05:08 AM rue_bed: I wanted to know the nicknames of the different coins
05:11 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Dude.
05:11 AM Jak_o_Shadows: 5 cent piece (has an echidna and the queen).
05:12 AM Jak_o_Shadows: 10 cent piece (has a lyre bird and the queen)
05:12 AM Jak_o_Shadows: 20 cent piece (normally has a platypus and the queen. Reasonly often variation in the platypus)
05:12 AM Jak_o_Shadows: 50 cent piece. Octagonal. Has the coat of arms and the queen. REALLY often changed.
05:13 AM Jak_o_Shadows: $1 coin. Has kangaroos and the queen
05:14 AM Jak_o_Shadows: $2 coin. Has an Indigineous person and the queen. Changed for ANZAC centenery to a nifty purple ring. Also changed for the olympics - coloured rings. Was quite cool actually
05:14 AM Jak_o_Shadows: We don't really have nifty names like other places

12:31 PM anniepoo: @CppisME #robotics
12:35 PM rue_bed: ?
12:36 PM rue_bed: goppo, prolly depends on the rpm
12:36 PM rue_bed: I know at 10k rpm, the rubber belt on the cnc stretches ITSELF out quite a bit
12:48 PM anniepoo: The belt manufacturer should have a spec for it. How big's the belt?
12:49 PM veverak: ok
12:49 PM veverak: I found out I really like to nickpick performance
12:53 PM anniepoo: =8cO
12:55 PM anniepoo: yah, I have a guy working for me, making castings. Good guy, but he's a real live artist. Sometimes I need to remind him we're making commercial stuff, not fine art.

01:23 PM codepython777: anyone here has used mavros?
01:39 PM anniepoo: nope
01:40 PM anniepoo: Anybody here want a side gig dealing with connecting a sound level meter to a beaglebone black?

03:02 PM anniepoo: hey jandor
03:09 PM jandor: hello annie
03:22 PM anniepoo: 8cD
03:26 PM jandor: how's the progress with the snail?
03:27 PM anniepoo: making the shell
03:28 PM anniepoo: I have the cardboard for the layering set up in the shop, but ran out of glue
03:28 PM anniepoo: now I've got glue, but am feeling need to do day job work
03:57 PM anniepoo: ok, took a break and now am at layer 95 (working down from 123, when I hit 1 I'm done)
04:02 PM Guest79492 is now known as CrazEd

04:30 PM jandor: oh, that was another russian
04:32 PM anniepoo: 8cD
06:43 PM veverak: how did I ended with playing with: heap of heaps
06:48 PM veverak: so, thanks to C++ templates and stuff
06:48 PM veverak: I can create code for managing heap of known size with compile-time claculated indexes
06:49 PM veverak: whhich means, that inside "small heap", which has constant size and always max. items in it" (I use Item in heap, which allows making :maximal_version: of it) I have really effecient swaping and heaping up/down
06:49 PM veverak: also, size of this small heap is picked in a way, that allows for it to fit in two cache lines
06:50 PM veverak: "big" heap of this small heaps, is than standart code heap
06:50 PM veverak: and it looks than heaping up/down from one heap to another heap, is not so painfull as it seems
06:50 PM veverak: \o/
06:50 PM veverak: finish: tomorrow/day after that, I really wonder how this will compare to standart heap
09:03 PM rue_house: arg
09:04 PM SpeedEvil: http://imgur.com/gallery/YrJQJ
09:04 PM rue_house: to build the house, I'm going to need $120k cash, a $480k mortguage, which will cost me $27k if I live and work my ass off till I'm 60
09:08 PM Snert: if you own property and have 12K cash - why do you need 480K mortgage?
09:08 PM Snert: 120k
09:15 PM rue_house: otherwise they wont give you the mortguage
09:15 PM rue_house: maybe the trick is to start a "$8000" house, and just have it go SEVERLY over budget
09:15 PM rue_house: /\
09:15 PM rue_house: []
09:16 PM rue_house: or maybe I should rob a bank?
09:17 PM rue_house: what is the solution thats going to work, thats what I ahve to ask myself
09:17 PM rue_house: lets see, If I'm going to start building the house in 2 years, thats just $60K/year
09:18 PM rue_house: if I want to make enough to pay the house off, thats just $300k/year
09:18 PM rue_house: I dont know what I get paid/hr
09:18 PM rue_house: might have a thing around here somewhere...
09:20 PM rue_house: I think its $26/hr
09:20 PM rue_house: ok, so
09:20 PM zhanx-: Rue meds
09:20 PM rue_house: 11539 hrs
09:20 PM rue_house: per year
09:20 PM rue_house: problem
09:21 PM rue_house: there are only 8765.8 hrs in a year
09:21 PM rue_house: so, if I come up with a time machine, I need it to add..
