00:37 sherlock ....
00:37 sherlock why
00:51 mrdata depends on how busy the channel is
00:52 mrdata and whether there are more lurkers than talkers
01:09 rue_shop3 the channel is unfortunatly over its halflife
01:09 rue_shop3 we dont have anyone doing any active projects
01:10 rue_shop3 if we kick everyone we can jumpstart some life for a few hours
01:10 Jak_o_Shadows One day
01:10 rue_shop3 channels have a life cycle :(
01:15 rue_shop3 Jak_o_Shadows, ... dont you have a 3d printer?
01:16 Jak_o_Shadows Yup. One of the z-couplings is broken at the moment.
01:16 rue_shop3 oo, follow it by hand for long enought to reprint one?
01:17 sherlock the other day I used an LED pin to pop the sim card out of my phone
01:17 Jak_o_Shadows I'm busier now though, so getting all headachy is not desirable
01:17 sherlock thats the extent of my projects
01:17 Jak_o_Shadows I could, or I could just replace it with a bit of tube
01:17 rue_shop3 I have a mostly 3d printed bot
01:17 rue_shop3 little wheeled, whiskered bot, uses two standard sized servos
01:17 rue_shop3 and some coathanger wire
01:17 rue_shop3 and an arduino uno
01:17 rue_shop3 ...
01:18 Jak_o_Shadows The next project is going to a modular miniature wargaming table with light up things
01:18 rue_shop3 oh
01:19 ace4016 warhammer?
01:20 Jak_o_Shadows warmachine / hordes
01:20 Jak_o_Shadows I don't play myself, it's for friends, so it'll actually get finished
01:23 Jak_o_Shadows Lights-wise it's going to have little streetlights
01:24 ace4016 heh
01:25 ace4016 creating a nice setup for tabletop would be nice
01:27 Jak_o_Shadows gonna try and run each modular cell as completely disconnected: Get in practice for a home automation system
01:34 blockh34d Jak_o_Shadows: if you're making light up things, fyi i've found melted down milkjugs (HDPE) makes an excellent diffuser
01:34 Jak_o_Shadows Thanks!
01:34 blockh34d so you can go from one light LED point to more like a lit panel
01:34 Jak_o_Shadows Apparently the 3D printer fairy fixed my printer at some point
01:34 blockh34d np gl, sounds fun
01:35 blockh34d nice, what kind of 3dp?
01:35 blockh34d i have a prusa i3v
01:35 blockh34d http://s10.postimg.org/5p5u5fjpl/hexapixel_sample1.jpg example of HDPE diffuser
01:35 Jak_o_Shadows scratchbuilt i3
01:35 blockh34d nice
01:35 blockh34d i got the makerfarm kit
01:35 blockh34d its not bad
01:36 Jak_o_Shadows I'd get a delta if I were starting again.
01:36 blockh34d now i'm making one of these: http://s10.postimg.org/poxh6k1xl/cnc_with_platform_landscape.jpg
01:36 blockh34d thats my build so far
01:36 blockh34d you can put exturders on it too though
01:36 blockh34d so its either additive or subtractive
01:37 blockh34d not sure how accurate conduit rods could ever be but we'll find out
01:37 blockh34d thats thingiverse item 724999 btw
01:40 theBear hehe exturder
01:53 password2_ theBear !
01:53 password2_ you betrayer
01:55 theBear what ?
01:56 password2_ idk you are in other channels too
01:56 password2_ :P
01:56 password2_ unless you are not theBear i'm looking for
01:57 theBear i'm everywhere at all times
01:57 theBear there are no substitutes
01:57 password2_ ok
02:20 rue_shop3 heh, people are liking that design
02:21 rue_shop3 nice use of electrical fittings
02:32 blockh34d thanks
02:33 blockh34d i did a lot of that actually the original used all printed corners
02:33 blockh34d it just seemed like a lot of filament to me so i made some smaller plates and the fittings... i feel like theres some advantages to my approach, although in some ways its a bigger pain to implement
02:34 blockh34d i had to drill each of the fittings out two more places around the perimeter for more retaining screws that i could tighten to more accurately hit 90 degrees etc
02:35 blockh34d but that lets me use conduit hanging straps to hold the legs onto those plates, which turns out to be really strong and a nice way to create that uniform height
02:35 blockh34d and by running the althread through those pipes i can really torque it down onto whatever its attached to
02:38 blockh34d i found it helped to have two layers of plate for the base, attached to each other and the top drilled at the legs so the CNC can just barely notch into it
02:38 blockh34d then run the althread through the lower plate and torque the device down onto it securely
02:39 blockh34d thats my customizations anyways, other people have really done some neat stuff with this same cnc design
02:39 blockh34d one guy made his frame so its attached to the wall and sorta folds up like an ironing board
03:07 theBear is that a pcb driller or a printer ?
