01:34 eadthem Hyratel1 what dose the maker plate of the motor have on it
01:34 eadthem i bought a replacement 3/4 Horse motor for a whirlpool washer to power the bandsaw i built
01:34 Hyratel1 1750 RPM, 115v @ 60Hz, 7.5A peak
01:34 eadthem so i know a bit about wireing them
01:34 Hyratel1 marked 1/2 Horse
01:35 eadthem k how many wires dose it have and is there a part number
01:35 eadthem anywehre
01:35 Hyratel1 https://i.imgur.com/x3VthST.jpg?1
01:35 Hyratel1 https://imgur.com/YeI212M
01:36 Hyratel1 it's the GE - Black/blue/orange
01:37 eadthem any other wires
01:37 Hyratel1 it has the full starter switch
01:38 eadthem rigth
01:38 eadthem right
01:38 Hyratel1 as seen in the ...2M pic
01:38 eadthem points 2 5 7 6 1 are all on the motor
01:39 Hyratel1 the switch module is bolted to the motor, with the Flylever against the switch knuckle
01:39 eadthem k so there shuld be a pair for the startcap
01:39 eadthem and a startcap
01:39 Hyratel1 is present
01:39 Hyratel1 striped white/red wires
01:40 eadthem k do you have a purple and red-black ?
01:40 Hyratel1 checking
01:41 eadthem ok
01:41 eadthem do you have a picture of the motor, or its model number so i can pull a photo up
01:41 eadthem ?
01:42 eadthem it appears GE dosent have many wires, its a terminal block on the govenor switch
01:50 Hyratel1 the motor is held on the bracket with beastly retaining clips
01:53 eadthem im heading to bed
01:54 eadthem most likely there a header on the motor
01:54 Hyratel1 https://imgur.com/a/1AW7o
01:54 eadthem ahh
01:54 eadthem perfect
01:54 Hyratel1 it took hella beating to get the drum belt pulley off
01:54 Hyratel1 finally got it though
01:55 Hyratel1 the fanbelt pulley came off with no fuss
01:55 Hyratel1 the wire I'm holding looped is the red/black
01:55 Hyratel1 the two below it go to the cap
01:56 eadthem so hook your cap to 5 & 6, Hook 7 to hot (Via fuse or sutable 8-15 amp breaker, You can pull one from a old UPS or some power strips), hook 2 to your Beefy start swtich, hook 1 to neutral
01:56 Hyratel1 is the second picture clear enough? it was a trick to get the lens in a place it could even see the text
01:56 Hyratel1 thanks
01:56 eadthem the first was sufficant
01:56 eadthem essentaly i told you to hook it up like the diagram
01:57 Hyratel1 yeah, i figured
01:57 eadthem Do not skip on the fuse and breaker, Both for proofing, just a thermal breaker is fine once you know its wired right
01:57 eadthem If you have a variac i highly recommend it.
01:57 Hyratel1 I have one but it's too weak to handle this monster
01:57 Hyratel1 it's only a 3 Amp
01:57 eadthem alternaitvely hooking a hotplate or toster in serise with the motor will work
01:57 Hyratel1 mtulti-role benchtop power supply
01:57 eadthem 3Amp will be enough
01:58 eadthem 7.5Amps is for full load current
01:58 Hyratel1 yeah, figured
01:58 Hyratel1 and the Variac has a realtime voltage and amperage monitor
01:58 eadthem you want to turn it up slowly, monitor the variac input current
01:58 eadthem Dont run the motor in a start condition for extended periods
01:59 Hyratel1 more than 10s or so before letting it cool?
