05:40 akem the head with the wire only moving on the y axis and the plate on x/z, i found this a bit strange cauze its moving the whole object, i see that it does well like that anyway, possibly standard for desktop 3d printer now?
11:30 akem roomba demonstrates some love feelings today, experts said that he could turns out to be a christian device after all.
12:25 deshipu akem: http://www.beaverandsteve.com/index.php?comic=2
13:20 akem what if toasters taste like tasty toasted toasts? or something like that
13:22 akem windows eiiight, please save us from the world of tomorrooww
13:23 robopal whats up akem
13:24 akem not much robopal, drinking coffee in the evening, what about you?
13:25 akem deshipu blink
13:30 robopal ok
13:32 Seagullarity Anyone have any experience with cellular network incorporated within drones or similar?
13:33 Seagullarity I would like to discuss cellular drones indepth
13:56 SpeedEvil http://imgur.com/gallery/YWd2v8p
13:57 Seagullarity Yo SpeedEvil! ;)
14:10 deshipu veverak: I wonder how hard it would be to 3d-print LEGO blocks that could house the 9g servos
14:10 veverak why lego blocks?
14:10 veverak btw: should be doable
14:10 veverak depends on the shape
14:10 veverak :)
14:10 Seagullarity9262 I have seen people 3d-print lego blocks before
14:11 veverak deshipu: I was thinking about printing something that would hold two 9g servos in '90 degrees rotation'
14:11 veverak soem way you glue them on tote
14:11 veverak if made right, it should be light part...
14:11 verak usually fancies solution where glue is not involved over where i
14:11 Seagullarity9262 Ok so it is a servos with 9 gram force?
14:12 veverak well, towerpro SG90 to be exact
14:12 veverak :)
14:13 Seagullarity9262 ok give me a second and i check it out
14:14 Seagullarity9262 Is the construction supposed to be 100% 3D printed lego parts?
14:14 Seagullarity9262 the frame
14:15 Seagullarity9262 What i would do is take the measurements of the servo and 3D print around it haha
14:15 Snert_ I'm just gonna have to get a 3d printer to make parts for my arm.
14:16 veverak Seagullarity9262: that sounds stupid
14:16 veverak get cad model of servo
14:16 veverak model lego part the way you want it to hold servo
14:16 veverak print it
14:16 rue_more SpeedEvil, as momma cat JUST RUNS AWAY and lets the kittens fend for themselvs
14:16 Seagullarity9262 thats what i ment
14:17 veverak oh
14:17 veverak you sounded like you would actually place servo into the printer during print, sorry :)
14:18 rue_more Seagullarity9262,
14:18 Seagullarity9262 Well same thing. Thats what i ment but designing with cad is the best way.
14:18 rue_more http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:757713
14:18 rue_more or just using the one someone else already made..
14:18 Seagullarity9262 rue_more is the boss! He said it. Why reinvent the wheel :D
14:19 e_more looks around at all the square wheels people have been saying are fine for 3000 y
14:20 Seagullarity9262 But still easy. Get a Cad-model of the servo and the cad model of the lego part. Multiply as many parts needed of the lego to hold the servo. place the model of the servo "within" these and then press delete to make the hole for it within the parts ;)
14:20 veverak yeah
14:20 veverak "I neeed part for this"
14:20 veverak A. check thingieverse
14:20 veverak B. check youmagine
14:20 rue_more its a funny world, if you tell people that with a little thinking, the round pegs can be put in the round holes and the square pegs in the square holes, people say your overthinking it and keep randomly smashing them in with hammers, ocassionally commenting how sometimes they fit nice
14:20 veverak C. check ...
14:21 veverak D. design it :)
14:21 rue_more E. write a HD44780 LCD library
14:22 Seagullarity9262 Veverak. solved? :)
14:22 rue_more F write a command editor for linux
14:22 veverak lol :)
14:22 veverak Seagullarity9262: wat? it was not mine problem
14:22 veverak :D
14:22 Seagullarity9262 aa sorry i missed out
14:23 Seagullarity9262 ofc. It was Snert_ :D
14:23 veverak rue_more: actually, that's one thing about 3d printers
14:23 veverak you can actually overthink anything
14:23 veverak :D
14:24 rue_more 4 years, and $30000 later, the project was finished, and nobody who knew what it was for or why it was built was around.
