06:55 codepython7771 anyone here?
07:03 Tom_itx nope
07:06 deshipu just us, mice
08:49 veverak deshipu: that price for pycon
08:49 veverak was it really so high at the beginning?
08:51 deshipu veverak: ?
08:51 deshipu veverak: so high?
08:52 veverak ok
08:52 veverak high/low is relative, I agree
08:53 deshipu I don't understand the question
08:57 veverak nah, nevermind
09:18 rue_house oh, the rtc has a AM/PM flag, thats why the time screws up
09:19 deshipu stupid
09:20 rue_house (DS1287GetHours() & 0b00001111)
09:20 rue_house that'll trim it
11:48 LiohAu SpeedEvil, rue_house, deshipu, veverak (and any other active guys :P) would you have a ball screw online reseller to recommend (not ebay/alibaba plz :D)
11:48 SpeedEvil chaturbate
11:49 LiohAu rofl
11:49 LiohAu ball reseller maybe, but not "ball screw" :P
11:49 SpeedEvil Tehre are many vendors
11:49 SpeedEvil I assume you mean cheap though
11:50 LiohAu In my country I can't find one that sell online..
11:50 robopal have you tried a local shop?
11:51 robopal you are in france??
11:51 LiohAu robopal: yes
11:52 robopal mon ami!
11:52 LiohAu youpi !
11:52 robopal surely you can, it is... like the biggest country in EU
11:53 robopal problem is, how you say "ball screw" in french, that could be tricky
11:53 LiohAu vis à bille
11:53 veverak LiohAu: ehmmm
11:54 veverak pick shop that garantuee you some quality levels
11:54 veverak like tolerance
11:54 LiohAu the problem in france, is that reseller do not provide the pricing of all the products. So you waste days in catalogs, and when you have THE appropriate part, you can finally get a price that is probably out of your budget..
11:55 veverak yeah
11:55 veverak and than you go to rbay
11:55 LiohAu for example, i'm almost sure I can exclure roller screw in my case, but can't find a *** price to confirm.
11:55 veverak *ebay
11:55 password2 LiohAu, i have that exact same issue
11:55 LiohAu really this is a nightmare, pricing should be mandatory, we are in 2015, I hope amazon will eat them all.
11:56 password2 load of places here you need to call before they even consider giving a price
11:56 LiohAu password2: you're from EU ?
11:56 password2 nope
11:56 LiohAu so they have this behavior in the US too?
11:56 password2 i dont know
11:58 password2 I'm not from the US either
12:00 veverak LiohAu: it's normal more or less
12:00 LiohAu password2: where are you ? :d
12:00 veverak because it's common to order screws with some adjustmens
12:01 veverak that are with low torelances
12:01 LiohAu veverak: well they could at least display a pricing range
12:01 LiohAu they are screw for less than 100$, and some other for more than 1000$
12:01 veverak yeah
12:01 veverak and?
12:01 LiohAu I don't really want to design a product and discover at the end that I have to remake everything because it's out of budget
12:02 veverak do proper research than
12:03 veverak that prices usuallu got certain point
12:03 veverak because AGAIN it depends of properties of the rod you require
12:04 veverak and not, they are not amateurs friendly
12:04 LiohAu well, that's probably why there are so much software startup and few hardware ones.
12:05 LiohAu you don't have to call anybody to get a library on github...
12:05 LiohAu even paid software is sold online.
12:06 password2 do prototypes
12:06 LiohAu password2: that's what I try to do.
12:07 LiohAu but not all companies provide samples for their products, so the cost matter.
12:08 password2 I live in South-Africa
12:08 LiohAu ok.
12:08 password2 i dont bother with samples
12:08 LiohAu is south africa active in robotics? except for Chappy ? :P
12:08 password2 very few people do robotics here
12:09 password2 lots of technicans in industry
12:09 veverak LiohAu: do more research about quality of ball screws
12:10 password2 we even have local brands for soldering irons and multimeter which are not bad, but somehow very few people doing it as a hobby
12:10 veverak pick what you need
12:10 veverak main parameter is "straightness" anyway
12:11 LiohAu veverak: I know the parameters, and that's why i'll pick the best reference. And after that i'll discover that it is out of budget, so I have to restart the picking process...
12:12 LiohAu if you don't know the prices of cars, which one would you ask ? A Toyota Yaris or an Audi R8 ?
12:13 veverak Yeah
12:13 veverak LiohAu: that's called development I suppose
12:13 LiohAu that's the same thing. If I have no prices I select the Audi R8 (or if you prefer porsche it's ok :P).
12:14 LiohAu Right now I don't know the prices of roller screws, but I know they are better than ball screw, which are better than lead screw. So I want a roller screw
12:15 LiohAu well anyway, we are not going to change the world, but If you become a B2B stuff reseller, please make your prices (or at least prices range) public !
