[01:35:55] <rue_shop3> printer is keepin me up again!
[02:07:24] <vicarion> do 3d printers ever catch fire?
[02:12:46] <mrdata_> i suppose they are not immune to doing so
[02:12:51] <mrdata_> plastic and wood can burn
[02:13:22] <mrdata_> but in a malfunction will the heater get hot enough to ignite something? idk
[02:17:41] <vicarion> i'd just be worried about leaving it on for hours or days, while i go out
[02:17:58] <vicarion> can't really afford a new place
[02:19:48] <mrdata_> normal operation keeps the heating element away that it could ignite
[02:20:11] <mrdata_> but what abnormal circumstances can happen?
[02:20:47] <mrdata_> s/away/away from anything/
[02:22:18] <mrdata_> thermoplastic melts at temperatures below the ignition point of paper, 150C versus about 233C iircx
[02:22:32] <mrdata_> so for that it's fairly safe
[02:25:33] <mrdata_> but i wonder, is there anyway to make it light a cigarette, say?
[02:26:11] <mrdata_> the bare nichrome wire can get hot enough for that, but it's surrounded by a block, isnt it?
[02:27:54] <mrdata_> in other news,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGrC0w_XuIk
[02:30:49] <mrdata_> vicarion, other things you want to avoid:
https://assets.wired.com/photos/w_582/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/robot-explosion.gif
[02:31:30] <vicarion> yeah, especially while i'm working on it. how did that one explode?
[02:43:31] <mrdata_> idk
[02:43:48] <mrdata_> pretty spectacular tho
[02:47:13] <Triffid_Hunter> vicarion: there's been at least one fire, likely exacerbated by unsafe storage of volatiles like acetone
[02:55:56] <Triffid_Hunter> mrdata_: that looks like a lipo fire triggered some sort of fuel
[03:03:22] <mrdata_> rapid deflagration
[03:03:38] <mrdata_> some fumes in the air?
[03:09:36] <Triffid_Hunter> mrdata_: yeah the initial gas cloud is presumably something flammable that hasn't ignited yet, goes up pretty quick when the fire comes behind it
[03:10:19] <mrdata_> the drama
[03:11:56] <SpeedEvil> the li-ion battery will be cooking off inside the box, and producing lots of flammable vapour, which yes then goes off
[03:29:12] <Jak_o_Shadows> yo
[09:07:10] <rue_house> overcharged battery
[09:08:27] <rue_house> someone was trying to get too much juice out of their batteries
[09:17:34] <rue_house> (by putting too much juice in )
[09:18:03] <rue_house> its a big robot too
[09:18:12] <rue_house> or a small room
[09:36:03] <theBear> hmm, dare i say, whichever it is, if you able to see the thing, the which should be fairly easy to identify :)
[11:25:53] <veverak> vicarion: there was almost case of fire
[11:26:04] <veverak> friend of mine misstyped temperature in pronterface for 2500C
[11:26:10] <veverak> (old printer few years ago)
[11:26:19] <veverak> and when it heated enough, temp sensor dropped out
[11:26:29] <veverak> so it was heating a lot ...
[11:26:44] <veverak> but today, there are safeties for that in printers usually
[13:09:29] <delinquentme> Hio all. Question on stepper motor timings ... Im running a stepper w a step delay of 20k microseconds ... and as its running Im hearing not only the typical engagement cadence of the stepper ... but also another recurring "beat" ... its happening ~3x /second ....
[13:10:04] <delinquentme> Im just curious what this thing is... this 3x/sec beat is that I'm hearting
[17:55:56] <kasious> any thoughts on how i could bleed air from a closed loop of pressurized water? i need to incorporate a vent cycle into the loop to relieve air would temporarily bypassing to a solenoid be adequate?
[17:56:26] <SpeedEvil> an air release valve
[17:56:28] <kasious> or having a solenoid open to bypass
[17:56:54] <SpeedEvil> http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/heating-controls-valves-c436/altecnic-valves-c421/altecnic-caleffi-robocal-bottle-air-vent-pp9592?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=altecnic-caleffi-robocal-bottle-air-vent-altecnic-3-8-quot-3-8-quot-3-8-502430&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=CPaws4bG_s8CFQkq0wodPSQIhA
[17:57:35] <kasious> hmm
[17:59:37] <kasious> http://www.chromalox.com/catalog/resources/DG-packaged-systems-heat-transfer-water.pdf
[18:34:03] <z64555> I don't know how much fluid pressure those air vents can handle
[19:47:12] <SpeedEvil> they're designed to cope with several bar
[22:02:01] <anonnumberanon> sup my brothers
[22:11:31] <anonnumberanon> EastsideR, quad tree decomposition... huh, ill look into it
[22:30:16] * anonnumberanon sends out his ascii art circuit to be printed at the PCB shop
[23:21:32] <OSaucey> Got a question related to robots on a conveyor system with vision system. There's a camera taking pictures of things on the conveyor as they go buy, then Robot 1 rearranges the things on the conveyor so they are facing proper direction, then Robot 2 will take groups off the conveyor:
http://i.imgur.com/TTOCoT4.png
[23:22:29] <anonnumberanon> And the question was never asked...
[23:22:36] <OSaucey> How do you use vision on a constantly moving conveyor? The items the camera takes a picture of will be in a different location by the time Robot 1 can pick them up. How do you do the offset for that? Do you take into account the speed of the conveyor
[23:23:05] <Tom_L> you know how fast the belt moves
[23:23:09] <Tom_L> it has sensors on it
[23:23:19] <OSaucey> Alright.
[23:24:02] <LoRez> object tracking is a thing even if the conveyer speed isn't known
[23:24:49] <anonnumberanon> Yeah all you need is to see something on the belt, and when you see something you start the picture's frame on that pixel, wait till it ends. Use OpenCV for it. This will be hard by the way.
[23:25:22] <Tom_L> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfojHo9cVOk
[23:25:27] <Tom_L> 1 min in approx
[23:25:48] <Tom_L> not the one i was looking for..
[23:26:03] <Tom_L> 2:14 may be
[23:26:24] <OSaucey> It was sorta in reference to this video really
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClXfa4stfJM
[23:26:25] <Tom_L> 2 conveyors
[23:26:37] <OSaucey> Neither robot is in the FOV of the camera system
[23:27:15] <OSaucey> Though it looks like the robot moving the batteries to the other conveyor almost has vision, but IDT it does
[23:33:08] <anonnumberanon> the careers opportunities at Fanuc are fucking sad
[23:33:09] <anonnumberanon> http://www.fanucamerica.com/job-postings/job-postings.aspx
[23:33:54] <anonnumberanon> Company's not in an innovation phase it would seem.