14:24 veverak and it is not really as bad, becuase it practically takes only your time
14:24 Seagullarity9262 I don't know shit about 3d modelling or printing.
14:24 rue_more its ok, most of the things on thingverse cant acually BE made
14:25 veverak exactly
14:25 veverak frined of mine got fascinated of everything that is on thingieverse
14:25 veverak I told her it's ok, as long as there is photo of that model actually printed :)
14:25 Seagullarity9262 I am starting to get disturbed by the people at the bar which i am currently sitting at. The keep looking at me due to the fact that i am sitting here all alone drinking beer with my macbook pro(product placement sorry! haha!)
14:25 rue_more there are people who just design and post things, things that never are made and never could be
14:26 verak got only one such a th
14:26 veverak :D
14:26 veverak out of 6 designs afaik
14:26 Seagullarity9262 Do i come off as that kind of guy?
14:26 veverak it's normal by my standarts
14:26 veverak :)
14:26 veverak (that means I saw people doing it other then me)
14:27 veverak (and I saw more than one!)
14:27 Seagullarity9262 I am thinking about cellular networks within drones.. Wanna discuss?
14:27 rue_more Seagullarity9262, what have you made?
14:27 armyofevilrobots @rue_more There is an app for those people. It’s called Pinterest ;)
14:27 rue_more heh, cloud mesh network :)
14:27 rue_more heh
14:27 Seagullarity9262 :(
14:28 rue_more ok I have an hour before my meeting, need to go install a computer
14:28 veverak :)
14:28 Seagullarity9262 Cya
14:28 Seagullarity9262 I am kind of new here. What is the "general" level of knowledge?
14:29 rue_more about 0.3 (87 people here now)
14:29 Snert_ yea! got one of my steppers/encoders and decoding chips.
14:29 rue_more but some people are about 2.3
14:29 rue_more (out of 1)
14:30 Snert_ looks like it's Avago. Didn't like the U.S. Digital offering.
14:31 Seagullarity9262 It depends on how you value knowledge. To me either you know or you don't. The rating system is binary. Either it is or it isn't. I am one of those who isn't(to play it fair!)!
14:31 Snert_ more research to be done 4 sure but Avago looks like the winner.
14:31 Seagullarity9262 Avago nice
14:32 Snert_ their stuph aint cheap.
14:32 Snert_ but it's killer.
14:33 Seagullarity9262 Don't we all dream of driving our drones across nations with a 3D-view using Occulus Rift v.8(future) or similar on our heads with full resolution :)
14:33 rue_more yea FAA..
14:35 Seagullarity9262 Ok... So say i need to have an exact representation of objects within my room in real time
14:35 veverak hmm
14:36 veverak I wonder how hard it would be to make p2p network with esp8266
14:36 veverak or, something similar to it ...
14:36 veverak and other devices ofc :)
14:37 Seagullarity9262 optics is a relative new area. I know how to handle data but i am not red up about the alternatives that is currently on the market.
14:38 Seagullarity9262 I am generally looking into the best parts. Is there any certain standard of optics i should look into? "Lasers"?
14:40 Snert_ what facet of optics....for what purpose?
14:40 Seagullarity9262 To measure distances
14:40 Snert_ 100 miles or 20 feet
14:41 Seagullarity9262 Haha here we go... 1-2 kilometers
14:41 Snert_ 2,000 feet up in the air....hmmmm.
14:42 Snert_ more like 3x that but good enuff.
14:45 Seagullarity9262 Is there such things?
14:45 Snert_ well, gps type stuff.
14:46 Seagullarity9262 Yes i know but gps does not feature items that are not "known" of. ;)
14:46 Snert_ but optics for long distances is a mystery foe me.
15:07 Seagullarity9262 So if i want sensors to measure distances to walls etc inside a apartment and to "recognize" objects such as chairs and tables so that i can use this measurements to with vectors in real time produce a 3D model seen from the angle which the sensors are pointing at?
15:16 Seagullarity9262 Snert_ Help me out
15:16 Snert_ I dunno what provides the kind of accuracy and intelligence you're asking for.
