00:36 anonnumberanon then work on it more in depth later
11:05 akem monster robot is in the place
19:27 robotustra evening
19:31 robotustra did firmware for my base
19:31 robotustra now have to control it from edison
19:33 Snert_ robotustra: which base block do you use, Intel's or sparkfun?
19:34 Snert_ (Ihave both)
19:36 robotustra small one
19:36 robotustra I think sparkfun
19:36 robotustra 30x60 mm
19:37 robotustra I programmed arduino for the base, can control it from terminal
20:32 akem wow
20:32 akem i must be invited to join #java
20:32 akem and register for #android-dev
20:33 akem what a world we compute it.
20:34 robotustra closed channel?
20:36 akem for java it is
20:37 akem registration is free but i'm not, i used to
20:38 akem i'm waiting servos and hardware comming from china to france takes ages
20:39 robotustra 2 weeks?
20:39 robotustra it takes usually 2-3 weeks to get to canada
20:40 akem i was trying to code some java camera on android but i got some troubles with updates i tried threads/timer..., maybe someone will be interested into this
20:40 akem sometimes more over there but usually yea
20:40 robotustra I don't touch Java even with 6 feet stick
20:41 akem its dx, in some place wharehouse to ship faster, but not here, sometimes you gotta wait like 1 week before they ship
20:41 akem hehe
20:42 robotustra I do not consider Java as a serious programming languege
20:43 akem on android you dont have much choice, i don't know if i could access hardware with C/C++
20:43 robotustra you can't directly
20:43 akem i don't like java either
20:43 robotustra that's why android - is useles for me
20:43 akem where are you in canada Quebec?
20:43 robotustra montreal
20:44 akem next big town
20:44 robotustra yeah, but still chiper to buy from china
20:44 akem but all the cheap android device around are awesome, you got camera, microphones etc
20:45 akem i like e android OS very much
20:45 robotustra as I told already many times - we are not so reach to buy cheap stuff
20:45 akem robotustra so you using windows/linux?
20:45 robotustra I prefer QNX with c/c++
20:45 robotustra yes
20:45 robotustra mainly linux
20:46 akem okay i remember this from long long ago
20:46 robotustra still have 2 pc with windows
20:47 robotustra I'm not into android devices or XOs or MacOS
20:47 robotustra either too expensive or do not allow to use hardware directly
20:48 akem well through java and android sdk, thats why i was digging this
20:48 robotustra actually Xos permit to run native C code, but it's closed hardware
20:49 akem no idea
20:49 robotustra what do you want from camera?
20:49 robotustra take video?
20:49 akem picture sentry gun
20:49 robotustra snapshots?
20:50 robotustra most probably sdk permit to do it
20:50 akem yes, i did not try video yet
20:50 robotustra it should be an example
20:50 robotustra I'm 100% sure
20:51 akem yes, i got picture shots, but threads are not doing so well with my multiple bitmaps
20:51 akem then after that gotta process the picture too
20:52 robotustra http://www.edumobile.org/android/camera-preview-example-in-android-programming/
20:52 akem but ill look back at this later, i like ruby also, we have ruboto on android very good one
20:52 robotustra https://android.googlesource.com/platform/development/+/master/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/graphics/CameraPreview.java
20:53 akem yes i ve seen them tutorial robotustra
20:53 robotustra http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html
20:53 robotustra may be you have not set permitions?
20:54 akem my main problem is not the picture but the update of bitmaps, but its down for now
20:54 akem robotustra what you up to on your side in montreal?
20:55 robotustra translate pleas
20:55 robotustra e
20:56 robotustra or speack french
20:56 akem no way hehe
20:56 robotustra you don't know french?
20:57 robotustra do you mean what I'm doing here?
20:57 robotustra or what?
20:57 akem sure i do i am french sir
20:57 robotustra I'm not :)
20:58 robotustra I'm doing my robot
20:58 akem not on this chan its english spoken chan, robotustra you can sing like celine? :>
20:58 robotustra I think no
20:58 akem okay
20:59 robotustra I just did firmware and tested it
20:59 akem what chip?
20:59 robotustra arduino micro
21:00 robotustra next one is edison
21:01 robotustra did I show you what I'm doing?
21:01 robotustra I don't remember
21:01 robotustra too many ppl in here
21:01 akem then good luck with that, im off for some youtubing and/or sleeping its like 3:30 àm
21:02 robotustra ok, look my channel also
21:17 copycat is there any offline programming options for gantry robots/
21:21 robotustra what is gantry robot?
21:22 orlock DO you know what a gantry is?
21:22 copycat uhm cartesian robot?
21:22 robotustra portal robot?
21:23 robotustra X Y Z?
21:23 robotustra like CNC machine
21:23 copycat yes
21:23 copycat X Y Z
21:24 newradio how do you pick a battery for a project? I'm working on a robotic project, and am having a hard time optimizing battery. Was using LiPo's - but don't want the dangers that come with them. I also have a size requirement and want it to be light, and not too expensive. My current Lipo is 11V and 5000mAh. Something similar in weight, bigger in size (by 2x at most) but safer, with larger mAh would be nice
21:26 robotustra bigger LIPo battery?
21:26 robotustra there is more expensive
21:26 robotustra LiFePO4
21:27 newradio robotustra: Something easier to maintain, which does not blast?
21:27 robotustra about the same weight
21:27 newradio robotustra: What is a good source of LiFePo4 batteries? Who makes good ones with good cut off circuits ?
21:27 robotustra china?
