12:14 mr_snowf1ake any of you use an ethernet based hokuyo sensor? i'm not understanding the basics of how to connect it. i figure i can just connect it straight to the ethernet port of my computer?
12:16 Snert_ got docs or a spec sheet?
12:17 mr_snowf1ake Snert_: this is what i found: https://acroname.com/sites/default/files/assets/ust-10lx_specification.pdf
12:18 Snert_ Interface Ethernet 100 BASE - TX <-- so yes, an RJ-45 ethernet connector. Go to a switch first.
12:19 Snert_ it might take an ethernet xover cable to go strait to your computer.
12:19 Snert_ but get link light by hooking it directly to a switch first.
12:19 Snert_ know what good looks like.
12:20 Snert_ then connect it to your computer.
12:20 Snert_ no link light = cross over cable needed.
12:21 mr_snowf1ake is the left green light the link light?
12:21 Snert_ it will be the one that lights up when you plug it into the switch.
12:21 Snert_ the other is data activity.
12:22 mr_snowf1ake okay, the speed indicator is set to be green (100-Mbps), and the link/activity indicator is off so i guess i need to put it through a switch.
12:23 Snert_ prove it before spending any $
12:24 mr_snowf1ake well i have a switch sitting right next to me too. i've tried it both by hooking up to the switch and also by hooking it up directly and didn't get anywhere with either... i think it's my network settings
12:24 mr_snowf1ake i have my ipv4 settings set to manual
12:24 Snert_ must be. link is all hardware related. It has nothing to do with data.
12:24 Snert_ you have nothing if you don't have a link light.
12:25 mr_snowf1ake ahh okay
12:25 mr_snowf1ake makes sense
12:25 Snert_ cross over adapters on ebay for nothing.
12:26 Snert_ I get the 6" xover adapters cause that make anylength cable a cross over cable.
12:26 Snert_ but hell, hack off the end and re-crimp if ya want.
12:26 mr_snowf1ake huh
12:27 mr_snowf1ake the hokuyo actually comes with a short little ethernet cable that is connected directly to the sensor
12:27 mr_snowf1ake so i can't really just swap them out
12:27 mr_snowf1ake i can just use the switch if that's the case. do i also need a modem?
12:28 Snert_ a modem wouldn't have anything to do with a valid ethernet connection with link light.
12:28 mr_snowf1ake when i connect it to the switch the link light comes on, but the other one doesn't
12:28 Snert_ different subject entirely. I have no clue how you're going to get into this mystery device.
12:29 Snert_ ok ya got link.
12:29 mr_snowf1ake there is a ros package
12:29 mr_snowf1ake okay, cool
12:29 Snert_ now diddle your data settings until you get activity light flashing.
12:30 Snert_ a simple dhcp request should generate blinky.
12:31 Snert_ but.....
12:32 Snert_ evidently it has a preset static ip addy.
12:32 Snert_ IP
12:32 Snert_ Initial value :
12:32 Snert_ 192.168.0.10
12:32 Snert_ IP
12:32 Snert_ Initial value :
12:32 Snert_ 192.168.0.10
12:33 Snert_ so maybe you can ping that address right now.
12:38 Snert_ what is this? A turrent guidance/foe detection mechanism for a 20mm chanin gun? lol
14:08 mr_snowf1ake Snert_: sorry, i got sucked into a meeting :(
14:09 mr_snowf1ake and yes, it's for a octocopter carrying two 20mm chain guns :P
15:01 mr_snowf1ake and shoot... i accidentally broke the power circuitry for it haha
21:47 rue_shop4 if the string is too short, use a hyperdimention to get the points closer togethor
23:20 anonnumberanon What joints in a humanoid robot require the strongest servos? I have servos and then I have two much stronger servos. Haven't decided where to put these two yet.
23:22 zhanx lift vs rotation
23:23 orlock anonnumberanon: Servos would not go in the joints
23:24 orlock Theres a humanoid robot parts thing on thingiverse
23:24 anonnumberanon orlock, im making this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiJhlflpGEo
23:24 anonnumberanon wondering really if I should place the stronger servos in the ankles or the hips
23:25 anonnumberanon I'm thinking the ankles.
23:25 zhanx orlock, fyi they build robots out of servo's all the time and i did also
23:25 zhanx remember my spider bot?
23:35 orlock zhanx: yeah, i mean - onless you need 180 degree rotation, better to offset it so the servo isnt the joint itself
23:35 orlock depends on how "humanoid" you want
23:35 zhanx true
23:35 orlock but then i saw the picture
23:35 zhanx i only needed 60 degrees max
23:36 orlock http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18939
23:36 zhanx slow nets here
23:36 orlock sooo tiiired
23:37 zhanx i cleaned the house. worked out. made dinner took care of a sick kid
23:37 orlock nodding off at my desk :-\

23:41 orlock didnt quite get it done in time
23:41 orlock almost there
23:41 orlock just some soldering and coding, tiny bit of cad and printing
23:41 zhanx nice
23:41 orlock http://en.crypt.net.au/TStar/
23:41 zhanx low bandwidth?
23:42 orlock yeah they all massive sorry
23:42 zhanx next week i hope to have this internet crap fixed
23:42 zhanx 286k sucks
23:49 anonnumberanon let's see if i can post the robot's leg
23:50 anonnumberanon http://95.85.8.177/20151007_0011web.jpg
23:51 anonnumberanon the IP is my website, feel free..
23:54 zhanx first joint after the hip
23:54 zhanx it takes the most
23:54 zhanx 6 dof is nice tho
23:56 zhanx the mg995's are they better that the mg835's?