03:12 blockh34d kind of a test platform more than anything i guess
03:12 blockh34d i made some smoothieware mods for some folks in another hemisphere running a printer i can't replicate here
03:13 blockh34d and they've had some issues with the motion so i want to iron them out so i'll have it control this long enough to figure it out
03:13 blockh34d it will probably cut foam, drag a knife around, plot with a sharpy etc
03:13 blockh34d i dont know if milling pcbs is realistic at that scale, feels like the accuracy just wont be good enough... but i'll give it a try!
03:14 blockh34d i suspect i'll need a much smaller build to maintain the accuracy pcb milling would need, or at least come close
03:15 theBear mmm, light stuff generally
03:15 blockh34d also you can put dual 'exturders', as a alternate tool on there
03:15 blockh34d yah maybe some hdpe
03:15 blockh34d lighter woods, i wouldnt even try hardwoods with it
03:15 theBear hehe the old exturders
03:15 blockh34d its a remarkable accurate title
03:15 blockh34d if you think about extrusion it is quite a lot like pooping
03:16 blockh34d lol
03:16 theBear mmm, hardwoods ain't just called that for fun... even fancy tungsten carbide you don't just go flatout into hardwood land
03:16 theBear hehe
03:16 blockh34d haha yeah
03:16 blockh34d tough stuff
03:16 blockh34d i think HDPE is about the toughest stuff i want to cut on
03:16 blockh34d although it might be nice to engrave metal so i could have a guide to follow with a band saw
03:16 theBear ever seen ironwood or other RIDICULOUSLY hard woods ? that stuff is mindblowing with hardness
03:17 blockh34d not sure how realistic that would be
03:17 blockh34d probably easier to just plot on it with a sharpie
03:17 blockh34d haha no i haven't but i do have some brazillian hardwood flooring scraps i keep around for tough jobs
03:17 blockh34d they are pretty serious
03:17 blockh34d i would like to mill some wood sculpture though
03:18 blockh34d that embossed relief kinda panel you see over really classy fireplaces
03:18 blockh34d i bet i could sell those for way too much to gullible schmucks on ebay trying to class up their mcmansion
03:19 blockh34d i kinda wonder about putting the whole thing in a van
03:19 blockh34d and then parking outside of sporting events offering to make people high quality foam signs on the spot
03:19 blockh34d again for way, way too much
03:20 theBear this kinda stuff you belt with a hammer and it doesn't make a mark... lots of fun when you actually gotta change its shape or make holes to turn it into something (usually for some architects own house... those guys love anything impractical to work with :)
03:20 blockh34d i would love to have some around for nunchuks
03:20 blockh34d although its suprising how well milkjugs work in that way
03:21 blockh34d they make very good nunchuks if you weight the ends
03:21 blockh34d i have much nicer pairs around but theres something really nice about the HDPE ones
03:22 blockh34d if i wanted to mark cutouts on a metal sheet for later manual cutting, do you think a sharpie good enough or should i try to etch it in there?
