12:01 AM anonnumberanon: i should probably start by getting a crash course in the wifi stack, usb stack
12:04 AM anonnumberanon: implement a safe strong usb charging solution
12:04 AM anniepoo_: honestly, if I were in your position
12:04 AM anniepoo_: I'd take somebody from marketing out to lunch and pump them
12:04 AM rue_bed: you know what we need
12:04 AM rue_bed: is a wireless usb hub
12:04 AM rue_bed: so I can plug a keyboard and mouse and sound card wirelessly into my chair or doom
12:04 AM anonnumberanon: right that sounds neat, there just would be no longer any charging involved though
12:04 AM rue_bed: of doom
12:04 AM rue_bed: yea, chair of doom needs batteries
12:04 AM anniepoo_: ok, it's late enough I'm going to go home and think about this
12:04 AM rue_bed: eyes snapped closed twice now
12:04 AM rue_bed: I have code ready to write
12:04 AM orlock: anonnumberanon: check out the low power LTE specs for IoT
12:04 AM anniepoo_: One way or the other I have to generate animations, so ultimately I need a rigged bot in blender
12:05 AM anniepoo_: so I guess I should just experiment with riggings in blender
12:06 AM anonnumberanon: orlock, will do
12:06 AM anniepoo_: I'm getting really impatient to actually SEE A SNAIL
12:06 AM anniepoo_: 8cD
12:06 AM anniepoo_: Ooh... ok, that's my real problem
12:06 AM anniepoo_: So, I'll satisfy that craving
12:07 AM anniepoo_: I have enough internal morphology to go ahead and make the shell
12:07 AM anonnumberanon: blender might do it but i know Unity deos it anniepoo_
12:07 AM anniepoo_: I can do that job
12:07 AM anniepoo_: blender has rigging
12:07 AM anniepoo_: and I can write python to export
12:07 AM anonnumberanon: like attaching 3D objects?
12:07 AM anniepoo_: I don't want to make my stack deeper
12:08 AM anniepoo_: yes, that's how 3D animation packages work
12:08 AM anniepoo_: you have 'bones' and you attach geometry to them
12:08 AM anonnumberanon: yes Unity i know cause one day i tried to make a rope in Unity and thats how they do it
12:08 AM anonnumberanon: that is C# or Javascipt
12:08 AM anniepoo_: usually there's some way to blend between 2 or more bones if you need to (eg making a human knee, some skin right around the knee partly moves with thigh, partly with calf)
12:09 AM anonnumberanon: (if you wanted to code it to control the positions of the bones mathematically like for inverse kinematics)
12:09 AM anniepoo_: then, in a real animation rig, you have secondary bones that control the 'geometry' bones
12:09 AM anniepoo_: so, for example, you want, as an animator, to be able to position a hand,
12:10 AM anniepoo_: and have inverse kinematics determine the actual joint positions
12:10 AM anniepoo_: this is standard stuff
12:10 AM anonnumberanon: right
12:11 AM anniepoo_: my long term design is to write a plug in for Blender that will warn me when I make an animation that exceeds the accelerations I can actually apply with the servos
12:11 AM anniepoo_: and clamp the motion back to them
12:11 AM anniepoo_: I can build a rig in blender, animate, and play with some confidence on the real robot
12:12 AM anniepoo_: Since making animation is a skill that takes a long time to learn,
12:12 AM anniepoo_: I might farm out the most important parts - hire a real animator
12:13 AM anniepoo_: I know better where I'm going than how to get there.
12:13 AM anniepoo_: the cost of trips around the design loop is high. So I'm being careful where I tread
12:14 AM anniepoo_: but at this point I'm thinking a quick trip around the loop might be worth it - just hobby hack together some version of the robot, then use it to learn enough to make the next version be the final one
12:15 AM anniepoo_: 8cD
12:15 AM anniepoo_: my soul feels good with that
12:26 AM anniepoo_: ok, pushed latest files, and will happily be making hardware soon
12:26 AM anniepoo_: gnite all
12:33 AM anonnumberanon: gn
12:35 AM anonnumberanon: and cool plans
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: anonnumberanon, temperature tracking of your building.
