[00:01:02] <rue_house> current control
[00:01:27] <rue_house> I had some fun designing a system for doing software current control
[00:04:04] <z64555> instead of using a pull-down resistor, you'd use a pull-up resistor
[00:04:14] <z64555> I think
[00:05:01] <z64555> hm.
[00:05:28] <z64555> a pull-down resistor might work if it's on the tail-end of the circuit
[00:05:44] * z64555 babels nonsense
[01:41:34] <rue_bed> yea, really no idea what your on about
[03:57:41] <Donitz> yo lo
[03:57:59] <Donitz> Any idea where I can find a flat round matte platform under 50cm radius?
[03:58:12] <Donitz> Don't have a workshop to cut my own pieces :P
[04:04:51] <Triffid_Hunter> Donitz: drink coaster?
[04:05:10] <Donitz> hmm, potentially
[04:05:13] <Donitz> if I can find one large enough
[04:05:26] <Donitz> 15-25 cm radius would be optimal
[04:05:30] <Donitz> maybe 10
[04:05:46] <Donitz> need a spinning platform for my lego 3d object scanner
[04:07:04] <Donitz> actually, 15-25 is pretty damn large, 10 is enough
[04:08:59] <deshipu> Donitz: get a turntable player?
[04:09:20] <Donitz> I already have mindstorm servos
[04:09:29] <Donitz> which give me the actual angle of the platform
[04:09:31] <deshipu> from some used electronics store
[04:09:35] <deshipu> should be dirt cheap
[04:09:45] <deshipu> it can even be broken, as long as the turntable itself works
[04:10:18] <deshipu> I mean, a vinyl record player
[04:11:10] <Donitz> hmm, maybe. But it's a long way to go for a spinning platform
[04:11:29] <Donitz> I mean I haven't actually seen a turntable player in any local store in I don't know how long
[04:11:41] <Donitz> and if I have it would have been one of those expensive hipster ones
[04:12:08] <deshipu> get one from a junk yard or used stuff store
[04:12:22] <Donitz> I doubt there are any junkyards left
[04:12:25] <Donitz> everything just goes to stormossen
[04:12:38] <Donitz> but a second hand store may have one
[04:12:41] <deshipu> also, perhaps a vinyl record would be a good platform?
[04:12:51] <deshipu> if you matte it with sandpaper
[04:13:04] <Donitz> true. It doens't matter if it's completely matte as long as it's symmetrical
[04:13:10] <Triffid_Hunter> microwave tray :P
[04:13:19] <Donitz> mine's not flat
[04:13:22] <Donitz> and made out of glass
[04:13:28] <deshipu> a clock from a dollar store
[04:14:05] <deshipu> a plastic cutting board
[04:14:08] <Donitz> dollar stores, another thing we don't have
[04:14:21] <Donitz> in Finland
[04:14:37] <deshipu> oh, finland
[04:14:38] <Donitz> but the kitchen supplies section may have something at clas ollson
[04:14:57] <deshipu> I guess you could just cut a slice of a tree and burn it to be black
[04:15:39] <deshipu> everyone has a chainsaw in finland, right?
[04:16:29] <Donitz> a lot of people yeah
[04:16:31] <deshipu> just like canada
[04:17:34] <z64555> could just attach a piece of plywood to a suitably strong motor, then sand/lathe awaya material to the size you want
[04:17:53] <Donitz> again, I wish I had a workshop
[04:17:58] <Donitz> apartment living sucks
[04:18:09] <z64555> oooh. yeah. especially for making stuff
[04:18:21] <Donitz> that's why I use lego :P
[04:18:27] <z64555> Any maker shops around?
[04:18:35] <z64555> that's a recent thing
[04:18:37] <Donitz> there should be something like that in vaasa I think
[04:18:43] <Donitz> or at least some kind of 3d printing place
[04:18:54] <Donitz> though I have a 3d printer
[04:19:07] <Donitz> but I don't have a fume hood and the PLA fumes makes my throat itchy
[04:19:20] <z64555> they sometimes have machining tools and other odds and ends
[04:19:40] <z64555> Don't have a stove?