03:22 blockh34d seems like the marker would be brittle to handle
03:23 blockh34d can't wait till i can cut out big robot frames
03:23 blockh34d i thnk hdpe will be a good material for some little walkers
03:24 theBear depends on tolerance required... that's traditional metalwork kinda stuff, which i ain't real good at to begin with... ask the rue
03:43 password2 blockh34d, soap stones are commonly used to make marks on metal
03:43 theBear mmm, i seen that
03:45 theBear also scoring with a sharp point is used sometimes... now i'm thinking, aside from knowing that various textas aren't great for marking metal (vs the inherant "accuracy" of metal/metalwork,) i remember my carpentry rules... if you want accurate even for something as soft and crappy as wood, you mark with a knife then circle it with a pencil so you can find it again
03:45 password2 i need a project for a scroll saw though
03:47 blockh34d theBear: thats an interesting approach to woodwork
03:48 blockh34d its funny but thats kinda how i've tended to do it, despite my much-more-experience carpenter friends insistence i use a pencil
03:48 blockh34d and i agree, its always been nice to have that cut groove, its sharper than a pencil, by a lot
03:48 theBear that's the finer points, but apparently classic carpentry practice
03:48 blockh34d he accomodates for that by either removing all of the line or none of it, thats another way to get comparable results
03:49 theBear those were the days i could use a circular saw and handtools to cut a whole sheet inside of .5mm tolerance on a bad day...
03:49 theBear ya don't get that with pencil marks, even if you are constantly sharpening it
03:53 blockh34d agreed
03:53 blockh34d the carpentry i do with my buddy is on the home rehab level, decks and porches and stuff
03:53 blockh34d it doesnt really need to be mm accurate so i bet its a low concern
04:06 theBear mmm, with wood mm accurate is seldom important, cos a change in weather will change it way more than that anyway, but when a guy like me falls into carpentry as work for whatever reasons, just cutting up and attaching wood to stuff isn't enough to keep yer mind content, so you push the limits :)
08:39 TechMonger anyone know a good chan for quads/drones?
08:44 Kamondelious Try #multirotors
17:44 orlock morning rue
18:01 rue_school hey
18:02 rue_school how are the stars doing?
18:04 rue_school half an hour from now
18:04 rue_school it will be half an hour later
18:04 orlock Havent seen much of them recently
18:04 orlock due to weather
18:04 orlock and 16 day old son
18:04 rue_school ah
18:04 rue_school takes on the whole world at once
18:05 rue_school we had a HEAP of wind at home, spent a few hours on genorator
18:05 rue_school would have spent more but THE MUFFER FELL APART...
18:05 rue_school got back to vancouver and the wind tore up a bunch of trees
18:06 blockh34d hi
18:06 rue_school low
18:06 blockh34d anyone know anything about wiring up a smoke detector a power strip?
18:06 blockh34d i would like the smoke detector to shut down the power strip until a user presses reset
18:06 rue_school a power bar!?
18:06 blockh34d as a safety device for 3d printers
18:06 rue_school oh
18:07 rue_school you can get modules for them that will operate a small realy, you can use that to operate a larger relay
18:07 blockh34d i dont understand how this doesnt already exist
18:07 blockh34d seems like a nobrainer to me
18:08 rue_school well after the device burns up it shorts the power out and automatically turns the power off, by the time thats happened the fire is arleady welll on its way
18:08 rue_school kiddee smoke detector per chance?
18:08 blockh34d not sure what i have around here
18:08 blockh34d i know i have a stack of smoke detectors laying around
18:08 blockh34d i like this idea i should make this happen
18:08 blockh34d it could save lives and make me money
18:09 rue_school sure sure
18:09 rue_school did you hear what I said tho?
18:09 blockh34d i did but i dont understand
18:09 blockh34d i want the presence of power to be what activates the power channel
18:09 rue_school smoke detector -> module -> relay
18:09 blockh34d so absent power the relay does a one way transition
18:10 blockh34d yup
18:10 blockh34d sounds reaosnable
18:10 rue_school http://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/products/fire-safety/safety-accessories/auxiliary-devices/sm120x/
18:10 blockh34d oh cool thanks i'll have a look
18:10 rue_school works with the smoke detector, will close a relay on alarm
18:11 rue_school you would need to use that with anoter relay for power
18:11 blockh34d i need the opposite of that though
18:11 rue_school if you set it up right, you can make the relay latching and use the smoke dector to unlatch it
18:11 blockh34d gotcha
18:11 blockh34d thats what i need to do
18:11 rue_school it gives you both normaly open and normally closed contacts
18:12 blockh34d this seems like such an obvious device
18:12 blockh34d how is this not already a type of powerstrip with smoke dector / moisture detector inputs
18:12 blockh34d maybe even thermistor inputs
18:12 blockh34d seems like it already exists i just dont know what to look for
18:12 rue_school or motion sensor, so that it can enguage the chainsaw if a robber breaks in..