15:17 Seagullarity9262 i was thinking about many sensors
15:17 Seagullarity9262 like a helmet of sensors
15:17 Snert_ the subject of machine vision and recognizing objects coupled with distance measuring I guess.
15:17 Seagullarity9262 a hub with 100x some sensor
15:17 Seagullarity9262 exactly!
15:18 Snert_ seems like 2 different subjects...that would be combined.
15:18 Seagullarity9262 I am a programmer, that is my area.
15:18 Keukpa if you just need to 'detect' an object and not 'recognise' it... then a 360x360 lidar sensor
15:18 Snert_ but approachable as 2 sepeate things.
15:19 Seagullarity9262 Well i know that detect is easy and possible(i have already done this several times)
15:19 Snert_ there's sonic ranging. And IR ranging. IR I've seen for close up ranging.
15:20 Snert_ IR for like 2-10cm away. for accuracy.
15:20 Seagullarity9262 I need something like many lasers.
15:21 Seagullarity9262 maybe a hybrid setup is something i need?
15:22 Seagullarity9262 Something to detect objects on far distance(a chair looks like a square) and after that when i come closer i can use something that is more for closer distances to get a more "exact" representation of the object(in terms of depth of the table, rounded corners etc)
15:22 Snert_ the totality of it seems like alot.
15:23 Snert_ I'd focus on the individual parts.
15:23 Seagullarity9262 Yes i know. But i am after doing something lifechanging
15:23 Seagullarity9262 digital representation of real world in realtime :) i know quirky
15:24 Snert_ shit, I'd be happy to make a robot arm that can sort jelly beans by color.
15:24 Snert_ let alone recognize multi-dimensional objects.
15:25 Keukpa stick an xbox kinect on your scooter...job done! ;)
15:27 Seagullarity9262 well color is not important
15:27 Seagullarity9262 just to that extent that chair looks like a "chair" and not a cube
17:20 robopal2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-fxij3zM7g
17:20 robopal2 very interesting
17:26 Anniepoo =8cO tubes!
18:08 adam789654123 hey Anniepoo
18:10 Anniepoo hey adam
18:10 adam789654123 :D
18:10 adam789654123 im a programming fool!
18:10 adam789654123 how are you today?
18:11 Anniepoo 8cD I'm doing OK. Prologgin' away
18:11 Anniepoo wondering why a random bit of code runs slow
18:11 adam789654123 Prolog eh? ....... no help can i be
18:11 Anniepoo and thinking about memoizing it
18:11 adam789654123 yeah
18:11 adam789654123 that *might* be a good idea
18:12 adam789654123 what kind of inputs does it take?
18:12 adam789654123 you can set up the memoizer test to account for any kind of equalities
18:12 Anniepoo geometry of a drawing and picks up a bunch of info about prices of components and produces a total price
18:12 adam789654123 for example, multiple input functions
18:12 adam789654123 cool!
18:12 adam789654123 :D
18:13 Anniepoo 8cD writing commercial system - MaaS system - in Prolog
18:14 adam789654123 what is Prolog good for?
18:14 adam789654123 what are its strengths?
18:14 adam789654123 ive heard interesting things about it
18:15 Anniepoo it's fast to develop in
18:16 adam789654123 is it good for geometry?
18:16 adam789654123 maybe like, geometry and engineering math?
18:16 Anniepoo yes - several big users are doing semantic web with geographic data
18:16 adam789654123 hmmm....
18:16 adam789654123 very interesting
18:16 adam789654123 i want to learn Prolog
18:17 Anniepoo I wouldn't choose prolog for a number crunching task like aerodynamic calculations
18:17 adam789654123 first, i want to go through Paul Gram's lisp implemenation
18:17 Anniepoo but it's infinite arithmetic everywhere
18:17 Anniepoo tghats really useful for us
18:17 adam789654123 his lisp implemention of prolog, i mean
18:17 adam789654123 ok
18:18 Anniepoo we have to do lots of geometric reasoning - we check drawings against design rules
18:18 dmiles_afk Anniepoo, i hear that a lot (if you are trying to calculate lots of floating point things) ya know I discovered it is about on par with java
18:18 Anniepoo I agree, dmiles
18:18 adam789654123 thats good
18:18 dmiles_afk its slightly better than java in the respect that it least its infinate number
18:18 adam789654123 functional speed approximating imperitive speed
18:18 adam789654123 cool
18:19 Anniepoo and you can do things in rationals, avoiding roundoff error
18:19 adam789654123 it can be done
18:19 Anniepoo in general, however, it runs faster than faster languages
18:19 adam789654123 im not a big fan of floating point numbers
18:19 adam789654123 then again, im not an engineer
18:19 Anniepoo because you're more likely to be able to optimize
18:19 dmiles_afk (the reason i say that is robokind about 13 years ago ported its facial recogniton software to java.. it went for 5 seconds to 5 minutes)
18:20 adam789654123 haha.... im not suprised
18:20 adam789654123 but that because of the kind of problem
18:20 Anniepoo most of our work is being done in fixed point.