14:23 waldo Waldo has big, big problem!
14:23 waldo Waldo created beautiful robot princess bride
14:23 waldo but Waldo has fallen ill with that most dastardly ailment.... Love!
14:24 waldo How can Waldo make the robot princess his bride??
14:32 deshipu veverak: so are you coming to Brno?
14:52 waldo Greetings moon_! I am Waldo!
14:52 waldo Help me make my robot princess into my bride!
14:59 veverak deshipu: I am studying in Brno
14:59 veverak :)
15:38 deshipu veverak: ah, so even if you don't come to the conference, we can have a beer and ribs :P
17:05 LiohAu_ (looking at all your ideas :P)
17:06 LiohAu_ worm drive sounds cool
17:06 Snert__ that way you can build the base and have it rotate and be completely working then attach an arm to the top plate.
17:07 deshipu worm drive also has a huge ratio
17:07 deshipu but I think it's not very accurate?
17:10 LiohAu_ what would be the proper way to do it, putting the "screw" part on a servo shaft and fixing the gear to the turntable system you talked about?
17:11 deshipu yes
17:12 LiohAu_ well actually I guess i'll need two bearings for the screw part right?
17:13 deshipu depending on the load
17:13 LiohAu_ hm, calculating the load for the leadscrew was relatively easy, but for this, I have to estimate the weight of the lead screw system..
17:15 deshipu would a bike chain work?
17:15 deshipu with sprockets
17:15 deshipu not a different axis, but you can move the motor away
17:16 LiohAu_ no, I already excluded chain for the lead screw because of the noise
17:16 LiohAu_ so that would be contradictory to put one for this system
17:19 LiohAu_ by the way, anybody knows a really simple (and non realistic) software that allow to simulate mechanics stuff like belt, chains, gear etc.. ?
17:19 orlock i think those requirements are pretty much mutually exclusive
17:20 LiohAu_ non realistic and simple?
17:20 LiohAu_ well what I meant is not a solidworks like thing.
17:21 deshipu LiohAu_: hmm, Incredible Machine game, maybe?
17:22 orlock deshipu: thats what i was going to say next hah
17:22 orlock good old TIM
17:22 deshipu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1YjvbBGsnM
17:23 LiohAu_ when I was a teenager, at school we used this to learn basic of electronics : http://www.sumdog.com/en/Crocodile_Physics/
17:23 LiohAu_ i'm looking at something as dumb
17:24 deshipu incredible machine may be dumber
17:24 LiohAu_ I only find a game with that name oO
17:25 deshipu it is a game
17:25 LiohAu_ well, no i'm not looking at a game
17:25 deshipu for
17:25 LiohAu_ i'm looking at a way to make dirty sketch with gearing belt, ..
17:26 deshipu you are looking for a way
17:26 LiohAu_ something smarted than my paper, and something dumber than a CAD software like SW/catia and others gaz machine.
17:26 deshipu jug caps and rubber loops?
17:27 deshipu and some nails
17:27 deshipu and a piece of wood
17:27 LiohAu_ software? :P
17:28 deshipu hardware-aceleration!
17:28 deshipu look, it's going to be accurate down to the quantum effects
17:29 deshipu better than you get with any software!
17:29 LiohAu_ something as dumb as this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COHcuq-yg34 but with 3D would be awesome
17:37 LiohAu_ well just discovered http://www.robotmarketplace.com looks like they have a lot of products.
17:37 LiohAu_ AND THEY DISPLAY PRICES !!!! :P
17:43 SpeedEvil LiohAu_: Do a mod for goat simulator
17:43 LiohAu_ .
17:44 LiohAu_ usually it's the newbie that trolls :P
17:44 LiohAu_ (so it should be me)
17:44 SIRlabRobotics Hello guys
17:48 LiohAu_ hello
17:49 SIRlabRobotics I'm new here. Does anyone knows an precise way to read an encoder in arduino ?
17:53 SpeedEvil What encoder.
17:54 SIRlabRobotics Quadrature optical encoders.
17:58 orlock SIRlabRobotics: interuppts i think?
17:59 orlock got my blinking light working correctly
17:59 orlock dry ground joint was causing issues
17:59 orlock been playing with ESP8266 too
17:59 orlock has a few interesting behaviours compared to avr's
18:00 orlock you can have a functioning sketch, and loose electrical conenctions to for exampkle an i2c device will trigger a watchdog reset timer
18:01 orlock even if you have a "hello world" serial printline in your setup
18:01 orlock it will wtg reset before that!
18:10 SIRlabRobotics Thanks orlock, I had some issues using atmega 32u4. Do you recommend other microcontroller?
