04:29 PM SpeedEvil: IT's a tradeoff. Simplicity, performance, ease of construction, cost.
04:29 PM SpeedEvil: If you take the wheels and attach them rigidly to the corners of a simple box, it will sort-of-work
04:30 PM robopal: get RC car
04:30 PM robopal: too much trouble for everything else
04:30 PM robopal: RC car and modify it
04:30 PM robopal: trust me. I am an engineer.
04:31 PM robopal: no :P trust me, I have been there, done that
04:33 PM SpeedEvil: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIDE-ON-QUAD-BIKE-KIDS-RAPZILLA-ELECTRIC-CHILDRENS-12V-ATV-BATTERY-CAR-SCOOTER-/390665097342 Even these might be somewhat suitable
08:08 PM rue_house: if you have all that money, just buy what you want from someone else
08:09 PM rue_house: I mean really, why do work?
08:14 PM robotustra: hmm
08:14 PM robotustra: tired
08:15 PM robotustra: sewing is not easy
08:16 PM robotustra: have an idea, may be I have to sew leather robot
08:16 PM robotustra: leather steam punk robot
08:16 PM robotustra: leather, brass, and microcontrollers
08:23 PM robotustra: http://imgur.com/PZtkk5Z
08:46 PM zhanx: Evening
08:46 PM zhanx: i need to code an irc client with tab to complete words
08:47 PM solol: how do you plan on storing a dictionary
08:47 PM zhanx: rainbow table
08:48 PM solol: maybe words are all different enough i guess
08:48 PM solol: how do you make rainbow tables
08:48 PM zhanx: more like common words
08:49 PM zhanx: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_table
08:50 PM solol: you think it'd be needed?
08:51 PM zhanx: nope just fun
08:51 PM solol: wouldn't it slow things down or be tremendously large?
08:51 PM zhanx: it would be harder to code it then to just type out the words
08:51 PM solol: i mean the rainbow table
08:52 PM zhanx: they are for speed
08:52 PM zhanx: while large they are for useful
08:53 PM zhanx: bbl need to swap cars with the father in law. so i can fix his tomorrow
10:48 PM rue_shop3: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
10:48 PM rue_shop3: suddenly I get it
10:48 PM rue_shop3: the halflife of melatonin is half an hour!
10:48 PM rue_shop3: it all makes sense now
10:49 PM rue_shop3: oh and melatonin is an antioxidant, so if your not getting enough antioxidants, you will be tired more often
11:03 PM Tom_L: you take that to sleep?
11:05 PM rue_house: no, my system dumps it on me at random times naturally
11:07 PM Tom_L: how to counteract it?
11:08 PM zhanx: caffeine
11:08 PM rue_house: havn't found that out yet
11:08 PM rue_house: no, caffeine just dumps chemicals ontop of all the melatonin
11:18 PM solol: wait you don't have enough melatonin?
11:19 PM solol: are you tired too much or something?
11:19 PM solol: where do you get antioxidants
11:20 PM solol: hopefully pizza or bread
11:20 PM solol: or meat
11:20 PM solol: or something that i eat
11:20 PM rue_house: my system randomly generates lots of it
11:20 PM rue_house: when I dont need it
11:20 PM solol: i don't watch that stuff much.. but i take a multivitamin
11:21 PM solol: i thought it was the deficiency that brought on tiredness from what you explained
11:21 PM solol: what's your symptoms... how did you know it does that?
11:21 PM solol: blood work?
11:22 PM rue_house: if there were a working medical system in canada
11:22 PM solol: lol so are you just guessing?
11:22 PM solol: i thought canada had one of the best medical systems
11:23 PM rue_house: hah
11:23 PM rue_house: we have a bunch of doctors who can say "your fine, go home"
11:24 PM solol: they draw blood in the US
11:24 PM solol: they'll take blood for a lot of things
11:24 PM rue_house: if it were only part of the medical system eh?
11:25 PM solol: so you're tired a lot or something?
11:26 PM rue_house: happens every so often