18:20 adam789654123 that its facial recognition lends itself to functional programming
18:20 dmiles_afk well it was mainly the boxing and unboxing of each nuimber
18:20 adam789654123 i *like* arbitrary sized rationals
18:21 Anniepoo we use the lack of bounds on integer size to eliminate accumulated errors
18:21 adam789654123 but its not always practical i guess
18:21 adam789654123 how does that work Anniepoo ?
18:21 Anniepoo our fundamental unit is 1/72000 inch.
18:22 adam789654123 what approximates that measurement?
18:22 adam789654123 i mean, that's *tiny*
18:22 Anniepoo yes, correct
18:22 adam789654123 haha
18:22 Anniepoo we want it tiny
18:22 adam789654123 what is about 1/72000 inch?
18:23 adam789654123 is an atom that small?
18:23 Anniepoo no, it's about the size of a bacterium
18:23 adam789654123 wow
18:23 adam789654123 my sense of scale is off here i guess
18:24 adam789654123 but that is enough for very smooth gears
18:24 adam789654123 or rubbing parts
18:24 Anniepoo yes
18:24 adam789654123 but there are also tolerances in engineering
18:24 adam789654123 i recall from the bit of dabbling in electronics tolerances
18:25 adam789654123 hmmmm.....
18:25 Anniepoo 1/100_000 is near that. And even grinding tolerances are much larger than that
18:26 adam789654123 im a bit confused, because im not familiar
18:26 adam789654123 "larger" as in literally bigger, or smaller?
18:26 adam789654123 and 1/100,00 is near what?
18:27 adam789654123 :note the missing 0
18:27 Anniepoo well, 10 microinches is 25 microns
18:27 Anniepoo 100 microinches (what you wrote) is 0.1 thousandths
18:28 Anniepoo it's the smallest unit measured by a good quality standard micrometer
18:28 adam789654123 oh.... i see
18:28 Anniepoo hang on, lemme get a dial caliper, I'll measure some stuff
18:29 adam789654123 hey robotust1a
18:30 Anniepoo I'm elderly, sorta, and my hair's become fine. My hair's about 0.0011 inch diameter
18:30 adam789654123 wow...
18:30 adam789654123 what a tool!
18:30 Anniepoo 8cD $20 through harbor freight
18:31 adam789654123 ohhhhh........
18:31 adam789654123 :D
18:31 adam789654123 what is 8cO?
18:31 Anniepoo that measurement might be off slightly - I brought it from the cold shop, it's still cold, but was in my warm hands
18:31 adam789654123 what is with, 8c*?
18:31 Anniepoo oh, sorry, that's my crazy smilies
18:31 Anniepoo dang, no yesbot
18:32 adam789654123 ah
18:32 adam789654123 ic
18:32 adam789654123 i thought maybe a product number
18:32 Anniepoo 8cO <-- panic horror or surprise
18:32 adam789654123 now it just adds to your character
18:32 adam789654123 ;)
18:32 adam789654123 ahhh
18:32 Anniepoo ;CO
18:32 adam789654123 nice one
18:32 Anniepoo >(8c) <-- wearing a space helmet
18:33 Anniepoo -C|:^{[ the general
18:33 adam789654123 ]:-)} <-- bearded king?
18:33 Anniepoo >:c. <-- rabbit
18:34 adam789654123 i dont see the rabit
18:34 adam789654123 :P
18:35 adam789654123 ,-) <-- one eyed wink?
18:35 Anniepoo )#@%&|8cD <-- annie in a Carmen Miranda hat
18:36 adam789654123 [':-|) <-- fez?