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Put a sensor every 5 metres or so.
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Get plots of the temperature flow
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Tie it into occupancy sensing as well.
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: Say you're looking for heating performance, tos ave money
02:24 AM Jak_o_Shadows: DO NOT use wifi
09:34 AM rue_house: i2c?
09:37 AM deshipu: i4c at the least
09:38 AM rue_house: wtf did aliexpress do to their site now
09:38 AM deshipu: promotion! buy now!
09:40 AM rue_house: atleast whent ehy change things they dont break functionality
09:40 AM rue_house: unlike ebay
09:41 AM rue_house: ebays 'we charged you for that, but didn't actually process the order'
09:41 AM rue_house: 'its nto our problem, take it to paypal'
09:41 AM rue_house: I dont think I can type in the morning, I KNOW I cant type int he morning
09:42 AM deshipu: I think that in China they don't let the graphic designers touch the transactional code
09:42 AM rue_house: or do sweeping database deletions?
09:42 AM deshipu: drop database orders
09:42 AM deshipu: yolo
09:43 AM rue_house: every so often on ebay, things I bought would temporarily dissapear from my purchased items list, for like 3 days
09:44 AM deshipu: that's when they have tax inspector over
09:44 AM veverak: :D
09:46 AM deshipu: it's funny, because mine never dissapear, they simply disappear
09:46 AM deshipu: maybe because I never order pears
09:46 AM rue_house: I think what I like about aliexpress is the hyper-market-ism of it
09:47 AM deshipu: it's so over the top that even they temselves don't take it seriously
09:47 AM rue_house: 1 stop for any of the parts I want, if I can work out what the chineese are calling it
09:47 AM deshipu: it's like a part of a performance, it has to be there because that's the tradition
10:51 AM rue_house: arg, all at once all sorts of things are breaking down on the new cnc I made
10:51 AM rue_house: its just broken two $5 bits
10:51 AM rue_house: I think the z stepper driver flaked out
10:51 AM anniepoo_: =8cO You didn't do a full fatique analysis first?
10:51 AM rue_house: didn't pick the bit up
10:52 AM anniepoo_: 8cD yah, death of Z axis would do that
10:52 AM rue_house: and someting happened with the pendant that was tripping its current-limited supply
10:52 AM rue_house: which I bypassed, something got hot, and now its ok !?!?!
10:53 AM rue_house: it bend a 1/8" drillbit, the 1mm carbide didn't have a chance
10:53 AM rue_house: bent
10:53 AM anniepoo_: lol - usually things getting hot is a sign things are going to fail
10:53 AM anniepoo_: 8cD
10:53 AM rue_house: but the drillbit was a different issue
10:53 AM rue_house: its just the control pendant
10:53 AM rue_house: if your not using it, it does nothing
10:54 AM rue_house: so, today, none of the worksites/job/meetings start till 10am
10:54 AM rue_house: so I guess I wait
10:59 AM rue_house: I'v been finding that a high percentage of my stuff failures latley are solder joints
10:59 AM rue_house: thats not cool cause I'v not been in a hurry making this stuff
11:02 AM anniepoo_: could be material
11:02 AM rue_house: 32 sequences per cycle, 4 steps
11:02 AM rue_house: 8 microsteps
11:03 AM rue_house: anniepoo_, so far its just been not noticing bad joints
11:03 AM rue_house: you know, when the solder dosn't quite make it around the pin, and dosn't stick to it either!?
11:03 AM rue_house: HOW THE HELL DID i MISS THAT!?