[04:19:45] <z64555> *kitchen stove
[04:20:05] <Donitz> it doesn't feel the same when I use a stove
[04:20:23] <Donitz> I doubt PLA superfine particles are that harmful but they do make my throat scratch
[04:20:42] <Donitz> same thing with sawdust
[04:21:32] <Donitz> (I mean I assume PLA particles are biodegradable, but I may be wrong)
[04:24:28] <z64555> er, no, that's not what I meant
[04:24:46] <z64555> If you have a kitchen stove, then you have a vent, as per a building safety code
[04:24:50] <Donitz> ah, well I thought you hinted that a stove produce as many superfine particles as a 3d pritner
[04:24:52] <Donitz> printer*
[04:25:10] <Donitz> my stove went is just one of those lazy holes in the wall
[04:25:13] <Donitz> vent*
[04:25:33] <z64555> better than a closet, but yeah, wouldn't risk it
[04:53:10] <veverak> ok
[04:53:28] <veverak> what I shall procrastrinate today to focus on my work
[05:43:51] <anonnumberanon> try noy to sleep, drink, eat, have any social interactions and you should be good
[05:51:38] <deshipu> yay, at last I am doing something right!
[07:32:43] <anonnumberanon> :3
[09:05:08] <z64555> ugh, I gotta get these boxes of stuff out of my room
[09:11:37] <SpeedEvil> z64555: ebay 'Surprise lottery box'
[09:18:47] <z64555> hmmm...
[09:22:08] <Donitz> god I'm bored
[09:22:38] <Donitz> I'll just head home because nothing is getting done
[09:23:38] <z64555> Nothing gets done if you don't do anything. :D
[09:35:24] <SpeedEvil> Minions.
[09:42:23] <anonnumberanon> lol
[09:42:37] <anonnumberanon> How can one be bored??
[09:43:19] <deshipu> with a drill
[09:43:35] <deshipu> [badum-tshhh]
[11:39:06] <anonnumberanon> 10/10 robotics joke
[11:55:39] <anonnumberanon> deshipu, But you appear to be digging a hole for yourself :3
[13:52:19] <SpeedEvil> Procrastination: Considering making a 6m tall robot to avoid working on your roof.
[14:33:04] <z64555> seems legit
[14:42:03] <Snert_> I've seen a gutter crawling cleaner bot. Cleans out the rain gutters.
[14:55:14] <anonnumberanon> Classify the debris such as leaves, by size and humidity, to be able to better angle the robot's mouth.
[14:55:50] <anonnumberanon> YOu know, how you do it with your hand in a more claw shaped if there is less water in the leaves in the gutter?
[14:55:54] <anonnumberanon> sigh...
[15:12:51] <z64555> just get some compressed air and blow it out
[15:13:17] <z64555> :3
[16:16:53] <anonnumberanon> Gotta test this new firmware on the oscilloscope :)
[17:07:29] <Snert_> bouncity bouncity bounc
[17:07:53] <Snert_> lol gotta love them square waves :)
[17:38:20] <veverak> deshipu: you were solving how to "Sense" load with PWM servos
[17:38:31] <veverak> how was it working?
[17:43:00] <z64555> only way I can see that working is if you sense how much current the servo is pulling from the supply
[17:46:15] <veverak> z64555: I think deshipu managed to do it with voltage
[17:46:26] <veverak> but, not sure how was it working
[18:39:37] <z64555> uC's sense voltage, but with the right application of a resistor, you can measure current
[19:56:38] <rue_house> you didn't read my servo doc
[19:56:47] <rue_house> you can know the servo load by the drive pulse time
[19:56:57] <rue_house> you dont need an analog sensor
[19:57:07] <rue_house> digital with a pulse time capture
[19:57:42] <rue_house> http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/elex/hobbyservo/servo101.html
[19:57:56] <rue_house> dont read it, dont beleve me, and dont try it anyhow
[20:00:19] <rue_house> then go on and on for about 4 months talking about what should work without ever trying anything
[20:06:28] <rue_house> you just need 1 diode on the servo ground line with a shunt resistor across it, make sure the voltage across the diode is higher than the minimum for a logical high on the microcontroller
[20:06:45] <rue_house> that said, i'v used the BE junction of a transistor for the same thing
[20:07:07] <rue_house> you would want to make sure the BE could handle the full load current of the servo
[20:07:27] <rue_house> the collector of course would go to a pullup to logic high, and the microcontroller input
[20:08:03] <rue_house> set a BE shunt resistor so that the idle logic current of the servo cant trigger it, but its triggered when the motor draws power
[22:30:22] * z64555 clicks the link
[23:56:48] <z64555> rue_house: which would require modification of the servo, if I'm reading this right