01:59 eadthem say 10 seconds max, then give it a 120 sec break
01:59 Hyratel1 it's a flylever switch
01:59 eadthem ya the swich is fine, the cap isnt a run cap
01:59 Hyratel1 I know
01:59 eadthem so it could not like it
01:59 Hyratel1 it should spin up on its own though
01:59 Hyratel1 self-disengage
01:59 eadthem my washer motor i used reached full speed at like 12 or 24 volts
01:59 eadthem AC
02:00 eadthem no torqe however
02:00 Hyratel1 haha wow
02:00 Hyratel1 this has a lot of drag, the bearings were totally seized
02:00 eadthem well it reached slow speed
02:00 eadthem it was a dual speed motor
02:01 Hyratel1 by the diagram, it's set up to spin up to speed before engaging the heater
02:02 eadthem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjncsoRxFz0
02:02 Hyratel1 that's beastly
02:04 eadthem it was a nightmare to get wired both speeds in forwards
02:04 eadthem and my speed switch died quickly
02:04 Hyratel1 under-rated?
02:04 eadthem it was rated for 20 amps
02:05 Hyratel1 weird
02:05 eadthem same as the shop switch
02:05 eadthem owell 1760 runs the bandsaw at a good speed
02:05 Hyratel1 any suggestions on how to remove it from the pillow blocks?
02:06 Hyratel1 those springs are gnarly
02:06 Hyratel1 first pic is potato quality because i couldn't hold my hand steady
02:07 eadthem well the pillow blocks mounted to the motor?
02:07 Hyratel1 yeah
02:07 Hyratel1 and the motor in the bracket
02:08 eadthem not sure your going to have good luck with that
02:08 Hyratel1 it's a keyed rubber boot I think
02:11 eadthem keep in mind, you can replace that motor for about 45$ and less
02:12 Hyratel1 only thing cheaper than free is free and working
02:12 eadthem yep
02:12 Hyratel1 and if I can get it working for free (aside from time)
02:12 eadthem so bearings are rough right?
02:12 Hyratel1 stiff, but smooth
02:12 eadthem well theres 2 options
02:13 eadthem you could flush them with a syringe and 99% iso
02:13 eadthem until everything is out
02:13 eadthem then use a syringe to push grease back in
02:13 Hyratel1 i've shot WD40 into the bearingspace and spun it with an allen key in the pulley set screw
02:13 eadthem WD40 isnt a lubricant its a solvent
02:13 eadthem keep that in mind
02:13 Hyratel1 I know
02:13 Hyratel1 it was seized solid before
02:14 eadthem :p i know pepole that thought it was what you injected in a grese zert
02:14 Hyratel1 flush with wd40 and chase with medium to heavy oil
02:14 eadthem id flush with iso after the wd40
02:14 Hyratel1 or, if possible, grease
02:14 eadthem to make sure it cant damage the grease
02:14 Hyratel1 I can't actually get to the bearings
02:14 Hyratel1 they're behind the pillow blocks
02:14 eadthem id use like a 22 guage needle on a syringe for this to
02:14 eadthem ya
02:15 eadthem the issue is if there rusted on the inside, its all for not
02:15 eadthem as bearing races are extreamly rarely stainless
02:15 eadthem ususaly they rely on the grease to water proof them.
02:15 Hyratel1 it sins very smooth
02:15 Hyratel1 spins
02:15 eadthem maby just old grease then
02:15 Hyratel1 I didn't see any black scum running out

02:17 eadthem i dont know, i need to head to bed its 2AM
02:17 Hyratel1 3 here. night, I'll keep you posted
02:18 Snert nice retro looking motor
02:18 Hyratel1 not retro. old
02:18 Snert built back in the day when they at least knew what quality was.
02:18 Hyratel1 it's a Westinghouse table fan
02:18 Hyratel1 lookit the jackshaft for the oscillator
02:18 Hyratel1 rifled bearing
02:20 Hyratel1 before https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33593534/projects/Westinghouse%20fan/IMG_1671.JPG
02:20 Hyratel1 Snert, ^
02:21 Snert yes indeed that could sell for some good $.
02:21 Hyratel1 sell?????
02:23 Hyratel1 the type 516860 seems extremely common
02:23 Hyratel1 collectible, but not rare
02:23 Snert an ancient air moving robot.