21:28 robotustra but they are more expensive that LiPo
21:28 robotustra 2000+ recharges
21:28 robotustra aliexpress.com
21:28 robotustra I'm going to buy there
21:30 robotustra http://www.aliexpress.com/item/DHL-EMS-shipping-2pcs-lot-Energy-Saving-12Ah-10V-LiFePo4-Battery-Pack-For-Solar-Power-Street/1454385895.html?spm=2114.031010208.3.9.SWUlE9&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_6,searchweb201644_3_79_78_77_82_80_62,searchweb201560_5
21:31 robotustra or this one is quite cheap http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-LiFePO4-12v-10AH-lithium-iron-phosphate-battery-monitor-lighting-rechargeable-battery/32321357697.html?spm=2114.031010208.8.13.2ayHOI
21:38 newradio robotustra: the first one does not have any control circuitry to cut off power when under charged? right? how do you handle that? your own cut off?
21:40 newradio newradio: how are you planning to charge the cheap one?
21:41 newradio The expensive one is too big for my project
21:41 robotustra usually they have cut off circuit inside
21:42 newradio http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/221832317496?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82
21:42 robotustra I have ont battery like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-15000mAh-Li-ion-Super-Rechargeable-Battery-Pack-AC-Charger-with-EU-Plug-/371323910215?hash=item5674a13847:g:gD0AAOSwNSxU6-rq
21:43 robotustra yeah, this one is seems good
21:43 robotustra so I use 12V LiPo battery 12 V 15Ah, but I didn't test is fully
21:43 robotustra I think it's not 15AH
21:44 newradio the one you linked? the last one you linked is super cheap! $36?
21:44 robotustra but it has current limiter inside
21:44 robotustra yeah, but be careful, china could cheat you
21:44 robotustra it has built in current limiter and cut off at 12.00V
21:46 newradio hence i came to the room - was hoping someone had already used a battery i could use, and I could rely on it. Any chance I can get a 19V battery that is reliable?
21:46 newradio similar size/config
21:46 robotustra but still, LiPo have about 500+ recharges in the best case, but LiFePo4 could be recharged 2000+ times
21:47 robotustra I'm not sure. 19V is non standard pack
21:47 newradio nice
21:47 newradio k - then lets just use 12V
21:48 robotustra 12V 15AH LiPo I think is quite safe to use
21:49 robotustra after LiFePo4 apeared on the market, the price of LiPo dropped about 2 times
21:49 robotustra it's my observations
21:49 newradio http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-LiFePO4-12v-10AH-lithium-iron-phosphate-battery-monitor-lighting-rechargeable-battery/32321357697.html?spm=2114.031010208.8.13.2ayHOI - have you used it?
21:50 robotustra this one - not yet, but I need 24V 20AH
21:50 robotustra And I'll buy it soon
21:50 robotustra actually I need 2
21:50 robotustra Tesla car use them
21:51 robotustra they are tolerant to overcharge
21:51 robotustra do not need balance
21:51 robotustra so they a total win except price
21:52 newradio which one?
21:52 robotustra LiFePo4
21:52 newradio what does tesla use? is that publicly available?
21:53 robotustra it's a lifepo batteries but round ones
21:53 robotustra cylindrical
21:53 newradio are they available publicly?
21:53 newradio at a decent price?
21:53 robotustra not sure
21:54 newradio whats the closest to it that sells publicly?
21:54 robotustra what are you doing?
21:54 robotustra I think they use something like this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/40152-LiFePO4-Battery-Cell-3-2V-15AH/2025722422.html?spm=2114.10010108.0.104.sXM46Y
21:54 newradio running a vehicle which has weight on it (50lb)
21:55 newradio how does tesla survive 10 years with that? 2000 recharges is 6 years - isnt it?
21:56 robotustra it could be replaced
21:56 newradio It will be painful to replace all the batteries every 5 years
21:57 robotustra as soon as I know - you have 2 options when you charge tesla - either you wait 30-40 min to charge, or you do fast swap of battery for 80 dollars
21:57 robotustra that's the plan of Musk
21:58 robotustra he is going to bould the network of chargers over all US
21:58 robotustra where you can charge Tesla for free
21:58 newradio what is fast swap of batteries?
21:58 robotustra replace
21:59 robotustra at charging station
21:59 robotustra take out discharged one and take charged
21:59 newradio so the charging station would have a real physical battery?
21:59 robotustra yes
22:00 newradio wow! This guy is interesting
22:00 robotustra if you in a hurry - you can replace
22:00 robotustra if not - charge you own
22:00 newradio i see
22:00 newradio what are you building?
22:02 robotustra a robot
22:03 robotustra robotustra.ca/my-robot
22:03 newradio what kind? how much battery are you planning to put into it?
22:03 robotustra 2 x 24V 20AH
22:05 newradio oh - so you are really lifting a human being :)
22:05 newradio mine is a toy
22:05 robotustra trying to
22:06 robotustra robotustra.ca/my-robot-done
22:06 robotustra what's done yet
22:07 newradio do you have a CNC?
22:07 robotustra yes
22:08 newradio which one?
22:08 robotustra I did it myself
22:08 robotustra robotustra.ca/my-cnc
22:09 robotustra robotustra.ca/my-cnc-mill
22:09 robotustra robotustra.ca/my-cnc-mill2
22:09 robotustra two last links
22:09 robotustra this was my first robot
22:10 robotustra cnc, working area 40 x 20 x 10 cm
22:11 robotustra 1.5 kW spindle
22:12 newradio did you make the cnc yourself?
22:12 robotustra yes
22:21 robotustra ok, I go sleep
22:21 robotustra bye