18:36 adam789654123 Anniepoo: looks like a censored curse word
18:38 adam789654123 thanks for the chat Anniepoo. interesting stuff.
18:38 am789654123 puts his nose in some
18:38 Anniepoo anyway, if you want to make accurate stuff, all you actually need is a way to measure it
18:38 Anniepoo tytl
18:38 adam789654123 yeah
18:38 adam789654123 im interested in such
18:39 adam789654123 and an accurate way to cut it?
18:39 adam789654123 ahhhh
18:39 adam789654123 you mean using the service
18:39 adam789654123 i see
18:39 adam789654123 yeah
18:39 adam789654123 i need to get myself one of those calipers
18:39 adam789654123 20 dollars is seeming like alot of money at the moment though
18:40 adam789654123 i also have other odds and ends i want to pick up
18:40 Anniepoo dial caliper, or an electronic caliper
18:40 adam789654123 like a compass
18:40 adam789654123 every crazy should own a compass
18:41 Anniepoo they don't even teach shop in schools any more
18:41 adam789654123 i did metal shop
18:41 adam789654123 wasnt much good
18:41 adam789654123 but it was interesting
18:41 adam789654123 definitely one of the classes that i ..... learned stuff that i can remember
18:41 adam789654123 that i learned with my fingertips
18:41 Anniepoo 8cD metalworking is interesting, and fun, and actually useful in life
18:42 Anniepoo I'm sure that's why they eliminated it or underfund it til it dies
18:42 adam789654123 i havent needed it, but ive been carpenter
18:42 adam789654123 but, i would like to do metal work
18:42 Anniepoo I learned making physics experimental gear
18:42 adam789654123 problem is, not many shops
18:42 adam789654123 yeah.... thats what i want to do
18:42 adam789654123 eventually
18:42 am789654123 needs to study physics f
18:42 Anniepoo yup
18:43 adam789654123 :)
18:43 Anniepoo alternatively, go to vo tech school and become a machinist
18:46 adam789654123 Anniepoo: i thought about that, but there arent many machinist jobs, unless i move to a city
18:47 adam789654123 the thing that caught my eye, as of late, is mechatronics
18:47 adam789654123 its an electronical engineering mechanical engineering hybrid
18:47 Anniepoo actually, there are machinist jobs in the country - more, proportionally , than in the city
18:47 adam789654123 oh
18:47 adam789654123 ok
18:48 adam789654123 somebody was giving me a different impression
18:48 adam789654123 not that ive done research on it
18:48 Anniepoo farmers constantly are customers
18:48 adam789654123 ahhhhh
18:48 adam789654123 that makes perfect sense
18:48 Anniepoo same with ranching, logging, any heavy industry like that
18:48 am789654123 slaps for
18:48 adam789654123 yeah
18:48 adam789654123 i just ..... never thought about it
18:49 Anniepoo I'm in a tiny town, there's a machine shop in the next tiny town over
18:49 Anniepoo I associate machine shops with rural areas
18:49 adam789654123 i should find the closest machine shops to here
18:49 adam789654123 wow....
18:49 adam789654123 you made my evening Anniepoo
18:49 adam789654123 :D
18:49 adam789654123 this is great news for me
18:49 adam789654123 i have to research this further
18:50 Anniepoo where are you?
18:50 adam789654123 Pennsilvania
18:50 adam789654123 uhhh....
18:50 adam789654123 central eastern Pensy
18:50 Anniepoo coal mines... no coal mine ever needed a machine shop ;-)
18:51 adam789654123 hmmm.....
18:51 adam789654123 they are mining coal presumably, eh....
18:51 adam789654123 shows you how out of the loop i am
18:51 adam789654123 this is great stuff for me though
18:52 adam789654123 it gives me a strategic orientation
18:52 adam789654123 in persusing the machinist trade
18:52 adam789654123 somehow, you turned into my guidance councelor
18:52 adam789654123 go figure
18:52 adam789654123 :P

19:01 adam789654123 im wondering if i can use something like openstreet maps to plot the territory
19:01 adam789654123 every use "marble"?
19:02 adam789654123 it would be cool to use a program like that to plot out say, metalshops and businesses in the area