09:21 PM zhanx-: Problem is how you plan to make it
09:21 PM Snert: My experience was different I guess. I brought the property ... financed the construction loan and it all rolled over into a mortgage at the end when the house was built.
09:21 PM rue_house: 2774 hrs in a year
09:22 PM rue_house: hmm
09:22 PM rue_house: try another angle..
09:22 PM rue_house: $34.23 per day for 2 years
09:22 PM rue_house: wtf?
09:23 PM rue_house: oooh
09:23 PM rue_house: $34.23 per hour for 2 years
09:23 PM zhanx-: Rue rough cut lumber is cheaper
09:23 PM rue_house: @100%
09:23 PM rue_house: unless all the lumber cutting in our country was exported!
09:23 PM zhanx-: My 80' diameter yert will be cheap
09:23 PM rue_house: like canada did
09:24 PM rue_house: ok, 1 hour
09:24 PM rue_house: so thats 57c/min
09:24 PM rue_house: what takes 1 min and generates a value of 57c
09:25 PM zhanx-: Rue, Alaska mill and cut your own wood
09:25 PM rue_house: OR
09:26 PM rue_house: I get credit cards, max them all out, and keep everyone on their toes till I die and the jokes on them, I have no family
09:26 PM rue_house: if I get credit cards with a max of $5k
09:26 PM rue_house: thats just 60 credit cards
09:27 PM Snert: you look like shit with 60 credit cards lol.
09:27 PM Snert: experian looks at that like you could go into huge debt in an instant.
09:27 PM Snert: and you could.
09:28 PM rue_house: yea, but then the house is built and I just make min payments and shuffle the debt around till I die
09:28 PM Snert: your credit rating would go through the ground.
09:28 PM rue_house: dosnt' matter, wouldn't need it
09:29 PM Snert: if you're serious you'll need to play the game their way. Which I bet you don't wanna do.
09:29 PM rue_house: they get everything when I die anyhow, it might as well be debt
09:29 PM Snert: that's why you're having such a hard time.
09:30 PM rue_house: no, I'm having a hard time because of unreasoanable inflation and terrible labour rates
09:30 PM rue_house: Only a few of the people I know are over the poverty line
09:30 PM Snert: 60K cash will get ya a brand new house built while you wait 3 months. It will end up as a 300K mortgage.
09:31 PM rue_house: no
09:31 PM rue_house: not here
09:31 PM Snert: I'm in alaska...it ain't no cheaper in canuckville.
09:31 PM rue_house: a 1200 square foot shop with a 1200 square foot house, is ~$600k
09:32 PM Snert: that's 2 houses, so 1 house = 300k.
09:32 PM rue_house: no
09:32 PM Snert: same thang
09:32 PM rue_house: first floor is the shop
09:33 PM rue_house: second floor is the house
09:34 PM rue_house: if the place isn't ready till I'm 60, then all I'm doing is building it for someone else
09:35 PM rue_house: which is why I'm drawing at 2 years
09:35 PM rue_house: or, I grow pot
09:38 PM Snert: perfectly viable option :)
09:38 PM Snert: it's about to go legal in canuckistan anyways
09:39 PM rue_house: better idea than robbing a bank, I dont have a gun
09:40 PM Snert: problem is...from the time it's voted legal it takes them 2 years to figger it out.
09:40 PM rue_house: none of the authorities here do anything about it
09:40 PM Snert: they have to figger out how to fund schools with drug money without looking like they're funding the schools with drug money.
09:41 PM rue_house: I know a guy who tried to prevent an illegal one from going in right beside a school
09:41 PM rue_house: the cops, power co, and fire dept wouldn't do anything
09:42 PM rue_house: so, apparently nobody cares
09:44 PM anniepoo: rue, containers?
09:44 PM rue_house: houre
09:44 PM rue_house: house
09:46 PM rue_house: damn, got sleepy again
09:46 PM anniepoo: containers + torch = house
09:46 PM rue_house: I think I can get around building codes/permits if I build a 'space ship' instead of a house
09:48 PM anniepoo: that might be more fun anyway. But does it really get around the codes?
09:48 PM Snert: that will have just about zero resale value.
09:49 PM Snert: it's "non-standard" construction.
09:49 PM Snert: banksters don't wanna loan on weird construction.
09:49 PM Snert: they don't wanna fund a yert.
09:52 PM Snert: if ya wants ta play the game, ya play it their way.
09:52 PM Snert: they hold all the cards.
09:52 PM goppo: I'm trying to fit some small rubber belts over small plastic pulleys. one pulley's 18mm in diameter and the other 6mm. how much should the belts stretch?
09:53 PM goppo: My take is that the more tension there is the more grip there is on the pulleys. Should the belts be stretched to the extent that they won't easily snap?
