[00:07:06] <rue_house> csrew french
[00:07:35] <theBear> mon dieu ! et vu, rue ? et vu ?
[00:08:45] <theBear> heh, i can't hold that against a guy as special as you, but i do USUALLY here the statement from those of, shall we see, lower socio-intellinomic brackets than yourself <grin>
[00:09:08] <rue_house> french are annoying
[00:14:49] <anonnumberanon1> ^
[00:14:56] <anonnumberanon1> -1
[00:15:28] <z64555> only the annoying french are annoying
[00:15:35] <anonnumberanon1> iss like canadians, they're neither french, neither americans
[00:15:50] <anonnumberanon1> nor nor
[00:15:55] <anonnumberanon1> =AND
[00:16:48] <anonnumberanon1> rue_house, if you see the C program in the comments on that giant robot video you'll know who posted it ^_^
[00:20:07] <anonnumberanon1> not that you would understand it the way i wrote it, it would have been more of a theBear style
[00:21:17] <theBear> rue_house, heh, a lot of them are, but like everywhere, there are a few rare exceptions.... main reason i been brushing up is 'cos as far as movies, specially latenight fta broadcast ones, they got a lotta stuff that's better than those endlessly repeating sales shows, or i dunno, everybody loves raymond followed by king of queens, both double or triple episode chunks <grin>
[00:21:25] <anonnumberanon1> Le Bère
[00:22:03] <theBear> and we all know how err, vacuous (sp? you know, hoover-like) 99% of modern or even pre-modern, american/hollywood movies are ;-)
[00:22:38] * z64555 plays an angry piano riff
[00:23:41] * z64555 holds up a dialog card
[00:23:56] <anonnumberanon1> hey I got a 2004 CVPI
[00:24:13] <anonnumberanon1> installing a trailer hitch on it soon, got the parts
[00:24:23] <anonnumberanon1> been into cars a lot lately
[00:24:51] <anonnumberanon1> well, literally inside them fixing stuff
[00:24:51] <z64555> oh the crown victoria, police cruiser
[00:25:11] <anonnumberanon1> yeah got it really cheap and in great shape
[00:25:17] <z64555> whatcha gonna haul?
[00:25:45] <anonnumberanon1> anything i couldn't carry in the huge cargo space of the minivan im selling soon
[00:26:00] <anonnumberanon1> plus i was thinking of towing cars home and fixing them for extra cash
[00:26:29] <anonnumberanon1> tried to buy a welder today but the butthole didn't let me have it for the price I wanted
[00:26:48] <z64555> why didnt he?
[00:26:50] <anonnumberanon1> 290 firm
[00:26:55] <anonnumberanon1> i was set at 260
[00:27:12] <anonnumberanon1> he claimed he had an offer for 280
[00:27:23] <anonnumberanon1> thing's been on Craigslist for 27 days...
[00:27:34] <anonnumberanon1> fucking college kids these days
[00:29:00] <z64555> hm.
[00:29:10] <z64555> what kind of welder?
[00:29:30] <anonnumberanon1> lincoln electric 125
[00:29:46] * z64555 has no idea what that is
[00:29:47] <anonnumberanon1> same i had to sell before i moved to NY
[00:29:55] <z64555> wire or stick
[00:30:18] <anonnumberanon1> weld up to quarter inch steel or something it's pretty versatile, it was wire mig
[00:33:28] <z64555> hm, I'm partial to stick welders, but then again I don't do a bunch of welding
[00:33:44] <z64555> my Dad has a wire welder, think it's also an LE 125
[00:33:57] <z64555> or one of the little ones
[00:34:43] <anonnumberanon1> yeah
[00:36:12] <z64555> reading up about the wheel rims being faulty
[00:36:42] <z64555> rusting early, and/or bad welds which air from the tire can leak through
[00:43:22] <anonnumberanon1> on crown vics?
[00:44:14] <z64555> yes
[00:44:41] <z64555> If you're lucky, they had already been replaced/fixed
[01:15:00] <anonnumberanon1> mine look okay, ill be painting them soon though cause they have surface rust
[03:39:00] <Jak_o_Shadows> rue_house, I am very very very tempted to use your dxf+openscad method of making models at the moment. I am making something to be laser cut - I've drawn the outlines as separate sketches, but laying them out is looking like it's going to be a pain
[09:26:07] <rue_house> shouldn't be
[09:26:23] <rue_house> you just give them all a different offset
[09:26:35] <rue_house> the cam software should be able to do it for you really...
[09:27:00] <rue_house> besides, you cant use openscad with laser cutting, theya re only 2d
[14:37:53] <bindigoat> http://space-technology.freeforums.net/thread/1/welcome-new-forum
[19:38:04] <Tom_L> log
[19:38:04] <c-log> Tom_L: Today's Log http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:82/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23robotics/2016-12-21.html
[19:38:36] <Tom_L> .
[21:39:32] <pokmo> hi
[21:39:49] <pokmo> how should one test the reliability of a servo? should one just spend hours turning it?
[22:02:40] <anniepoo_> well, eventually that will cause it to fail, in which case it's reliability will be known
[22:03:13] <anniepoo_> but running it a little while to see if you have an 'infant death' would be reasonable
[22:03:28] <anniepoo_> otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with depending on the manufacturer
[22:03:31] <orlock> yeah
[22:03:42] <orlock> get their QC output reports
[22:03:53] <orlock> or buy anough that you can do a statistically significant test on some
[22:04:19] <orlock> i have about 10 or 15kg or so of Nema23's at home
[22:04:25] <orlock> which have all failed one test or another
[22:04:46] <orlock> but likely work perfectly well - just they have gone through stringent testing
[22:04:47] <anniepoo_> how reliable do you need? that's probably in terms of 'bad thing X will happen'
[22:04:53] <orlock> i dont even know what some of them are
[22:05:11] <orlock> the tests, that is
[22:07:32] <anniepoo_> if X is 'my robot might look stupid'/'my rc airplane will crash'/'my self bondage gear won't release' you have increasing levels of reliability demanded
[22:27:38] <theBear> don't panic, X is the irc robot, he's not qualified to do anything involved any kinda submission in either direction, letalone steer something with wings attached and he knows it, and he's o.k with that... that's the kinda cool-dude X is
[22:38:23] <pokmo> but how are you meant to test a servo? how about turning it by 10 degrees every 40ms?
[22:38:31] <pokmo> with a load?
[22:45:10] <Snert> listen for crunching gears. Put a small load on it and exercise it end2end.
[22:46:44] <Snert> hold the arm with a finger. just enuff for a load on it.
[23:49:51] <Triffid_Hunter> pokmo: reliability testing is a statistical process, you'd need to test hundreds or more at their rated limits, time how long each one takes to fail and work out an average lifetime