11:03 AM rue_house: kinda stuff
11:04 AM rue_house: its not happening a lot, its just the highest cause of failures I'm seeing in the stuff I'v made
11:05 AM deshipu: get some flux
11:05 AM rue_house: its flux core solder
11:05 AM deshipu: yeah, doesn't matter
11:05 AM deshipu: get a flux pen
11:06 AM rue_house: were talking 6 out of 400 joints
11:06 AM rue_house: as a general order of magnitude
11:06 AM deshipu: one is enough to spoil your day
11:07 AM rue_house: well yea
11:11 AM anniepoo_: 1. use additional flux
11:11 AM anniepoo_: 2. water soluble flux will save your sanity in the end
11:11 AM anniepoo_: 3. go slowly and look at each joint. Soldering is something you can do rapidly or well, not both
11:12 AM anniepoo_: 4. Yes, you should act rapidly when soldering. But always stop and inspect, and redo as needed.
11:12 AM anniepoo_: 5. Don't do it when you're half asleep. Fatigue is not your friend
11:13 AM anniepoo_: 6. clean, clean, clean.
11:14 AM anniepoo_: rue, your thriftiness may be getting you here. Use good quality solder, flux, and if you're working on dirty old parts, clean them off first. A pen with a 'pen eraser' or a fiberglass brush are useful
11:15 AM rue_house: yes, I know
11:15 AM rue_house: I'm still wondering if a bad joint is behind the z failure
11:15 AM anniepoo_: https://www.amazon.com/Scratch-Brush-Fiberglass-Colors-vary/dp/B0019V18D2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1490111150&sr=8-2&keywords=fiberglass+scratch+brush
11:15 AM anniepoo_: this doomober
11:16 AM rue_house: yesterday, the power supply on that machine failed, kinda, dropped to less than 10V
11:16 AM rue_house: did a load sweep on a few supplies and found a good one
11:17 AM rue_house: I love my digital load bank, I should fix it up more
11:17 AM anniepoo_: diagnose and fix
11:17 AM rue_house: its a computer power supply,
11:18 AM rue_house: I think its a ONE DAY supply
11:18 AM rue_house: won day?
11:18 AM rue_house: anyhow
11:18 AM rue_house: NEXT!
11:52 AM noproto: just got the intel zr300 yesterday
11:52 AM noproto: really hyped to do depth finally
11:53 AM noproto: it can do SLAM so maybe it can do pathfinding around a room
11:57 AM branjb: how, I thought it didn't ship till april?
12:03 PM SpeedEvil: I still wonder about simple stuff
12:03 PM anniepoo_: is this the same sensor that was marketed by creative labs a while back?
12:03 PM SpeedEvil: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-3D-Photograph-Stereoscopic-Camera-Lens-w-Clip-For-iPhone-Smart-Phone-/262891018187?hash=item3d358697cb + raspberry pi
12:03 PM anniepoo_: nvm - it's not
12:04 PM SpeedEvil: Sliding a hundred lines from the image along each other to find correlations is not particularly expensive these days
12:04 PM SpeedEvil: Even at video rates
12:49 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fih5Wpe6ac4
12:50 PM SpeedEvil: (was a neat little 2-wheel robot
12:51 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Fih5Wpe6ac4#t=14323 - PUFFER
12:52 PM SpeedEvil: pop-up folding flat explorer robots
12:57 PM deshipu: Talker
12:57 PM deshipu: 6
12:57 PM deshipu: $6.00
12:57 PM deshipu: sorry
12:57 PM deshipu: paste accident
01:43 PM robotustra: SpeedEvil: why the robot apears only once?
01:44 PM SpeedEvil: ?
01:44 PM robotustra: your videos ^
01:44 PM SpeedEvil: becasue it's a live broadcast.
01:44 PM robotustra: I see robot once and after that LIVE stream from NASA
01:45 PM SpeedEvil: that was part of the broadcast
01:45 PM robotustra: but why it shows up first time?
01:45 PM robotustra: ok

01:51 PM robotustra: 谢谢
01:51 PM robotustra: thanks
03:16 PM anniepoo_: 8cD learning a bunch of machine learning for work
03:16 PM anniepoo_: 8cD should be useful for robots
04:29 PM iztech_ is now known as iztech
07:34 PM rue_house: hmmm
07:34 PM rue_house: eek, where did tom go?