18:12 blockh34d chainsaw launcher you mean
18:13 rue_school sure,
18:13 ockh34d doesnt play ar
18:13 rue_school have to make an auto-chainsaw-starter tho
18:13 blockh34d i do keep a husqavarna right next to my 3dp
18:13 blockh34d yes its compatible with those
18:13 blockh34d maybe i could get two of them and make nunchuks out of them
18:14 blockh34d that doesnt sound as safety oriented though.
18:16 rue_school just make a note to keep the guards on till you throw them at people
18:16 rue_school ok, what am I going to do to stay mentally active for the next 5 hours
18:17 rue_school I suppose I could go to sleep...
18:17 rue_school ooo thye have robot building at science world
18:18 rue_school I SHALL USE THEIR RESOURCES TO TAKE OVER THE WORLd
18:18 rue_school DAMNIT ages 8 - 18
18:21 blockh34d 8 - 18 = -10
18:21 rue_school thats the wrong way
18:21 blockh34d i think their age limit is a logic test for you to ignore.
18:22 Tom_itx rue_school, how long you got left for school?
18:22 rue_school ah its just lego and vex
18:22 rue_school oh, like 7 weeks
18:23 blockh34d lol vex
18:23 blockh34d i had some fun with that years ago
18:23 blockh34d made a tank bot with a aimable camera on it
18:23 rue_school 6 weeks to be accurate

18:23 rue_school $550 Competitive Team
18:24 rue_school considering my program is $2/visit....
18:30 rue_school ok I'v seen every silly propane tank on earth, what next
18:31 rue_school Tom_itx, remember that laser based position scanneer I was working on way back?
18:31 Tom_itx nope
18:36 rue_school well I got the code working
18:36 Tom_itx oh cool
18:36 rue_school from the angles around the robot to 3 pillars I can locate the robot
18:36 Tom_itx what are you gonna put the sensor on?
18:37 rue_school the code works, I have to make up the rest of hte hardware
18:37 rue_school dunno, I'll play and see if it works irl
18:37 Tom_itx what sort of receiver?
18:38 rue_school robot spins modulated laser, pillars pick it up and reply with a ping that contains and ID code
18:38 blockh34d rue_school: sounds similar to how deltas move the effector around
18:38 rue_school via radio
18:38 blockh34d deltas like the firepick anyways
18:38 rue_school dunno, the math was evil
18:39 blockh34d with 3 angles of 3 diff motors arranged at 120 degree spacing around a circle, each attached to an effector, you can move the effector anywheer you want
18:39 blockh34d it soudns similar you might find some resources in the firepick and icepick code repos
18:40 rue_school I have the code now, just finished it last week
18:40 rue_school http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/abspos/problem.html
18:40 rue_school I'm the only person I know who could solve that
18:40 blockh34d and so modest too :P
18:41 rue_school frustrating as all hell
18:41 rue_school I'm about 7 years into it
18:42 blockh34d seems like thats only half the problem
18:42 blockh34d thats getting you the coord on a 2d plane
18:42 blockh34d you'll need another big clump of math for the 3rd dimension
18:42 rue_school yea I gave you the half without the solution
18:42 blockh34d its ok i could solve this
18:42 rue_school its for ground robots, I dont need a 3rd
18:43 rue_school heh, give it a try, I have the answer availale
18:43 blockh34d i suspect theres more than one way to skin this cat
18:43 orlock the physical load an alternator requires to spin is dependant on draw, c orrect?
18:43 rue_school yup
18:44 orlock so replacing my dud battery should increase my fuel economy
18:44 rue_school Pin = Pout - Ploss
18:44 rue_school sure
18:44 rue_school but the temp sensor still wont work
18:44 rue_school so the computer will keep shoveling in the fuel trying to get the engine to warm up
18:45 orlock computer? hah.
