12:00 AM robotustra: orlock: do you know this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0sJlGh9WNY
12:02 AM robotustra: TMC2100 drivers for stepper motors
12:02 AM robotustra: I would disassemble it and made yet another 3D printer :)
12:02 AM orlock: robotustra: I got a pile more extrusion to do that
12:02 AM orlock: it's thinner though
12:02 AM ferdna: robotustra, http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/maholet/24765393/1211/1211_original.jpg
12:02 AM ferdna: what is that?
12:02 AM orlock: but one part of that will be a metal enclosed house for my printer
12:03 AM orlock: robotustra: one of the sister companies of my employer is a market leader in steppers and controllers
12:03 AM orlock: robotustra: i have a big stack of steppers at home, "MADE IN USA"
12:04 AM orlock: Need to find something to do with them :)
12:04 AM robotustra: ferdna: it's a electronic scale connected to PC
12:04 AM robotustra: tensor sensor + AD620 + atmega128
12:04 AM robotustra: -> uart
12:05 AM robotustra: realtime weight measurement
12:05 AM ferdna: nice
12:05 AM orlock: robotustra: i am just a janitor here, the real engineers here make robots to help cure cancer
12:05 AM orlock: it's awesome
12:06 AM robotustra: thinking how engineers can cure cancer
12:06 AM ferdna: robotustra, is the silence box window special material?
12:06 AM orlock: robotustra: they implement automated methods for the manual processes that cientists discovr
12:07 AM robotustra: I would like to ba a janitor at CERN
12:07 AM robotustra: no, usual acrilic plastic
12:07 AM robotustra: the main stuff does the rupper
12:07 AM orlock: robotustra: specifically the robots we make here prepare tissue for sectioning
12:07 AM robotustra: rubber
12:07 AM robotustra: and inner tubes
12:08 AM orlock: robotustra: and take tissue specimens and apply special chemicals to highlight different cancer proteins
12:08 AM robotustra: big medical robots?
12:08 AM robotustra: with 4 hands?
12:09 AM orlock: robotustra: aiming for 24 hour turnaround from tissue sampling to diagnosis
12:09 AM robotustra: they just took ctissue samples?
12:09 AM orlock: robotustra: No, mor elike X/Y/Z cartesian robots in cabinets
12:10 AM orlock: A different location makes the machine to take samples
12:10 AM zhanx: i need to marvel team up with robotustra
12:10 AM robotustra: ok, have to go sleep
12:10 AM orlock: instead of doing it manually, now they have a suction powered gun
12:10 AM orlock: good night
12:11 AM orlock: picking up a drill press on the way home
12:11 AM orlock: yay
12:11 AM zhanx: nice
12:11 AM zhanx: i made one
12:11 AM robotustra: tomorrow
12:11 AM zhanx: it works
12:12 AM robotustra: see u tomorrow
12:12 AM robotustra: good night
12:19 AM ferdna: good night
12:20 AM rue_house: zhanx, have you heard from tomk?
12:20 AM rue_house: tom?
12:20 AM zhanx: no
12:21 AM zhanx: its been a couple of days also
12:21 AM zhanx: he is not in the other rooms either
12:21 AM rue_house: I jknow
12:25 AM rue_house: I once had his mailing info, cant find it
12:25 AM zhanx: let me look
12:25 AM zhanx: nope deleted i guess
12:29 AM rue_house: aliexpress broke the 'my aliexpress' link
12:30 AM zhanx: lol
12:30 AM zhanx: for what
12:30 AM zhanx: oh wait
12:30 AM rue_house: https://trade.aliexpress.com/orderList.htm
12:30 AM rue_house: you want that link
12:32 AM zhanx: no i remember i paypal'd tom, it was too long ago
12:33 AM rue_house: oh, maybe I did
12:37 AM rue_house: I think I found it
12:38 AM zhanx: you gonna mail him?
12:38 AM rue_house: phoning...
12:38 AM rue_house: i think
12:38 AM zhanx: k
12:38 AM zhanx: other channel with the number let me see it
12:52 AM orlock: rue: Did i shop you the thing i got from aliexpress?
12:52 AM orlock: They are sending me a replacement - i hope that it was a one-off flaw and not actually "how it is"
12:53 AM orlock: http://en.crypt.net.au/Assorted/IMG_1465.JPG
12:53 AM orlock: no surround on the pins, and they are bent
09:31 AM rue_house: I'm sure there should be a shroud on it
09:32 AM rue_house: how are the stars?