09:54 PM anniepoo: no
09:55 PM anniepoo: it simply causes the belt to wear
09:55 PM anniepoo: http://makerbot.wikidot.com/cupcake-cnc-10:about-timing-belts
09:56 PM anniepoo: In general, belts should be tight enough to minimize slack, but not so tight that they start placing a lot of stress on the motor shaft or pulleys. Once a belt is on, turn the motor pulley with your fingers to gauge if there's too much resistance. In general the belts should not be tight enough to make a distinct note when plucked with your finger. Also, if your motor makes a humming or buzzing noise when operating, loosen the belts, operation should
09:56 PM anniepoo: be nearly silent.
09:56 PM goppo: hmm
09:57 PM goppo: my belts don't have teeth though
10:00 PM goppo: what are X-, Y- and Z- belts?
10:02 PM anniepoo: this is advice for a 3d printer
10:04 PM goppo: oh right
10:05 PM goppo: but since their belts have teeth, they won't need to be so tight - right?
10:06 PM anniepoo: not necessarily
10:06 PM anniepoo: you could figure out the required tension using entylwynes formula (if I spelled that right) but that's overdoing it
10:07 PM anniepoo: just do what they say in that para
10:07 PM anniepoo: if the belt slips, it's too loose
10:07 PM anniepoo: 8cD
10:08 PM goppo: hmm ok!
10:20 PM rue_bed: you know, its prolly a good idea to start renting out the spare room again
10:21 PM rue_bed: goppo, you have to use synchronous belts for 3d printers
10:21 PM rue_bed: or cables
10:21 PM anniepoo: 8cD if I have to flee the country... how much do you want?
10:21 PM rue_bed: nobodys used cables
10:22 PM goppo: rue_house, how come?
10:22 PM goppo: rue_bed, ^
10:22 PM rue_bed: otherwise the position creeps
10:23 PM rue_bed: you cant have even 0.1mm creep on a print
10:23 PM rue_bed: hey, I started a print...
10:23 PM rue_bed: must be done by now
10:24 PM rue_bed: yea, 3 hours went by
10:24 PM goppo: creeps as in the belt slipping?
10:24 PM rue_bed: its not slip per say
10:24 PM rue_bed: its creeping
10:24 PM rue_bed: it gradually dosn't sit back in the same plate
10:24 PM rue_bed: place
10:25 PM anniepoo: afk for a bit - snail shell's got gaps bewteen layers, because glue hardened before I got it down good
10:25 PM rue_bed: some plotters used to use sand blasted wheels and metal bands tho
10:25 PM anniepoo: so I'm going to try heating it
10:25 PM rue_bed: baked snail
10:25 PM rue_bed: escargone
10:26 PM rue_bed: renting out the bedroom is 500/mo
10:26 PM rue_bed: 0.5k
10:26 PM rue_bed: 6k/year
10:26 PM rue_bed: 2 yeras is 12K
10:27 PM rue_bed: which only puts me short 588k
10:28 PM rue_bed: if I rent out the other room, 24K 576k short
10:38 PM anniepoo: ok, my baked snail's still too tall
10:42 PM anniepoo: 8cP
11:09 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I bought a vice!
11:09 PM Jak_o_Shadows: https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-175mm-wood-working-vice_p6010361
11:10 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Now I have two. The other is a metal workign vice. Probably 50 years old at least
11:21 PM anniepoo: 8cD
11:21 PM anniepoo: everyone should have a serious vise
11:22 PM z64555: How would you know if a vise was serious or not? Asking if it were so seems not productive
11:23 PM z64555: In fact, asking "Are you serious??" seems to come up only when something fell apart. :D
11:24 PM z64555: ...like when I was trying to hold a pipe in place and it just slide out when I went around the bench to get a tool
11:27 PM anniepoo: hang on
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: hell
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: vise
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: oops
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Yeah. I haven't got anything to make wooden jaws for it
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: Im debating whether I want it flush with the top of the workbench
11:29 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I thin I do, but haven't figured out how to do that yet
11:31 PM anniepoo: https://www.instagram.com/p/BS5Ew2LjRBg/?taken-by=anneogborn
11:32 PM anniepoo: 8cD
11:32 PM anniepoo: z, did that answer your question?
11:35 PM Jak_o_Shadows: aha. That vise is wider than mine. It also pivots - mine doesn ot
11:35 PM anniepoo: That vise is mounted at the very corner of a workbench
11:36 PM anniepoo: we have a large. 4x8 ft work table, and a small workbench.
11:36 PM anniepoo: We elected to mount the vise on the small workbench, so we can put a large object on the worktable and slide it around
11:54 PM Jak_o_Shadows: I only have the one. The metal vise is in the front right corner, and the woodworking will go in the front left corner.