18:45 Tom_itx orlock, congrats on the new addition
18:45 orlock i drive a 1992 subaru
18:45 orlock Tom: cheers
18:45 blockh34d rue_school: is the current forward facing angle of the robot reflected in its angle detection or is the angles returned by its scanning process always consistent regardlesss of current robot facing angle?
18:46 blockh34d i might simplify and assume the robot is always facing exactly north at all times
18:46 blockh34d it would be simple to adjust that to reflect current facing angle though
18:46 orlock i've been trying to design a birthday present for my daughter
18:46 orlock in openscad
18:46 blockh34d tried freecad?
18:47 orlock going to embed some LED's in transparent PLA
18:47 blockh34d imo its a lot more usable
18:47 blockh34d orlock: are you trying to diffuse the light?
18:47 orlock yup
18:47 blockh34d i have found HDPE (milk jugs) is supreme for that
18:47 blockh34d http://s10.postimg.org/5p5u5fjpl/hexapixel_sample1.jpg example
18:48 orlock the translucent PLA was given to me free
18:48 blockh34d thats an adafruit neopixel behind 1/8" HDPE
18:48 blockh34d translucent pla might work too
18:49 blockh34d i havent tried it but i can guarantee HDPE works great
18:49 rue_school blockh34d, spinning laser, it will give you the angles it hit each beacon
18:49 slidercrank blockh34d, what is that 6-gon thing on the breadboard?
18:49 blockh34d rue_school: and they're not relative to the facing angle of the robot?
18:49 rue_school with 0 degrees straight forward if you care
18:49 blockh34d slidercrank: that is a 'hexapixel', i am making a suit of them
18:49 slidercrank I see
18:49 blockh34d new designs feature a nominal black value
18:50 blockh34d so when its not on at all, its flat black
18:50 blockh34d is nominal the word there? i think not :/
18:50 blockh34d sounds smart though.
18:51 blockh34d rue_school: does the robot know which direction it is facing
18:51 blockh34d n/m its not that important just a factor in the formulas
18:52 rue_school no, it could work it out if it knew its position and the angle to a beacon
18:55 rue_school Distance AC is 417.376935
18:55 rue_school Distance CB is 374.318267
18:55 rue_school Distance BA is 501.034898
18:55 rue_school Angle ABC is 54.663259
18:55 rue_school Angle BCA is 78.315346
18:55 rue_school Angle CAB is 47.021396
18:55 rue_school Intersection: 177.724, 62.743
18:55 rue_school there is some example data for you
18:56 rue_school A.x = 483.99; A.y = -65.57;
18:56 rue_school B.x = -8.34; B.y = 27.42;
18:56 rue_school C.x = 261.07; C.y = 287.29;
18:56 orlock I found a cheap local filament source too, yay
18:56 orlock so at my current rate i probably have a years worth of filament in multiple colours now :)
18:56 rue_school I'm wondering how many of my problems are cause of cheap filament
18:57 orlock my new source has been doing plastic extrusion for decades
18:57 orlock they make welding rod
18:57 orlock i dropped by the factory
18:58 rue_school ah
18:58 blockh34d rue_school: if the robot is always in side the 3 pillars yu only need two angles
18:58 rue_school from pellets?
18:58 orlock handed over cash for the "ends" of the rolls that dont make up a full sellable roll
18:58 rue_school blockh34d, yup
18:58 orlock yeah
18:58 orlock so they are all "short" the standard weight
18:58 rue_school the 3rd angle is 360-(sum of other two angles)
18:58 orlock and the factory is 15 minutes away
18:58 rue_school sweeet
18:59 blockh34d convert the angle to slope and find point of intersection of line emitted from pillar with inverse of the slope as its function and find where it intesects with eithe rother pillars inverse slope line
18:59 orlock i drive past it to/from work
18:59 orlock they dont have a great range of colours
18:59 rue_school blockh34d, what about verticle lines?
18:59 orlock but the price was right
18:59 rue_school indeed
18:59 rue_school you 3 or 1.75?
19:00 blockh34d there are no vertical lines or it wouldnt be inside the pillars
19:00 orlock 1.75
19:00 orlock well, 1.71 really
19:00 rue_school what if its vert to a pillar?