10:17 AM mumptai: hi
10:23 AM robotustra: hi
10:37 AM robopal: hi
11:52 AM _Sloth: Does anyone have any recommendations on books to learn ROS?
11:59 AM robopal: _Sloth, there is a full lecture about it on yt, I just found out
11:59 AM robopal: recent upload too
11:59 AM robopal: course 1:
11:59 AM robopal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BxVPCInS3M
12:00 PM robopal: course 5 not uploaded yet
01:16 PM mumptai: https://github.com/cajt/list_of_robot_electronics <-- maybe someone has nice additions
01:29 PM deshipu: mumptai: yes, everything on aliexpres ;)
01:50 PM mumptai: deshipu, yes, but ...
01:51 PM mumptai: I also would am not to interested in a long list of arduino shields and every line follower out there
01:58 PM deshipu: mumptai: what then?
01:58 PM mumptai: the other stuff
01:59 PM deshipu: then than what
01:59 PM deshipu: what makes a particular part interesting to you?
02:13 PM mumptai: the few good useful things out there that are hard to find
02:13 PM mumptai: there is a lot isolated and kinda redundant development of electronics out there
02:14 PM mumptai: actually electronics is the smallest problem in robotics in my opinion, but it still has to be doen right and to work in the final integrated system
02:16 PM mumptai: i don't know how many people will actually have build motor drivers, battery management, some kind of sensor-data aggregation and so on
02:18 PM mumptai: deshipu, you think i should add the arduino-shield section?
02:19 PM deshipu: mumptai: I just put my servo controller shield on sale on Tindie, if you are interested: https://www.tindie.com/products/deshipu/16-channel-servo-shield-for-d1-mini-version-10/
02:19 PM deshipu: mumptai: it's not for Arduino, it's for D1 Mini, an ESP8266-based board
02:20 PM mumptai: aha, pca9685 :)
02:20 PM deshipu: yeah, a classic
02:21 PM deshipu: but this is really convenient for me
02:21 PM deshipu: so I thought I would make more and sell them, because it would also be convenient for others
02:21 PM mumptai: i²c is kinda oportunity and curse at the same time
02:22 PM deshipu: I hope it will get cloned by some Chinese factory, and I won't have to make them anymore ;)
02:23 PM mumptai: its easy to use almost everywhere, but will utterly fail if faced with challenging EMI environments
02:25 PM mumptai: if they see a chance to sell, why shouldn't they, technology-wise it should be easy to copy and adapt for any mfg constrains
02:26 PM deshipu: yeah, we will see
02:26 PM deshipu: they can probably also sell them much cheaper :)
02:26 PM deshipu: and with free shipping
02:27 PM deshipu: shipping is pretty bad here
02:27 PM deshipu: price-wise, I mean, quality of service is excellent
02:28 PM mumptai: people doing far east mail order electronics shopping are not necessarily looking for service one might classify as: excellent
02:31 PM deshipu: well, personally I don't mind paying extra for good service
02:31 PM deshipu: as long as it's actually good
02:31 PM deshipu: I learned my lessons, for instance, I never buy cheap tools anymore
02:32 PM mumptai: but those boards are usually low-yield and i had to fix broken soldering pretty often
02:32 PM deshipu: it's just not worth risking injury and material damage
02:33 PM mumptai: low-quality tools are usually also not woth one's time
02:33 PM deshipu: and then it breaks and I don't have the heart to throw it away and it just takes up space...
02:34 PM mumptai: like the hex wrenches included with some self-assembly furniture
02:37 PM deshipu: I actually use those for my bike
02:37 PM mumptai: but i throw the really bad ones right away, if it looks stamped or cheaply drop-forged it will just damage the screws or offer a good chance for injury
02:41 PM mumptai: bike tool of choice: https://www.rosebikes.de/artikel/icetoolz-3-in-1-innensechskant-y-schluessel
02:49 PM deshipu: yeah, I just have 3 ikea hexes
02:49 PM deshipu: I keep loosing them too
02:50 PM mumptai: the nice thing is, you don't have to swap tools at all, just turn it
02:52 PM deshipu: yeah, I would have the usb plug syndrome with it
08:54 PM anonnumberanon: jackshadow sounds good
08:54 PM anonnumberanon: man how do u name complete with Andchat?
08:55 PM zhanx: no tab so no clue
08:55 PM zhanx: double tap?
