09:43 rue_bed 16 levels of depth at 60fps
11:16 rue_house oh yea
11:22 Tom_itx sore today
11:22 rue_house did you try to sleep in the dryer while it was on again?
11:23 Tom_itx uh huh
11:23 Tom_itx crawling around helping the dish guy string new cable
11:23 rue_house hah, thats his job :)
11:23 Tom_itx yeah but he was doing me some favors along the way too
11:24 Tom_itx so i didn't mind
11:24 Tom_itx i'd rather have a neat installation than have shit strung all over the house
11:24 rue_house there is that too
11:25 Tom_itx i let him get by without updating 2 of em
11:25 Tom_itx one would have been near impossible
11:25 Tom_itx and the other not quite as bad but i don't think i'll ever use it
11:27 rue_house the heated bed on the reprap burned out the transformer I had running it :/
11:27 rue_house need to find a 24V transformer rated at more than 10A
11:28 Tom_itx wind a torroid
12:55 rue_house that was my largest toroid
21:10 eadthem With sheet metal i need to be able to fold in to a box
21:10 eadthem would A366/1008 cold roll or A569/ASTM A1011 hot roll be easer to work?
21:10 eadthem i have access to a very cheep pressbreak, and normal hand tools.
21:11 eadthem ile need to fold the sides up to make a half inch lip on each side and then fold it to a box shape
21:11 Hyratel you can make a box with two U-shaped halves and a Brake
21:11 Hyratel the limiting factor is fold adjacency
21:11 eadthem the end profile was to be 1/2 inch high 5 inches wide so a |_______| shape
21:11 Hyratel https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4hxl8mibd2iqcz0/AACaBog1rhJn9N4GyoOezQBFa?dl=0
21:12 eadthem and then i was going to cut notches in to the sides to make a 14x18 inch box
21:13 eadthem so just wondering if there will be any workability issues with a 30 thou thick peice of that
21:41 ace4016 hrm...
21:54 eadthem o went with the 1008 cold for all the parts
21:54 eadthem as it was the same price and had no millscale
21:56 SpeedEvil eadthem: making half inch lips is dead easy
21:56 SpeedEvil you pretty much can do it with just a small vice
21:57 SpeedEvil put in vice, bend section 5 degrees or so, then move along and repeat
21:57 SpeedEvil With it setup right, you can do it without clamping it
22:09 Hyratel SpeedEvil, yeah
22:09 Hyratel if all you have is a brake though you can still make a pretty decent box
22:09 Hyratel two C shaped peices that overlap the tabs to the spine of the other
22:12 eadthem ya i figured the half inch lip would be sufficant to make it strong
22:12 eadthem .030 inches thick
22:12 ace4016 it seems like the parts needed to make a CNC aren't that bad...maybe
22:13 eadthem my hangup on makeing a CNC was always the spindle
22:13 ace4016 why so?
22:13 eadthem i wanted to be able to use a CAT or ISO or BT tool holder, and thats pritty much where the project went on hold
22:14 ace4016 hrm...
22:14 eadthem small but still a tool holder
22:17 ace4016 by that, you mean you wanted the spindle to be able to be fitted with a CAT, ISO, or BT tool holder?
22:25 Hyratel eadthem, http://hackaday.com/2014/08/03/brushless-dc-motor-used-for-high-speed-cnc-spindle/
22:26 eadthem a ER16 collet will fit that?
22:26 eadthem that would have to be a low KV motor
22:26 Hyratel look at the specs dude
22:27 eadthem mmm i wonder if i built his speed control :p
22:27 eadthem 10K that would do well for wood i guess
22:28 eadthem ya i had planned on using a brushless system for the motor
22:29 eadthem i guess the bearings in a normal motor are probably fine for wood.
22:30 ace4016 do you need higher than normal RPM for wood?
22:30 eadthem wood routers run 9K to 32K
22:30 eadthem aluminum is less than 10K generaly
22:30 eadthem steel is slow, even mild steel
22:30 ace4016 hrm...
22:31 eadthem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speeds_and_feeds
22:31 eadthem see the chart
22:31 eadthem for a 1/2 inch endmill or mill (The max you would probably want for a hobby machine)
22:32 eadthem 1.57 inches circumprence
22:33 eadthem so surface feet per min * 7.64 = RPM
22:33 eadthem so aluminum for a half inch endmill is 2674
22:34 eadthem most steels at 100SFPM is 764RPM
22:34 eadthem i doubt a home machine could do more than mild steel, or other steels in very small cuts.
22:37 eadthem So direct drive will be ok for aluminum, wood, plastic, and some free maching or lead steels, brass and copper
22:40 ace4016 hrm

22:45 Hyratel http://crafts.ly/crafts/diy-brushless-spindle
22:45 Hyratel eadthem,
22:46 ace4016 hah, chinese company's website has a popup of a suggestively posed woman wanting to chat for help, remeniscant of adult entertainment websites
22:48 eadthem i see the photo
22:48 eadthem but when you click on it the crappy website loads somethign totaly unrelated
22:48 eadthem but ya i had thought of something like that