19:00 rue_school hmm, I went 3, but I have a 1.75head
19:00 blockh34d ah i guess it could be vertical to it now that i think about it
19:00 rue_school everythgin seems to be going 1.75
19:00 blockh34d but it doesnt matter
19:00 blockh34d the slope is consistent regardless, why would that matter?
19:01 rue_school slope goes go infinity
19:01 rue_school for vert lines
19:01 rue_school which argivates the math
19:01 blockh34d i dont see it as a very significant factor
19:01 rue_school would i do better if I just randomly mash the keyboard?
19:02 rue_school ok
19:02 orlock i also got some HIPS
19:02 orlock havent tried anything except the natural though
19:02 rue_school high impact poly styrene?
19:02 orlock yeah
19:02 blockh34d i could write this in javascript pretty easily
19:02 rue_school blockh34d, go for it!
19:02 blockh34d rue_school: next time you spend 7 years on a some geometry msg me first we'll figure it out
19:02 blockh34d http://prodev.comule.com/jstest
19:02 rue_school heh, I dont think your close, but I'm curious
19:02 blockh34d theres example of someo f my weird javascript
19:03 blockh34d you can fly all around that terrain btw
19:03 rue_school that looks like an old assembler demo I saw once
19:03 blockh34d its not, its javascript
19:03 blockh34d using canvas draw calls
19:03 blockh34d no webgl
19:04 rue_school nice
19:06 blockh34d by 'hits infinity' at vertical i think you're referring to the percent grade
19:07 blockh34d i'm takling about getting the gradient in Y/X components
19:07 orlock man, i wish i knew where i put that old set of data
19:07 blockh34d the percent grade is a factor of those, you dont need that you need the x/y rise/run
19:07 rue_school slope = rise/run
19:07 orlock rue: remember years ago, i made the 3d X/Y scanner using two servos and a laser rangefinder?
19:07 rue_school run = 0; slope = inf
19:07 rue_school no
19:07 rue_school or do I...
19:07 blockh34d www.engineeringtoolbox.com/slope-degrees-gradient-grade-d_1562.html
19:07 orlock scanned stuff and then rendered it into a greyscale image
19:07 rue_school you used colour for distance?
19:08 orlock looked like "night vision" through a fisheye
19:08 orlock yeah
19:08 rue_school sorta
19:08 orlock greyscale, 3 samples per position for RGB
19:08 orlock so any colour was an error
19:08 rue_school sure
19:09 orlock well, variance
19:09 orlock not error
19:09 rue_school blockh34d, make up a solution, I'd love to know if there is an easier way than how I did it
19:09 orlock Re: Openscad - I've tried other CAD packages
19:10 orlock i love the fact that its all done as code
19:10 rue_school blockh34d, http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/abspos/position_scanner.html
19:10 rue_school that is (so far) my scanner head for the project
19:10 rue_school you like that eh?
19:10 orlock rue_school: You would love my work
19:10 orlock as in, my employer
19:10 rue_school I like it for some things, but I spent a lot of time on povray, and I'd like a plain old mesh editor
19:11 orlock rue_school: a guy's PC here started acting up, i went to have a llook.. he runs the "prototyping area"
19:11 rue_school wow, i have so many more gears now
19:12 orlock rue_school: the he's a pattern maker, about to retire
19:12 orlock theres a CNC lathe, 4 or 5 CNC mills
19:12 orlock vac. formers
19:12 rue_school ah
19:12 orlock does world class prototyping stuff
19:12 rue_school you gonna help him dispose of all his old equip?
19:12 rue_school any of the vac formers compact?