08:59 PM anonnumberanon: lol no
09:07 PM goppo: i'm trying to build an automatic pet door that swings open when my cat returns home. what might be a low-budget way for detecting the cat from the outside using 2x, 3x AA batteries?
09:07 PM goppo: i've looked at ultrasonic sensors, but the cheap ones aren't weatherproof
09:08 PM zhanx: PIR?
09:09 PM goppo: zhanx, are cats warm enough to trigger PIR though?
09:10 PM zhanx: whats you outdoor light use for motion sensing ?
09:10 PM goppo: also, i don't think PIR last long on AA batteries
09:10 PM zhanx: add solar?
09:10 PM goppo: well, i try to keep the door as neat as possible
09:11 PM zhanx: make the panel the door?
09:12 PM zhanx: or you could make it IED style with a homemade pressure plate
09:12 PM zhanx: that triggers an interrupt which opens the door
09:13 PM anniepoo: cats should be warmer than humans
09:13 PM anniepoo: smaller mammals get warmer
09:13 PM zhanx: unless the cat is wet
09:13 PM * zhanx has a car that loves the rain
09:14 PM zhanx: cat*
09:14 PM goppo: the fur is a pretty good insulator, right
09:15 PM anniepoo: mercury switch and pressure plate
09:15 PM zhanx: in front of door is a mat, sized so cat must be on it, a couple of hacksaw blades and foam to separate them and your done
09:15 PM anniepoo: then you don't need electronics
09:15 PM anniepoo: yup
09:16 PM zhanx: unless you want it truck sized then use glass
09:16 PM anniepoo: 8cD or do the sane thing and make it cat powered
09:17 PM zhanx: i could rehash the 100's of ways i have seen ied's rigged but the foam was the most reliable
09:18 PM goppo: why a mercury switch?
09:19 PM zhanx: tilts to trigger the power
09:20 PM anniepoo: either solution has the advantage of carrying enough current that you don't need any arduino/driver/etc chain to carry it off
09:20 PM anniepoo: but i'd make it cat powered
09:20 PM zhanx: hamster powered!
09:24 PM goppo: right
09:24 PM robotustra: rat powered
09:25 PM anonnumberanon: is nrf24l still the best wireless?
09:26 PM zhanx: i use esp8266's now
09:26 PM zhanx: cheap
09:30 PM anonnumberanon: the price is not too bad yeah
09:30 PM anonnumberanon: any negatives?
09:31 PM anniepoo: 8cD time to goof off.
09:32 PM zhanx: power draw is high
09:32 PM anniepoo: Goof off step one, finish prepping for tomorrows Playing with Prolog. Step 2, make robot animations
09:34 PM anonnumberanon: zhanx how much?
09:35 PM zhanx: 50ma at 3.3v
09:35 PM anonnumberanon: in the microamps at rest?
09:35 PM zhanx: yes
09:35 PM anonnumberanon: thats not bad
09:40 PM Jak_o_Sh1dows: NFC?
10:13 PM anonnumberanon: zhanx okay that sounds really high
10:14 PM anonnumberanon: libs are available everywhere tho right?
10:14 PM zhanx: basically yes
10:28 PM anonnumberanon: what about connectin 50 of tese to one single router can I do that?
10:33 PM mun: what's 8cD?
10:35 PM zhanx: i got 16 to one so far
10:38 PM anniepoo: 8cD <-- smiley
10:38 PM anniepoo: =8cO
10:40 PM anniepoo: oh fudge, just realized an invertebrate doesn't have... vertebra
10:41 PM anniepoo: 8cd body parts rotate about center
10:41 PM z64556 is now known as z64555
10:45 PM Jak_o_Sh1dows: anniepoo, but like, your snail could be a mutant.
10:47 PM anniepoo: 8cD my snail's already complicated enough without adding that
10:47 PM anniepoo: >8@_
10:48 PM anniepoo: snails have very, very strange sex lives
10:49 PM anniepoo: going to be slow responding for a bit, I need to finish some stuff for tomorrow morning's video shoot
10:51 PM zhanx: modeling must be hard
10:51 PM zhanx: make sure you charge them robots good
11:11 PM robotustra: < anniepoo> snails have very, very strange sex lives
11:11 PM robotustra: :)
11:12 PM robotustra: because they are technically hermophrodites?
11:17 PM pokmo: anyone know of any low-powered ultrasonic sensor in a weather proof package?
11:21 PM anniepoo: oh, that's just the start of it