19:13 orlock as in, multiple award winning and world first designs done here
19:13 rue_school the one here at the school is about 10 feet long, its an oven with the rest standing infont of it
19:13 orlock Dunno, i dont think i have seen them
19:13 orlock this place is a bit of a maze
19:14 orlock he was showing me moulds, milled out of steel, then polished
19:14 orlock 3 part
19:14 rue_school col
19:14 orlock for polyuourethane casting
19:14 rue_school I want to get into fancier stuff with the aluminum castings
19:15 orlock they inject in liquid polu-eurathane that then sets
19:15 orlock amongst many many other things
19:15 orlock they have an ObJet 3d printer to, as well as a pile of Ultimakers
19:16 orlock also designed and made a 3d printer that prints cells
19:16 orlock about 7 years ago
19:17 orlock There is a cuba farm of engineers here
19:17 orlock cube farm, even
19:17 orlock all doing the sorts of stuff you do for fun
19:19 rue_school cool
19:19 rue_school I wonder how the dealines and milestones are
19:21 rue_school hmm, I need to design a cable system for the fingers of the mecha
19:21 rue_school I'm all stoked about the progess I made on the hand and then I stopped
19:22 rue_school http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/sparrow1/p1070330.jpg
19:22 rue_school :( I didn't post a pic of the forearm
19:22 orlock Its not just the deadlines and milestones, the big deal is all of the other stuff, risk analysis, etc etc
19:22 rue_school sounds like it wouldn't be a fun job
19:22 orlock as its all FDA approoved and certified
19:23 rue_school I'd rather do building electrical and come home to the nodeadline robot building I do now
19:23 orlock heh yeah
19:23 orlock they have done everything from lawnmowers to better mousetraps to drink bottles to coke dispensers
19:24 rue_school wow
19:24 orlock to cellular analysis machines
19:24 rue_school cellular autonoma :)
19:24 orlock have you seen the new coke dispensers?
19:24 orlock with the LCD panel that lets you customise the drink?
19:24 rue_school the ones with the arm that lowers the bottle to the drop
19:24 rue_school hah no
19:25 rue_school http://www.gocanvas.com/content/images/image-uploads/pininfarina_1.jpg
19:25 rue_school is that it?
19:25 orlock yup
19:25 orlock pininfarina did the case
19:25 rue_school is it a touchscreen?
19:25 orlock http://www.coca-colafreestyle.com/home/
19:26 rue_school huh
19:26 rue_school so I can order a drink to a machine in california and never pick it up?
19:29 SpeedEvil Err - isn't it pour-as-you wait?
19:30 rue_school http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-294
19:31 eedEvil imagines a SCP coke mach
19:33 orlock i ordered some bits for my printer
19:33 orlock found an aussie shop selling metal hot end plates for $8
19:33 orlock thats the metal bracket that the hot end nack slides into
19:34 orlock and a new hobbed bolt
19:35 orlock http://orig06.deviantart.net/c210/f/2011/287/4/2/twilight_sparkle_cutie_mark__by_lite_sparkle-d4ctz3j.jpg
19:35 orlock I've made the central pair of stars in openscad
19:35 orlock with borders
19:36 orlock I spend a few hours dicking with inkscape trying to trace an image and do a bitmap-to-line, then inkscape-to-scad, turns out it was easier just to use 6 lines of openscad to generate them hah hah hah
19:37 orlock just need to add some bevels so its not as "flat"
19:37 orlock holes to embed some 8mm through-hole neopixels
19:37 orlock esp8266, temp sensor
19:39 orlock maybe arduino or even rpi
19:39 orlock daughters birthday present
19:39 SpeedEvil http://tao-mell.deviantart.com/art/Twilight-Sparkle-Custom-Liquid-Cooled-Gaming-PC-382529757 - I'm reminded of
19:49 rue_school cool stuff
19:49 rue_school librecad
19:53 rue_school yea, I need to sit down at home and do some welding
19:55 blockh34d rue_school: ok got it
19:55 blockh34d first off, for vertical lines just ignore the vertical line and use the other two
19:55 rue_school got it coded?
19:55 blockh34d well pseudo code i tested on paper
19:55 blockh34d it works
19:55 rue_school ok
19:55 rue_school do tell
19:55 blockh34d sec i'll type it out
19:56 blockh34d maybe i should pastebin we'll see how long it gets
19:56 blockh34d i'll put to codepad its long winded
19:56 rue_school http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/abspos/code/lkasdjfyk2.gif
19:57 rue_school if it dosn't involve that equation, its great
20:06 blockh34d codepads geeking out on me
20:06 blockh34d sec
20:07 blockh34d http://codepad.org/pIHJVhyy
20:07 blockh34d i drew it all out there and manually calculated teh angles from known positions it all works
20:10 ockh34d celebrates with co
20:14 blockh34d so any thoughts on that rue_school
20:18 blockh34d yeah thats a neat scanning device rue_school
20:19 blockh34d looks good
20:19 blockh34d i think i would have used two attachment points for wqhere the mirror connects to the gear
20:19 blockh34d so it can not wiggle at all
20:20 blockh34d but if you tighten it well enough that should be a serious issue
20:20 blockh34d should +not
20:22 blockh34d rue_school: did you consider using a laser level basically just a cheap line generator lens? i think that might be allow a greater range of vertical variance between the laser sweeper and the pillar detectors.
20:27 blockh34d well i'm going to get back to coding at this unity game i'm working on
20:28 blockh34d AR Ghostbusters
20:28 blockh34d i'll be back later so you can tell me how great i am.
20:31 eedEvil is beginning to think that he's a rap
20:31 blockh34d bust a rhyme for us then
20:32 blockh34d lets hear some irc nerdcore
20:33 eedEvil was thinking of ghostbusters, and that l
20:34 blockh34d ghostbusters had rap gods in it?
20:34 blockh34d i'll have to look that up
20:35 SpeedEvil 'Are you a god?'
20:35 blockh34d i wish i could use the actual ghostbusters for my game
20:35 blockh34d i would get so sued
20:35 SpeedEvil :)
20:35 SpeedEvil Goatbusters.
20:35 blockh34d i have some sorta sharktank type show that wants me to be on though
20:36 blockh34d hows this sound
20:36 blockh34d G.U.T.S.
20:36 blockh34d Ghost Unit Tango Squad
20:36 blockh34d because you play it on devices that have a Google Tango device
20:36 blockh34d so its like... government agency ghostbusters basically
20:36 blockh34d its what i'm going with so far
20:37 SpeedEvil hmm
20:37 blockh34d if i go on sharktank show maybe i could get the actual ghostbusters rights
20:37 SpeedEvil I prefer goatbusters.
20:37 blockh34d i like goats though
20:37 blockh34d oh wait
20:37 blockh34d are they busters of goats?
20:37 blockh34d or goats who bust?
20:37 SpeedEvil Good question.
20:37 ockh34d pon
20:37 blockh34d my game will have pirate ghosts in it
20:38 blockh34d they'll be constantly bickering over exactly what that means
20:38 blockh34d i was originally going to do that gag with 'murder clowns' but ... murders not funny
20:39 blockh34d btw if anyone makes electroswing music, and wants to have it featuerd in my game, send me a link
22:34 rue_school you just did a slope intersection?
22:35 blockh34d yup
22:35 theBear err, you can't call them that anymore man, yer gonna get us in trouble again !
22:35 eBear grins cheeky
22:35 rue_school blockh34d, try this just for giggles
22:35 rue_school A.x = 483.99; A.y = -65.57;
22:35 rue_school B.x = -8.34; B.y = 27.42;
22:35 rue_school C.x = 261.07; C.y = 287.29;
22:35 rue_school pillar positions ^2
22:36 rue_school ARC = deg2rad(92.368);
22:36 rue_school BRC = deg2rad(121.113);
22:36 rue_school ARB = deg2rad(146.519);
22:36 blockh34d ok but that'll be $50 an hour
22:36 rue_school the 3 angles in degrees
22:36 blockh34d you got your free sample
22:36 rue_school well dont then, I dont care
22:36 rue_school I got my working code
22:37 blockh34d you could plug in your numbers to my example easily enough
22:37 blockh34d why happens when you do that?
22:37 blockh34d why/what
22:40 theBear $50/hr !?!?! i'll start taking on jobs again and sub 'em out to you ! i'll make a fortune :)
22:40 rue_school your anlges dont work
22:41 blockh34d theBear: i was giving rue_school a student discount
22:41 rue_school the angles are 105.255, 146.3099, 108.435
22:41 blockh34d theBear: do farm work out to me though. seriously.
23:28 theBear heh, yer at teh top of the list, but these days it's mostly soldering micro usbs back on, or unvirusing lappies, both in exchange for things like pizza and beer :)
23:28 theBear and i can't afford to share that wealth right now :)
23:40 rue_school theBear, can you concentrate or ya in agony?
23:45 rue_school blockh34d if you get that process working, touch baseagain
